Some references from the CC Ultimania Q&A. I want to share this so that I may look this up if I ever need to remember details on the origins of Genesis and Angeal. I also find the details about Genesis’s parents very interesting. He did not know of their real love for him or how they protected him. He killed them because he believed they were always just his stationed guardians. This is sad.

Also I found this cute. Sephiroth and Angeal fighting each other to donate blood to Genesis within that quick moment ahaha.

Angeal wakes up one night to find genesis and sephiroth at each other. Just staring. When asked both say "I cannot lose this staring contest." Angeal gives up and goes to bed. Next morning they're still standing there.

That's something they would do. Unfortunately, I don't see Genesis winning this round! Those cat eyes are absolutely lethal.

...Angeal just brushes past him so he can get a drink.

Have you really been writing Zack and Seph since the sixth grade? 🥺

How did you first get into FVII?

Yesss!! 💕 Well, kinda! xD I started writing fanfic period during the summer of when I was going into 6th grade — a 101 page-long google doc epic abt a Houndoom that I will not share unless there is some extreme demand for it 😂 — and started writing FF7 fics in the middle of 8th grade. The first one I ever wrote was actually about Angeal & Genesis mentoring Seph, but I never finished. The first one I did finish was a Zack & Seph fic called “Blazes & Bullets”, which was a Nibelheim fix-it bc HECK I fell in love with these two so much and discovered how much Seph’s betrayal of Zack hurt me a little too severely 😂

And the reason I fell in love with ZS? Well, that credit goes to a phenomenal author by the name of LuckyLadybug, whose fics I discovered and kept my heart happy during Covid. They’re oldies from around 2006-7 (literally, they were being written before I was born xD), but they were the most loving, engaging and special platonic ZS fics that I have ever read. And I was so inspired by her that I wanted to carry on that torch and write platonic ZS adventures of my own! 💕

How I got into FF7 period goes back to Sephiroth’s appearance in Smash Bros. Fell absolutely head-over-heels in love with him during his intro trailer, and in the following days (this is, like, beginning of 8th grade for me), I spent hours upon hours devouring Remake cutscenes, og cutscenes, and eventually a playthrough of Crisis Core. After that came a fanfic-binging spree, then I found LuckyLadybug, and now we’ve come full circle! 😂

I’m in the 11th grade now, and I’m still going strong with my hobby!!! Writing fanfic — especially Zack & Sephiroth — has been a huge, huge cathartic escape for me, as well as a way for me to stretch my writing muscles and evolve! I’m grateful every day for stumbling across a community where I am welcomed, and to have a safe and cozy place to share my work. You guys absolutely rock!! <33

So looking at the FVII compilation as a whole, we know that Sephiroth was Shinra's poster boy back in the day.

Marketable.

Presumably it was carefully controlled propaganda designed to indict gullible young men into the SOLDIER program (or the infantry if they weren't good enough) ... one of many ploys designed by the company to increase their popularity and strength by utilising the working classes and essentially using them as disposable in the war against Wutai and any uprisings on the continent.

So my question is...how far did this actually go?

Was it written into his employment contract? Did he have to sponsor products? Did he have to attend galas and balls and give speeches and appear on talk shows?

Or was it kept more on the down low; his reputation essentially built on lies while he was kept busy on mission after mission around the world? There's evidence for that too (in crisis core).

I just find it fascinating as a concept.

Everyone pretty much loves villain!Sephiroth (as do I), but I am living for this idea that he was an exceptionally talented and intelligent young man trapped in a really shitty situation, in a really shitty, technical corporate contract, and that's at least a solid 56% of the reason he lost his marbles in Nibelheim.

Like, he has to watch every word that he says, in case it gets misconstrued. Or he's not allowed to openly speak his mind (especially about work).

Basically just being an empty figurehead for the masses to enjoy and consume, with no real life of his own.

Hi I’m sorry bother! I never played fvii but I always see things about cloti and like them very much, I intend to play the game soon but could you please tell if they’re endgame/ canon? I saw a lot ppl ship Tifa x Zack, Aerith x Cloud and Aerith x Zack so idk if they all really have story or is something fan made. I don’t mind spoilers *

Hello anon, it's no bother at all 😊 As a Cloti blog I'm obviously biased towards them as a pairing so I just want to mention that upfront. That being said: yes the story has them as endgame. They confirm their mutual feelings the night before the final battle and then move on to build a life together, like in the book "On the Way to a Smile" and Advent Children they live together as a family.

Zack and Aerith are also canon, their love story is portrayed in Crisis Core which is a prequel to FFVII featuring Zack as the main protagonist who meets Aerith and they fall in love until tragedy strikes and they get seperated.

Cloud and Aerith is a tricky question to answer, it's full of what if's and people liking their dynamic and potential. The game operates on an illusion vs reality plot line and part of that is the romantic plot line, plus the game has a point system/dating mechanic so it is part of the illusion that you can pick your love interest. And it is kept ambigious if Cloud has ever felt any romantic feelings towards Aerith or not, we only learn in the compilation that Aerith did have romantic feelings for him, now it's up to interpretation if you want to call them one-sided or not. Plus - and this again goes into plot - what attracted Aerith to Cloud in the first place were the similarities she saw in him to Zack who is her first love, she tried to re-create her moments of the past with Cloud and only during the journey of the game is able to move on. Cloud himself has his own issues which I don't want to spoil cause it's the best reveal of the game. So the ship is kind of up to interpretation but what is certain is they never were in a relationship with each other and are not endgame in the story.

Zack and Tifa I would say have the least or even no story behind them. They meet in game but barely have any interactions between them. What I can think of is Tifa as a child expressing a desire to be saved by a hero & Zack being a hero is what makes people want to match them up with each other apart from just liking their characters best and wanting to see them together or liking their aesthetics.

Hmm, I am looking through endless Ultimania translations to find a bit of information on a Crisis Core scene that will help me finish a post but as usual I became distracted.

(From the Crisis Core guide).

I was thinking about this fusion pod that Hojo lets Zack enter. Hojo can also apparently use it to physically enhance subjects?

Somehow Zack is infused to become stronger and then….

Hmmm.

Too much enhancement leads to degradation for SOLDIERs.

Alas, they all have their limits.

Well. Except one…

“You do not have the ability to copy unto others. Your DNA cannot be spread. Thus your body cannot deteriorate.”

Sephiroth’s cells have no limitations. How proud Hojo must have been, to discover that his first-rate science experiment, could not degrade or reach the limit of his cells.

He could enhance Sephiroth endlessly, making him stronger and stronger. Always superior to Hollander’s experiments. Never reaching a limit to what Project S could endure.

There was no threshold, was there?
