Costume Cdramas I watched in 2023

My 2nd year with Chinese dramas as my love for costume drama continues.

The title links to where you can watch it (tried to find free legal watches where available)

The Blood of Youth (40 x 45min, filming started in Oct 2021, released Dec 2022) fun action drama with a good dose of comedy, not for people who want lots of romance because they are too busy (and the canon couples don't have enough chemistry, there I said it) to be making out. Good for bromance, ghost ships and/or ace character head canons. Xiao Se's fur collar wins fur collar of the year, Tang Lian is my blorbo of early 2023.

My Uncanny Destiny (24 x 30min, filmed in autumn 2021, released Jan 2023) My favorite comedy of the year. Don't get turned off by the toilet jokes, it's a gem that spoofs drama tropes, gives you a coherent plot, silliness, fun side characters, a ML that is not afraid of being silly and a FL that plays capable and silly well. This might be a low budget production but they put that money to work. Politics, cross-dressing, found family, sisterhood, enemies to lovers, third wheel bisexual who reminds me of Wen Kexing, over the top villain, himbo villain who works out shirtless all the time, it got it all.

Wulin Heroes (22 x 45min, filming started Nov 2020, released Jan 2023) I watched this for Li Hongyi and he is incredibly beautiful in this so props to his stylist and cinematographer. BUT it is a badly written and edited low budget romp. If you are not watching for any actor then do not bother. FL is bearable once you realize she is very much of a lets see where this goes kind of character. 2nd ML is a suffering captive prince turned whiny regent played by Zhu Zanjin. So if you want to see Jin GuangYao suffer, you might like his scenes?? It can totally be read as a throuple especially with the New Tales of Wulin Heroes mini series add on. The choppiness might also be a result of the dangai ban??

No Doubt in us (24 x 14min, 2021, donghua) saw this on netflix and it roped me in with the body switch trope. It's sufficiently entertaining. Though I didn't enjoy the animation style apart from the chibi scenes.)

Heaven Official's Blessing (season 1, 11 x 26min, 2020, Donghua) It's THAT story and the art style is so pretty. I haven't read the books yet but still got what was going on most of the time. Liked it a lot. Haven't watched the 2nd season yet)

The Journey of Chong Zi (40 x 45min, filming started in June 2021, released Feb 2023) This xianxia is a mess! But it gave Scorpion King Li Daikun another memorable role with being the FL's protector. Watching Wang Zhoucheng having a ball with his role was fun. Immortal turned demon Wan Jie is so handsome and tragic. It did draw me in but the main couple is just ick so every time they were apart it immediately got better. ML's refusal to take the antidote to ease his obsession was lmao, FL is naive but charming and her demon styling rocks (do not get the hate on the actress, she is selfmade and there are many bad pretty face actresses around but I guess antis attract antis). Oh and there is a bromance between two of Chong Zi's harem members

Till the End of the Moon (40 x 55min, started filming in Nov 2021, released April 2023) aka my brain rot drama of the year. Drawn in from episode 1 on. Bai Li and Luo Yunxi <3 Pian Ran, Ye Qingyu, Nian Baiyu and Si Ying. <3 I was spamming tumblr with my screenshots, it was a jolly good time to watch this epic tale of love and suffering and saving the world dilemma with a great cast, characters, costumes, sets and soundtrack with the cdrama ppl of tumblr. If this weren't too complicated for cdrama newbies I'd recommend it to all my friends. Do not skip the dream arc (I ended up liking it) or later stuff will make less sense. I'm still annoyed that we didn't get a good extra episode that wraps up some lose ends for the main side characters and that reunion of the main characters but Youku really went nah we better play it safe with censors not liking happy ends for morally grey characters.

My Queen (24 x 45min, filmed in 2020, released Jul 2021) An FL enters a romance adventure VR game drama that I watched because I needed some fluff between TtEotM episodes. Why pick this among any other sufficiently entertaining dramas that are probably better written and not as forgetable? Because I wanted to watch Hu Wei (rich nepo baby in The Blood of Youth) in another comedy role >_> and ridiculous overacting he did deliver

The Trust (30 x 45min, filmed early 2021, released Apr 2023) The life action adaptation of the manhua No doubt in us is based on. I dunno why I finished this, I guess I'm not a quitter and needed silly stuff to balance TtEotM angst. For some reason the director thought it would be a good idea to film this like a donghua and it is causing 2nd hand embarrassment. The ML cannot pull off being a woman in a man's body, not even a martial arts nerd like Xu Yu. Like Wulin Heroes it was filmed before the dangai ban but that didn't stop them from having at least two bromances.

Wanru's Journey (24 x 35min, filming started in Jun 2021, released May 2023) A mess. So IQIYI released this simply to ride on the wave of Ao Ruipeng's The Blood of Youth popularity. Because this got so chopped down because of the dangai ban and it probably wasn't good to begin with. Basically an actress transmigrates into a dangai screenplay and gets between the leads while also making money by writing fic about them (ok this is my reading but she DID release fic and drawings of them). Of course it takes an unnecessarily dramatic turn, instead of staying on the comedy side, cannot remember more of the plot, oops.

King is not Easy (20ep x 30min, released Aug 2017) I watched this for the body switch trope and Bai Lu. Nice to see her actual face before the fair skin filter got her, entertaining enough, badly written silly comedy with mind mindbogglingly contrived final 4 episodes. It's Bai Lu's drama debut so it's nice to see how far she got

Destined (40ep x 45min, filming started in Jun 2022, released June 2023) Highly enjoyable. Fell in love with Bai Jingting. What's not to love about a playboy getting put on his path by his wife and them becoming friends, sworn siblings and then lovers in the process? No this is actually about FL finding her thing (trade) and being wildly successful at it, then it's also political, revenge and more. The leads are extremely charming and have great chemistry (the drama suffers every time they are apart lbr) and the writing is good, though people are too perfect and I wasn't into the whole palace stuff.

My Journey to You (24 ep x 60min, filming started Dec 2022, released Sep 2023) Had me from episode 1 on. Made me buy IQIYI VIP so I can watch it in good quality. Fell in love with Zhang Linghe. Yu Shuxin needs to do all the wuxia while she is still fit. Why waste being able to do the splits on some modern drama? The director sent her mud wrestling and she went for it. Everyone knows she is pretty no need for her to be beautifully put together on screen 24/7. Love the style, the character introductions, the characters, the cast, the chemistry, the story, the way you expect something and something else is going on. While it started out gloomy and remained so for the most part, it surprised me with throwing in more comedy than I expected. The good old idle manchild gets thrown into a position of power story but it's a murderous martial arts clan against another murderous martial arts clan. It's giving you some information but often just enough for getting what's going on just to play with your expectations later, FUN! And I didn't even mention all the other characters because surprise! this is actually an ensemble drama with several intriguing characters. Do not expect for the two leads to be on screen all the time.

Hilarious Family (24ep x 45min, started filming in June 2022 (?), released Sept 2023) A fun ensemble comedy I watched for Jackie Li. A widow moves to another city to marry off her 4 daughters (a silly man-crazy one, a homely one, a scholar one and a tomboy one). No it's not Pride and Prejudice but yes of course this is a romcom and all women have a love interest. It kind of drops off later on tbh, but still good for the characters and side characters. The success of this in China hopefully means that Jackie Li will get to be getting more comedies to work in after the Queen Lau disaster and people having a problem with her artist alias in 2022.

