TBH I feel this arc's setup would've made more sense if Deku had just ran away on his own and become an actual vigilante. He's certainly acting on his own. It feels more like the pros are there to give us some exposition and info on the current state of hero society, but they could've done that just fine while looking for a runaway Deku we could've even had more povs and characters involved. All Might could still have his Dad Might moments even amplified because Deku flat out ran away to do shit solo due to all the pressure. If push comes to shove and you need some way for All Might to locate Deku the connection between real Toshinori and Vestige Toshinori has already been established. OFA functioning as a makeshift tracker would not phase me at all withthe rest of the crap it does.

Because the current setup just makes the pros look incompetent and makes the adults look like a bunch of wet towels. If Deku is not listening you can sit him down and make him listen. These are people with decades of both life and hero experience on him. Yet the most they can do is get Deku to eat a bento? That makes them seem either incompetent or just uncaring in a meaningful way, since they'll whine about how he's pushing himself but not make it fucking clear to him that he needs to rest. I'm not saying they should spank him... but like they should be doing something. This would not be a problem if Deku had dipped and given them no weight to throw around in the matter at all.

Sorry for the long ask it's just... i don't mind Deku angst even if he's not my fav and I think an exploration of this side of him was a far too long time coming, but the setup and execution of this arc is just... boring and illogicall thus far imo. All the shounens have the angsty mc goes off on their own arc (spoilers like for ex gon from hxh has a similar arc where he becomes fixated on beating this one person to the point of losing himself in the process but that was just one part of the greater chimera ant arc that fit in there well and there was other stuff to care about so i wasn't getting bored) but just because it's a common trope doesn't mean it's gonna be well executed by default. My personal opinion is that it's lukewarm. I get what HK is trying to do but I don't vibe with how he's doing it.

The set-up does feel kind of half-assed.

I mean it sounded like Deku basically said, I'm not going back to UA - and everyone knew that there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. So then the Top 3 was, like - well, we can work around this plan.

And Deku had just no way of refusing.

But yes, it feels weird that so many people think he's vigilante, when he couldn't be more establishment if he tried.

Also, it's just enough support to say that Deku hasn't really gone alone, but feels thin enough that it's kind of still all a solo thing.

As for the constant running around- it's a tough situation, because there is a race against time, so Deku needs to level up faster than Shigaraki can heal and I guess he needs to fight villains to get that experience. So it's that fine line between speed-training and adequate rest that should be balanced (and probably isn't).

I feel like Deku is playing along, because he's still trying to live up to All Might's expectations and wants to do it like All Might did (even if All Might never ended AFO for real).

But yes, it just feels very ambiguous whether Deku is doing the right thing or the wrong thing.

That post abt the misogyny and ignoring women characters but hyping up men characters who hate like 2 lines is like Me watching fandom hype hawks as a complex character throughout his first introduction and then watching them make miruko his basically comedic sidekick bff and that's her personality also she's dating Fuyumi who's personality is "I am a civilian :)"

Watching the whole fandom hype up side chars and expanding upon them like Denki, Shinsou and Kirishima while characterizing momo and jirou as "those lesbians" and uraraka and tsuyu as "those other lesbians" or "Dekus lover interest and the frog" and don't even mention Mina or toru.

The LOV being Dabi, and shigaraki, and ohh yeah toga... She's just crazy or whatever...

It makes so sad!! And mad!! Toga is such a good character she's my favorite! The UA girls have so much potential and they're ignored all the time!!!! Miruko is such a cool hero and she is like Hawks supporting character in fandom of just sexualized 😫😫😫😫😫

Yes!! 100% agree with everything you said. Like, ofc Hk underutilizes his female charas, but that doesn’t excuse the fandom’s response to them. I also think that, if the fandom showed more interest in the female characters, writers might be motivated to do more with them.

All of the female characters have incredible potential, and it’s so easy to build on the basic foundation that’s been laid for them. Tbh, I think it’s especially frustrating seeing them relegated to just lesbian ships. It’s literally putting zero effort into characterizing them, but still using them to fit in your cute/sexy wlw. That’s just fetishization.

And then you have Toga, who, while vastly underutilized, still has so much canon information that we could work with!! She’s probably the best written and most complex female character in the series, but in fan works, she’s still ignored most of the time or grossly mischaracterized/simplified when she is included. Compress, Spinner, and Giran tend to get more development than she does, which makes no sense considering what we have to work with. She has just as much potential as Dabi and Tomura, and I wish more people would expand on it.

Miruko gets maybe the worst of it, for the exact reasons you mentioned. So many people misinterpret fetishization as good representation because she’s shown as strong and sexy. And then the fandom just compounds it by relegating her to Hawks’ dumb sidekick. I know there isn’t much to work with (even the Vig chapters just show she’s a good fighter), but like you said, people had extensive backstories crafted for Hawks when there was the most basic of info about him available.

On a positive note, though! I’ve noticed soo many people starting to focus more on female characters!! Rei, Fuyumi, and Nana have been getting more attention, and it’s definitely spreading to the rest of the cast as well. There’s been much more active conversations about misogyny within the series (and fandom!), so hopefully this year we’ll see more of a trend toward content that features women. Acknowledging the problem is the first step to solving it, and a lot of people are starting to take that step.

