Gabriela Francesca Carrillo's Changing Parr Wigs
Alright. I have been meaning to make a post about this for a year now and have probably 20 asks about it, but I swear every time I sat down to work on it she got some major restyling. So...now that Aragon Tour has closed, it's finally time to make it.
Tumblr media
The earliest photos of Gabriela's wig are from the tech week in New Haven (top left), the promo photoshoot that took place at the end of New Haven tech (top right and bottom left), and Chicago opening (bottom right). All of those show the same basic shape: her hair being pulled over to the left side of her head and left loose. However, there are a number of differences in the specific styles: - During the top left tech photo, she had the top section on the left pulled into a loose waterfall braid, French braids on the right that got pulled over into the left waterfall near the back of her head, and the rest left loose (although it does seem like there’s another braid hanging down on the left as well). The curls were styled with smaller strands and more volume/texture to them. - By the photoshoot, she had a similar style but with larger curl clumps. We can also see that she has 3-4 French braids on her right. - By opening, the biggest change is the curl texture. The wig was straightened out and then curled into larger looser curl sections that were kept more intact, going for more of a side-swept blowout than naturally wavy look. It still kept the French braids on the right and the waterfall braid on left.
Tumblr media
The day after opening it had already changed to a faux side ponytail style. That base style then went through numerous iterations in the first week or so; it feels like there were changes just about every day that week. I've added the best photos I have from that period above. The hair starts out in more of a faux ponytail, basically just loose but pulled pretty tightly so it looks closer to a ponytail than anything. Eventually they pulled it into two proper ponytails. The number and placement of braids changed quite a bit as well.
For the next few months, she continued to have a variety of style changes:
Tumblr media
Placement, ponytail vs loose, number of ponytails, number/placement/stile of braids….all changed maaany times. I’m not going to do a full write-up of all that just because there were simply too many! But this gives a selection of most of the major changes. (Note: these were all still restyling of her initial wig)
With the start of the San Francisco run in Feb 2023, Gabriela got a new wig:
Tumblr media
This wig is styled as a right side part with Dutch braids on each side going back into a low ponytail. Initially the ponytail was more on the left side but by the end it was more in the center. Simpler than most of her prior styles, but very flattering. She wore this wig through the end of her run.
Alright, that’s everything I have on Gabi’s wigs for the moment! As I said above there were simply far too many changes for me to make a comprehensive post with every single change, but I tried to pick some good photos encompassing the majority of them. If anyone has further questions on any specific styles, feel free to send me an ask and I’ll see what I can write up! But this is the most comprehensive I’m going to do for her hairstyles more broadly, and I hope it answers any unanswered questions from the last year and a half.
Photos are all from @/officialgabrielacarrillo on Instagram and Tiktok.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to our Queens!
Hey y'all! Here in the US Sep 15th-Oct 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month! Today I'm taking a moment to spotlight all the Latino/a/e/x queens in global productions of Six. Quick note that Hispanic/Latino identities have quite a bit of complexity that I'm trying to factor in while making this post; for further explanation of which queens were/were not included, check the "read more."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aragon: Phoenix Jackson Mendoza (Brazilian, 21-23 Australian Tour), Gerianne Pérez (Puerto Rican, Boleyn Tour) Boleyn: Erin Ramirez (Peruana-American, alt B/H/P, Aragon Tour), Analise Rios (Puerto Rican, Breakaway 6.0)
Cleves: Janice Rijssel (Surinamer, Breakaway 4.0), Haley Izurieta (Ecuadorian, formerly rehearsal alt B/C, Bliss 5.0/6.0), Krystal Hernández (Puerto Rican, Canadian Tour)
Howard: Samantha Pauly (Puerto Rican, pre-Broadway tour/Bway), Brianna Mooney (Bliss 3.0), Cassie Silva (Mexican descent, alt A/B/C/H, Aragon Tour/US universal alternate), Didi Romero (Puerto Rican/Boricua, Aragon Tour), Aline Mayagoitia (Mexicana, Boleyn Tour)
Parr: Anna Uzele (Puerto Rican, pre-Broadway tour/Bway), Marilyn Caserta (Cuban, alt A/B/C/P, Bliss 3.0/US universal alternate/Broadway), Gabriela Francesca Carrillo (Mexican-American, Aragon Tour), Sydney Parra (Puerto Rican, Boleyn Tour)
Rehearsal alts: Adrianna Glover (alt A/C/P, Bliss 3.0), Alizé Ke'Aloha Cruz (Mexican, alt B/S/H, Bliss 3.0)
Some stats: - We still have not seen any Latina Seymours who actually got to debut (although Alizé Cruz did cover the role as rehearsal alt). - Howard has been played by the most Latino/a/e/x queens, with four principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing. - Meanwhile Cleves and Parr have had three principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing; Boleyn has had one principal as well as three alts and two rehearsal swings; and Aragon has had two principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing.
