ڈاکٹر عافیہ بہت ظلم سہہ چکی
امریکی جیل میں 13 سال سے قید پاکستان کی بیٹی ڈاکٹر عافیہ صدیقی سے ان کی بہن ڈاکٹر فوزیہ صدیقی کی ڈھائی گھنٹے طویل ملاقات ہوئی۔ خبروں کے مطابق یہ ملاقات ٹیکساس کے شہر فورورتھ کی جیل ایف ایم سی کارس ول میں ہوئی۔ ڈاکٹر عافیہ سے ان کے خاندان کے کسی فرد کی یہ پہلی ملاقات تھی۔ ڈاکٹر عافیہ کو لاپتہ ہوے 24 سال اور امریکی قید میں 13 سال کا طویل عرصہ گزر چکا لیکن اس کے باوجود دونوں بہنوں کو نہ ہاتھ ملانے دیا گیا نہ وہ گلے مل سکیں۔ جماعت اسلامی کے رہنما سینیٹر مشتاق احمد، جو ڈاکٹر فوزیہ صدیقی کے ہمراہ امریکہ گئے ہوئے ہیں، نے اپنے ٹوئٹ میں لکھا کہ دونوں بہنوں کی یہ ملاقات جیل کے ایک کمرے میں ہوئی لیکن دونوں کے درمیان موٹا شیشہ لگا تھا جس سے وہ ایک دوسرے کو دیکھ اور سن تو سکتی تھیں لیکن چھو نہیں سکتی تھیں۔ سفید اسکارف اور خاکی جیل ڈرس میں ملبوس عافیہ صدیقی سے اُن کی بہن کی ڈھائی گھنٹے کی اس ملاقات میں پہلے ایک گھنٹہ ڈاکٹر عافیہ صدیقی نے روز روز اپنے اوپر گزرنے والی اذیت کی تفصیلات بتائیں۔ ڈاکٹر عافیہ اپنی بہن سے اپنی ماں (جو اُن کی قید کے دوران وفات پاچکی ہیں) اور اپنے بچوں کے بارے میں پوچھتی رہیں اور کہا کہ ماں اور بچے اُنہیں ہر وقت یاد آتے ہیں۔
ڈاکٹر عافیہ کو اپنی ماں کی وفات کا علم نہیں ہے۔ امریکہ کی قید میں پاکستان کی اس بیٹی کے سامنے والے دانت جیل میں ہوئے حملے میں ضائع ہو چکے ہیں اور اُن کے سر پر لگنے والی ایک چوٹ کی وجہ سے انہیں سننے میں بھی مشکل پیش آ رہی تھی۔ سینیٹر مشتاق کے مطابق کل ڈاکٹر عافیہ سے اُن کی ڈاکٹر فوزیہ اور کلائیو اسٹافورڈ اسمتھ سمیت جیل میں ملاقات ہو گی۔ اُنہوں نے ڈاکٹر فوزیہ کی (عافیہ صدیقی سے) ملاقات کا افسوسناک احوال سناتے ہوئے کہا کہ اگرچہ صورتحال تشویشناک ہے لیکن ملاقاتوں کا، بات چیت کاراستہ کھل گیا ہے۔ اب ضرورت اس بات کی ہے کہ عوام آواز اُٹھائیں اور حکمرانوں کو مجبور کریں کہ وہ فوری اقدامات کر کے عافیہ صدیقی کی رہائی کا معاملہ امریکی حکومت کے ساتھ اُٹھائیں۔ ڈاکٹر عافیہ صدیقی سے اُن کی ملاقات کا یہ مختصر احوال پڑھ کر دل رنجیدہ ہو گیا۔ سوچ رہا ہوں کہ اُن افراد کے ضمیر پر کتنا بوجھ ہو گا جنہوں نے پاکستان کی اس بیٹی کو امریکہ کے حوالے کیا ،جہاں ایک نام نہاد مقدمے میں ڈاکٹر عافیہ صدیقی کو اسی پچاسی سال کی سزا سنا دی گئی۔
یہ ظلم پرویزمشرف کے دور میں ہوا۔ پرویزمشرف کا انتقال ہو چکا ہے، جنہو ں نے اپنی کتاب میں تسلیم کیا کہ اُنہوں نے ڈالرز کے بدلے پاکستانیوں کو امریکہ کے حوالے کیا۔ امریکہ کے دباو میں اپنے شہریوں اور پاکستان کی ایک بیٹی کو امریکہ کے حوالے کرنے میں ایجنسیوں کے جن افراد کا کردار تھا وہ بھی آج کیا سوچتے ہوں گے۔؟ بڑی تعداد میں امریکہ کے حوالے کئے گئے پاکستانی جنہیں گوانتامو بے میں انتہائی مشکل حالات میں رکھا گیا تھا اُن میں سے کئی پاکستان واپس لوٹ چکے لیکن اس گھناونے کھیل میں شامل اُس وقت کے ہمارے ذمہ دار اور کرتا دھرتا اپنے رب کو کیا جواب دیں گے۔ نجانے کب تک ڈاکٹر عافیہ امریکی جیل میں پڑی رہیں گی۔ ہماری مختلف سیاسی جماعتیں یہ وعدہ کرتی رہیں کہ ڈاکٹر عافیہ کو پاکستان واپس لانے کیلئے امریکہ سے بات چیت کی جائے گی۔ اس دوران ن لیگ، تحریک انصاف اورپیپلز پارٹی کی حکومتیں آئیں لیکن ڈاکٹر عافیہ کی واپسی کیلئے کوئی سنجیدہ کوشش کبھی ہوتی دکھائی نہ دی۔ یہ موجودہ حکومت کی بھی ذمہ داری ہے کہ ڈاکٹر عافیہ کی پاکستان منتقلی کا مسئلہ امریکہ کے سامنے سنجیدگی سے اُٹھائے اور اُس وقت تک اس کیس کا پیچھا کرے جب تک کہ پاکستان کی اس بیٹی کی واپسی ممکن نہیں ہوتی۔ ڈاکٹر عافیہ پہلے ہی بہت ظلم سہہ چکی۔

عافیہ کی رہائی کی کنجی
امریکا میں مقید ڈاکٹر عافیہ صدیقی کی 20 سال بعد اپنی بہن فوزیہ صدیقی سے ملاقاتیں ہوئیں، ملاقات میں ڈاکٹر فوزیہ کے ہمراہ جماعت اسلامی کے سینیٹر مشتاق احمد اور انسانی حقوق کے وکیل کلائیو اسٹفورڈ اسمتھ بھی موجود تھے۔ ملاقات کے لیے عافیہ کو ایک چھوٹے سے کمرے میں لایا گیا درمیان میں ایک شیشے کی دیوار حائل تھی اس دوران ہونے والی گفتگو ریکارڈ کی جا رہی تھی وہ کافی کمزور اور خوفزدہ نظر آ رہی تھی، چار دانت ٹوٹے ہوئے تھے وہ التجا کر رہی تھی مجھے اس جہنم سے نکالو۔ سر پر چوٹ لگنے کی وجہ سے عافیہ کو سماعت میں مشکل پیش آ رہی تھی۔ ملاقات کے اختتام پر اسے زنجیروں سے جکڑ کر واپس لے جایا گیا۔ ملاقات کے دوران جیل کی بھاری کنجیوں کی آوازیں پس منظر موسیقی کی طرح وقفے وقفے سے بج رہی تھیں۔ عافیہ کو اس کے بچوں کی تصاویر بھی نہیں دکھانے دی گئیں جو اب 20 سال کے ہو چکے ہیں۔ اسے ماں کے انتقال کی خبر بھی نہیں دی گئی، عافیہ کا کہنا تھا کہ میں روزانہ ماں بہن اور بچوں کو یاد کرتی ہوں۔ اسٹفورڈ اسمتھ انسانی حقوق کے علم بردار وکیل ہیں جو اس سے قبل سیف اللہ پراچہ کو گوانتاناموبے جیل سے رہا کرا چکے ہیں، اس ملاقات میں سہولت فراہم کرنے کے لیے وہاں موجود تھے۔
ملاقات کے دوران انھوں نے فوزیہ صدیقی کو تلقین کی کہ اپنی بہن سے اہلخانہ کے بارے میں زیادہ سے زیادہ باتیں کریں۔ ملاقات کے بعد ڈاکٹر فوزیہ تبصرہ کرنے سے قاصر تھیں اور گاڑی میں بیٹھ کر روتی رہیں، کلائیو اسٹفورڈ نے کہا کہ وہ آیندہ دو دنوں میں اس کیس پر زیادہ توجہ مرکوز کریں گے کہ عافیہ کی رہائی کو ممکن بنانے کے لیے کیا کیا جاسکتا ہے انھوں نے کہا کہ’’ یہ ملاقات انتہائی افسردہ کرنے والی تھی لیکن اس جذباتی ملاقات کے لیے حاضر ہونا ایک اعزاز تھا۔ ‘‘ کلائیو اسٹفورڈ اسمتھ امریکی نژاد برطانوی ہیں جو انسانی حقوق کے علم بردار اور یوکے ہیومن رائٹس این جی او تھری ڈی سی کے ڈائریکٹر ہیں جو امریکی عقوبت خانوں سے کئی بے گناہوں کو رہائی دلوا چکے ہیں۔ انھوں نے پچھلے ماہ کے اوائل میں پاکستان کا دورہ کیا تھا۔ اس موقع پر کراچی بار ایسوسی ایشن سے خطاب میں کہا تھا کہ ’’عافیہ کے ساتھ بہت ظلم و ناانصافی کی گئی ہے۔ فوزیہ میری بہن ہے میں عافیہ کی رہائی کے لیے ہر ممکن کوشش کروں گا‘‘ اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر فوزیہ نے خطاب کرتے ہوئے یہ شعر پڑھا تھا کہ ’’پاسبان مل گئے کعبہ کو صنم خانہ سے۔‘‘
