An encounter with a girl and Bucky leaves him gasping for air and grasping for what the hell is going on behind Bucky's frat boy facade. At least he gets some sweet relief, some coffee, and some courage, when he see his favorite barista.

Last Tuesday.
Sweat drips down Steve’s neck as he finishes out his bench presses. Endorphins and dopamine ooze into his bloodstream as his face flushes, driving him to push one more time to beat his personal record. His heart races from excitement as his arms extend, biceps bulging under the 210-pound barbell, pushing it up for the final rep of his set. At last, he reracks the weights and a proud smile spreads easily across his lips.
Going from 175 lbs to 225 lbs in the span of only a month was the last thing Steve expected upon coming to Richards. He wasn’t scrawny by any means before– in fact, as his mother consistently had to remind him, puberty had been exceptionally kind to him, going from five-foot-eight to a cool six-foot-two in just the last two years of high school– but, thanks to the daily regimens Bucky and Sam personalized for each of the brothers, Steve began to see real gains. Real changes. For the better, even he would admit. His jaw became sharper. His chest grew broader. His arms were now just a tad too tight for his own t-shirts.
“‘s all thanks to those prime Sigma genes!” Sam once told Steve while spotting him during one of the first sessions of the semester. Steve couldn’t tell if he was joking about their greek letters or not, so he shook the comment off and chalked it up to ‘Sam being Sam.’ Him and Bucky constantly preached the superiority of ‘Sigma Males,’ regardless if anyone was listening.
Steve never believed in that bullshit. His Ma would keel over if he ever even thought about that kind of concept.
Steve sits up, grabbing his sweat rag and water bottle next to the bench. Taking a long drink, his mind flips through through the schedule for the day: Drawing, then Astronomy and Art History back to back; a mandatory check in with his advisor; lunch or dinner somewhere in between; finally, some sports event-party-thing that Bucky and Sam were adamant the entire house hosts. On a Tuesday.
Steve huffs, rising from the bench and mopping the beads of hot sweat trailing down his temples. He needs to shower quickly in order to make it to class on time, especially if he wants to stop for coffee in the quad.
Not that the coffee is worth the detour on the way to class, in all honesty, but the comforting sight of the usual barista behind the counter is.
Since his first day on campus, something about her has drawn him to the cafe as often as possible. Eventually, they began small talk– well, she started the small talk. Gradually, they started chatting about more than just the weather. Then it became ‘what’d you get on the calc test?’ or ‘hey are you going to the football game?’. Her voice, her laugh, her quiet humming as she prepares orders regularly echoes in Steve’s mind. Her soft, kind eyes and warm smile is burned so deeply into his memory that he’s started drawing her. He doodles in the corner of his notes, sketches on napkins and newspapers, paints watercolor daydreams covering certain pages of his sketchbooks. All of them are her.
He can’t recall for the life of him how it came to be this way. It all happened so suddenly, so gradually.
Over the last few weeks, Steve found himself walking just a touch faster, leaving just a couple minutes earlier, to make sure he can stop by and see her before class. To him, she’s a breath of fresh air, a break from the cloud of testosterone and stress the frat house always keeps him in.
No matter what, she always makes his day just a little bit brighter.
She knows his order before he even makes it to the counter. She knows which classes to ask him about and on what days. She knows writing his name with a smiley face on his cup will make him tip just a little extra, just because she drew it.
She knows him.
Yet, he can’t exactly say the same about her.
Steve bites his lip, so incredibly caught up in thoughts of his coffee shop crush, he doesn’t realize where he’s walking until he runs smack into another body. Hard.
“Oof–Hey!”
The girl in front of him falls to the floor, dropping her phone, rag, and water bottle. Her headphones slip off her head, landing amongst the scattered remains of what she’d been holding.
“What the fuck–!”
“Oh, shit! I-I’m so sorry, lemme–” Steve bends down, offering her a free hand and genuine concern on his face. The girl’s eyes widen and she freezes when she looks up at him. The next thing Steve knows, she’s opening her mouth and getting ready to scream. Panic surges through him and he, too, becomes frozen in place, unsure of what else to do when there’s a soon-to-be-screaming girl in the middle of a crowded gym of frat bros.
Before her scream spills out of her throat, Steve hears a familiar voice behind him.
“Shay? What the hell happened?” Bucky appears, jogging from a machine around the corner. The moment he sees Steve bent over her– Shay, apparently– there’s a darkness that falls over his face as he approaches them.
“He–he–!” Shay hiccups from the ground, bottom lip stuck out in a pout and trembling ever so slightly. Her jacket hangs off her shoulder, half-zipped and barely covering her tanned and toned stomach, and her neat, platinum blonde hair remains in tidy braids plaited down to her shoulders. It’s as if she merely tripped on a rogue water bottle or an untied shoelace. Steve’s throat tightens.
“Bucky, I-I bumped into her, it was an accident, I was just helpin’ her up, I–”
Bucky stops. His shoulders are heaving, chest puffed out, and hands balled into tight fists at his sides. His dark expression makes him look terrifying. Steve’s never seen him like this before.
Steve swears he hears Bucky growl.
It takes a moment, but upon finally realizing it’s only Steve, Bucky backs down and calms almost instantly. His expression neutralizes into his usual suave smirk as he runs a hand through his cropped hair.
“Shay,” Bucky turns his focus to the girl still splayed on the floor. There’s a commanding undertone in his voice, something more dominant, more forceful, than Steve’s ever heard.
“B-but h-he,” Shay babbles on, “he pushed me!” Her cheeks are dry, eyes white without bloodshot or fresh tears. Her lip stays pouting, mimicking a stubborn toddler as she blubbers to Bucky.
“No, he didn’t. He didn’t do anything other than bump into you.” Bucky takes a step forward. “Right, Stevie?” His hand clamps onto Steve’s shoulder. His grip digs deep, tighter than usual. Steve nods quickly.
“Y-yeah, I, uh, wasn’t lookin’ where I was goin’ and I-I just didn’t, uh, see her.”
Bucky gives him a once over, his vice-like grip weighing on Steve like a two-ton barbell. He slowly nods to himself and takes his eyes off Steve, turning to Shay. Steve holds his gaze on Bucky, however, studying him for a second more. He notices the extremely subtle way Bucky is almost looking down on her. Something about Bucky’s eyes, the shift in his jaw, sends a phantom chill up Steve’s spine.
“C’mon, Shay. Get up.”
“But! But, Bucky! He–!”
“You heard me. Get. Up.”
Shay sucks her lip back in and reluctantly obeys as she collects her things and stands. Even with his eyes closed, Steve realizes he wouldn’t have been able to notice Shay’s petite, five-foot-something frame standing in front of him. She barely came up to the middle of his chest. How had he not seen her in his way?
“Now,” Bucky continues, “apologize to Steve.”
Shay scoffs, breaking her show of obedience. She gives Steve a not-so-subtle once-over. Her nose ring wrinkles in the crevice of her nostril as her lips curl into a snarl. She crosses her arms, cocking a hip and copping an attitude.
“Why should I–”
Bucky abruptly lets go of Steve’s shoulder and moves swiftly to stand directly behind Shay. His large hands snake around her waist and Steve can tell he squeezes her, hard, by the sudden, sharp inhale she takes. Her smug, bratty expression disappears immediately as Bucky leans down to the cusp of her ear, lips brushing against the silver rings and studs of piercings littering her cartilage.
“Steve is a brother, Shay. Now, apologize so we can let him leave and we can start your workout.” Bucky’s hands dig tighter into her waist. Steve’s stomach churns.
“I,” Shay sucks in another sharp breath and plasters on a forced smile. “I’m sorry, Steve.”
Bucky releases Shay and steps in front of her. Her hands fold around her stomach to cover the fingerprint marks bruising the sides of her stomach, gaze turning down to the floor at Bucky’s feet. Steve can see over Bucky’s shoulder that her lip is trembling. Genuinely, this time.
“Hey.”
Bucky’s tone snaps Steve’s focus back to him. Steve feels like a deer caught in front of a stopped car as Bucky studies him. The corners of his tight smile twitch into a smirk.
“I’ll see ya tonight, right, Stevie? Don’t forget, it’s baseball night.”
“Erm, yeah. Right. I’ll be there, Buck.”
Bucky winks at him, confirming some undisclosed agreement between them. Steve’s stomach backflips again.
Steve turns to finally leave, quickly making his way to the locker rooms, desperately wanting to shower off the uncomfortable ick clinging to him after whatever the hell that interaction was.
◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌
The door to the café chimes as Steve swings it open. The short line of customers turn to face him along with the barista at the counter. Steve stops mid-stride, panting from his sprint over from the gym. Sure, he’s got class in ten minutes, and it’s a fifteen minute walk to the art school, but he’s convinced himself he needs coffee and his daily dose of sunshine before continuing on with his day– especially after the whole ordeal in the gym earlier.
The barista grins at Steve. She mouths a ‘hi’ as she scribbles down the name for the current customer’s cup. Steve sighs, waving back and taking his place in line.
Admittedly, he was more worried than he thought about catching his favorite barista today. He chalks the anxiety up to the weird encounter with Bucky and Shay– the whole thing felt so wrong, so off. Everything about the way Bucky treated her, talked to her, how she acted before versus after Bucky got behind her– it rubbed Steve wrong in so many ways. He’s never seen or heard Bucky talk like that to anyone before. Not to Sam, not to Tony, or Clint, or even any of the random girls that show face at parties. He doesn’t know if he’s ever seen Shay around before, either. Something about the way she stood after, the stark contrast in her behavior, the way she tried to blame Steve for something he didn’t do.
“Can I help ya, stranger?”
The familiar voice brings Steve back from his clouded thoughts. She smiles warmly at him and he melts on the spot.
“I, uh–”
She giggles.
“I know your order already, silly. Is there anything else you’d like today?”
“N-no, uh, I’m good,” he stammers, sliding his card into the chip reader. “I just, uh–”
She cocks a brow, looking up at him from writing his name on the cup. Steve clears his throat, unsure why he’s suddenly stuttering at someone he sees everyday.
“Just, ah, needed to see you, honestly.”
He feels his cheeks automatically burn as he fumbles to put his card back in his wallet. He pulls out a couple ones and drops them in the tip jar for extra brownie points.
The barista’s eyes sparkle, holding her gaze on Steve. It’s a nice change, to see warmth instead of ulterior motives behind someone else’s gaze. He can tell she’s biting back a smile of her own as she finishes writing on his cup.
“Well, the feeling is mutual,” she says. “I honestly was beginning to think you weren’t comin’ in today.”
A fake pout crosses her lips before returning to a soft smile. She moves to the espresso machine and begins to make him a double shot. Steve scoffs a laugh, cheeks still burning. He shoves his hands in his pockets.
His heart skips, flips, in his chest.
“Ha, I, uh, got caught up at the gym.”
“Ah, so you’re one of those meathead gym bros, huh?”
Steve places a hand over his heart, jokingly wounded.
“Ouch! Wow, you’re really hittin’ where it hurts this mornin’, huh?”
She giggles, prepping the milk for his drink. “I kid, I kid. I respect the grind! Especially when steroids are in such high demand these days.” She flashes him a knowing smirk as she continues to move about the coffee bar.
Steve grins, shaking his head. He can’t believe her. He can’t get enough of her– her laugh, her voice, the way she looks at him. He stares at her for a moment, admiring the focus in her eyes as she meticulously finishes his drink, the curve of her lips when she’s satisfied with her work.
Steve is still staring when she appears at the counter to give him his drink.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer.”
Steve flushes again and presses his lips together, muttering an embarrassed apologizing. Before she turns to go, before he’s forced to continue on with his day until he sees her again tomorrow, a thought pops into the forefront of his mind. Before he knows it, his voice is working faster than his brain can.
“Hey, my-my frat is throwing a party this weekend at, uh, our house,” he starts, mouth instantly going dry. “Would, um, you like to maybe come?”
She stops. Her brow arches, mouth opening and closing without a word. She looks at Steve, really looks at him, studying him as an answer brews on her tongue.
Steve panics. “I-if not that’s totally fine, I, um, I just thought that–”
“Yes.”
Steve’s train of thought instantaneously derails.
“You–you… yes?” He repeats. She scoffs a laugh and nods.
“No promises, but yes. I’ll try to be there.”
Steve’s face hurts from smiling.
“Awesome! Great! I, uh, yes!” Steve confirms again.
Before he can say ‘yes’ for the tenth time, she pulls a marker out of her apron pocket and grabs his cup again, scribbling something on the backside. As she turns back to the coffee bar, Steve picks up his cup and turns it over. His eyes land on a smudged phone number followed by a tiny, smudged heart. He looks up, finding her gaze again, and melts as she bites her lip.
“Text me, meathead.”
Steve beams. Any and all words he’s ever known disappear from his mind.
“I can do that.”
As Steve leaves the cafe, he doesn’t care about being late to class as he enters her number into his phone. He doesn’t care about what the brothers will say come Friday when he introduces the first girl– the first person– he’s ever brought to a party.
He sips his drink, smiling to himself, knowing it’s the best damn cup of coffee he’s ever had.

