Sunny? Ride. Rainy? Ride.

I guess I don’t really have much of a choice since I don’t have a permanent spot to stay on the road. Embracing the suck is part of the adventure to me and builds resilience as a person.

Besides, the rain is temporary and if you ride far enough in Ireland, you’ll escape the rain to a patch of sun to dry off long enough for the next round of rain 😹 This makes it tolerable to me.

I’m trying to find the purrrfect balance of finishing up Ireland/ the UK and getting to the West side of Europe so that their temperatures die down. It was 116F/ 46.8C in Spain a few weeks ago. Rain might be miserable, but that heat is absolutely intolerable. The other thing I have to consider is finishing before the winter comes and temperatures DROP 🙀

It was over. I felt empty.

Our breakup didn’t come as a surprise. The last months had been a struggle. I had tried everything to keep our relationship alive. I had done selfless compromises and futile attempts to make it work. At the end our lives were too different, too incompatible.

I was anxious of the time ahead of me, with single life awaiting me once more. But I also felt surprisingly relieved.

We had planned a two week holiday together. And that was in two weeks’ time. What was I going to do with that now? Nobody would be able to join me so short notice. I contemplated canceling my time off and working instead. But I realized that I needed a holiday – especially after the last months.

In the years past I had this idea of going on a bike tour. I was intrigued how traveling with a bike would be. I had hoped to go on a trip with someone. But company was not an option with two weeks to go.

After much contemplation, I had made up my mind – I would to on a bike tour to France… Probably. Like 90% sure. Damn, I was scared of that endeavor. What if I would hate it?

My vacation came closer. I was committed to my plan – more or less. I planned to take the train to Geneva and start my journey there. I didn’t have a precise route planned. Rather a rough direction. I would just decide along the way. And I could always ride to the next train station and go home if I got fed up with it. Truth be told – I just committed to a few days in my mind. And maybe that’s why I did go – because the challenge was broken down into manageable size.

I did take the train to Geneva. And I started cycling along my rough route. And I loved it from the start.

The chilly, dank jail cell wasn't exactly the vibe you were going for when you arrived back in town earlier that evening. All you wanted was to spend a little time with your mother on her birthday. Frustratingly, the town Sheriff had other ideas.

You lean against the cold, iron bars that look out directly onto the open door of his office as he sits behind his desk pretending to do paperwork. You know he's more interested in you though. He always has been.

"What's it gonna take for you to let me out of here, Sheriff? Momma's not gonna be too happy when she finds out you locked me up for the night." You huff, frustrated at his stubborn ways. Lee's always been the same. Arrogant, a mile wide chip on one of those broad shoulders and, most importantly, still pissed off that you turned him down that night three years ago. "Come on, not still mad at me, are ya?"

It becomes clear fast that he has no intention of letting you go, but you're not about to back down without a win. It wasn't that you didn't find him attractive. He was definitely different from your usual taste, but you'd be lying if you said you hadn't wondered what it'd be like to taste him. And if it would get you out of here, you'd do it.

"Sheriff, I need to use the bathroom. This toilet is blocked. You gonna make me piss myself or what?" You call, smirking to yourself when you see him rise from his desk chair and slowly make his way out of the office and towards your cell.

"I could make you piss in the goddamn corner and there ain't a thing you could do about it." He plucks the toothpick he's been chewing on from between those pink lips, rocking back on his heels slightly. "What happened t'you? Used to be a good girl. Used to be decent 'til you joined up with that gang a'yours."

Happy Monday Beautiful Earthlings! Hello from Khadzhi Dimitur also known as Buzludzha, the Monument House from the Bulgarian Communist Party. I wanted to go to this monument because it looked like a space ship and I appreciate non rectangular buildings. I rode 4 hours to and from this monument, so 8 hours total on the worst road in the freezing cold. There was snow on the mountain when I went. The place is actually really creepy and has a eerie energy here. It was really windy at the top of this mountain and I thought my bike was going to blow over, so I explored this site pretty quickly. The pictures are pretty cool, but was it worth the ride in 32 degree F/ 0 C weather? Not really. You can break in and wander, but the energy was so weird, I’ve come to realize I’m not a fan of abandoned spaces. So you get the best part of this adventure: the photos, while I suffered in the cold, wind and exhaustive ride. Do you like to explore abandoned spaces?