Hello There (20ep x 30min, released Jan 2023) I stumbled on this on IQIYI while looking for a light fast watch that will let my brain relax. The ML's best acting moment is when he plays a wooden robot. FL is fun. There are some questionable scenes, standard low budget action comedy fare.

An Ancient Love Song (14ep x 30 min, released June 2023) A wonderfully written and executed grown up time traveling story, that shows once again that you don't need a big budget to tell a story that draws you in. Ended my palace politics blockade. All this time traveling and no reincarnation in sight. ;_;

Story of Kunning Palace (38ep x 45min, filming started in May 2022, released Nov 2023) Tieing 2nd with My Journey to You for brainrot drama of the year. The cinematography is questionable, the story is not for teaching perfect courting behavior but those two are just such a good cp in their awkward messy way. Their friends/sidekicks are fun too and bring some comedy to that story though crazy in love ML is serving some comedy too. Props to ZLH for actually trying to grasp the basics of playing qin and not just waving over the strings like other dramas deem it sufficient. Bai Lu is Bai Lu-ing, gathering her harem. Coming into this right after An Ancient Love Song the idea to defeat destiny this time around seemed hopeless to me but this is one of those they are good at making plans and they turn out mostly alright dramas. I hope those two's material for the next years is as good as the two dramas with them I watched in 2023, fingers crossed!

Currently watching: A Journey to Love and Taoism Grandmaster as well as 2/3 through a LbFaD rewatch that I started in summer.

I also watched a handful of modern dramas (made in Korea and Japan) and some mini-dramas, but that is for another post.

And yes my most watched actors are probably those uncles stuck in Hengdian, might look that up another day.

If I got the time to blog about a drama I usually do it with screenshots so my tag for those posts is excuse my bad quality screenshots. In other cases I just reblog and put my thoughts in the tags.

Dominga(Eva’s grandma)last name is actually Aramburu but was changed by her dad to Arambula to distance themselves from the House of Iturbide and the Aramburu family in Michoacan because he, Agustin Cosme Damian Aramburu y Chapul, is actually the bastard son of Emperor Agustín(Cosme Damian) Iturbide y Aramburu

The Rileys reached the height of their power in Mexico during Benito Juarez' presidnecy and the three liberal presidents after him

Eva’s mom, Isabel, won roughly 5 thousand mexican pesos(1919 value)/50,000 English pounds/American dollars(1919) after she bet that she could talk the Pope into baptizing her kid and the future pope be her godfather

Eva’s dad, Henry, accidentally hired an english woman as a governess for Eva who was then run out of town by Isabel for saying some derogatory things about the Irish

Eva is technically the only girl born in the decade of 1890 to her family because her cousin, Alejandra Riley, is actually transmasc and goes by Alejandro

Eva spent most of her childhood moving between the family hacienda, her parent's house in Veracruz and the townhouse in Mexico City

Eva’s great great grandmother, Doña Lidia, haunts the lakes and a river in the family hacienda and has drowned several people(mostly men named Agustín because she has never forgiven her lover for marrying her to his cousin and giving her only a son)

His illegitimate and favorite duaghter, Amada, took her aside and explained racism and colorism to her.

Eva was then peer pressured into putting on make up to look more white passing like the rest of her family and its why Eva cares too much about her appearance

Eva was sent to her aunt in Italy from 1911 to 1913 for her safety as her family had joined the revolution on Francisco Madero's side hoping to regain the wealth and prestige they lost while quietly opposing Porfirio Diaz

In January 1913 Madero and his wife threw Eva a huge Quinceanera to 'thank' the Rileys for their support (Eva’s birthday is in December)

In February 1913, at 15 Eva was nearly murderd by her archenemy after she sabotaged Oneida so she could play both Odette and Odile in Swan Lake

Eva and Izzy were held hostage in a hospital during the Ten tragic days in February 1913.( ten tragic days was when Victoriano Huerta and Felix Diaz(with backing from europe and the us) staged a coup in Mexico City to kill President Francisco Madero)

Eva was able to walk again but can never dance from the injury to her ankle

Felicidad gets married in june 1913 but Eva can't see her future after that and has a bad vibe about this

They hear about war brewing in europe, about germany wanting to start shit with france

Dominga brags that the war will happen because she cursed France to suffer how Mexico suffered during their invasions

Time skip, Feli gives birth and dies in feb.1, 1914, baby feli dies on feb. 28

Eva has nightmares about Veracruz being invaded, they come true in April 1914

The invasion happens, Eva’s family runs but Isabel and Henry stay behind to buy them time, eva hears the gunshots and sees them die even if they were far away by then

The Smith kids instead of going to Altamira and join with Villa, Obregon and Carranza

Eva nags her brothers into letting her go with them

Eva joins as a nurse, is almost sexually assaulted by the army captain taking the them to Chihuahua, she kills him and earns Villa’s respect

Eva becomes a nurse and a spy for him

Eva and her brothers also meets D.W. Griffith, Raoul Walsh and the other white people who wanted to make a silent film about Pancho Villa in 1914 (some of the footage was kept by Eva because taht was the last time she and her brothers were together)

Alan does in Zacatecas in June 1914

Eva goes undercover as a maid which ends with her poisoning her employer and makes it look like a suicide because she had her whipped when her husband sexually harassed her and other maids

Eva meets Diosdado in who steals a kiss from her and gets injured that same week

She falls for him while he is in the infirmary amd agrees to go to a dance with him in honor of their latest victory

They go to the dance and he gives her a seashell necklace as an apology and also thanks

Eventually Diosdado steals a silver filly which she names Macihuatli (after an aztec she demon who has the face of a horse and murders men)

Antonia comes and joins them which makes things weird because Eva has been thinking about their first kiss and is questioning her sexuality as she realizes what bisexuality is

After six months, Diosdado ends up being discovered as a cheater and Eva breaks up with him

Eva and Toña grow closer especially when Diosdado dies in a raid gone wrong and Eva discovered he named her his next of kin

Time skip to April 1915 where Gabriel dies in the battle of Torreon and due to her grief, Eva loses her second sight

She tries to cover it up but eventually gets caught when a battle is lost

Villa gives her an ultimatum, leave the army or marry him so he can claim her wealth and use it for the war (and use her family to become president) (a/n, pancho villa had over 50 wives none whom he legally married and his eldest son was Eva’s age actually)

Eva refuses, he shoots her horse tells everyone she is being discharged for causing them to lose

Eva tries to kill herself for the first time at the train station

Eva goes with a Huichol woman and her husband and joins them on a peyote pilgrimage in the desert to regain her power (and also commit suicide)

Eva faints due to severe dehydration and too much peyote, is left for dead as per her last wish

Wakes up in a hospital to Florence and Santiago arguing about what to do with her

Florence and Tiago agree to train her under the condition that she gets help from Florence’s psychologist husband, Dr. Pereira

Olivia (Izzy’s mom) and her husband bribe the government into letting Eva off the hook for her crimes and agree to keep her in Mexico City