6. which one of your muses have you been playing the longest?

The longest consistently is Angeal, who has about 10 years behind him. Who I’ve played the longest off-and-on is Vegeta, however, who... probably has another 5-10 years on him.

10. which muse is the most fun to write for?

Not gonna lie, at this point in my life I think I have the most fun as Genesis, for just plain writing. He’s just so bold and confident and over the top. In some ways, he’s a lot like I was way back before things happened and I can relate. In other ways (the temper, the overinflated ego, the violent streak...) he’s very different, but still fascinating.

Honorable mention to Lazard, too, though. I’ve had such a good time as Laz on Tumblr and that can’t be overstated. He’s just not quite as versatile as Gen can be.

11. is there another muse you’ve been thinking of adding or writing for? who?

Let me preface this with most of these blogs exist, I just am shy and haven’t approached yet. Or have approached and it hasn’t worked out, which doesn’t help with the shy.

Vegeta (DBZ) - there are Goku’s out there, I just haven’t had the guts to approach one. Same for Bulma’s, and his kids. Nothing into Super, because I don’t know Super and therefore don’t count it in my canon but man... I’d love those. OH! And Piccolo would be really neat, too.

Angeal (FF7) - ZACK. Please please please let Angeal find a puppy of his own. I desperately need some catharsis from what a mess canon made of what could have been a great friendship. And Sephiroth, for that matter! (I have been blessed with a Genesis, but I mean, I do welcome more Genesis’ if they want)

Chaos (FF7) - there’s plenty of Vincent’s just not a whole lot who want to deal with Chaos. Which is a shame, because I think I write a... somewhat different Chaos. It could be a good experience.

Genesis (FF7) - an Angeal who fits my Genesis would just... be amazing. Seriously. I would also greatly appreciate a Sephiroth, and would kill for a thread where they work through that ridiculous rivalry and become friends.

Lazard (FF7) - would love, love, love a Rufus, particularly one who would like an “eventual allies” thread because you know that canon divergence is my jam. Also a Heidegger who plays in the pre-CC/BC era.

Reeve/Cait (FF7) - lumping these two together; basically, I’d really like to throw them against each other, a Cait for Reeve and a Reeve for Cait. I think it could really be cool to reach out to a Rufus, or AVALANCHE 2.0 too? idk, it would be neat

Iris (Story of Seasons) - my kingdom for a Mistel! Seriously, even in the dedicated Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Stardew Valley rp group I’m in we can’t keep a Mistel. Just let Iris have her baby brother. ;-;

Trent (SOS:FOMT/FOMT/DS/CUTE) - honestly just all the Mineral Town and Forget-Me-Not-Valley peeps. I have so much muse for this man I’m down for crossovers and everything.

Midna (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) - absolutely Link, but I’m also intrigued by Zelda, Ganondorf, and Zant

Sheik (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) - I’d actually really like to toss Sheik up or down the timeline at another incarnation of Zelda. And Link. And any of the Sages. Oh, and Ganondorf.

Ami Mizuno (Sailor Moon) - Zoicite! (Be still my shipper heart) But also, I’d really just like the other Senshi too?

Kunzite (Sailor Moon) - I’ve been blessed with a Minako (though I’m open for more!) but I would also really love Mamoru and the rest of the Shitennou.

Mamoru Chiba (Sailor Moon) - I have been blessed with some lovely Usagi’s but I’d love to see him with his Shitennou, his darling daughter, Helios and the Senshi.

Minako Aino (Sailor Moon) - Kunzite, not just because I happen to ship it but because they’re both the leaders of their Prince(ss)’ inner guard and have a lot in common that would make things Interesting. Also, Usagi and the Senshi of course, and Artemis, who I haven’t seen around at all actually.

HK-47 (Star Wars: KOTOR) - any of the Ebon Hawk crew, either set. I just want to see HK being his ~charming~ self, bonus if it’s with a Jedi or other pacifist calling the shots. Actually, even though I hate what they did with Revan in SWTOR I’d be game for tossing him up the timestream too. Or even further into the movie eras, or crossovers. C’mon, someone needs an assassin droid!

Liana Raine (Star Wars:TOR) - if we’re making a dream list, I’d love a Yuon Par, tbh. And a Hero of Tython. And any of her crew, really.

Revan (Star Wars: KOTOR) - again any of the Ebon Hawk crew (esp Carth or a Bastila that’s better rounded than canon >_>) but really any of them would be amazing. And definitely fast forwarding her to the movie eras. What a difference might have been made if they had known ahead of time how to deal with Sith. Or, for that matter, just if Anakin had had a different sort of mentor. I die for the thought of Revan as a mentor to Anakin or Obi-Wan, Force Ghost, holocron or whatever.

Tharan Cedrax (Star Wars: TOR) - a Jedi Consular (player character) would be amazing, but I’d also love Holiday or the what-if he’d gotten hooked up with a smuggler or bounty hunter crew instead. Seriously.