A couple notes and definitions: - All information is from this post. There may be additional info or queens missing, as it's only information I specifically have been able to verify. This list also doesn't encompass the full breadth of many queens' identities; many of them are of mixed race and ethnicity, or of several nationalities. For more info on any given queen, that post has everything I know. - The terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" are often conflated within the US, but have different meanings. "Hispanic" refers to someone with heritage from a Spanish-speaking country, such as Spain, Mexico, Chile, and Cuba. "Latino" (or Latina/Latine) refers to someone of Latin American heritage, which by broad definition includes South America, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and some of the Caribbean, including non-Spanish-speaking countries like Brazil. While the month is called Hispanic Heritage Month, it's typically defined as focusing on celebrating those of Latin American descent. As such, I'm not including queens of Hispanic but non-Latin American descent. - However, there is further debate and difference in identification even beyond that in terms of which countries/people identify as Latin American. For anyone from an area where Latin American identification may differ, such as most of the Caribbean, I generally acquiesced to what the queen themselves identify as. As such, there's very little inclusion of Caribbean queens on this list, because most of them identify themselves as purely Caribbean rather than Latin American. - This debate also comes up with the many Filipino/Pinoy queens. Many identify themselves as being of Hispanic AND Asian heritage due to Spanish colonization in the region, which would make them Hispanic rather than Latino. Of course, there is a possibility that some of the queens could be have mixed Filipina AND Latina background; however, I don't have anything where any of them identified themselves as such, and so in keeping with specifically Latin American queens I did not include them in this post. (You can find them in the Asian American and Pacific Islander post, however!) - Additionally, this post does not include Rhiannon Bacchus as she was part of the cancelled Breakaway 2.0 cast. She is Guyanese.
--------------------------- Photos of Gerianne Pérez, Erin Ramirez, Krystal Hernández, Samantha Pauly, Cassie Silva, Didi Romero, Aline Mayagoitia, Anna Uzele, Gabriela Francesca Carrillo, and Sydney Parra are by Joan Marcus. Happy (belated) Pride Month 2023!
Made this graphic back during pride month but since I was on hiatus I just never posted it. But better late than never, so here’s the belated 2023 pride post from me. As always, this list is certainly not comprehensive. There are likely other closeted actors and/or actors who are out but may not have explicitly stated their queerness. As identity is a sensitive topic I always err on the side of caution when creating these. And just like in past years, this only includes current actors.

Time for n00b question #2! (If you remember my first one was about putins like six months ago)
What is, exactly, a half-up half-down hairstyle? Is it like just a bit of the hair styled and the rest left loose? Or is there something else I'm not understanding? And which queens is it associated with?
Thank you for putting up with me being an idiot
Hey! No worries about noob questions - I know it’s cliche but there really are no stupid questions. It's actually more helpful when anyone asks questions that they might feel are simple or basic, because it makes sure that I answer that for you and anyone else who might be wondering + gives me a better frame of reference for what I may need to explain more in the future!
A half-up, half-down style in the most literal sense just means that a section of the hair is styled “up”, either pulled back or in some sort of updo, while the rest of the hair is left “down,” aka usually loose. You also might hear it called a “half updo” - same thing, basic concept of some of the hair is “up” and some is “down.” Same thing. In the most classic sense, it often is referring to a longer hairstyle with the hair most left down with a section on either side of the face pulled back in some way. But, again, it can describe a lot. Here's a good article with some different examples, and here’s another.
