Amazing rare druzy Permineralized Wood from the Triassic Period in Germany. Preserved fibrous textures, putting it in its own fossilized wood classification! Dinosaurs could have sat on this chunk for all we know😂🦖🦕🌳
Hiked 4km up this river (with no trail) with this big ol' rock in my backpack to bring it home. The fossil bivalves are Eumarcia (Atamarcia) Thomsoni and are 7.2-15 million years old! The fossilised wood (no, that isn't charcoal) is even older 😳
A Petrified Wood Sphere
Araucarioxylon arizonicum
Late Triassic, approx (225 million years ago)
Chinle Formation, Arizona, United States
6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. 10.1 pounds (4.6 kg).
Displaying tones of brown, pearl, yellow, and orange, this petrified wood specimen has been polished to reveal details of its natural character, outstanding preservation, and well-defined growth rings.
Fia an Earth Flower and guardian of the Mushroom Forest and Midnight Swamp. She acts as a druid of sorts and protects the areas from troublemaking Flowers and Monruit overpopulations.
Some glowing rocks! It’s surprisingly hard to get a still photo with my UV flashlight, partly because direct light wants to blow out on my phone but the fluorescence fades quickly as it gets less direct. I think these are okay though! I dubbed the first one the “party bowl”
I was today years old when I heard about the incredible Incense-Cedar Wood Wasp. Syntexis libocedrii is the only living species of Symphytan in the Anaxyelidae. It is considered a living fossil since the family has an extensive Mesozoic fossil record. It has the unique ability to oviposit in burnt incense-cedar. The wood is often still smoldering when the sawfly is laying its eggs. Nature is fascinating.
My fluorescent (glowing) rock and radioactive materials collection that I've been building for about a year with my partner. Looks cooler IRL than what my phone camera can do. I've labelled everything with the color they glow as the text color.
Flynn likes to be involved with everything I do. If he sees me crouch down to look at something &/or pick it up, he likes to come & inspect it as well. In case it's interesting. Or edible. Or both.
In this case, I'd found a fossil. According to Flynn this falls in the "Not Interesting" category but he gave it a polite sniff all the same. Like I politely praise him when he finds & shows me puddles & molehills. We humour each other.
Such a teeny tiny fossil! It's one of the smallest I've found. Probably at least 420 million years old, which is just completely wild.
that's my emotional support thing i picked up off the ground and put in my jacket pocket six months ago and now whenever i wear the jacket & put my hands in my pockets like to touch & turn over for comfort