Hello Everyone!
This is a long one, so apologies in advance!
You may notice the Klaine Advent looking a little different this year! As noted in an earlier post, we’re rebranding to the December Klaine Fanworks Challenge!
There are a handful of reasons we’re doing this, but hopefully this little refresh will get people excited about participating all the way to the end. For consistency this year this event will remain attached to the Klaine Advent blog, and we’ll determine after the event whether we need to change that in the future.
So, how are things changing?
There will be still be a daily word (yay!), these are chosen via a random word generator, and are NOT themed in any way. These words will post on this blog every day around 6 am Eastern Standard TIme.
That said! Since it is December, and Glee comes with a Christmas episode every year, and Klaine do have a Christmas duet tradition (more years than not anyway…) we will also be posting a weekly theme! These will be holiday flavored, and we are kicking off this inaugural event with the theme of Christmas Songs. Each weekly themed post will highlight a different song and some selected lyrics.
On to the details!
The Dates. December 1 - December 21
The Words. Every day around 6am, US Eastern Standard Time, a fresh new word will pop out of the queue. This year the words are not alphabetical, and were chosen by a random word generator. The wonderful @caramelcoffeeaddict did all of the artwork again this year!
How to participate. Anyone can contribute, no need to sign up! There will be a single word prompt post each day for 21 days (December 1-21), and a holiday themed post every Friday beginning December 1, with the final themed post dropping December 22. You can write a drabble (or a sentence or a novel, if you like), create an art piece, make fresh gifs based on the prompt - whatever inspires you! This year the tag will be: “december klaine challenge 2023” and please tag with the word of the day so volunteers can ID the posts they need to reblog (please please please make sure all of your contributions are tagged so we can find them!).
Contribute however works best for you. You can do something every day, every 4th day, once a week, altogether at the end, whatever works for you and your schedule. Use all the prompts or pick and choose what speaks to you. Set your own challenges. The only requirements for the Challenge are that it be Klaine centered, and that it references or uses one the word (or theme) prompt in some way.
Volunteers will be reblogging fics to the @todaydreambelieversfic blog, so you can always go scroll the blog to find the latest entries. Of course everyone (especially the authors!) would be delighted if people reblogged to their own blog - the more people who reblog something the wider the potential viewing audience. We want to encourage everyone to reblog as many fics as they like all throughout the month!!
Partnership. This year again we’ll be partnering with @todaydreambelieversfic. Authors and other creators for Klaine Advent who would like an additional place to promote their works are welcome to join as members. Just send a private message to @todaydreambelieversfic with your email address and they’ll add you to the blog membership.
Archive of Our Own. We have created a collection on AO3 for those people who don’t post to tumblr, and where those folks who do post to tumblr can share their advent works if you like! The collection will be up this weekend and I'll make another post when that's rolling.
Want to Volunteer? We can always use people to help with the daily reblogs! If you can spare one or two days please signup here!!
“But what if I don’t write or make art and don’t have time to volunteer?” You are the most important person in the Advent!! Read the fics, look at the art, let the authors and artists know how much you appreciate their work by reblogging and commenting and liking and all those things creators like. Nothing helps a writer or artist losing steam get motivated more than a nice comment from someone.

