alright, as someone who's an avid "skin scent" hunter when it comes to perfumes, glossier you has always seemed really scentless to me when I tested it in-store. I was determined to give it a real go, though, so I ordered a sample and it arrived today!

my verdict is this: is smells a lot like Room 1015 Sonic Flower, and that isn't a compliment coming from me. both of them smell weirdly like a shoe store to me. like a DSW, you know? or a Foot Locker. not shoe-funk-y, but like... big box shoe store. fresh, clean, but deeply consumerist and put-upon, artificial. chemically-laundered shoe materials and rubber. I feel like a sales associate is about to ask if I want to try another size.

I think it's the powder note. both you and Sonic Flower are heavy on their powder notes, and powder doesn't seem to be my thing, especially not when it dominates.

my favorite skin scenes—Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perfume (Superdose) and Phlur Missing Person—DO both have powder notes in them, but the powder is deeply overshadowed by musk, or wood. I also enjoy DedCool Xtra Milk, which again has powder, but more musk than powder.

I consider this a win, since I like you's bottle too much and am grateful that I will not be tempted to buy it now lol.

#I AM tempted to start keeping a spreadsheet or something to track fragrances I've sampled/tested/whatever #because my memory is garbagé and I think it would yield interesting insights to my preferences #but eh that sounds hard and like a lot of work lol

I got a sample of Sel Santal by Clean Reserve over the weekend and I am OBSESSED. This is going to be my go-to in the summer, I can feel it. A lovely, mineral-y salt note, citrus, fig, cream, sandalwood, and some musky rosy florals under that. It reminds me of the smell of skin after being on the beach, salty and pleasantly sunscreen-y.

I do think that if sandalwood fragrances remind you of pickles, though, the salt in this probably would heighten that association

I just want to complain and say it’s not fair that I discovered I really must have sensitive skin (I denied it for awhile) and have had to phase out/use up all the body washes, lotions, scrubs etc I had with fragrance and now can’t use anything fun or my skin gets irritated. Like if I even think an ingredient could be classified as part of the fragrance family, it’s gotta be avoided. I still haven’t really found fragrance free stuff that for sure works. I feel like everything irritates maybe? Maybe it’s all in my head? Like maybe I want to just smell like a damn bakery sometimes like is that too much ask? But no! That’s not for me apparently

obviously the scented wax market is hugely oversaturated, like everywhere you look someone is selling wax melts and candles (and other handcrafted goods like soap), and honestly there's only so much you can do with them to stand out from your competitors, at the end of the day you're still just selling scented wax, and luckily I'm just doing this as a (very expensive, labor intensive) hobby where I can maybe make back some of the money I invested in it by selling my products

but like I see so many people on candlemaking fb being like "I took one candlemaking class and decided it's what I want to do with my life!!! I want to leave corporate america and become my own boss and run my own candle company!!!"

and it's like babygirl I don't know how to tell you that that's a terrible idea and you're probably not going to become successful enough to quit your day job lol

#also like. taking one candlemaking class and deciding you want to sell candles is wild #making candles isn't hard. but making GOOD candles is hard #the amount of testing you need to do is insane #and taking one class where they already did the work of testing the vessel and wax and wick and fragrance does not prepare you for that lol

Got a 4-pack sampler on these fragrances that look like cigars. A fun novelty, even featuring a nice texture to the vials, and reviewers said the Gold variety smelled extremely similar to the well known and much more expensive Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male.

I can't compare the two, but I can say the Gold smells quite good. Which is fortunate because the others smell more akin to cleaning products to me; with the Blue being especially chemical. Like a plastic Christmas tree. The Orange is quite a lot like orange counter cleaner.

Buy the Gold, skip the rest. They're crazy cheap anyway.
