This is for you or your followers - I'm trying to order more eri-shin (i seem to have lost my old ones) but my two usual vendors, Ohio Kimono (USA-based) and Kimono-Yukata Market are either out of stock or not selling them - do you or does anyone else know of a vendor that has them right now that's accessible to a US customer? Arigato!

Hi! You should be able to find some on ebay, but my first pick would be Etsy (as I am not USA based Etsy is easier for me) with KimonoPoncho or ChirimenBunny for example - both are super reliable sellers :) Do you guys have any other recommendations?

For people who don't know, eri shin are a kind of core you slide into your juban/kimono collar to make them stiffer so they look super pretty:

Emon 衣紋

Emon refers to the “popped collar” that is a feature on female kimono. The collar line is placed slightly down the back instead of directly at the shoulder line (shown in the sewing diagram above), leaving a gap between the collar and the nape of the back. This slight exposure is considered sexy in traditional Japanese culture, especially considering how conservative the rest of the kimono is. The kimono on geisha and maiko epitomize this ideal by exposing quite a bit of their back above the obi.

An eri-shin 衿芯 “collar stiffener” is slipped into the collar of the juban (underkimono) in order to achieve the round curve of the popped collar.

Some juban will have an “emon-nuki” 衣紋抜き , a strip down the back that aids in pulling the collar down. This is then covered by the kimono.

So... around September of 2012, I posted THIS on my blog. Today, I finally finished sewing on the bias binding for all of the other erishin that I'd cut. I started yesterday with finishing two of them and wrapped up the other five today. Some of them definitely came out better than others, but I'm the only one who's going to know which one is keeping my collars nice ;p