Wow. Y'all. I truly never expected so many awesome responses on the post I wrote last night about Dieter, Goya and Pedro on Talk Art. It is the first 'fun' thing I've written in so many years - after having felt blocked/paralyzed re: creative pursuits since 2020 (shit happened) -, without stressing about how I wrote it, and it means the world to me that so many people liked it and shared it.
I don't want to clutter up all the feeds by individually sharing and responding to the reblogs etc, so I'm throwing it together in one post here - because I want y'all to know I appreciate it so much. And it honestly made me even more excited that some of my favorite PP fic authors did so, because I've been enjoying YOUR work so much!
@chaoticgeminate Sending those hugs right back, and your fic was absolutely not a silly little piece! I truly love(d) it, and I'm glad it sent me down this little rabbithole. And yes, while writing that piece I also became more convinced that Pedro himself was a really big part in shaping Dieter and his background story. It's so damn intelligent and very much his style.
One thing I didn't mention yesterday (and I'm sure this is something a lot of people already spotted since the first day that the movie was online) is that I also came to realize how much Pedro has based Dieter's outfits and some mannerisms on Jeff Bridges' character The Dude from 'The Big Lebowski'. Never really saw that movie but I put it on today for a bit, and it was striking -- I'd even dare to say that the "'Bola, hold my hair!" moment on the toilet is a nod to how The Dude (who has longer hair) gets his face shoved into a toilet. Also, at one point when Bridges' character is addressed with "Mr Lebowski", he dismisses that and tells the guy to call him Dude, or even 'Duder' which, yeah, that's just a small step from 'Dieter Bravo'.
amycben on Reddit said the same thing about Bridges, and shared these Dieter pics, which definitely made it clear how our Feral Raccoon Boy's style is inspired by 'The Dude' <3 I don't care much for the Lebowski movie, but I love a good reference, especially since it's a Coen brothers movie - and we all know that Pedro now has a small role in Ethan Coen's upcoming movie 'Driveaway Dolls'. Anyway, I honestly hope that at some point Pedro will be asked about the work he did in shaping Dieter, because I'd love to hear more about this. There's no chance in hell that'll happen, because which journalist would ask him this? But I'm cool though if the universe wants to manifest one of us getting to interview him some time in the future, haha.
Anyway, again @chaoticgeminate - thank YOU really. I needed that deep dive more than I knew thanks to your writing!

@julesonrecord I'M TOTALLY IN hahaha, I saw your comment right before I went to bed last night and it made me smile so much!
@imaswellkid I'm def not an Apatow person either, and I'll be honest - the first time I watched the Bubble I couldn't get past the first half, haha. But I later began to realize that you should indeed watch it through a critical lens and as a reflection about the craziness that was going on, rather than 'oh this is a movie about the pandemic'. The Mando bud is great btw! But even better is the Baby Yoda bud - I have no clue how growers/dispenseries (I'm in the midwest) get away with naming their product after Disney stuff, but I'm sure glad it got me to try that hahaha.
@lunapascal IKR artist Dieter is so damn underrated, and I'm so glad that at least a whole lot of fic authors are giving him more of what he deserves! OK and I totally want to write some too now, hahaha. Especially because there's a lack of Dieter x OMC/m!reader fics, which tbh needs to be fixed.