As it pertains to Six, specifically: - It describes most Aragon hairstyles, because in most the hair is left loose while sections near the front are pulled back in varying styles (I typically just describe these as a "bob" because I feel like the length is one of the most significant/identifying details that set Aragon wigs apart) - It also describes most Boleyn hairstyles, because most of the hair is down/loose while some is up in the spacebuns (like with Aragon, I usually don't refer to this as half-up either because I find the spacebuns to be the most iconic part of the look even though it is technically half-up) - It describes all but one Seymour style. To me, Seymour styles are also the most quintessential half-up style - the majority of the hair left loose and rather long, with varying forms of the sides/top pulled back. And unlike Aragon and Boleyn, I don't feel like there's any other more definable feature of the typical style (bob/spacebuns respectively), so this is my go-to term for Seymour styles.
Here's a few examples of Aragon, Boleyn, and Seymour styles that fit the half-up half-down label:
Tumblr media
And here are a few A/B/S styles that AREN’T half-up half-down (not comprehensive):
Tumblr media
While a half-up hairstyle isn't standard for Cleves, Howard, or Parr, a few of those queens have had them at different points as well:
Tumblr media
Cleves: Grace Mouat had a few different half-up styles for Cleves, including one that was a teased bouffant style (pictured). Jennifer Caldwell originally wore her hair with the front/top sections pulled back to the sides, more similar to Aragon bobs.
Howard: For a while there were some Howards with a half-up style. It was meant to look like a regular pony, but it generally left the back half of the style loose. It was most commonly used for queens who had shorter hair/too many layers for their hair to be put totally up, back when Six didn't make a ponytail for everyone. There's actually been six queens with this style, which I talked about here.
Parr: Grace Mouat and Jennifer Caldwell both wore their hair pulled back in a crown, similar to their Cleves styles (part of the time anyway; Jennifer's is pictured here). Gabriela Francesca Carrillo has had a variety of hairstyles as Parr, but her earlier styles often featured some of the hair pulled “up” into braids/ponytails along with some sections hanging “down”/loose (post here). And Taylor Iman Jones has a version of the iconic Parr side pony (the “up”) but has some hair left loose in the back as well. (post here)
-------------- Aragon/Boleyn/Seymour half-up: haileekaleemwright; sixthemusicalau, unsure of origin; arumsoooooul; Joan Marcus; baylie.carson; Michaelah Reynolds; leahvassell; nataliemayparis; ceciliaevelyne Aragon/Boleyn/Seymour not: sixthemusical; courtneyebowman; bridges1993 Cleves/Howard/Parr: gracemouat; unknown, from Wiki; courtneypmack; mallorymaedke; broadwayinchicago; Jennifer Broski

Pulled the numbers on what colleges were most common for the US/Can actors. This is mostly taken from the Wiki. May be missing some actors/colleges. I generally tried to only count it when an actor actually got a degree in the performing arts, but it's possible that some of these still went to college for something else. I'll probably do this for the UK eventually, too.

Kelsee Kimmel’s Changing Wigs
Tumblr media
Aragon
Kelsee Kimmel initially started out with the left wig for her put-in/debut. No part, braids pulling the hair away from the e face and back into loose curls. The curl texture, volume, and seemingly the cut got messed around with throughout the run (center is one example). During the Boston leg in December 2022, she got a new wig. Center part, no braids, different texture and length, and less volume. It generally matches the NCL wigs more than Khaila Wilcoxon or any of the other current US mainland.
Tumblr media
Seymour
Kelsee’s w Seymour wig wasn’t finished when they had their initial promo photoshoot with the alts, so her own hair was styled (far left) with a side part and French braid to the side. Then she got a straight red wig with a center part and braids on each side, which she only wore for her put in. For her debut she got a new wig that more closely resembled her own hair texture/color with a side part and braids. Her newest wig was debuted in Jan 2023 and has a center part (which the US had shifted away from but seems to be shifting back towards with Kelsee and Bella Coppola on Bway). The newest wig is generally much closer in appearance and style to Jasmine Forsberg’s.
Tumblr media
Parr
Kelsee’s debut featured the left wig with an updo and the curls piled on top of the head. The exact styling of the curls has differed a bit but the general design has stayed the same. In Jan 2023 she debuted a new wig which matches the style Roxanne Couch got at West End cast change: a braid on the top leading into a mid-crown curled ponytail.