اس موقع پر سوال و جواب کے دوران ایک مندوب نے بہت معنی خیز جملہ کہا کہ ’’کلائیو اسٹفورڈ اس وقت ساری پاکستانی قوم کی نظریں آپ پر لگی ہیں اور ساری توقعات آپ سے وابستہ ہیں۔‘‘ اسٹفورڈ نے کہا تھا کہ میں بحیثیت ایک امریکی اس مقدمے پر بڑا شرمسار ہوں۔ اس ملاقات میں شامل سینیٹر مشتاق احمد نے کہا کہ عافیہ کی رہائی حکومت پاکستان کی ایمانداری کی مرہون منت ہے اور عافیہ کی رہائی کی کنجی اسلام آباد میں ہے۔ انھوں نے حکومت سے یہ مطالبہ بھی کیا کہ عافیہ کو فی الفور ایف ایم سی کارزویلسے کسی دوسری جیل منتقل کرانے کے لیے حکومت اپنا کردار ادا کرے۔ عدالتیں حکمرانوں کو عافیہ کے مسئلے پر وقتاً فوقتاً مختلف ہدایات اور احکامات جاری کرتی رہی ہیں یہاں تک کہ عافیہ کی واپسی کے لیے بین الاقوامی معاہدے پر دستخط کرنے کی ہدایت دے چکی ہیں۔ اسلام آباد ہائی کورٹ نے عافیہ سے اہل خانہ کی ملاقات اور ہر ہفتے خیریت سے آگاہ کرنے کا پابند کیا تھا اور وزیر اعظم کو دورہ امریکا میں اس مسئلے کو اٹھانے کی ہدایت کی تھی، سینیٹ عافیہ کی سزا کی مذمت اور اسے واپس لانے کی قرارداد پاس کر چکی ہے۔
عافیہ کی قید کے اس عرصے کے دوران آٹھ حکومتیں تبدیل ہو چکی ہیں کسی نے زبانی جمع خرچ کے علاوہ کچھ نہیں کیا۔ سینیٹر طلحہ محمود نے عافیہ سے ملاقات کے بعد بیان دیا تھا کہ حکومت اس کی رہائی کے لیے مخلص نہیں ہے۔ امریکی اٹارنی ٹینا فوسٹر کا کہنا ہے کہ وکلا نے عافیہ کے حق میں موجود ثبوت و شواہد کو ضایع کیا لگتا ہے کہ حکومت نے ان کی خدمات عافیہ کو مجرم قرار دلوانے کے لیے حاصل کی تھیں۔ عافیہ کے اہل خانہ نے بھی حکومت کو وکلا کرنے سے منع کیا تھا جنھیں پانچ ملین ڈالر کی فیس ادا کی گئی ہے۔ عافیہ کے لیے دنیا بھر میں انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں نے مظاہرے کیے اور انھیں ’’صدی کی خاتون‘‘ کے خطاب سے نوازا گیا۔ صدر جارج ڈبلیو بش اعتراف کر چکے ہیں کہ جیلوں میں ہونے والے مظالم امریکا کی شرمندگی کا باعث بن رہے ہیں۔ نیویارک کے ریٹائر جج رچرڈ برمین کا کہنا ہے کہ مقدمے میں کہیں ثابت نہیں ہوا کہ عافیہ کا کسی تنظیم سے تعلق ہے امریکی ایلچی رچرڈ ہالبروک کا کہنا ہے کہ حکومت پاکستان نے کبھی عافیہ کی واپسی کا مطالبہ نہیں کیا۔

A render I made for a contest on a discord server Miku Miku Central. This month's theme is album where the contestants draw inspiration from music and album covers. They can choose to recreate one's album covers or design an album cover for a single song.
