Andre Braugher, 1962-2023.
We are saddened by the news that actor Andre Braugher has passed away, aged 61, after a brief illness. But we are glad to celebrate the life and work of this deep-voiced, deadpan legend with a wealth of wonderful tributes from across the dashboard—as Tumblr pays tribute to this biggest, warmest of hearts the only way it knows how. Oh Captain, Our Captain.

Andre Braugher is dead.
When I moved to LA to go to film school, the experience was (while not soul crushing) not the most encouraging. And I started to wonder if I really wanted to pursue writing.
And then came HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET. And Andre Braugher's so-good-you-couldn't-believe-it-was-physically-possible performance as Frank Pembleton. It blew me away. Every week.
He was so good, I knew I had to write, just for the chance to one day put words in his mouth.
He was great in everything I saw him in after that, but when he turned up in BROOKLYN 99, it was another revelation.
His Raymond Holt was so funny, I was reduced to tears. Every week.
Two fictional policemen, two radically different tones, two performances that could be linked in their similarities and taught in acting classes for their differences.
There was NO ONE like Andre Braugher. He was, to my thinking, the finest actor I've ever seen.
I do not know if we will ever see his equal.
Funny thing is, when I watched Homicide in grad school, it was with two of my best friends, a married couple. And they watched Brooklyn 99 with their kids, decades later. So Andre Braugher has had a different importance to them - one primal and generational.
Sadly, I never did get to put words in his mouth. And I'm sad about that. But it is nothing compared to the loss the world has suffered, as he will never play another role again.
Rest in Peace, Andre Braugher. You gave me so much, and I wish I could have let you know that.

I really want someone to do an Andre Braugher tribute of him walking into the bullpen and Richard Belzer (Det. John Munch) making some snarky comment about him finally showing up and didn’t Andre realize what Belzer was dealing with while he was waiting.

You guys are gonna go on like this forever. It's the nature of your relationship.
⤷ I'm staying right here (...) This is where I belong.
⤷ No, I'm here with Bayliss, so you got problems beyond that, you gotta go to somebody else.

If you only know the amazing Andre Braugher as Captain Holt, you should also see what he did as Frank Pembleton in Homicide. This interrogation scene is powerful:
What a phenomenal actor👏 and what a tremendous loss 💔