@chronically-ghosted God don't get me started, it's so tempting - next thing you know I'll have suckered myself into writing Dieter fic (while I'm only just getting started now on two other WIPs), haha. But yes I'm so curious about what the unspoken canon is there -- and most probably Pedro is the one with answers to that since it seems so much like he created Dee. I ended up googling some Apatow interviews this morning and saw that he set out to make the Bubble as a sort of Christopher Guest movie (the mockumentary style), and other articles said that there was a lot of improv involved - so obviously Pedro must've contributed a lot. Particularly because I've read at least interviews with four directors (Zeke who did Prospect, Craig Mazin from TLOU, I wanna say Patty Jenkins, and I'm currently blanking on the other name) who spoke about how involved Pedro was, down to specific dialogue and character's motivations etc in shaping the movie (I think Zeke said that Pedro worked with them to tone down Ezra's Shakespearian manner of speech a little, which I can totally see happening since Pedro has done/read so much Shakespeare and it's easy to picture that he wants to fine tune it so it's accessible enough for audiences). Ugh, it's probably gonna take a long while until there'll be any long form interviews with him again, and sadly interviewers are probably not gonna ask about any of this.
Re: painting or acting, yesterday I read @blueeyesatnight 's That's Not Your Name-Dieter fic (LOVED it, can def recommend it!) and one of the coolest things about Dee's character development there is that it indeed delves into 'okay how did he pick acting versus art' and more background story, plus how in the current day events of the story he is even making his own oil paint. That has become my headcanon now <3
@tessa-quayle I'm so glad you liked my post!! I really really wish that Russell and Robert would do another episode with Pedro. I love Russell in particular (sorta followed his work since Being Human was released, which holy crap was already 15 yrs ago?), but the way they attempted to interview Pedro back then was kind of a hot mess - and I say that lovingly hahaha. They were so enthusiastic that they talked over him so/too many times, so I'd love a tad calmer conversation where P has the opportunity to go more indepth.
@tvversionperson IKR there is SO much plot and character development to be explored with Dieter in that movie, which of course it doesn't have room to delve into but shit I wish they would/could. Or at least to just hear Pedro talk about what his thoughts are on it, because you know he most definitely had Dee's entire back story fleshed out in his head when he shot this movie.
Super long post, but again, I just wanted to thank y'all for the love. This is the first time I've done anything writing wise re: the PP cinematic universe, and all your responses have been so heartwarming and really encouraged me to do more stuff in one way or another with the Pedro boys, be it rabbit hole analysis or fic.

So I’ve downed almost a litre of water after that, and I’m having FEELINGS about Sam’s newest audio!!! Putting it under a cut cause spoilers, nsfw talk and cause I’m gonna ramble
First off, the fact that Darlin was sitting waiting on his porch for him was so fucking cute but also heartbreaking at the same time. That they wanted to talk to him badly enough to sit and wait on his porch for an hour, but didn’t want to bother him by letting him know. That they would just wait there for as long as it took.
And then hearing him mutter while he dug around and gave them a key was just… 😭
This also explains why Sam didn’t get an Aftershock. He stuffed it all down. There wasn’t anything to show from him because he wasn’t ready to show it yet. Also, fuck yes, reclaiming his love of driving, not letting Alexis take that from him.
I cried so many times listening to him recount what he went through. Especially the part about David. But listening to him lament and spiral, grinding on how he could have done this, how this could have happened if he’d still been that… the PAIN in his voice, his struggles not to burst into tears on the spot. I knew I was going to need to hydrate for this video, but I didn’t think I’d need to from crying so hard.
Also, how dare you, Sam Collins, claim you’re not a poet, after giving the single most beautiful confession I’ve ever heard. I know this wasn’t technically his confession video, that he already did, but he dropped The L Word this time around, and in such a beautiful, devastatingly sweet way… just… FUCK…
But oh man, when I heard that man say he was ready, all the air left my lungs, I just… 🥵
I nearly died when he stopped and assured Darlin about their body ❤️ to have something the fandom largely headcanoned be made official was SUCH a giddy moment for me X3 and he did such a wonderful job of it too ♥️ and that he stopped IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DEED to give us ANOTHER heartbreakingly sweet confession about how important Darlin is to him, and how much this meant??

The war was over. Cody was... adjusting. Just like all his brothers, to their new roles as Citizens of the Republic. They'd all been given housing, across few different neighborhoods with spare buildings. Cody wasn't sure how one could have a spare building. All those planets, and every single one of them had been in need of more buildings, for one purpose or another.
But he wasn't going to question this one.
Especially not when it allowed for his head to be resting on the one person's lap he'd never let himself imagine.
(He'd imagined it so much in the beginning, when he'd had more hope. Towards the end, really every moment after those first couple months, the ache was too painful, too deep and holding too much of who he was and who the man he loved was, the truth of their positions, of what their purposes were. He'd had to make himself stop.)
The war was eight months away. Eight months that had brought many things to Cody's life. Brothers upon brothers, foods that filled the whole floor of apartments with rich smells, a few actual flimsy books, and lately, Obi-Wan himself, sat just like he was now. His right hand rested on Cody's waist, his other holding onto a datapad that was slowly slipped from his grasp. Cody reached up to slide it from Obi-Wan's fingers before it could thunk onto the floor.
Obi-Wan's head twitched where it was bent, resting against the back of the couch. His snoring was interrupted but a snort and Cody held very, very still, arm still outstretched. Obi-Wan's right hand flexed on Cody's side, then he relaxed again, snores filling in the room again. Cody let out a breath and slid the datapad down and readjusted himself, smiling softly at the way Obi-Wan's snores reverberated through his stomach onto the back of Cody's head.
If this was his life now, then maybe it was something Cody could hope for.

Fox was finishing up the last of the paperwork he was forcing himself to get through when the swish of his office door pulled his head away from the glare of the datapadd light.
Quinlan stood just inside the door, fiddling with his lightsaber. His eyes didn’t leave the hilt as he took the handful of steps across Fox’s tiny office until he was right next to Fox. Fox couldn’t help the small smile that broke onto his face. A focused and quiet Quinlan was always interesting.
“Quin?”
Quinlan grunted but nudged Fox’s chair with his hip. Fox let his grin grow just a bit, slowly reaching up to slip the lightsaber from Quinlan’s grip. No matter how long it’d been since Quinlan had first trusted him with it, with his life, Fox still felt the power of the weapon in his hands.
He’d asked Quinlan once, if it mattered that he wasn’t Force Sensitive. If it made things harder on him, his partner not being able to feel the same way he could. Quinlan had said it was a blessing. Fox felt so deeply, so thoroughly, in ways Quinlan had never been able to. Quinlan felt deeply, but in different ways. All that energy all the time. It was a lot. Coming back to a partner who felt so viscerally on a purely emotional level was a breath of fresh air.
Fox had thought he’d gone a little poetic on him, but he appreciated what he was trying to say.
Grabbing his toolset from a drawer, Fox began working on a couple screws as Quinlan sat on his desk. They didn’t need to say anything to each other. A few moments later, Fox handed the lightsaber back to Quinlan. Quinlan ran his calloused fingers over the screws, the panels, then in one swift movement slid off the desk and ignited the saber.
It still took Fox’s breath away.
Quinlan pressed a kiss to Fox’s cheek as he spun into the most open area of Fox’s office, running through a few sets of exercises.
“I’m going on a mission tomorrow,” Quinlan said, voice steady even as his movements were swift and ceaseless. “I could use some help and you could use a day out of the office.”
“And how are you going to be framing this mission, Quinlan?” Fox laughed. “You need extra protection, so you’re bringing along the Commander of the Guard, of all clones?”
He knew he wasn’t keeping his amusement out of his voice.
Quinlan turned, locking eyes. “It’ll be dangerous, so yes.”
Fox’s grin was all the answer Quinlan needed.