I went with recreating takamatt's album called "East End Pandemonium". Funny thing is that while making this render I was listening to this album for the first time ever. I only get to know about it because of one song I adore - Tokio Funka. I could listen to it for hours hehe
While it's not a perfect recreation of the original image, I think it still matches the vibe of it. I had a lot of troubles with getting this to look right like never before but in the end I think it's good enough.

The “Fauzia” Effect
In which Kaveh helps a young lady named Fauzia cross the road by holding her hand. Alhaitham notices this, and has the oddest, most unpleasant shift in his heart. Misunderstandings unfold.
Alhaitham has many emotions. Emotions bundled up in his heart, hidden under lips pressed into a flat line. Jealousy was not one of them. Until a rather atrocious sight caught his eye that morning. It was regarding Kaveh, because of course it had to.
Kaveh was holding hands - correct, holding hands - with a beautiful young lady as they crossed the road together. It infuriated the usually composed Scribe. It made his heart itch. He eyed the two from across the road as he formulated a plan mentally. He strode quickly towards their destination, seconds before they could even reach it.
“Oh, Alhaitham? Why are you here? You’re usually in your office at this hour,” Kaveh said, flashing a confused and disturbed smile. He nearly never smiles around Alhaitham!
“Ah, you must be the roommate I heard about,” the lady said, holding out her free hand for Alhaitham to shake, smiling gently at him. Her eyes were light coloured and glossy, extremely pretty and reminiscent of bejewelled glass ornaments Kaveh adored.
How did she know? There’s no way Kaveh trusted her, right?
Her calm demeanour should give Alhaitham a sign that she could be trusted, but he was in no mood to get chummy with her. He shook her hands for the sake of politeness, then tore away immediately to cross his arms.
“Hm,” Alhaitham grunted in agreement, and nodded his head. He realised he was probably glaring at her unintentionally, judging by the way Kaveh frowned disapprovingly at him. He made a poor attempt to fix his face, earning another frown.
“You two must be very close,” the lady said again. “My name is Fauzia, I apologise for not introducing myself earlier.”
“Yes,” Alhaitham replied with such speed it took all three of them aback. Then he cleared his throat, only to feel bile piling up in his mouth as he attempted to restate his sentence. “We are indeed close, Fauzia.”
Her name certainly left a sour taste in his mouth. He wanted to get rid of it.
Fauia must’ve sensed the tension between all of them and excused herself, even telling Kaveh to let go of her hand since she could walk on her own from there. To Alhaitham’s surprise, she took out a retractable cane and went on her way, waving the both of them goodbye.
“Tell me, O’ Grand Scribe,” Kaveh turned to him immediately as soon as she was out of earshot, words laced with rage. “What exactly is wrong with you?”
“Think about your attitude earlier and tell me again, Alhaitham,” Kaveh stated again, inching closer towards him and jabbing his index finger into his chest several times angrily. “There is no way in Celestia you should ever treat someone so coldly - especially a visually impaired woman!”
Oh. Oh dear.
Alhaitham’s hands dropped to the side immediately. She was visually impaired! She couldn’t even see his nod earlier - she must’ve thought Alhaitham was a prick for not answering her question properly (though he was, in fact, a prick). The once prideful Scribe sulked in his own mortifying behaviour, and hung his head down low in guilt.
