Omigosh yay! I'm so glad someone finally asked me about Finlay 😊✨

Okay so!

I headcanon that Finlay was a daughter who was born into House Marais and she had several brothers who had died young due to illness and was well versed in prosthetics, as the House traditionally provided them to the soldiers who had lost their limbs during battle, and more specifically, to the Demigod Malenia and her slowly rotting away flesh.

So Finlay helped Malenia fit her prothesis when she and Miquella paid visits, and to say that she was enamored with the Demigod would be an understatement. So one day, while fitting Malenias leg piece, Finlay confided in Malenia about how she wished that she could prove herself stronger than her passed brothers and the reputation of the sickly House Marais, how she wishes that she could become a Knight.

Malenia: If you truly wish to become a Knight, then I would be willing to train you personally.

Finlay: 👀

As it turns out, having Malenia as a personal trainer is a very hellish experience (which is exactly what mal experienced when she was being taught by her master lol) The training was gruesome and Malenias teaching methods unrelenting, but Finaly stuck with it regardless and in the end, became an incredibly capable and unshakable warrior.

And when Miquella had decided to head to the snowy north to find his paradise for the Haligtree, Finlay was one of the first to follow Miquella and Malenia into the unknown.

Lrb got me thinking, Radahn and Malenia presumably didn't fight in the Wailing Dunes, but in the very center of Caelid, where the Heart of Aeonia—Malenia's first bloom—now stands. This is where numerous Cleanrot Knights are found, after all, as well as the broken needle, presumably removed upon Malenia's last-ditch effort to stop Radahn.

After the battle, Radahn was "left ever to wander," and he seemingly retreated to Castle Redmane and out back to the vast expanse beyond, maybe in an attempt to isolate himself from Caelid before losing his mind entirely. Meanwhile, Finlay retrieved Malenia's sleeping figure and began her long journey back to the Haligtree.

What's striking to me is that these two locations are once again linked by the map itself, not directly, but by a shared point of interest—the Haligtree.

Curiously, the Cocoon of the Empyrean rests almost directly below the Heart of Aeonia. Drawing a line from here to the Haligtree, one particular point of interest stands between them: the Divine Tower of Caelid, linked to Radahn and his Great Rune. By contrast, Radahn's position in the Wailing Dunes produces a syzygy with the Haligtree and the Isolated Divine Tower, where Malenia's Great Rune receives its benediction. (Isn't it rather strange, after all, that Malenia's tower should be positioned so precisely in the midst of the sea?)

To me, this reads as though Radahn's repulsion of the stars had put a damper on Miquella's own plot—or rather Mohg's, as it was he who had absconded with Miquella's gestating form. However, it was Malenia who had thwarted Radahn's attempt to become Elden Lord, and thus her fate eclipsed his will as he scurried to the Wailing Dunes...

...Or, at least it's a fun way to look at yet another series of strangely fitting coincidences...