Cody had stopped going into town after the first time. There had been so many troopers wearing armor so similar to the armor that had given him protection throughout the war, that had been so important to so many brothers who were now fallen. Cody knew most of those helmets hid faces not like his, faces of desperate or evil citizens of the Empire. Even so, every voice from those helmet modulators made his heart squeeze in his chest, and by the time he returned to the hut, he hadn't been able to regulate his breathing or stop the tears from falling.
So he stayed and Obi-Wan went. But Obi-Wan was late, six days late. Late meant trouble, which meant the Empire, which meant Ben being found out and everything that had just started to fall into place would--
A silhouette breached the horizon, cresting a dune to the east.
The war had scarred him, mind soul body, but Cody ran out to meet Obi-Wan as fast as he ever had. Obi-Wan didn't use the Force any more, pushed it away as much as he could, but he must have sensed Cody's relief because he was running to meet him too, arms outstretched.
Their bodies clashed and they whirled around, kicking up sand and nearly tipping over the side of the dune. Obi-Wan's hands enveloped Cody, pressing against his ribs and around his waist. Obi-Wan's shaking breath rushed in and out between soft. chaste kisses pressed to Cody's ear. Cody's own hands were shaking where they ran through Obi-Wan's hair, as grey and disheveled as it always was. Cody's own breathing came slower with each pass through Obi-Wan's hair, and in time they were breathing in tandem. Obi-Wan squeezed the back of Cody's neck, and apology, and together they retreated back to their hut.

Ok so in my opinion:
Cody-- Cody is steady. He's a very steady, ready presence who thinks things through down to the smallest detail bc lives are on the line and he can't risk them any more than he's forced to. He's not cold, which is a weird characteristic I've seen attributed to him. I consider him very emotionally intelligent. This is largely due to the fact that he's both an eldest sibling and a commander. He's gotta know what the vibes are and also how to interact with the vibes. He's very intelligent emotionally and otherwise. I think in an effort to explore his childhood, people make him shut-off and overly guarded. Not to say he would throw himself into anyone's arms, but I think sometimes people make him oddly closed. He was profoundly affected by how he was raised, but he's taken it in stride and is very much a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps guy (even if he barely has bootstraps to begin with) and so that when he does begin to process it I don't think it'd present in the ways some people present it. If that makes sense. He needs to have a rock to rely on as much as others need him to be their emotional touchstone.
Obi-Wan-- Obi-Wan is based on faith and hope. People water these two things down and wildly misconstrue what faith is. Faith doesn't make you stupid or naive. Faith and enduring hope, even when his happiness is gone, is what makes up who Obi-Wan is. I think when put into romantic contexts, the aspect of Obi-Wan gets diminished or erased. He gets really bumbling, and I don't feel this is really part of who he is. Like, letting him have a little bit of human-ness, like having messy quarters or losing things doesn't mean he's suddenly this spacey, nearly childish character. I do like those traits! But in balance and proportion with his core character.
Dynamic together-- I mean I just dislike when ppl make one dominant over the other, especially when it's Cody. And I mean generally dominant, not necessarily sexually (that's not my area of fic-expertise so while i'm assuming the dominance trope gets brought up a lot in those fics i may be wrong). To me, they're balanced because both understand their duties. Obi-Wan's dedication to his family is strong, but his faith has had to be stronger, and this allows him to understand why Cody must put his vode above everything. Both had screwy childhoods but didn't think it was necessarily effecting them until much later. To me they have a grounded, calm dynamic. Not to say they can't be a force to be reckoned with- obviously, having fought together and leading thousands (i think thousands is correct) of vode into battle. And them surviving together, throughout the war and, in my preferred canon, beyond the war, bonds them deeply as well. I think that people give them an opposites-attract dynamic when it's really a similar-similar dynamic

My role as a regressor is the little sibling who learned to talk and hasn't shut up since and who learned to walk and now can't stop moving.
The toddler who isn't potty trained yet but wants to hold your hand and walk around an art gallery and patiently critique the pieces.
The little one who laughs too loud at the silliest things and doesn't know the right measuring cup for what you're baking.
The little who's trying to use a pull toy on playground bark instead of hard wood or cement.
The baby who gets belly raspberries and kicks their legs.
The one who makes their big sibling feel proud to be a big sibling.
That's my job as a little.

I saw this really nice post about how in a lot of posts, financial responsibility for a little is touted as the mark of a good Caregiver; how that idea is materialistic, not the best way to express affection, and generally not a sustainable option for caregivers. (Points I totally agree with)
Obviously I get why this is such a common tip, children aren't given financial freedom and rely on caregivers to pay for toys and stuff. Just because gifts ARE your love language, or little items DO help you regress, doesn't mean you need to put that on your carer.
Here are some nice alternatives where there is minimal to no financial burden on caregivers:
What Littles can do:
If you're very very close with your caregiver, you can always ask for them to hold your wallet or money for you (just make sure you count it up and keep track!)
If you're not as close, hand them the money before you get up to the cash register after you know what you want to buy.
Simply take them shopping with you. Pay for your own things (like a big kid!), but have CG's help pick out your toys or gear. (You can even do this online with a share-screen feature!)
Make a wish-list or Christmas-list! Go through Amazon, seasonal catalogues, or even actual stores and just window shop together! You don't need to buy anything.
You can buy materials for a project while big, and just assemble it with your carer. Even if things don't turn out, you'll have made something together. (This is especially nice with food!)
What Caregivers can do:
make your little a picture :) Everyone, little or carer, enjoys a hand-made piece, even if it's just a little doodle you made in five minutes.
Go to the library or check out some stories to read together next time.
If you do want to surprise your little, you can check with relatives, friends, and neighbors for toys (you'd probably be surprised how many cousins or aunts or friends' parents are trying to get rid of old toys and will be willing to give you Lego and Barbie sets for cheap or free)
Thrift stores are wonderful, too, and create a treasure-hunt environment which is also more of a fun experience for the both of you. Many times, you'll probably leave only having spent gas money and some time.
But of course, life is not about stuff. Being little is not about stuff.
If you're having trouble finding caregiver advice or activities that are wallet-friendly, I'd highly suggest looking into minimalist or DIY/nature centric childhood lifestyles like Montessori or Waldorf (even if you don't agree with the philosophies).
I could go on and on about how these concepts can be adapted for littles, especially littles on a budget, but I won't for now. But they can be really helpful in creating a child-like lifestyle and atmosphere that is cheap and still stimulating enough for regressors while still making a warm and nostalgic environment. (They can also be subtle). So if you're a little or caregiver on a budget, it might be nice to look into those.
The point is: You have options.
Regression does not need to be expensive for caregivers or littles.
You don't need to spend a billion dollars on these things.
Regression is a therapeutic tactic and a hobby, and it does not need to be one only open to the financially well-off.

