Trying to convey all my Big Sopping Heart emotions in few words is so hard. Rain ghoul design lore 🐟🐟
When he was first summoned, he only had one horn! His left.
In my head, Meliora/Prequelle masks have hollow horn sleeves (?), so the horns on those aren’t part of a ghoul. Just pockets for their actual horns to sit in.
His horn erupted at the beginning of the Impera era and that was an Ordeal. Initially, his helmet just had the one hole for his one horn, but that second horn was coming in FAST. So they cut a small hole over where his new horn was coming in, and put (what was supposed to be) a temporary patch over it. Gives him an extra few millimeters to grow into. He wore his helmet constantly because it was something that wasn’t tight and kept his entire head in darkness.
He goes to Dew for comfort, and he stayed with him the entire night, wiping away his tears and applying heat relief when asked for. Absolutely glued to each other. The headache became so unbearable that one night he had Aether knock him completely out. First time under total quintosis and it is Scary honestly. I think it’d feel like how kicking yourself awake feels, like you’re falling. A lot.
His body was able to destress and focus on pushing that damn horn out now that he couldn’t feel the pain, and ended up piercing through that “temporary” patch during the night.
Dew barely got sleep that night but was still so willing to rise when Aether came to wake up Rain the next morning. Thoughts of Aether helping Rain out of the bunk and just pushing Dew gently back down by his chest when he immediately sits up to follow them. Very “you did good, you can rest now, I’ll take care of him.” Dew’s shirt still stuck to him with tears and sweat from Rain’s struggles of the night. Dew doesn’t seem too thrilled about having to leave Rain, but with how fast he falls asleep, Aether’s sure he’ll thank him later.
Rain stealing Dew’s sunglasses because the headache remains, but it’s not as awful, just a dull ache now as everything settles back down.
So yeah, asymmetrical horn length on Rain 👍

i was thinking about silvervance's happy ending, yknow, the one where they get their own android bodies and move out of night city, and i realized—they're always meant to go back.
like they'll spend the winter out there in montana in some cabin away from everything, but they'll still get merc work. they both need to keep their hands busy; domesticity isn't something either of them are used to.
vance gets the ending he was supposed to have in canon: toppling arasaka and finally leaving night city. he gets the girl, he gets the life of freedom that he wanted.
but night city...that's a hard city to let go of, especially when almost everyone vance and johnny love are still there.