One of the conditions placed is that Eva publicly sides with Carranza and is not allowed to publicly mourn her two brothers which fucks her up even more

Eva continues being a spy, starts abusing alcohol and at some point starts dating then president Venustiano Carranza's son, Leopoldo to get information out of him

Eva at a party meets fellow rebel and actress and first mexican female director, Mimi Derba, who make the movie La Tigeresa based on Eva

Eva also helps found Club America (which will become the soccer team, Las Aguilas del América) because people realized that drunk Eva loves throwing away her money

Stumbles on the Zimmerman Telegram in 1917, with Florence’s help she blackmails the Allied Powers into giving her asylum should she ever get caught

Francisco returns from Spain and starts secretly dating Antonia who is in love with both Riley cousins

Eva finds out ,but continues her affair with Antonia who swears it isn't serious

December 1917 comes and Leopoldo proposes to Eva who says yes to spite his father who knows she is up to something

Carranza forces his son to dump Eva, Franco and Antonia go public with their relationship and Eva hits rock bottom

Eva and Antonia break up, Eva gets drunk on Absinthe and has her third suicide attempt and a full blown mental breakdown at the new years party thrown by the president

Gets arrested for public disturbance (also insulted the president to his face) and gets foeced sobriety while under house arrest in her super haunted childhood home in Veracruz

Florence and Tiago discover that Carranza wants to have Eva murdered and make it look like a suicide so they scheme to smuggle her out

Eva and Antonia plan to run away to France,but at the last minute Antonia changes her mind and elopes with Franco who has moved to the US with his dad

Eva decides to go to small heath and gets in the giant crate

She arrives in London where the first things she does is buy an entire winter and spring wardrobe in black so she can finally mourn her brothers

Fic ends with her walking down Watery Lane and seeing Tommy watching her out of the corner of her eye

Holy fuck that was alot

so heres the thing. i recently made a friend last semester (feb-june), ive known him for a year but we've never talked till maybe march-april. it all started when he dropped a class for fourth period so he could have a spare, and me and a couple my other guy friends already have a spare, so he hangs out with us now. (lets call him sb) but these other guys ive known for a long time so i see them as my brothers ya know? but with sb idk. ever since sb hanged out with us, idk something tingles? -1

we have a class together for 2nd period but we've never talked in that class or outside that, but it changed when he hung out with us in 4th period. and we talk a lot more now, and i guess since im the only girl in the group of 4th period spare, sb would see me as one of the guys? but one 4th period day, a friend of mine(a girl this time) skipped class, and decided to hang with us. she told me after school that she i guess "shipped" me & sb together, & i told her nah nah, we just friends -2

and so i asked her what made her "ship" us. she told me that she sees how sb would look directly at me when he talks to me, and that he looks out for me in ways where i didnt see it, etc. and she told me this around late may, so ever since then, more friends of mine (girls) has skipped 4th period to hang out with the group, and 2 more of them has told me that they "ship" me and sb bcuz of how we would look together and its been getting to my head lately, and it shouldnt bcuz im not like this. -3

and the school year has ended 2 weeks ago, but i last saw him a week ago bcuz of finals and idk i got really flustered or something, but i could talk to him, and idk when im seeing him next cuz i decided to take summer school, but idk if he is. and one of the guys in the group of 4th period spare has a birthday party coming up and idk if sb is coming. i havent admitted anything to my friends about wether i like him or not, bcuz once i do, i get heartbroken and idk what i should do. -4

okay wow okay SO first of all i don’t think admitting to your friends whether or not you like him is necessarily a bad thing, bc if they’re your really close friends then it might make things a little easier and you can vent to them about it and stuff. (but obv if you’re not comfortable doing that i totally get it) so i’m not really a great person to give relationship advice since i’ve never even been close to being in a relationship but i think that you should just take it day by day. do you text with him when you’re not at school? or is it just a one-period-a-day friendship and then no talking outside of that? i think if you see him at summer school or at that birthday party then you should try to initiate something that will lead to texting and through that i think there’s potential that your relationship could gain some ground and turn into something. pls keep me updated if there are any developments

hi! I'm just getting into the boyz and was wondering if you had any recommendations on how to learn all their names? I've watched a bunch of their videos on youtube but am still having trouble identifying everyone...

hello bb!! what i would recommend is watching their vlive videos, especially the ones with all 12 of them on the thumbnail! they always introduce themselves in the very beginning and hold up their name-tags. here are the ones that are subbed:

also, if you haven’t already i recommend that you watch every episode of flower snack shop (which are all subbed)! one of many things i liked about the show is how each one of the boyz’ unique personalities were showcased evenly, and i think it would really help to associate those traits with their looks to remember them hehe (open the boyz also does a great job at defining them by their personalities/quirks)

BUT if you are short on time (each ep is like an hour long) ep.8 had a relay of all of them describing each other which is 100000% GOLDEN:

i am doing these two together because i know they’re easy to mix up (they’re TWINS lmao) so i’m going to try to sort out some of their differences

here’s kevin (named after kevin from home alone):

-his hair is always styled and his forehead always exposed-a cute n thin upper lip lol-strong brows-an english speaker-vocal/piano/artist (has golden hands, can do everything)

here’s hwall:

-hair also always styled to expose his forehead-strong brows-has a helix piercing and often wears dangling earrings-eye smile!!!!!!!!-a FASHIONISTA-contemporary dancer, rapper + vocal

THE DIFFERENCE?-i think hwall’s features are overall sharper that he looks cold and chic whereas kevin looks....... soft-what are some difference u see op??????? my mind can’t function rn hagijdsk

3. SANGYEON (nov 4 1996)

-a MAN........... thicc thighs!!!!!!!!-has a dimple on his right cheek and he is ALWAYS smiling-when he smiles his entire face lights up-leader, vocal

4. JACOB (may 30 1997)

-not that i’m biased or anything but he is a full on angel-his eyelid fold is pretty prominent-speaks english (and his voice is very very soft)-vocal, guitar

5. YOUNGHOON (august 8 1997)

-he said it himself that he has a big head, i think his face shape is long (n extremely handsome)-the tallest i believe (so you will be able to point him out in group pics)-he was in ioi’s whatta man mv, john park’s dnd-vocal, he has a very strong and classic voice

6. HYUNJAE (sept 13 1997)

-he has twinkling eyes and his lips always look so soft and pretty-very laughable and weird but shy in front of fans-he kind of seems scary but he is literally the complete 360 of that (unless he’s acting re: prank on juyeon in flower snack ep2)-vocal, dance

7. JUYEON (jan 15 1998)

-plays basketball (so does jacob but i forgot to put it up there oops)-he’s so PURE, innocent and kind of naive -his jawline is pretty square like his chin is not a V/sharp-a sharp n beautiful nose-dance, vocal

8. NEW (april 26 1998)

-has very pouty lips, when he poses he looks like an actual model-his double eyelid is very thick (idk how else to describe it pls forgive me)-soft voice (the easiest to tell apart imo) and both his talking & singing voice are so wonderful to listen to-i used to think he was cold/scary-ish but he is soft and talks/laughs a lot-vocal

