The Mortal Instruments: Into Idris
~post-City of Bones (the events of both the movie & the 1st book), Jonathan Morgenstern & Jasmine Katriora Wayland go to Idris on Valentine's orders. They are to gain the trust of Clary & Jace, respectively, enough to steal the Mortal Cup before it's put into The Gard in Alicante for safekeeping. Basically if the 1st 3 books were combined/fast tracked~
---
"You look beautiful," Jonathan whispered to her, eyes watching who was coming and going.
"Yeah, you too," Jas muttered. She and Jonathan had fucked once, a week & a half ago. She'd assumed he was a mundane. Then they'd dueled when he revealed that he was actually Nephilim, son of the man who had tried to kill Downworlders far and wide. Jonathan had won, & then he told her he understood how it was to be a Nephilim who hunted alone. His father was a man blinded by hatred. When it was time, Jonathan would kill him. But before that, he and Jas deserved to get their revenge on the Clave.
"I see them. Father was right--the golden blond one stands out," he said bitterly. Jas kept her thoughts about his jealousy to herself and led the way over to the four teenagers: two who shared the same frowns & dark hair, a girl who was without runes, & the blond who had to be Jace not-exactly-Morgenstern (Valentine's other "son")...her target.
"Hi, I don't think I've seen you before. I'm Jasmine Silverhand & this is Sebastian Ashwinder--we live in his parents' manor house in the country," she explained, easily remembering the fake names they'd chosen. It wasn't hard. Jonathan was like a snake, clever & swift. She, being a Wayland, was used to working metals with her hands. Unlike her, her partner found it much easier to smile amongst the enemy.
"I think I'd remember you," he said with a charming drawl, but it was directed towards Clarissa Morgenstern, the one whose trust he was supposed to focus on earning. She was the only one who could pull the Mortal Cup out of the card, after all.

hi Emma! I hope you don’t mind me popping in here like this. I admired your work and writing so much, you capture jace so well and it leaves me in awe to see your writing/portrayal. Do you have any tips on connecting with a character? I’ve been in a slump and every time I find a character that presents interest to me, it’s still difficult for me to connect with them and hear their voice in my writing.
hello lovely!!! i don’t mind at all omg, i actually feel honored that you came to me ahausidhasui thank you so so so much, this means a lot and i’ve actually been needing to hear it <3
honestly i'm gonna say what works for me personally, but it can be different for everyone. i find that it’s difficult to connect and maintain muse for a character i don’t fully understand. jace wasn’t the first tmi muse i wrote, i actually wrote alec for a long time - but i ended up connecting with jace the most along the way the more i understood him. characters have several layers just like people: what drives them, what makes them laugh, what makes them sad, what angers them, what hurts them or has hurt them in the past. i think the first step is understanding who they are fully so maybe try some character development exercises?
what i do suggest is to “abandon” canon in the sense that you want to stay true to it, but try thinking of this character as an oc to sort of free your mind when it comes to understanding them, if that makes sense? think about their past whether source material has given you the info or not - in which case you can create it yourself. think about how all the key events in their life has shaped them and how it still affects them, including their behavior and how they treat others. jace, for example, comes off as deeply narcissistic and self-centered - but that’s just his outer layer, and it’s actually a defense mechanism that works as a wall to protect him from others seeing weakness in him and hurting him. he’s also extremely reckless and displays it as him thinking he’s too good to get it wrong, but it’s actually the fact that he subconsciously doesn’t care about himself and what happens to him.
so i guess that’s my advice! try to understand them wholly, why they act the way they do or think the way they do and explore all those layers. once you fully understand a character, their voice comes easier because you know how they’d act/react, feel and think.
i hope this helps!!! thank you again for coming to me, and i’m always here if you need anything <3

Alright, now that I have a nice list of all my muses…. Sirius Black, Jace Herondale, Dante Patel, Luke Castellan, Hayden Ramirez, Echo Grady, Alexia
17. do your muses get along with each other?
For the most part, some of them are similar enough that I prefer to keep them apart just in case. But I do mostly keep them pretty separate.