Taking care of a small group of littles and being a caregiver for them is such a cute concept;
Setting up a quilt in the sun outside as a safe space if they're tired or want a break. It's littered with various toys and a couple of picture books. But the lazy sunshine makes everyone happy and we're all working together in the garden.
Perhaps there's a baby in my lap, helping me put dirt into the garden beds, getting their hands dirty as they play.
Maybe a toddler is running around helping with watering the plants or helping me poke the seeds into the ground.
Possibly, there's an older kid who's a little bit more independent with their own game going on. They play on the swing and build fairy houses. I hand them a bowl and they collect flowers and other plants to put in their mysterious mixture of "medicine"/"perfume".

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
My wildest headcanon? That's a hard one. I don't really do a lot of headcanoning! Mostly I just turn stuff into actual fanfic rather than just headcanoning it, and so I keep a layer of separation between the canon and my fic, if that makes sense. I guess I have a lot of headcanons of Fire Emblem characters being lesbians in canon even while not strictly defined as such (like Minerva and Palla in fe11), but those are usually pretty common ones.
Here's a couple of headcanons for you:
Nico Minoru (of Marvel's Runaways and others) realized she was bisexual while on the team of A-FORCE (2016), i.e. while surrounded by gorgeous and powerful women. Because come on. (Context: in the original Runaways series from the early 2000s, Nico was portrayed as straight: in the new Runaways series from 2018, she had since realized her bisexuality.)
In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, only characters who are lovers and characters with the Thief class can exchange gold. I think this is because the Thief (Dew in the first gen, Patty or Daisy in the second) characters happen to be people who deeply love all their friends.
I also headcanon...pretty much everyone as trans and/or gay. If I like them (especially for Fire Emblem, where characters often have very little character at all) they get the "YOU ARE GAY NOW" seal of approval.
Oh, here's a real wild one! Wolf (from Fire Emblem 11) is a trans woman! This is because YOU saw her and went "she's a girl" and I went "okay" and rolled with it. This may come up in my fanfic sometime, who can say

🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?
I do! Here's a section from the first chapter of a Minerva/Palla haunted house AU I've been working on in the background.
The room is soaked in dust. At one point in time it had probably been a bedroom, and indeed a bed frame rots grayly in the corner. Rather than any mattress, however, it’s covered in boxes: boxes which have sprawled out to take over the rest of the room like an invasive species of plant. The walls are bare. The edge of the room’s one window can just be made out, the rest of it totally obscured by still more boxes. They stack five feet high easily, and though Palla is tall enough to circumnavigate the undergrowth they form with ease, and Catria at least tall enough to manage, Est can barely see over the box in front of her, and she complains loudly at this. Catria argues lightly back, and Palla smiles under her breath as she makes her way around, simply looking.
None of the boxes are labeled: the lower ones have more the look of trunks, and Palla idly wonders when cardboard had been invented, whether this was someone else’s reshuffling of the Macedons’ remaining possessions after their departure. She cracks open the nearest top box to find stacks of books: unlabeled volumes in that old style you would see on the shelves of houses that had become museums. Carefully opening one, then another, to their title pages, she sees that they are books of strategy: for warfare and diplomacy. Interesting.
I just love the Whitewings and Macedon and all that jazz! Also I should write more of this, I was having a load of fun with it.
✨️ Out of the comments you’ve received on your fics, what are two or three of your favorites?
! I love to receive any comments because it tells me that people enjoyed my work enough to tell me about it, and when you write for fandoms that are as relatively obscure as I do (in terms of fanworks), every little bit counts for a lot! The exception to the obscure fandoms of course is the Goncharov fic I wrote, which became hugely popular and now I'm considering writing a second chapter or sequel, just because of the absolutely hogwild response.
Here's a coupla specifics:
"Always happy to see the Nagi tag get a little bigger, and you have a fascinating version of her here! i think the best fire emblem game names are the jugdral ones, i.e. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. let’s break this down.
1. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
this one rules firstly because it’s really long and weird. in a series with game names that evoke fantasy tropes and magic (like “blazing blade” and “shadow dragon” and “sacred stones”, or even something like “path of radiance,” or “mystery of the emblem,” which could be a nancy drew novel title), this game name easily stands out the most in the list. like okay, fantasy, fantasy, mystery, magic, artefacts...Genealogy. you know what i associate genealogy with?? my mom looking at ancestry dot com for fun and trying to collate our family history a few years back. i do NOT associate it with magic boys with swords and tragedy and pseudo-medieval political machinations. too bad that’s what you get!
secondly? it’s fully accurate. i mean i know game names are usually relevant to their games (because otherwise whats the fuckin point) but like. “shadow dragon and the blade of light” specifically calls out 1 character (the shadow dragon) and 1 magic artifact (the blade of light). three houses is about 3 houses but you only pick one of them and the only relevance it has to the story is “you pick between 3 groups” and “there are 3 groups in the game that fight each other.” big deal. that’s also true of, like, arguments i have with my family over what game we want to play at thanksgiving.
genealogy of the holy war? you cannot escape the fact that this game is a genealogy of a holy war. 100% of the game is dedicated to being a genealogy of a holy war. (if you’re not familiar: the first half of the game follows a dude named Sigurd as he gets embroiled in political conspiracy as a scapegoat by an evil cult that’s manipulating the government. the second half follows his son (and the kids of all his friends from the first generation) some ~20 years later as they go and fight the evil cult that’s now fully taken over the government.) you wield weapons blessed by your gods and use them to defeat a cult that wields dark magic and a weapon blessed by their (evil) god. this war is really fuckin holy. and hey two generations (AND the pairings in the first generation alter the stats of kids in the second) where it matters who your parents are - thats a genealogy baby! we did it! that’s the name of the game! and it’s Everywhere.
2. Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
what the fuck. what the fuck is this. “thracia”?? that isn’t a real word. all the other fire emblem titles are real words. why is 776 there?? is it seven hundred seventy six?? is it 7:76, the worst time of the day?? is it like 7.76?? it’s the fifth game in the series!! not the 776th one!! no other fire emblem games have numbers in the titles!! what the fuck is going on!?!?

