well i think the reason why Aemond has turned out to be the "dutiful son" because at first the showrunners didn't want Daeron to be in the show, and it was Daeron who has the dutiful son/the most popular son of Alicent and the closest to her, so obviously they give him a lot of Daeron's personality traits. But since Grrm confirmed that Daeron will be in S2 maybe we will see more of Book!Aemond characterization or maybe it's me just being too hopeful that we will not get more of the whitewashing of Aemond, and it has been very annoying that they literally adapted Mushroom's claims about every and each character except Losermond. They're very close to turning him into Gary Stu. Also Helaena is highly underdeveloped she doesn't even feel like she is human, she is more like a mere plot device. and they didn't put any foundation for their made up ship. Is it because he said he will marry her? will that because he is oh so dutiful and cares about his house legacy. they looked at each other? Well Aegon kept staring at Rhaenyra during the dinner scene, does that means he is in love with her or has fathered Aegon iii and Viserys ii? This is silly.

Yes, it is silly, yet anon that is what we have as a reason for why some fans ship those two.

Even if Daeron hadn't been in the show, Aemond's characterization should not change, because he was what he was and it is integral to how the Dance played out as it did toward the end.

And how could one not have Daeron and his bungling of the taking of Tumbleton, how things went down there, and his burning Bitterbridge thinking Lady Caswell was responsible for Maelor's death?! Were they thinking of making Ormund Hightower the leader of that part of the green forces?! Like, how boring, if so!

Hate all this for Helaena, the underdevelopment. The lack of it. She's a nonentity, despite having such power. Gone to waste altogether. Not even scenes with her trying to use it for her family of either side or see her try to connect with Rhaenyra (what stops her? fear of repercussions? direct tellings from Otto and Alicent? disinterest? depression? we'll never know because the writers think that action>character development). She may have only been mentioned at most 10 times throughout the Dance and never played an active role besides killing herself and talking one quote of displeasure and sarcasm in canon, but the show had its opportunity to make her a real person and it instead decided to make her a nearly silent decoration that happens to see images in her head that everyone just...brushes off?!

I'm afraid I can't be optimistic as you about Aemond's whitewashing ending by the first episodes of the next season. In any first season, you set up your character's motivations and values to lead into the rest of the next episodes until its end, where their selves either undergo great changes or continue to serve a lighter purpose -- depending on how central they are and what the writer/director wants to do with them. Everything hinges on what's presented in that first season, in the first portrayal of that character, in the first turning points in their personal development. For Aemond, that was him in episode 6 being bullied due to not having a dragon by his own brother and the V boys, him claiming Vhagar and "proving" his Targness/strength, and him obviously eager to battle at least with Daemon.

The firsts are not only supposed to let the audience know who this character is and why we should care about them OR what get us hyped for the rest of more rising action; they set this character up and lets us know what sort of person/role they are and what the writers want to do with their arc, and it presents their perspective of that character and their arc.

So if we see Aemond consistently get whitewashed and it being done in the first season...there's a 98% certainty that he will continue to be whitewashed. The other two percent is the abused hope I'm currently putting up only for me to pretend I never said anything at all if I'm wrong (I jest).

god i hate Stregobor. they really ‘whitewashed’ his grossness. and this whole tale really. in the book Gerald was far quicker to call out the sorcere’s bullshit, for one. quicker to point out the political side which here is vaguelly hinted only (and it matters because you can immediately tell that there was an interess to killing renfri, to take her throne, not because of the ‘cursed’ bullshit. she would not be the first queen to be cruel. that was not the reason they wanted to get rid of her.). Gerald was also quick to point out the sorcerer’s insidious lies, his gross sexism. He wasn’t bored with them like in the show - but genuinely annoyed, irritated by them. when that tale came around in the book it was the first moment i genuinely started to *like* gerald, actually. like, before i did too but that was the moment i started to enjoy myself in his company. And Renfri too was more brutal than this ep makes her out to be - at least it seemed like that to me. (with reason! the whole question of ‘is evil born or made’). it’s why their story was such a favorite of mine: there was a genuine conflict in it - and it showcased better the cost of not making a choice (for gerald). i mean, if it were me i would kill the sorcerer cause he’s gross and its obvious, but i can’t deny that Renfry was freaky af. dont get me wrong tho, i still  love and support her 100% 

ciri is very sheltered, huh. i know we’re not going to see her first meeting with gerald, which dissapoints me a bit. it was very cute in the books. 