“Sorry,” he blurted out an apology.
“Don’t say sorry to me, save those words for her! She looked so uncomfortable just now…” Kaveh said, words trailing off with worry.
“I didn’t know,” Alhaitham sighed, shutting his eyes slowly. “Was that why you held her hand as you both crossed the road?”
“Yes,” said Kaveh, standing with arms akimbo. “I can’t blame you if you genuinely didn’t know, can I?”
Silence.
“Why the harsh treatment, though? ‘Glaring’ is not in the lexicon of basic manners, regardless of who you’re doing it to - disabled or not,” Kaveh broke the silence, his tone slightly softer than his former harshness. “Last I checked, acting severely impudent towards strangers was not in your brain program either.”
“That was unlike myself,” Alhaitham stated, eyes finally opening to meet crimson ones.
“Yes, we can both tell,” the architect had once again pieced together something he shouldn’t. “Wait… Were you- No, you couldn’t be...”
“I had a strange feeling in my chest when I saw you both holding hands,” Alhaitham confessed. “I found the gesture irksome. Before I knew it, impulsivity overrode rationality and I behaved in a way I shouldn’t.”
“Oh, Archons,” Kaveh’s lips curved up slightly in a faint smile. “You were jealous?!”
“Yes,” the Scribe suddenly felt bashful.
“Alhaitham!”
“Yep.”
“Seriously?”
“Regretfully so.”
At least Kaveh found the situation amusing.
“I can’t believe it! Hand-holding was all it took to evoke a new emotion out of you?”
“Apparently, yeah,” Alhaitham’s lips tipped upwards a wee bit, suddenly finding himself to be quite the embarrassing jester.
They both laughed together. Kaveh still chided Alhaitham for being impertinent between their mirthy giggles. He then explained further to Alhaitham about his relationship with Fauzia. He had been helping her cross the road for weeks already, first finding out about her when she appeared quite reluctant to cross the busy road laden with speeding carriages. After several times of doing so, they became friends and often ate lunch together whenever Alhaitham couldn't accompany his roommate.
With every new fact Kaveh revealed to Alhaitham, he couldn’t help but be amazed by her. As it turned out, she had just freshly graduated from Haravatat - she’s a semiotics expert just like Alhaitham. She had learnt to read and write in braille on both her own and with the help of Akademiya teachers.
Ever since that day, they held hands every time they walked on the streets. Alhaitham apologised to Fauzia the day after and cooked dinner for all three of them. Both men would also invite Fauzia to hang out in their home if she ever felt lonely in her humble abode, or was facing writer’s block. They would both also provide help whenever needed, but her independence didn’t require her of any assistance most of the time.
Bonus: Fauzia will be writing a book in braille soon. Alhaitham agreed to provide facts and new vocabulary or languages if needed, and Kaveh promised to illustrate her book. It’ll be available in the House of Daena in due time!!!

Kelela - Raven

In her long-awaited sophomore album, Kelela finds herself effortlessly shifting between sensual dance bliss and ethereal, healing ambient music, Raven a harmonious and fluid album whose unique vantage point on R&B lends Kelela’s breathtaking electronica with an incredible amount of humanity behind it all.

By stepping into the shadows, Kelela found herself an incredible new energy. In the years that have passed since her innovative 2017 debut Take Me Apart, Kelela’s minimalist, sensual R&B with unconventional textures and command of both the dancefloor and the bedroom has only become all the more alluring, Kelela careful in her presentation to perfect every element of her music and leave no spot of her world untouched. But with that came both new personal stressors and the terror of the outside world weighing on her: writer’s block and reestablishing personal boundaries in her relationships compounded by the global pandemic and Black Lives Matter uprisings around the United States turning her inward to better understand herself and what she wants from the world, her sophomore album Raven the result of six years of contemplation, reinvention and emotional restoration whose expansive soundscaping achieve the same effect as the heaviest dance music she’s put out to date. Across its more than an hour runtime, Kelela creates an oasis for herself through breathtaking electronica with an incredible amount of humanity behind it all, the album’s pitch black atmospheres lit up by neon synths and breakbeats but calmed by luxurious dancehall and ambient cooldowns, Kelela’s emphasis on fluidity letting her seamlessly slip from song to song with her own needs and growth always at the forefront. It’s cathartic through subtlety rather than explosivity, Raven rewarding deep listening with an endless ocean of Kelela’s R&B magic situated between new styles and an embrace of boundlessness.