9. Q (nov 5 1998)

-easiest way to remember him is Q => KYU => KYUTE => CUTE (he’s the QTEST human on earth i swear!!!!!)-long neck-deep dimples-a tiny figure (his waist is so small!!!!)-dance, center (in their predebut dance routines, he is ALWAYS in the middle)

10. JUHAKNYEON (mar 9, 1999)

-to describe in one two words: adorable and lovable (couldnt choose one)-his eye shape is so pretty, kind of like a cat-eye-jeju boy, has a pig farm, loves to eat-his smile is contagious!!!!!! -dance, vocal, face

11. SUNWOO (april 12 2000)

-rap king!!!!! (was on high school rapper)-his lips are very plump-officially has the biggest head in the boyz i love him-his hair style is always the same (down, bangs)-rap, vocal

12. ERIC (december 22 2000)

-cool and cute maknae-i think he has a little bit of a lisp :’)-tall nose!!!-speaks english, very outgoing and not shy-i think he looks like nct dream’s jeno-rap, dance

01) Can you give us a general sense of your style and techniques as an artist? And who are your influences? And could you please incorporate one of those "my work is like _________ meets ___________" comparisons that critics love so much?

My style typically consists of whatever mood/feeling I'm in or whatever sorts of things I've got to work with around me. I guess there are some consistencies as I keep coming back to found objects, collage, scribbles and junk. Range of like-minded artistic kin stretch from my grandma to folk art to Henryk Tomaszewski to Seymour Chwast to Ray Johnson to Basquiat to Saul Steinberg and even Pee-wee Herman, Dr. Demento and Jim Henson. Daily influences include a mixture of intuition, conversation, observation, humor, stains on teeth, animals, anxiety, faith, layered language, worlds interacting with worlds, things that look better weathered, markings on pavement and beyond blah-blah. I watch a lot of movies too. It's hard answering the "comparisons" question as I'm not always on the outside looking in. What do you think? I've had some people compare the found object work to Robert Rauschenberg. That's a pretty tall order though. I never really think about that stuff. Steve Brisendine of Art KC 365 kindly put me at, "He isn’t just in touch with his inner child; the two of them must hang out on a regular basis, playing with scissors, magazines and construction paper…Some of his creations…are meticulously assembled. Others look as though they were fueled by half a box of frosted cereal, washed down with a two-liter bottle of something sugary and caffeinated." Can I just say, "My work is like the Garbage Pail Kids meets Ren & Stimpy."? 02) Your newest First Friday exhibition in KC is titled "Mouth Breathing at the Wick to the Apocalypse." What is the show about and is it going to convince us (or convince us even further) that the world is ending in 2012? I was actually quite anxious titling it this, but I kept coming back to it/it kept coming back to me. And it extends further than just the 2012 stuff. There's a lot to chew on and this title just works for the times and within my own body of work. It's definitely a conversation stimulator. The following is what I wrote for Chad Thomas Johnston's web site (@Saint_Upid). Actually, this one was slightly revised for my own blog: Every living thing has a date of expiration. When that date comes, I believe, is in much bigger hands…as well as with a personal healthy dose of daily walk and decision. And Lord knows we’re all trying to put the wicks out to something we have to face, large or small, Earth or individual. We love to control, alter, even bring about more things in the process. Let’s all truly breathe and make space instead of picking up the pace and filling up out pants. Put the hand to the mouth…you’re still breathing. All of this also goes towards those who stand around waiting for things to happen on an individual level. I don’t know, life is about balance. I struggle every day. People are so focused on 2012 predictions and doom ‘n’ gloom when life is still in the now. For those wishing to sidestep the recent holiday cheer, there was even an “Armageddon Week” during Christmas on the History Channel. Yeah, fascinating, but let’s not over do it. If this is our last official year, then let’s just take one long holiday! Who knows? I don’t think any man truly does. But, when that day comes we will be there with the cameras rolling, breathing heavily, awaiting to capture and recapture a thing that we’ll either be too dead to see or won’t have the grid or battery power to reconnect with. Let’s find the art and beauty in the rubble that is the now. This all sort of fits into my exhibition title “Mouth Breathing at the Wick to the Apocalypse.” It also just speaks for the body of work I’ve been creating the past year, perhaps many years. I don’t aim to alarm or hoover heavily. If anything, the spirit in the art is quite jovial and optimistic. Per usual, I want people to have a soak and smile. Some of the ideas initialized in a 2002 sketchbook I did as a janitor as well as writings over the past half decade. In the end, it just has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? 03) We've been examining some of your pieces over at the gallery on @Saint_Upid's site and Chip, quite frankly, doesn't "get" some of it. Can you explain that Fox Food 2/ bunny piece to him? I've been saving up each week's grocery store ad papers. I like to cut out the meat and various food chunks and make animals. I've got a fox and a rabbit. The fox is titled "Fox Food No. 1" and the rabbit is "Fox Food No. 2." So, eventually the rabbit gets eaten by the fox. Get it? 04) What other projects do you have in store for what may well be the last year of humanity's existence as we know it? I made a life-size bison (on paper) outlined in grocery store meat ads and splattered with coffee. He'll be at the exhibition hiding in a corner. I've also got a snake on a board made out of chewed up Dubble Bubble. My jaw is kind of sore this week. I think that's it for the gum art. There will be a few others in the show too. Other projects in the coming months? Well, I'd like to knock out another music video this year. I'm trying my hand and patience at stop motion animation. Emphasis on "trying." I'd like to have a 2nd exhibition at 1819 Central this year. I'm thinking of doing a photography show, but I'll just see what art I make between now and the fall. Ultimately, I'd like to make some money on this art thing. We'll see. I'll also have a piece in the forthcoming Middle of the Map Fest art show in April. I still need to make that one. 05) We know you are a huge movie buff, since we talk movies with you on Twitter quite often. What's the best off-the-beaten-path film that you've watched recently that our readers should see and then talk pompously about at the Pig while pretending like they discovered it themselves? Uh, Transformers? I watched that and Take Shelter recently. Some of my most well-lit memories of Lawrence concerts would be the "game day" excitement building up to and then wedging in-between band equipment in the Elevator Division van. I was their live-in art director and it was a treat to tag along. It was an adventure on the road as well as lurking in the shadows of the Bottleneck, Replay and Granada. The sleep on the ride home was the best I'd get. Those trips would destroy me now. My most memorable concert moment in Lawrence would have to be meeting Elliott Smith in the Granada back alley after his show. We shook hands and both said, "Thanks." at the same time. Also in the alley were The Flaming Lips who happened to be in town, and previously on stage performing "Don't Fear the Reaper" with Elliott. What a way to end it. I was sad the day Elliott smith passed away and still am. Oh yeah...before that show my eyes hadn't quite adjusted to the indoor lighting and I waved an excited hi to some old friends upon entering the venue and immediately tripped over two people sitting on the floor. Another high ranking concert moment was seeing The Sleepy Jackson open for The Polyphonic Spree at Liberty Hall. I had no idea who they were and they completely blew me away. 08) How familiar are you with the Lawrence art scene these days? Any favorite artists working in our fair city? I'm a tad familiar with the Lawrence art scene. Notably, those running/making art at Wonder Fair. Great guys/great artists. I need to get out to Lawrence more often these days. I enjoy your fine city. Though, being a Missouri boy you may have to check my MU Tiger fan badge at the Lawrence border. 09) We've noticed that KC has a strange new event called Hot Tub dialogues, in which the audiences pays to watch artists sit around talking about art in a hot tub. Would you don your bathing suit to participate in such shenanigans? This is new news to me! And weird at that! Especially the audience pay part. I don't think I'd be up for such an event unless said hot tub was a time machine. I'm also a bit of a nevernude and still barely sticking my toes in the Kansas City art pool as it is! 10) There's a very controversial public art event currently generating a lot of controversy in Lawrence. Lice chickens will be exhibited for a month in spots around town, letting people "get to know them, the they'll be killed and cooked for a community project at Percolator art gallery? What are your initial thoughts on this project? Like the hot tub talk, this is weird and new local art news to me! I really am out of the loop/pool. Growing up on a farm in rural Missouri, I knew many of my animals before they were butchered. I guess, like anything, it's a matter of public opinion. If you're not comfortable with it, then don't attend/support? Is this commentary on the whole local/get to know your food and where it comes from thing? Very interesting. I don't quite understand the need to make it into a public art event. Seems like something destined ftp stir the poultry pot, so to speak! I guess I need to know more about this. Thanks! -djg