Kelsee also seemed to have a different wig for Parr in the early wig room photos. That wouldn’t be surprising at all - Erin Ramirez and Gabriela Francesca Carrillo both went through a few different significant restylings and entirely new wigs for Parr. Erin Ramirez did eventually get the same updo with curls piled up on the top of her head, but she still got that wig a while before Kelsee debuted Parr. It’s totally feasible that Kelsee had another initial Parr wig that we just never saw her wear, similar to how we only saw her initial Seymour wig once (put in).

why is the standard boleyn wig straight even though some of the queens don’t have naturally straight hair? like erin, for example, she got a curly wig for parr to match her natural hair but a straight one for boleyn
Talked about Boleyn specifically here. Erin Palmer Ramirez did initially have a straight wig as well (similar in style to Gabriela Francesca Carrillo's, but not identical) but they changed it to her current curly one. Also just comes down to standardization + likely logistics - easier to have fairly standardized styles in terms of styling and maintenance than several different ones.

hey, what do you think is up w/ the aragon tour wigs? i.e. kelsee having a ginger seymour wig that got cut immediately, kelly getting a new cleves wig and now erin’s new parr wig? i also noticed that all three boleyns are wearing full wigs rather than the piece that most boleyns in other productions wear - what do you suspect might be the reasoning behind that?
Hey! Couple different factors at play! Experimentation with different wigs is always a thing with every production! There are lots of factors that go into wigs - how flattering they are on the actor, how well they go with the costume, how they appear on stage, how they work with the lighting. It’s fairly common for a team to design and order a wig and then re-style or scrap it when they actually see it on the actor or onstage (assuming they have a big enough budget for that, which does differ from production or production). I think what’s surprising here, however, is that we don’t usually see those changes onstage or on social media! Wigs are typically made simultaneously with costumes and checked ongoing throughout fittings and eventually tech. Any changes to the design would be made during that costume/wig process even before getting onstage (which we very rarely get photos from), or they would be made during tech/early previews. We saw a lot of those with Broadway, but most of them either never made it to the public stage (ie changed during fittings + tech) or were subtle enough that they weren’t as obvious. However, the Aragon Tour changes have been a little bit more public and some of them are a lot more obvious! Several of the principals had subtle changes throughout tech/dress/previews and I’m sure even before, and then Gabriela Francesca Carrillo had a few very notable changes. Meanwhile, the swings’ wigs only seem to have been finished much later, during the tech and put-in stages or even more recently, which is what you’re referencing there! Since those were finished much later on AND we’re getting photos from put-ins, we’re getting photos of some of the first times the swings wore those wigs. That whole “does this or does this not work” stage is therefore happening much more publicly or obviously than it typically does.  I will say that I’m surprised by the sheer number of totally new wigs, though! Usually we primarily see minor re-stylings (like Keri Rene Fuller’s) or total re-styles when a color just doesn’t work on an actor, like Kelsee Sweigard’s Seymour. Seeing a totally new wig in a totally different style to the degree of Erin Palmer Ramirez’s Parr or Kelly Denice Taylor’s Cleves is still more uncommon even for Six (although we have had similar scenarios recently, like w/ Tsemaye Bob-Egbe’s new Howard). Regarding Boleyn full wigs... 1. Full wigs just better protect an actors’ own hair. If an actor constantly wears and styles their own hair day in and day out in the same style, it’ll become much more prone to breakage and can be exposed to more product than can be healthy for it. While half-wigs certainly help with that, some of the hair is still left out and exposed. Full wigs allow for the full head of hair (or very close to it) to be put into a style that better protects it and exposes it to less styling product and heat.  2. Full wigs are also typically more efficient. In theatre the actors are responsible for their own wig prep (pincurls, braids, protective styles, whatever it is). The wigs then need to be put on by a member of the hair/wig team. If it’s a full wig, that means their responsibility is just to put the wig on and make sure it’s correctly secured. If it’s a half wig or hairpiece, they need to put the hairpiece on and either style the rest of the actors hair or make sure the actor has correctly styled it themselves. If the actor does not have a wig or hairpiece (like Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert for Boleyn on Broadway), the hair/wig team member would typically need to style the hair to fit the design. All of that can be a pretty lengthy process, so having a full wig that minimizes the amount of work wardrobe/wigs team has to do before the show can help make the whole process more efficient. (note that whoever is responsible for upkeeping the wigs on a specific production is still also responsible for styling and maintaining them! This is more about when wigs are being put on and/or hair is being styled immediately before a show starts) 3. Full wigs also allow for changes to an actor’s hair color/texture/style depending on a desired look or design. This is always really complicated, but sometimes certain colors/lengths are just going to look better for a costume than others and changes will be made to try and get that most flattering look. Some of these changes are really major, like Kelsee Sweigard’s original ginger wig. Others are much more subtle, like Mallory Maedke’s Seymour wig, which is a slightly more muted tone of ginger compared to her natural hair color. Storm
Hopefully that helps clear up some of the questions! If there’s anything I can better clarify or expand on let me know.