With a handful of left-field electronic producers working alongside her, Kelela pushes Raven forward through a perfect balance of downtempo R&B jams and dancefloor bliss, meditation and euphoria both essential for her to leave the strongest impression. The most immediate parts of Raven are the latter kind of tracks: the futuristic breakbeats of Happy Ending and Contact spurred on by ballroom master LSDXOXO; Acemo and FAUZIA come together on the title track as it shifts from hypnotic synth ambiance to a rapturous dance breakdown, freeing and ecstatic as Kelela harnesses herself as her own source of energy and sheds the weight of the past; German ambient dub artist Florian T M Zeisig brings thoughtful tides of energy to the album’s slower sections, Let It Go propelled largely by a bassline and soft keyboard layers and second half highlights Holier, Divorce and Enough for Love some of Kelela’s most brilliant tracks despite how slow stormy they are. Her sound is rooted in electronica staple sounds - ambient, jungle, dub - but Kelela’s divine visions of Raven as an album of protection and rebirth keep the album remarkably refreshing and fantastically luminous. For her, Raven is a renaissance of her own resolve, dance music as both a personal salve and her way to nurture the world and those around her as Closure leans on Rahrah Gabor for an unexpected but electrifying rap verse that brings out a rawer, heavier sexuality Kelela tends to avoid with her hazier lyricism, Gabor riding LSDXOXO and Bambii’s decelerated beat with clever wordplay and loads of charisma (“Uh, what the lick read? / I'm waiting for you to pull up and come lick me / It's been a minute since I let you come and stick me / You know I always leave the situation sticky”). As Kelela works to nourish her own soul, the limitless reach of her music allows her to fill your own body up with her presence and make Raven a marvelous, transformative experience.
It’s an album that moves slowly and methodically, its fifteen songs spread across 62 minutes to make her dance songs deeply layered and the ambient tracks rich and expansive. Washed Away and Far Away open and close the album, hypnotic synth pads and her serpentine vocal improvisation expressing similar but distinct expressions of change, the former Kelela drifting away from the world and the latter the result of her fully immersed in her own mind for the previous hour, all the tension inside her released as the same sounds embody a new and rejuvenated Kelela. Despite much of the album being that sort of ambient electronica, many of the songs can easily be imaged as glorious ballads, Holier’s gentle pads careening around the gentle throb of a bassline that doesn’t ever establish a tempo for the song, instead soft pulses of low end that play against Kelela’s angelic vocals, while the melting delight of Sorbet runs with its fluttering synth arpeggios and reverb-soaked everything as Kelela loses herself in the moment-to-moment slow rush of physical contact (“Waves when we touch, rippling in / Soft on my mouth, sweeter than / I wanna lay out, sun on my face”). The calmness across all of Raven makes it endlessly relistenable, where the transitions between Closure and Contact and Fooley are so seamless you have to go through the entire thing again just to experience it in context another time, where drowning yourself in Kelela’s expansive ambient pieces makes those rushes of club intensity in Happy Ending and Bruises that much more incredible. By working for emotional cohesion as much as she does musical and tonal cohesion, Raven ascends to a level of mastery her debut gave dozens of glimpses of, Kelela entirely in her own element with a control over her sound she refuses to fully restrict, always assured in her ability to go off course for a moment and captivate you nonetheless.
Raven’s seamlessness and innovative take on atmospheric, imaginative R&B lifts it far beyond anywhere people expected Kelela to go, ditching the heaviness and deconstruction of her debut for a weightless and emotionally resonant album where putting herself back together is an act of patience and dedication rather than the jolts of energy Take Me Apart’s stories drew from. It’s a relaxed album whose creator is still fully aware of what she’s cleansing from her mind, every breakbeat groove and rumbling ambient piece so lush and layered to wash those negative feelings out of her. Raven pulls you in like nothing else will this year, Kelela’s quiet return to the world a tranquil and multilayered listen with more magic to discover every time.