Year End 2017 Wrap Up

I’m gonna be straight up honest with y’all, I almost didn’t do one of these for this year because this year has sucked horrifically and I just didn’t see a fucking point. But I’ve done one every year for like, at least four years now, and it’s tradition, and I for some reason feel it’s important, so by damn I’m gonna look back on my text posts from the year and my memories of what I was doing and see what happened this past year.

Jan 2017 - Was beginning my last ever semester of undergrad this month. At this point I still thought I’d be going to grad school hahahah so much can fucking change in a few months. Started my AC sideblog so that’s cool. and even this far back (: we still see me struggling with debilitating pain (: which has been a trend ever since I’ve been doing these year summaries I think, is seeing how bad my pain was throughout the year. jfc. looks like I was struggling with some depression symptoms here too, go fucking figure. I had an interview for grad school too and we know how badly that went…

Feb - Here’s where I decided I thought i might be on the autism spectrum. I now think I was wrong on that self dx, but you know, journeys of self discovery are important and all that. but here’s lots more pain and tired and “brain not working” which was lots of depression symptoms I believe, sigh I let that get bad for a while there. Oh and then I learned I didn’t get into that grad school I got the interview for. so yeah that was Feb in a nutshell l o l

Mar - Breath of the Wild came out this month and dominated my life for a month or two, I still love this game very much and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart, ti’s just so good and sweet and lovely. I still haven’t even really beat it LOL and I need to but. still. that’s never been the most important part of Zelda games to me. OOO THO I had beginnings of existential crises this month!! cause I was getting so bogged down in my thesis research and didn’t know if research was what I wanted to do forever and ever anymore!! isn’t that fun!! (it was not fun). but the rest of this month seems like. a whole lot of bitching about pain. paaaain pain pain. like holy jesus bitching about pain. maybe if I printed off all these posts and gave them to my doctors they’d believe I have a problem LOL.

Apr - So I had shitty dr appointments that further hurt my chronic illness identity, and then other Ongoing Identity Crisis because of not getting into grad school and wanting a job in which I could help people. this is the month I in earnest started applying for jobs; research tech jobs mostly, but some adjacent jobs too (don’t remember what exactly). I didn’t branch out very far at this point though cause I was still McFuckin Terrified. and then I realized that I didn’t want to leave hundreds of miles away for work, cause as much as a lot of the culture of southern Appalachia can suck sometimes, it’s still home, /my/ home, and I don’t want to abandon it. I know I freaked out a lot about getting my thesis done and presented this month too bc I was soooOooOOoO unmotivated to do that shit LOL like. whew. did not want to, did not care any longer, but still had to do it.

May - GOT MY FIRST EVER TICKET LOL THAT FUCKING SUCKED SO BAD. sigh. otherwise I was mostly vague as SHIT with stuff this month. I know I graduated, didn’t walk though cause I could not give less of a fuck at that point. I applied for every job I could find that I remotely qualified for that was close enough I was willing to move to. I even had a Skype interview for one, either this month or in April. it fell through, of course.

Jun - One of my very first June posts is “who the fuck am I/how do I become who I want to be” LOL so that identity crisis was still rip roaring obvs. then that time when I tried to explain disability stigma to one of my previous (cishet white male) bosses. Had another phone interview this month for another job I didn’t get lmfao. Pretty sure this is the month where I started applying for mental health case management jobs, like a bunch of them, at different locations all in the company I’m currently in.

July - So I think it must have been around the beginning of this month that I had my first in person interview? I bombed that one hardcore. didn’t stop another location from interviewing me though, and I got a second interview with them, which I then proceeded to fail because I had no prior experience. It was brutal LOL. and the new person started at my old job, and I had to start training her, and that whole situation was just awkward and weird and Undesirable. to the maaax. it was this whole ordeal too where they’d scheduled my last day to be the 28th of July, so that’s what I was planning on and like, focused on… but then it turned out my coworker got national guard orders and had to be gone two months, so instead of having newbie there by herself, they were like (to me) “hey… just wanna… chill for two months longer or until you find a job…” which was admittedly hella cool of them.

Aug - Lots of blogging about pain, lots of general vagueblogging. I did announce publicly on tumblr that I’m intending to convert to Judaism so that’s still cool, and still a thing, even if life has been repeatedly crotch-punching me so I haven’t been able to make much actual progress on it. but then, I had the interview for my current job. that i somehow passed with flying colors. And my asthma started getting worse, and I started getting soooooo so done with my old IT job, but I /got my new job/. ALSO THIS MONTH WE GOT RADS MY SWEET NEW BABY so now our family is made of me, my husband, and two kitties.

Sept - September. Oh, September. started out so innocently, with starting orientation for my new job. I was all starry eyed and hopeful for the new job because I thought that it was a perfect home for me. then I got there. started doing things. realized that I was terrified of trying to meet my new coworkers and learn their dynamics. realized I was terrified of trying to meet my new supervisors/superiors and learn their expectations. realized that in general I just didn’t know the culture of the place at all and that fucking /terrified/ me. and then the job itself, the job itself was something I’d never done before, had no experience in /whatsoever/, had no FUCKING clue what I was doing. I was a fish out of water with no bloody idea where I was going, and hoooboy. I almost quit by the end of September, I truly did.

Oct - tw: miscarriage at end of month I started therapy for my anxiety!!! yay!!!! I had a lot of adapting to work in this time too that I didn’t really talk much about on tumblr too I think. I mean I was learning a lot, I was meeting more of my clients, some even time. I was still terrified, especially of my other coworkers because I didn’t know them or understand them, but even at that, I was learning. [Stop reading if you need to avoid tw miscarriage and skip to Nov.] The other horrifically sucky thing to happen in Oct happened not to me, but to my sister. She’d found out a few months perviously that she was pregnant, at 37 years old. they’d just recently gotten all the genetic testings back and found out they were going to have a girl. unfortunately though, the baby stopped developing at 15w. my sister discovered this at what would’ve been 17w. she had to have surgery to remove the baby. she’s still recovering from this trauma, she’s heartbroken and just. very upset. I’m still upset for her too.

