i’ve read so much tradcath bullshit the last two years. i can confidently say tradcath men fit into one of two categories:
“protestant-raised and converted to catholicism because of his crippling porn addiction and racist tendencies. reposts crusader and conquistador memes. is hated in his local parish.” tradcath
“catholic-raised band kid who ate his lunches with the religion teacher. smells like mildew. cut off all his friends that came out as gay after high school. now larps as an aquinian scholar and cries after jerking off.” tradcath

As a practicing Catholic I am genuinely curious as to what either A) causes doubt in your faith or B) drove you away from the church
This is not a post for debate, and I will not engage with replies to this post or DMs I receive on the matter. I just want to know what changed your mind on faith or what causes doubt

anti-lent activity of the day: making a snack in advance.  i’ve got spoons right now, and eating enough healthy food is something i personally struggle with a lot.  so, i’m making a snack (apple slices and peanut butter) for later, when i get hungry

I swear there is nothing that trad caths will not bitch about. They see other Catholics minding their own business and practicing their faith and will immediately nitpick every little thing those other Catholics are doing "wrong." Majority of the time they're not even whining about things that are technically sinful or heretical, they just can't stand the fact that there's Catholics who don't adhere to their way of doing things.

My friend is in danger of being deported to Bahrain if she cannot cover her legal fees for her refugee status hearing. If she is deported she will almost certainly be harmed or even killed by her family, who have discovered that she no longer practices Islam and is an atheist.

jehovah’s witnesses: “we don’t celebrate any holidays. we feel it’s sinful to do so.”
catholics: “today is the feast day of—” *looks at writing on hand* “the immaculate conception of the inauguration of saint leonardo copella delucas, who may or may not have even existed in real life. let us celebrate.”

i think the whole ‘culturally christian’ debate stems from a deep need to erase all influences of christianity from everything and particularly everyone past present and future. but thats impossible to do so the end goal, the praxis of what using ‘culturally christian’ amounts to is unclear, impossible to do instantly and extremely difficult long term; even if you wanted to it would take about the same amount of time christianity has existed and influenced other things, almost two thousand years. and because christianity impossible to tear down or uproot in the present but theyre still angry and want to lash out and blame someone for the world’s shortcomings, they go for the easy targets which are ex christians online and traumatized people

One thing that’s frustrating about small town religious education is (and this is especially true when talking about creationism & genesis), everyone wants to be a Biblical literalist until the one kid (CORRECTLY, might I add) brings up objections, and suddenly it’s all “oh no it’s just interpretations.”
Like… that’s bullshit and you know it. You never wanted to do hermeneutics for the last x number of years and now you’re gonna gaslight a bunch of kids/teens into thinking you always were talking about non literal interpretations. That you were always talking about intellectual parsing through poetic stories, and not that you’re simply an anti-science coward… fuck off.