Fun Facts about the NAT Aragon Cast
So, the North American Tour cast is finally out! Here’s an incomplete list of places where you may know them from, videos of them performing music from Six and beyond, and little bits of trivia I found notable. I had more background knowledge or was able to find more info on some of the cast members than others, but I tried to include what I could.
Khaila Wilcoxon - Khaila just left the Broadway production of Hadestown, where she was a member of the ensemble and a swing for the Fates and Eurydice - You can see her perform All I’ve Ever Known here Storm Lever - Storm originated the role of Duckling Donna in both the La Jolla and Broadway productions of Summer - She’s also been in several productions at La Jolla and The Old Globe (San Diego) - Despite being on Broadway I can’t find a ton of content with her, but here’s a 2 minute interview and a performance I’m obsessed with
Jasmine Forsberg (she/her) - Jasmine has written some original musical theatre content - She’s a ‘21 theatre grad from Penn State (college theatre students during the pandemic unite) - Most of her performances are in Orlando and at Penn State, but she was in a Hallmark film and Iconis’ newest musical Love In Hate Nation - She is Filipino, which she talks about a little bit on her website
Olivia Donalson - Starting in Sep 2016, Olivia has been in Aladdin; she’s currently in the ensemble in the Broadway production and was previously fortune teller/attendant in the National Tour - She’s also been in several Disney cruise productions - You can see her sing part of Burn and a performance from a Broadway Sessions cabaret (her voice is insane????) Didi Romero - Didi is a Puerto Rican actor and Youtuber - She has a ton of singing videos on her Backstage and Youtube - She has mostly performed in Puerto Rico, but in the continental states she did a production of In the Heights as Nina in Sacramento and a few shows at AMDA - She primarily speaks Spanish on her social media accounts (@lightleckrereins is thrilled) Gabriela Francesca Carrillo - Gabriela is a lifestyle, vlog, and astrology Youtuber - She currently lives in LA but is from Chicago - This fall she was in La Mirada’s production of Mamma Mia as Sophie; other credits are mostly from Tuacahn Amphitheater and Berklee - She started playing Elsa in Disney: Live at the Hyperion a few weeks before its closure due to Covid :( - Gabriela identifies herself as Mexican and Latina; she is also pansexual - She’s been in uncredited roles in a few TV shows including Love Victor (quite literally just including this to see if there are other fans in this fandom)
Kelly Denice Taylor (she/her) - Kelly is the alto in DCappella, Disney’s acapella singing group - She previously performed as Universal Studios Japan and on Disney cruises - Six is the first Broadway show she’s ever seen; she saw it the week of NAT callbacks!
Erin Palmer Ramirez (she/her) - Erin was previously in the US Tour of Les Mis. She was in the ensemble and understudied Eponine. - She’s also performed in a number of regional performances, college performances at Emerson, and in cruise productions - She originally auditioned to play Katherine Howard in the Bliss 3.0 production - You can see a few performance videos of her here - She lists trampoline as one of her special skills which is a pretty uncommon sport in the US?  (I love it so of course I had to include it on here)
Kelsee Sweigard (she/her) - She is about to leave the national tour of Pretty Woman - Her previous touring credits include Kinky Boots and Maureen Johnson in the 20th Anniversary Tour of Rent
Cassie Silva - Cassie was briefly a swing in the Broadway production. - She is an LA stage and screen actor - She’s currently in the Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye (here come the Starkid fans) - She was on the MTV show The Search for Elle Woods - She was in the Broadway production of Rock of Ages and the Broadway and national tour productions of Matilda - She played Brenda in the 2007 film adaptation of Hairspray - She’s a dance teacher