Nov - Last month I was doing ok I think. I was doing pretty well at work, kinda just coasting along but mostly getting the hang of things. Therapy had been helping I think; it’d been teaching me somethings, mostly only small differences but I think having someone to talk to had been helping frankly. Work was going well, and we’d decided to start looking for a house to /buy/ (realtor.com) but hadn’t hired a realtor yet. probably for the best. as it turns out now…

Dec - Fuck you, December. the good news is, my new job’s health insurance kicked in Dec. 1st. which is great, considering I got admitted to the hospital Dec. 7th, a Thursday. the Monday prior I’d tried to pop a zit, no big deal. WRONG. it got infected. not just any old infection, though, oh no. FUCKING MRSA. so I got cellulitis in my face, my whole right side of my face swelled up three times the normal, I got MRSA/pneumonia in my lungs, I had MRSA in my bloodstream. when I came in the ER I had very low blood pressure and heartrate of 130, so I was septic. like. shit was going down. I stayed in the hospital 6 days, and they released me with a PICC line and having to do vancomycin (really strong IV antibiotic) twice a day via the line. I went back to work too early for two days, but saw my PCP on the third day and he put me off that again. /Then the chest pain started/. I assumed it was a side effect of the vancomycin, since back and chest spasms/pain are a listed side effect, but NO, apparently NOT, at least not to this DEGREE. The home health pharmacy, who I called to ask about it, called the on-call at my PCP, who advised to go to the ER to get checked for a “pulmonary embolism.” Doesn’t sound scary at aaaaaaaaaall. Get in ER, go through the whole terrifying ordeal, CT scan, x-ray, shit and shebang - what do you fucking know. I have a septic embolism. very rare. much wow. fuck me. so here I am, once again, in a fucking hospital room, tied up to IV antibiotics, at the end of Christmas day. At least they’re keeping the pain meds going now. Oh at one point my kidney function tried to drop, then it turned out I had a pleural effusion so they drained 550cc (half a liter) of fluid off my lungs (painful as fuck let me tell you). Ended up spedning 5 days total in the hospital, home now, but still in like. the same amount of pain as when I went in. Having to fight with so many things to get medicines sorted and shit. while feeling like shit too. everything is awesome.

So that’s it. 2017. That doesn’t even get into the way 2017 has sucked on a global, non-personal scale, that’s just how it’s sucked on a mostly-immediately-personal scale, and I’ve even left out some of the immediately personal ones I think. and that’s just the shit I remember LOL jesus christ. I really need to do an effigy burning of this year.

this is gonna be long, so skip it if you want\

Undertale has had a huge impact in my life. Back in April 2016 I was facing depression and stuff happened. I ended up staying a month in the house due to everyone’s worries. I already knew about undertale and played it, and my parents thought that was the reason since they read an article containing the word suicide about undertale. So they banned it from the house.

And I completely disobeyed them. It was one of the greatest decisions in my life.

I already knew quite a bit about the game when I first learnt about it from a friend back in December. A No-Mercy route since that’s how traditional RPGs were to me, I was even LV 9 when I killed Undyne.

Later I watched some let-plays with my brother and some comic dubs, including Epictale, Underverse 0.0, askerrorsans and some small comic shorts on YouTube. That’s when I really learnt about it. After 3 years of abandoning drawing, I tried to recreate the sprites of several characters as drawings (i’ll post them later). I improved a lot since then. UT’s first anniversary passed and I really didn’t do much for it. Eventually in December when I had legendary advanced knowledge of AUs, I created my blog on December 6 to read Aftertale. Eventually I started using a mouse to draw on MS Paint. In Feb 25th, on of my first AU drawings I posted on tumblr received over a hundred notes after Xedramon rebbloged it on her fatal-error blog. https://fatal-error-blog.tumblr.com/post/157713658060/asrielisdeadandfloweyisabitch-fatalerror I used to be exited to even get a note on one of my post.

Eventually after several months, I now have 375 followers, several which are friends I’ve made in this platform. I’ve laughed and had so much fun with all of you guys, and it’s a huge honor to have you follow this blog.

A few months ago, I created @lavnderp-sans , a shitpost-type askblog for lavender-sans. I haven’t been very active there lately, but i really want to celebrate for 100 followers there.

Anyway, I just want to thank Mr Toby Fox for creating such a great game. It lifted me out of depression and I’ve made so many friends from this game. Thank you, Toby, for this masterpiece you’ve created.

It may or may not be late, but I will celebrate the anniversary of UNDERTALE and all these followers.

Todd Michaels: From England. Oh, all right. We’ve got another English (lad) here too, one of our djs.His name is Adam [Turner]. All right, so what are you working on Curbi? What is 2019 looking like?

Curbi: I’ve got a lot of new music coming out. I’ve got one coming out on the 1st of April called Redeem, it’s more of a deeper sound for me. Very groovy, working on a lot of groovy stuff at the moment. I’ve got a lot of tracks which I’ve been working on the past like two or three years and hopefully going to release this year. A lot of shows, hopefully more shows in the U.S., I’m really hoping for that because I do a lot in Europe and a lot in Asia at the moment.

While a majority of European DJs list Japan as their ultimate favorite country to visit and play in, Curbi was one of a few, if not the only DJ we interviewed that ranked America as his favorite place to visit. “Oh, man, I love America. It’s Amazing!” he says. He credits the similarities between the two countries for this “it kind of feels familiar, because I’m from England, it’s like the same, but it’s not.” Todd Michaels and Curbi engage in a lengthy discussion about the best place to move to in The United States (sorry L.A., New York, Miami, and everywhere that isn’t Chicago).

Moving to America is definitely a smart move for any aspiring musician, the U.S. is still largely considered to be the epicenter of music media. But life in America has its unique challenges, especially when it comes to fast-food.

Todd Michaels: What are some guilty pleasures that you’ve got in the sense of food when you’re traveling? What’s your go-to?

Curbi: Oh man. Yeah, let’s not even go into this […] this is really bad cause like when I’m home, I try to be as healthy as I can and last year I spent two months going every day to the gym, being really healthy and then I went to America. I went on tour in America for like two weeks and yeah. So, basically just McDonald’s, all the fast-food restaurants when I’m touring. Like, when I’m really hungry and hungover after a show day. I go straight to a fast-food restaurant.

Todd Michaels: What’s here? What food or fast-food that we have here that you don’t have in London that you really enjoy?

Curbi: I’m not sure about Miami, but in L.A., In-N-Out (Burgers) obviously, that was amazing!

Todd Michaels: Here’s a question for you, when I travel I tend to skip the places I can get here at home. However, Mcdonald’s is the one place I don’t mind going (in other countries). It’s a little healthier, you guys have real potatoes over there.

Curbi: Yeah? You think so?

Todd Michaels: That’s what they say. [laughs]

Curbi: I don’t believe that.

Todd Michaels: The look that you just gave me was like ‘Wow! That’s not true.’

Curbi: But what I’ve noticed is that the menu’s different wherever you go. I had McDonald’s in South Korea and the menu was completely different.