Duke (Threads of Fate) - I’d really love to see a Belle, because there’s a lot to explore there. Really I’d be grateful for any of the Threads of Fate cast though.

Fancy Mel (Threads of Fate) - other Threads of Fate people aside (and I’d especially love the dolls, fellow Aeons/mages, or Klaus) I’d be really interested on her talking with like, spirits or other magical beings?

1. Are you a fan of the Rey Kenobi theory? Why/why not?

I would have been fine with Rey Kenobi (because who wouldn’t want Ewan Mc Gregor as Rey’s grandpa?) but tbh of all the Rey parentage theories, I was more attracted to Rey Palpatine and Rey Nobody.

2. Other Star Wars pairings that you are a fan of?

I have no issues with any SW pairings (canon or not) but I’m not invested in any of them if that’s the question.

3. When did you first start shipping reylo and why?

December 2015, after my first viewing, although I’m not a shipper at heart so it took me 4 viewings to sort of process my emotions.

I instantly latched onto the mythological aspect of Rey and Kylo’s relationship but I also loved how the writers had subverted the gender dynamic between the two characters, and that’s what really sealed the deal for me. It also took me a few months to process and accept what I had seen inside Kylo’s character. When you’ve been living in denial for 30 years it’s scary to open up.

4. Are there other hero/villain pairings that you like? I’ll give you my first ship and one of my favorites: batcat.

Hum, not really, but kinda yes at the same time? I was into Marauder area Snupin when I was younger so it kinda fits the profile?

5. After watching Episode VIII, do you honestly believe Rey and Kylo will have a happy ending? Why/why not?

Yes. Because the seeds have been planted for them to have a reconciliation and I have a theory about how we can save Ben Solo’s neck (I am DYING to share my ideas, but it’s the whole plot of the fanfic I’m writing so I don’t want to discuss it beforehand lol). Also, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed multiple times that SW is about HOPE. There’s no point in having those two characters being killed off or separated at the end of 9.

6. List one thing you really liked about TLJ and one thing you didn’t.

Liked: Obviously Reylo. I mean, I’m one of those obnoxious shippers who never doubted it was canon and endgame but at the same time, I expected to see their relationship bloom in 9, not within the first twenty minutes of TLJ. XD I was over the moon. Also, I am so vindicated that ‘my’ reylo is canon (depressed, self-loathing Kylo & wide-eyed not-so-farting-rainbows-Rey.)

Didn’t like: I guess Leia in space is the bit that threw me off a little, especially the first time. I’m glad that we were given the opportunity to witness how strong she is with the Force but it does feel OTT.

Other than that, I can’t say I hated any other aspect of the movie because it carries messages that I strongly believe in.

7. Who is your favorite Star Wars character (that also isn’t one of the main characters in this trilogy or past ones)?

HK-47, you can tell he was written by David Gaider. <3

8. Which do you prefer: dark!reylo, reyben (redeemed!Ben Solo), or gray jedi?

Gray/Prime Jedi is my jam. Gimme balance, reconciliation, healing, and acceptance that your dark impulses are natural.

9. What do you think about Kylo’s whole “I will finish what my grandfather started!” Why do you think this is one of his main motivations, and do you think he doesn’t know that Anakin was redeemed in the end?

Ah! That sentence is so meta, I love it <3.

But okay, to me, in the context of the movie (aka what Kylo is actually thinking), it means ending the Jedi once and for all - because that was a big part of Darth Vader’s job. There’s also this misconception that Tuanul village was a settlers compound when the villagers were actually cultists of the Church of the Force. They were religious opponents to Ren, which explains why he treated them as war enemies. The Church of the Force and Lor San Tekka are really intent on bringing back the Jedi Order, which obviously goes against Kylo’s spiritual beliefs (also when a Jedi tried to kill you in your sleep, you’re probably not inclined to believe they’re the good guys.)

As for what Kylo really knows about Vader, I think that it’s pretty distorted. From Bloodline, we know he wasn’t aware that Vader was his grandfather until late, meaning his family lied to him all his life. We can safely assume that after that, he would take whatever information they fed him about Vader and the Empire with a grain of salt. This leaves Snoke, as his sole purveyor of information, which also explains why Kylo in TFA is so obsessed with connecting with objects belonging to Vader. As a Force user, that’s probably his sole source of “reliable” (ahem) information.

10. If you were a character in the SW universe, what kind of person do you think you would be? A Jedi? A stormtrooper? A PORG?!?

I would like to be a powerful Force-sensitive warrior of some sort and that’s why I really hope Rey and Kylo are going to go down the Prime Jedi route. I would be a pretty poor Jedi but I couldn’t be a Sith. But with my luck, if I was reincarnated as a Star Wars character, I’d probably be a slave on a backwater planet or a fathier.

11. And finally: Are you a writer, artist, or just here for the fun? If you are either a writer or artist, what inspires you the most in this fandom?

I've been dabbling in a bit of everything, although no one ever picks me in either fanfic writers, fanartists or meta writers lists (You’re all hurting my 3 feelings guyz!)

The dynamic between Rey and Kylo is what inspires me the most. Even when writing modern AUs I try to stay true to their characterization and what motivates them. I’m in love ‘kay?
