Eurobird was the mascot of the 37th Eurovision Song Contest held in 1992. An animation of Eurobird was shown between entries as part of the postcard section.

1992 Malmö - Number 21 - Sonja Lumme - "Rakkauden bulevardi"

Sonja is another alumna of the 1985 Eurovision final. She finished 9th with "Eläköön elämä" (Long Live Life) behind Kikki Danielsson. This was also her fourth attempt in the Finnish national selection and she finished 3rd of 10.

Unlike Kikki Danielsson's song, this one does feature an accordion. This one lurking behind her in the shadows of the stage. "Rakkauden bulevardi" (Boulevard of Love) is similarly a power schlager once again belted out with confidence. Sonja stands in front of the orchestra and kills it.

Her look is all pointy gold on black, once again with the big earrings almost hidden by her dramatic platinum bob. She's not sharing her spotlight with anyone let alone a random escapee from the orchestra with a squeezebox. I admire the poise, the look and the confidence even if it is something of a standard Eurovision number.

Nel 1987 (...) l’Urss ammise formalmente che era una balla, ma ormai nel Terzo Mondo aveva fatto ulteriore strada (...).        

L’Urss nel 1992 cessò di esistere, e (...) nel 1996 venne istituita la Fsb. L’anno dopo esce “Osnovy geopolitiki: geopoliticheskoe budushchee Rossii”: “Fondamenti di geopolitica -  Il futuro della Russia”. Adottato come libro di testo dall’Accademia militare  russa, lo firma  Aleksandr Dugin, un intellettuale misticheggiante e studioso del citato Julius Evola (...).

In qualche modo, la “quarta teoria politica” da Dugin teorizzata per “andare oltre le teorie politiche classiche della modernità” (...). “La quarta  teoria politica è antiliberale, anticomunista e antifascista allo stesso tempo” (in realtà è solo ferocemente antiliberale e nazional-socialista, cioè sintesi statalista nazimao, ndr), e allo spirito dei Protocolli si richiama chiaramente (diluendo) l’antisemitismo in un più ampio antioccidentalismo. (...)

Oltre all’ideologia, però, in questo libro in particolare Dugin propone una strategia, che aggiorna il repertorio zarista e sovietico all’epoca della rete. (L'uso di) strumenti asimmetrici: disinformazione, sovversione, guerra politica. Un concetto tipicamente da Ventesimo secolo come quello di competizione asimmetrica, (...) è messo assieme alle idee del generale Valery Gerasimov su come condurre la guerra nel XXI secolo. Risultato: “Una pratica non lineare di competere con l’Occidente solo nelle aree in cui la Russia si trova in vantaggio”. E la prima di esse era quella dell’informazione, per via del sistema autoritario che mette la Russia relativamente al riparo dalle contromosse dell’altra parte.

Però da qui (il rischio di ) una  escalation fuori controllo, su cui poi il Cremlino avrebbe avuto gravissimi problemi a tornare indietro (causando la dipendenza dalla Cina, ndr). E qua stiamo.

1992 Malmö - Number 18 - Kikka - "Parhaat puoleni"

"Parhaat puoleni" (My Best Features) got eliminated in the first round of the 1992 Finnish selection. I can't find the lyrics online, but given her reputation I would imagine they left little to the imagination as to what her best features may have been.

I was going to call her the Madonna of Finland, but apparently Kikka Sirén was marketed as the 'Samantha Fox of Finland', much to her disappointment. This appears to be her one and only attempt at getting into Eurovision and this after several years of success in the Finnish charts.

There's some weird early 'unsteadicam' shots by a cameraman with a camera on a stick allowing the production team to look at Kikka from a number of angles, something that doesn't seem to have been used for other acts in the same competition. Because of the darkness and transfer, I thought her two backing singers had forgotten their trousers, but they do appear to be wearing shorts on closer inspection.

The song rattles along from the outset while Kikka gives it all the attitude she can. I'm not sure I'd call this a schlager, more a pop statement by confident performer, even though she can't hit the final note. An early 'slay queen' having fun.