Todd Michaels: We actually have an international in Chicago. There’s an international Mcdonald’s because of that, there’s a university actually that they have those kinds of things.

After a lengthy discussion about McDonald’s international menu, the focus then turns to one of America’s favorite Canadian imports: Justin Bieber.

Todd Michaels: What would be a guilty pleasure where (your friends) are hanging out with you and all of a sudden you turn this tune on and you’re just like, ‘Yeah! This is my jam!’ And they’re like What?

Curbi: Oh yeah! I don’t know. I like everything to be honest. Justin Bieber is a legend mate. I’m feeling a little bit guilty.

Todd Michaels: He’s taking some time off.

Curbi: Oh really?

Todd Michaels: Yeah, something mental, he’s taking some time off. But yeah, he’s my guilty (pleasure), he’s usually my go-to. As much as I can diss on the guy, I kind of like his music.

Curbi: He’s bloody good mate!’

Todd Michaels: Especially when he worked with Skrillex and he was doing all that other Jack U stuff.

Curbi: That changed (everything) completely! I didn’t really like his stuff before, I mean ‘baby’ is a Banger but yeah man. His stuff is great now.

Todd Michaels: What about, who would you want to work with? Who would be like a dream collaboration?

Curbi: Skrillex, Post Malone. Actually, I think all of the U.S. (EDM) Guys. I would also like to work with some Dubstep guys and like make a fusion between my sound and Dubstep. So like, I don’t know if you know Space Laces? He worked with Excision, GTA, love those guys. Yeah, but Post Malone, if we’re going outside of EDM and like dance music- I’d be Post Malone.

Todd Michaels: What would that collaboration hopefully be called? What would be a nice little title that you would give it?

Curbi: I would just keep it simple. Something like ‘Swag,’ because Post Malone says ‘swag’ a lot.

Todd Michaels: That would be good- Swag featuring Curbi. That would be nice. What’s a song out there that you think should not exist anymore?

Curbi: [Laughs] Darude ‘Sandstorm’. That should be gone now, it’s overplayed.

Todd Michaels: Why?!

Curbi: I mean it is a Banger! But it’s too much. When it comes on it’s just like ‘Ugh! Again? Really?

Todd Michaels: I mean, I’m not going to agree to disagree. I have history with that song! Like, it brings back memories.

Curbi: I wasn’t even alive, probably when it was released. I can’t even remember when it was released.

Todd Michaels: It was like mid 2000s. Maybe early 2000s.

Curbi: Ok it was then, but I was like three or something.

Todd Michaels: Yeah, you were just a little like (kid) …not doing that.

The 11th makes me think of you.

Tomorrow is the 11th. Every time I think of 11, I think of the day you fell in love with me. April 11th, 2016. Which seems really early. But I started to fall for you the first time we ever talked.

But when the conversation ended, I told myself this can’t happen, it won’t happen, that you’ll probably forget about me, that you probably already have, that a guy like you- confident, attractive, smooth talking, looking fresh out of a page in a magazine, male model level hotness- wouldn’t be interested in me.

“He just wants nudes” a voice in my head said. Because all of the insanely good looking guys on kik usually fall into one (or more) of four catagorys:

1. They’re a catfish

2. They’re gay

3. They’re super egotistical assholes

4. They just want nudes

And I swear I was convinced that you forgot my existence after we finished talking.

Skipping ahead

I’m not the kind of girl that breaks hearts.

I don’t know if you’ve realized that yet or if I have to keep telling you stories of how every guy I’ve loved has left me, in a very tragic way. (I can also be dramatic. But mostly I romanticize the shit out of relationships)

I just, I think of you a lot. I just love you a lot. I think I about you all the time. I image your arms around me and I feel like bursting into tears. It’s been happening a lot lately, now that I feel like I have to slip away in order for you to notice me, not just when you’re angry. When you’re angry you really notice me.

But I don’t try to do things to piss you off or hurt you to get you to talk to me. I don’t want to do that. I want you to want to talk to me but I feel like you’re okay with letting me slip away. I can’t go three days without talking to you. Though you act like it’s normal. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, going days without texting someone. I mean, it’s easier when you know them in real life I guess. But I still couldn’t do it.

I feel like I miss you and need you all the time. When I wake up, when I’m falling asleep, in the middle of the day, every second, right now. And I just think about your arms around me, holding me tightly, and I cry.

I miss you. I really miss you.

I wish you could see, thats all I want, to be with you. I’ve never wanted to hurt you the way I have in the past. I wish it wasn’t so hard. I wish you wanted to talk to me as badly as I want to talk to you. I don’t even know if you’ll ever see this. But I hope you do.

But I’ll be thinking about you. Laying on my bear, pretending it’s you. But at the same time, I’ve been trying to stop doing that. It makes me heart ache, when I don’t give in. I try not to, because love really is like a drug. I’ve been trying to quit my addiction. But I still keep checking kik, tp, musically messages- All the time.

I don’t want to let you go

But maybe you’ll end up letting me go. And I’ll just remain here, with a broken heart, still writing you these messages that you’ll probably not even read, bitter and broken and mourning. Like an old man who’s wife has died, sitting in brokenness and emptiness, trying to figure out how to go on.

Maybe you’ll just find someone better, and leave me for her like all the others have.

I hope you at least give me a warning, I’d appreciate that.

But you’ll go on. I won’t.

I’ll still be here. Marking each day. Another X through my calendar. Another day lived without you

If I’m even strong enough, to live through it this time. Or maybe the depths of the ocean being my pain will swallow me whole, keep me under, and drown me.

(I'm really not great with breakups.. but maybe if I stop looking it like a tragedy and rather that it's part of life and there's life after a breakup, maybe I'll be able to handle it better.. it's not the end of the world because someone leaves me, but it feels that way to me. -2021 feb)

uhhh hi i haven’t written on here since last year but i’m back.

the dude i referred to in my previous posts broke my heart. i’m okay now though, no more anger, sadness, or nostalgia.

that’s not what i’m about to talk about now though. i was watching 2019 BTS Festa video, the Bangtan Attic one. I remember watching it when it came out and the advice they said in the video actually helped me deal with the issues that ensued after the break up.

i was actually pretty miserable from july last year and that kind of dragged on until early april of this year.

i’m currently self-isolating right now, i haven’t done my schoolwork or whatever. i’ve been reading a lot to keep my mind of things. when i didn’t read, i’d watch youtube videos or fangirl over BTS on social media.

honestly, i’d love to talk about what happened the past few months, but i can say truthfully that i’ve lowkey let go of the things that made me miserable? i have moments when i just want to cry though. that’s actually really better than having to accumulate all my emotions and just going off in one setting (feb 29, payag payag. i c u). quarantine has actually given me a lot of time to just reflect on the things that happened the past few months. thinking about them now, it still makes me emotional, but not as much as it used to when i’d get into a panic attack or i start drowning in self-loathing. as i’m typing this though, i feel a little bit choked up but that’s what happens when i drink caffeine at 2 am so i can’t fully blame my emotions.