gerald’s ‘let him live and just move on with your life’ seemed especially shitty to me. why should she forgive her hunter, her tormentor? why would that make her a mosnter? this is insane to me. he should have been brought to justive for what he did to her and so many others like her. he DESERVES to die. in the books at least there was some doubt - not on this but on whether the girls really were cursed. but here there is none. 

dont get me wrong - i get why gerald doesnt get invovled: he’s not some assassin, that’s his point. but the ‘right and wrong’  of the situation is far more simple than what he makes it out to be. and the choice he resents are not the only choices. nor the only right ones, or just ones.

this escalated quickly is the theme of whatever is happening in Cintra.  it’s supposed to be emotionally hard-hitting but its missing the mark cause it all happened so fast.  and it lands somewhat on hte wrong side of melodrama? idk ... 

I liked the fight as far as choreography when but they really failed to show that which i was most impressed by in the book: this unstoppable quality of their clash. gerald did not clearly have the upper hand - it was a fight to the death for both of them, and it was clear from the start that it would be because neither could shy away from their nature, the unwillingness to bend, to compromise. it was over before it had started, in a way. and it was why it was so tragic, to me - like that saying ‘unstoppable force and unmovable object.’ here its just a fight. i guess they really had to show how good gerald was with a sword. meh 

how quick of this gross wizard to assume that Renfri only earned the loyalty of her men because of magic. that fucker! 

the way they made this happen paints Gerald in even worse light tbh - maybe this was the idea. idk  . the whole thing is just deeply sad. i was so so sad when Renfri died in the book and im even *more* so here, because she clearly deserved justice. here there was no doubt of it at all. and instead of makeing Gerald look as someone who did not want to take part in one revenge or the other (while still beliving that Renfri had her right to it), it makes him seem like some shirtlord who doesnt think a girl robbed of her birthright and who has been raped and hunted, deserves her justice. especially because they dont mention that Renfri would have killed everyone in that twice mentioned marked day, until stregebor came out of his tower.

Do you consider the 2Ps to be insane?Mostly not. All that is canon about them are sketches, so we dont really know. Though I get the evil counterpart thought, I dont really think it is done well. There isnt much thought given to history, though the 2Ps could be used utterly perfectly for dark historical fanficiton. So, insane no. Even if 2P Russia has one hella creepy smile. idk if this was just me paying extra attention because Ben but honestly i usually struggle to be able to follow plots in films, especially superhero ones with complicated stuff like this but i never once struggled to understand what was happening or why or what the plot was or the motivations etc etc etc??? which is frankly a miracle

in fact i definitely feel like i understood everyones motivations fairly well, even christine’s like of course her character arc was pitiful and women in films need to be treated better but at least it was cool how for most of the movie she was actually just chilling and ignoring stephen jksdghjdlfs good for her

idk if i can speak to the pacing because i paused a lot but like it was almost 2 hours long and it felt Good and didnt feel like idk dragging at all? it felt like it had good punctuations of really cool big effects/fast loud scenes, good story carrying it, etc

the humor actually felt really good and not super forced like i really genuinely laughed and the timing/joviality of the characters was good omg

also the whitewashing thing was def an issue though there was a decent amt of diversity on screen- could have been more though as always

the fact that the main mechanism in this movie and this section of the universe is like magic is sooooo good because theres no over explanation of like, nonsense science or whatever? and they dont try too hard to explain it and ruin it and/or make it annoying they just Let It Be magic.....which is really nice? and also the glowing effects look really cool

Changing an institution is hard. I could care less personally if there were Latino actors or not. I represent myself, I don’t need someone to represent me. Yes you have a point that there are people who call Mexicans some pretty ugly shit, but I don’t really care because I know who I am. I understand your frustration with the casting of GitS but here’s the thing. It’s a manga. This cry of whitewashing reminds me of the idiots who were upset about Hermione being portrayed as a young black girl. For the love of god, it’s a book and its all left up to interpretation.

Why make a big deal over nothing? Things should have creative freedom. If they remake GitS live action and cast an Asian women, that would be awesome. If they cast a black or latina women, cool that’s great but it’s all left to interpritation. Are you going to shame every person who cosplays Motoko for not being Asian? Are you going to call everything white washing because it doesn’t meet your creative standards?  Granted I say this because I’ve experienced and lived my life differently due to my condition, and not everyone will understand why I won’t call GitS whitewashing and that’s fine. Art should never be restricted or censored to fit the wants of the public. If you want to be the change then prove them wrong and show them who you are. Continue to go auditions and continue to get rejected but the more you persist the more people will notice you for you.
