For the writer meme: 3, 4, and 18?
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
I prefer to write from the start, but I often get ideas for later scenes. Those get written down in a separate file along with notes regarding their position in the plotline, so that it doesn’t throw me off-flow on the main document
4) favorite character you’ve written
Max “Filthwizard” Leonov, a trans kid who goes to space academy to see the galaxy, and sees a lot more than he’d ever planned on
(I fuckin swear I will finish that one and get it published, because the world needs more modern pulp sci-fi)
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
I have an unfortunate tendency to mimic other writers’ literary “voices” if I’m reading too much of one person’s stuff while I’m working – it’s like picking up accents unconsciously. That said, Emma Bull and Steven Brust’s works were formative for me – they were the first adult novels I read that had a more casual, less formalized voice and structure (it drove at least one of my English teachers nuts because she was very formulaic in her teaching, but the others were all just happy a kid was writing). Dan Abnett’s 40K novels have been my guide for writing battle scenes and handling immense casts.

I’m maintaining momentum; just did a sink-full of dishes! It wasn’t even on my to-do list, but I’d managed to get a few done yesterday so once I’d put those away I made a snap decision to get the next lot sorted out.
Feels nice to have accomplished the things that were dissuading me from doing anything. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a filthwizard living in a crapdragon’s hoard room, but actually making accommodation for my own needs when attempting these jobs is helping me fight back the “I’m just so helpless” feeling that usually rules my life. I’m too hard on myself most of the time; why can’t I do this thing that used to be very easy? My condition has worsened obviously, but I still find it difficult to accept. I’ve got to start being nicer to myself!