i have no one to talk to here in my dorm. i live alone for the first time in my life because of issues with roommates in the past. since moving here, it did feel a little bit lonely. i don’t have anyone to talk to since joy is also pretty busy but i don’t hold that against her because we live in different time zones now and i respect her priorities. not that i think she would never prioritize me, she’s actually one call away, i just respect her decision to become more independent in a new environment. anyway, with the things that happened in the past few months, i’ve decided to keep things to myself (not anymore though, i’ve chosen to talk about the things that bothered me to other people. shoutout to nina c). i always used twitter as an outlet because the idea of having to condense your thoughts into a tweet has always been enough. people didn’t think the same though, so i’m off of my personal twitter account and migrated back to my stan account. i think it’s better because i’m less involved in the drama that goes on with irl people. i’d say that it was a breather to just put all my energy into something else, which is fangirling.

sometimes i slip into sadness but its rare. i know i’m probably speaking too soon but i guess i feel like i have to bring it up so i can acknowledge how its actually happening. i’m trying to get back into my hobbies and leisurely activities but that, of course, is going to be hard.

i came back onto tumblr because my dumbass started thinking about how i know when i can finally break out from my social anxiety. before i get into that though, i think i have to talk about how i finally acknowledged how i have social anxiety.

i’ve always known i was indifferent towards people. indifferent in a way that i felt like i was always an outcast or that people didn’t want me to be part of something. then, idk i just arrived to the point that it doesn’t really matter who doesn’t want me in a certain situation because i know there are people who do want me to be part of something. thoughts like that give me hope, you know? i’ve started thinking about not looking into situations too much and constantly asking myself “does she not like me?”, “did i say something to offend her?” etc.

the self reflection i experienced a few weeks ago did help me sort my thoughts out. i started thinking about who i was before i became miserable last year. i knew i always had a positive outlook in life, and i was quite an optimist. those were what kept me sane and it really helped with anxiety. when i came to these thoughts during self-reflection, i realized i’ve been asking myself the wrong questions. “why would it matter if the person likes me or not?”, “should i adjust my tone and my way of speaking to avoid offending others?”, etc. i think shifting into this mindset is better. as i type this out, i think to myself, “am i doing this for the sake of others?”, “am i being a people-pleaser by considering these thoughts?”. the answer is no. before i was subjected into the unbearable pain and misery a few months ago, i did have this mindset. i was always so thoughtful of others, and that itself made me happy. i knew that if i was kind to others, if i was positive around people, that would make me happy too. of course there are some setbacks into this mindset such as when people really be testing you and your patience, but that’s the thing to it- you’re supposed to be patient. thinking about these things again, it reminds me how much i changed after what happened the past few months. back then, i wouldn’t have had to remind myself these things or submit to self-reflection because it came naturally to me. i was the one who never thought about reciprocation. i didn’t count on other people’s well-doings towards me. i never thought “i’d do this for them, why wouldn’t they do it for me too?”. i thought about this a lot and have cried over it. again, i did some self-reflection. i messaged the people i wanted to message, the people who have made me feel important and helped push me into self-reflection. i honestly feel like i lost myself these past few months and i don’t think it’s something i want. i message my friends who have listened to me ramble about the things that bothered me, my friends who checked up on me during ecq, my friend who actually bothered to reply and exhibited the same energy when i messaged her. i also apologized to one of my blockmates for my behavior the past few months, i didn’t get a reply. a tugging feeling claws inside me but for the most part, i really don’t care.

when i realized that i have finally gained a solid grasp to who i was, who i want to be, and who i want to continue to be, i sought comfort through words. that’s when i decided to rewatch 2019 bts festa out of nowhere.

the members actually said a lot of things that are great for the mind. i’m gonna list a few:

- i am my own hope

- it happens

- i’m happy seeing the members happy

i’m sure there were a lot of things i skipped over. they also talked about having to keep up with a persona and that honestly dug in deep too because i know i feel like i always have to act a certain way when im with different people. of course it wouldn’t be easy to shift into a more natural version of myself when im around all these kinds of people but i’ll be sure to work on it more.

anyways, these words helped remind me of who i was and who i want to be. i want to be my own hope, because what and who else will you have to hold onto besides yourself? before talking about this, j-hope mentioned that he started embodying the BTS version of him. j-hope always said “i’m your hope” and he said that he believes there is no distinction between j-hope and jung ho seok because when he kept being hopeful as j-hope, it kind of just rubbed off on jung hoseok too. it’s like, the more hopeful you are, the firmer your grasp onto hope is. this is why i’ve decided to hold onto my own sense of hope: hoping that i do get a better future, hoping that i do grow into a better version of me. suga also discussed the phrase “it happens” and honestly i’ve been trying to live through that phrase. i remember always asking myself the past few months “why did it have to happen to me?”, “do i deserve everything im going through right now?”. when i got into self-reflection, the first statement i remembered was “it happens”, and that’s true. we have no telling of why or how things happened, but what we do know is that it did. there’s no other way we can deal with it other than having to move on and let go from what’s holding us back (e.g. me holding myself back from growing out of my developed pessimism), because again, it happens. taehyung was the one who said “i’m happy seeing the members happy” and i feel like that also contributed a lot to help me find myself again. it reminded me of who i was and how i used to be so hopeful, being an advocate for others and of course being an optimist. i’ve felt cheated by life the past few months that i grew selfish. i have every right for selfishness but there were moments when i exuded that in the wrong situations. of course, i have every right to be selfish after what my ex had done to me before, during and after our relationship. however, i shouldn’t be selfish all the time. there are times when this world requires selflessness and i really want to embody that again, because selfishness honestly isn’t cute.

despite adopting an optimistic mindset, i think there should be an emphasis on being realistic too. i’d like to call this as optimistic realism but i honestly don’t know what im talking about hahaha. i can describe this as holding onto a more positive attitude towards things, situations, and people, but also keeping things realistic. you could treat people without having to consider the thought of them having underlying anger or hatred towards you (this is being optimistic in my opinion), but also approach them without expectations (realistic). expectations might be the biggest heartbreak of them all in my opinion, however, we really cannot blame ourselves for holding onto them. we have every right to expect from people who we really should be expecting from. (like how i expected my ex to straighten the fuck up but im a clown). the expectations im referring to though are the ones that are too much from people who can possibly be just temporary in our lives. like i’ve mentioned earlier, when you expect people to reciprocate the same energy you give them. this is an unfair expectation because not all people are like you. you know how people say we all have different love languages? i think it goes that way. i was bummed a few friends didn’t message me a happy birthday, but whenever i mentioned them in things or whenever i said something alarming on social media, they always replied or they always checked up on me. with the person i’m trying to be, i want to be able to acknowledge these things too because the small things matter.

i think im rambling at this point, but i hope i got my thoughts across.

i’ve actually put off from writing because i became too critical of how i wrote. right now, even though im just typing out my thoughts, i initially wanted to sort them out and organize the ideas and things i had to say. then i reminded myself that if i continue restricting myself into such trivial matters, i wouldn’t be able to grow and find out who i really am, what makes me comfortable. i find out writing without organization is freeing honestly, just like what i’m doing right now.

i’m gonna write a new post on social anxiety in a few minutes because i have a lot to say lol. sorry if the ideas i presented in this text post are too unorganized. figure it out with reading comprehension mwa