I am WAY late to the Flynn Fenton party, but I’m still jumping on the bandwagon regardless cuz I love how the phandom just hijacked this child for their own XDD
For my take on Flynn, I’m tossing him into my au and rather than being a long lost older brother, Flynn is Danny’s great grandnephew! Danny obviously never had kids (being married to a ghost and all), so Jazz has single-handedly kept the Fenton bloodline going. I don’t have all the specifics yet, but Jazz had at least one child (a son) and raised him as a single mother, so that’s why the Fenton name continues on
Danny dies the rest of the way and becomes full ghost before Flynn is born, but he and Dan still hang around the family and help take care of them when they can. Flynn is Danny’s favorite (for reasons I have yet to come up with XD), so he and Danny are fairly close UvU
The incident with Misery Vex (did the phandom ever decide on what to do with her??) involves Flynn being in the lab at the wrong time and he gets nabbed by her, and once Dan and Danny catch wind of the kidnapping, they immediately go after them and there’s hell to pay; don’t mess with Flynn’s flaming dead uncles XDD
Flynn is understandably shaken up by the experience, so once he’s returned home safely, he asks his uncles if they can train him to be a ghost hunter so that he can protect himself and others in the future. Dan and Danny are of course thrilled at the idea, so they teach Flynn everything they know and help him build his arsenal. The chains Flynn has are of course Fenton brand, and I’m still figuring things out, but I’m thinking maybe his staff is retractable or something so he can store it in one of the pouches on his belt when not in use X3 I really like the half-up/half-down hairstyle I’ve seen some people give Flynn, so I wanted my version to have that as well, and Flynn’s hazmat suit is designed the way I have it cuz he wanted it to look more like a superhero costume so he could look cool while fighting ghosts XD

Rewatching the earlier episodes of season 1 DP made me realize that there was such a fluid, dynamic feel to the animation and shot compositions that becomes lost later on in the series. Those early episodes let the characters break their models just enough to breathe and move more naturally, whereas by the time we reach season 3, the characters are so strictly kept on-model, their movements feel stiff and lifeless and that always bothered me
Even how ghost abilities were animated early in season 1 looked so cool, like how both Danny and the ghosts had moments of being translucent, how Danny’s ghost sense behaved more dynamically instead of the tiny wisp it became, and how intangibility and beams and other junk looked more ghost-like. It gave the show more of a supernatural feel, like this was a kid with spooky powers fighting off spirits, rather than what we later settle into that feels more like superhero fighting monsters. Season 3 is especially guilty of the latter
I’m gonna focus for a moment on “Attack of the Killer Garage Sale” cuz I literally just watched it today and it has those early animation elements I mentioned. The fight between Danny and the possessed electric shaver had some great animation moments for Danny; the way he squeezes himself out of the cord wrapped around his waist was delightfully fluid, and the subtle movements when his legs reformed from his ghost tail were a nice touch, too. The way his ghost sense trails from his mouth to Dash’s door while he’s at the party was such a cool moment as well, like it really makes it look like a ghost sense in that it literally sensed where Technus was and was directing Danny towards him, I really wish it behaved more like that throughout the show’s duration, or at the very least did more beyond the tiny puff. Also, how Danny’s intangible form wisps and lingers when he shoves Technus out of Dash’s room was great, too ;o Then there’s one of my favorite, most memorable shots from the entire show, the scene where Danny comes flying into frame directly from the camera before slamming into a wall right behind him, like my god that was perfection =w= I also wanna point out that during Danny’s initial scuffle with Technus in the lab, Danny’s aura was blue. It was a subtle detail but I thought it was really neat ^v^
Of course there’s more moments and other S1 episodes with the afforementioned elements, and I also wanna take a sec to point out that whoever was the lead artist/animator on “Doctor’s Disorders”, as well as on the second half of episodes like “Lucky in Love”, “Million Dollar Ghost”, “Pirate Radio”, and “Public Enemies”, I love them and have always been fascinated with their character animation ever since I was little UvU That falls into the same category as the more dynamic/fluid animation we got earlier in the series, which unfortunately petered out in the beginning of season 2; I never saw that artist’s style crop up again after “Pirate Radio”
To be perfectly honest, I would KILL to see “The Ultimate Enemy” animated in the same manner of early season 1. TUE is my favorite episode and I think it would look super cool with that type of style X3
TL;DR I miss the more dynamic and fluid animation style of season 1 and wish they had kept it up through the entire series

There is a post for my 1K Event, but this is just my thank you post since I’ve never done one before.
Here goes,
I don’t know how many people know this but when I started writing again this summer I was going through the toughest time in my life. This space helped me heal so much since I actually love writing more than anything I’ve ever loved outside of my family. I realized that I can be by myself forever as long as I have a notepad. Just know that this blog has impacted me more than yall will ever know. I’m in such a happy place now—especially compared to where I was—so that’s why 1K of you deserve your flowers.
Omggggg I really hope I don’t miss anybody and if I did please know that I appreciate you so much for your constant support, love, etc. I have soooo many amazing people to thank for getting here and not just dipping since I won’t do another till 2K (if I ever get there lol)🤞🏾. 26. Playful or torturous tickles?
Definitely depends on my mood, I usually prefer more playful and teasy tickles, and I like them because there’s more Rome for banter and it requires less stamina so it tends to last longer. But sometimes when I’m in an intense lee mood or if I’m feeling dangerous, I just wanna be wrecked. Like recently since I’ve single and haven’t told my friends about my liking of tickling, I just get insanely flustered whenever it’s mentioned a day it keep building up.
30. Tummy tickles or feet tickles?
I’m more comfortable with my tummy than I am with my feet, and it’s closer to a lot of other spots. And c’mon tummies are pretty cute hehe.

1. Would you rather be more or less ticklish?
Definitely more ticklish, from my experience I like the sensations that come along with it so I want more of that even if it’s torture. It would probably also level the playing field more for any of the tickle fights I get into, which is fun and being more vulnerable would mean I would have to ask less, yay!
2. Do you have any melt spots?
I think my lower belly is the one of the only ones I can think of, thought it would be a regular spot for a while but tried it out and didn’t tickle that much. Definitely felt nice though.
3. Lers/switches, what’s your favorite spot to tickle?
Probably the sides, tum and armpits. They’re all pretty easy to reach and in close proximity to eachother. I especially love poking the sides, you can get such an adorable reaction from just one poke and I love it heheh.
8. Do you have any unusual ticklish spots?
Ok so this is weird but a while ago I tried one of those head masager things on my buttcheeks haha. They were pretty sensitive but haven’t really had much other experience to back that up, other than that maybe around the boobs? Tmi? Sorry 😅

Aaaaa it’s hard to choose a just one cause they’re all so good! I like a lot of the Sanders sides fics, especially the ones by @inconveniently-placed-cactus or @oliviaischillin1204 and I think @fluffymary’s art is really good! There so much more stuff that I can’t specifically name right now but oh my god this community is so creative and talented I am living for it! To all my t-content creators out there, I respect you and appreciate you all so much 💖

Ok I just had a really good idea for a Be More Chill t-word scenario!
So y’know how the Squip has access to Jeremy’s body and nervous system, and he can make Jeremy move and feel pain and stuff?
There is no reason why he couldn’t simulate the feeling of being tickled…
And he can literally read Jeremy’s mind so if he was in a particularly bad lee mood that day, or being extra stubborn about not following ‘adivice’, the squip would know.
And you better believe he’d be using that shit to his advantage, you cannot tell me that computer is not a ler.

