American Purple Gallinule

Habituated ≠ Tame ≠ Domesticated ≠ Trained!!!

This Purple Gallinule calls the Sweetwater Wetlands Park in Gainesville home! The park is not only a birding hotspot, it also cleans and filters water.

The purple gallinule is found in the swamps of the southeastern US. What better way to get around such habitat than to walk on lily pads? With incredibly long and widespread toes, these birds distribute their weight enough to maneuver through the wetlands with ease.