Hi, anon! First off, I want to share a picture with you:
Alright, now that that’s out of the way…
I’m going to assume you’re referring to the fuseboxgames subreddit, since the only other one I’m active in is the LITGFanFiction sub, which is a very lovely, supportive place. And yes, the Fusebox subreddit is toxic. But I’m not sure why you’re lumping me in with the toxic people, since a) I hardly ever post there, and b) when I do post/comment there, I’d like to think I’m either being helpful (answering people’s questions) or generating polite discussion. I have never attacked anyone for having a different opinion than my own.
One thing I like about reddit is that even though it’s still anonymous, you still have an actual account, so all of your interactions are with a person with a username, and you can look at their profile and see what other stuff they’ve posted. Whereas on tumblr, you have the option (if enabled) to leave anonymous comments/questions in someone’s inbox. That means that if people want to send hate, they can do so anonymously and not suffer any consequences for their actions. That opens up a lot of possibilities for toxicity on tumblr, something I’ve seen a lot of other people deal with in my few short months on this platform. I haven’t dealt with much of it myself, but every once in a while it happens.
Anyway, the reason I joined tumblr in the first place was because the toxic subreddit was cracking down on fanfiction updates, and since I’m a fanfiction writer, I was invited by other fanfiction writers to join tumblr and share my work here. So, I did! That’s why I’m here polluting tumblr. And can I just say that this place is the biggest hellhole I’ve ever seen? Wow. I thought reddit was bad, but this place is something else. I’ve seen a lot of shit go down, mostly because of people hiding behind anonymity to spread hate. It’s kind of weird that those same people would accuse a different platform of being toxic, but oh well.
As far as polluting tumblr is concerned, boy, the amount of content I see in my feed each day that I really couldn’t care less about is astounding. It’s impossible to avoid, and it makes scrolling through the app/site a pretty big chore. I personally don’t post that much, I just share my fic chapter updates (W&S is updated once per week, EOTW is a bit more sporadic) and reblog stuff I like. I don’t really think that’s polluting, but I guess we all have different opinions.
Maybe it’s fanfiction updates you have a problem with? I try to tag all my stuff, so maybe blocking certain tags would help? Or you could just block me, pretty sure that’s an option, too. I dunno, I’m pretty new to this and haven’t had to block anyone yet. And as a fanfiction writer, I can appreciate how much time people put into writing their chapters, so I like to support them by reblogging. It’s funny how art gets so much love (I see the same art reblogged in my feed all the time), and headcanons, and other game-related asks, but fanfiction gets ignored and actively shit on. It’s pretty sad, especially since all the problems that people tend to have with the game itself usually get fixed in fiction. Is it because there are no pretty pictures? *sigh*

Hello! I hope it's alright for me to ask, but do you have any advice for those who want to start a self-ship blog? Especially for someone who only really writes? I've been sitting on mine for a long time, and I really would love to start posting on it! And!! If it's okay, I would really love to gush a little, perhaps?
Well hello, hello, hello!
I’ll give this advice thing a try! I don’t have a self ship blog, this blog here is really like a mix of personal and self ship with a dash of Nick Blaemire enthusiasm, but YES, lemme see what I can come up with!! I’m very honored that you asked me! :D
First thing’s first, I’d start out making a promo post!! It’s basically just a short post where you state what you want people to call you, your age (if you’re comfortable ofc, you’re not obligated to put anything that you don’t want to!! it’s okay also if you just wanna put “i’m an adult” or “i’m a minor”), your pronouns, and your F/Os and whether or not you’re comfortable sharing. It’s eye-catching to add a gif at the beginning of a promo post, maybe of your F/O(s) or a character that you identify with. Whatever you want!! This of course isn’t like, the only way to make a promo post, this is just personally how I’d organize mine. You can also link others to your caard, or if you don’t have a caard, your About, FAQ, DNI/BYF, etc anything you’d want people to read and know about you and your ships! :]
The tag system!! Tumblr only tracks the first five tags you use on a post, so use that to your advantage. For example, if I post a fic of me and... hm, let’s say... my F/O Starscream, my first five tags will be #self insert, #self shipping, #transformers prime, #starscream, #tfp, it gets the main tags down. The rest, tumblr doesn’t track, so that’s where I’d organize the rest of my tags, this is where I’d put my ship tag #💕 Two falling stars ✨ since nobody tracks that tag except myself, so there’d be no point in making it the main tag. I always include self insert and self shipping into my tags because that’s what people in the community actively search for. You can also use tags such as #F/O community, #canon x oc, #self insert x canon, stuff like that!
Your theme!! Make sure your theme is easy to read, make the text big enough, make the colors easy on the eyes (like if you make your background light and your text light, it’ll be hard to read). Make sure your theme makes it easy to find your pages such as your Ask, About, F/O list, etc so people can easily access the info you want them to know!
Since you’re a writer, if you want your blog to gain some attention, I suggest making F/O imagines!! The community is always looking for new imagines to reblog, and this is also a great way to meet new people. The community LOVES ask games, too, you can make some ask games, like these for example! You can even do OC x Reader fics for people, if you’re feeling up for it! Also, when posting your fics, be sure to add trigger warnings if there are any at all. If my fic is longer than 10-15 lines of text, I’ll put two-thirds of it under a read-more. You can even add a small picture or gif of your F/O to your fic, so people see it and know who you’re writing about!
Don’t be afraid to approach others if you want to meet new people; some people may really want to talk to you, but they aren’t sure how to approach. If you don’t want to go jumping into someone’s DMs, you can start small by checking around for other self shippers with similar interests. Be sure to check people’s DNI first and whether or not they’re okay with sharing F/Os - if the stars align maybe you can send an ask!
Ask ppl about their ships! Ask people if they’d like to gush about their F/Os! Build a connection through mutual gushing if you get the opportunity + communication is super important. Send asks for ask games, reblog self ship art and fics (and add nice tags!! it’s so rare that anyone ever reblogs from content creators, so reblogging AND tagging it with nice compliments, even small ones such as “this is nice!” or “oh this is very cute! I like these colors!” or “oh I loved the tension build-up in this story!” can go a LONG way, I’ve actually messaged people who write nice tags on my stuff sometimes just to tell them thank you and we start up a friendship!), send love letters from their F/Os if you’re up for it, even if you’re worried that you’d be out of character if u didn’t know the F/O, people love getting a letter regardless! Just generally interacting w/ people and giving them the time of day when you’re able to goes a long way. I also recommend searching for any friendly discord servers if you wanna get to know other self shippers!
Most importantly, don’t push yourself too hard and there’s no need to stress. We’re all here to have fun. Be kind and courteous and you’ll attract some nice friends! I hope any of this can help in any way!!
