“The Long Road” composed by Ēriks Ešenvalds, poetry by Paulīna Bārda Voces8 ----- I love, I love you night and day As a star in the distant sky And I mourn for this one thing alone That to love, our lifetime was so short, so short A long road to heaven's shining meadow And never could I reach its end But a longer road leads to your heart Which to me seems distant as a star High above, the arch of heaven bends And light so clear is falling. Like a flowering tree the world is blooming For the world, my heart both cries and laughs. -----

thanks for sending this! you picked some awesome ones :)
Songs to dance around in the kitchen to:
Louisiana Saturday Night by Mel McDaniel
Richest Man on Earth by Paul Overstreet
I Love A Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbitt
Don’t Tread on Me by We the Kingdom (this is a vast departure from the vibes of the others but I have definitely danced in the kitchen with my sisters to this :)
Brother by Needtobreathe (same goes for this one)
Songs for watching the sunset over the ocean:
Hallelujahs by Chris Rice
If I Stand by Rich Mullins
Sometimes by Step by Rich Mullins
How Can I Keep From Singing? by Enya
Ain’t Nobody Got it Easy by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors
Crossing the Bar by The Longest Johns
Songs that make me think of @loveliness-and-prattle:
I Will Praise Him, Still by Fernando Ortega
The Sower’s Song by Andrew Peterson
The Glory of the Father by Egil Hovland
Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre
I Shall Not Want by Audrey Assad
The Call by Regina Spektor (you knew this one was coming :)
A Benediction by The Arcadian Wild
Psalm 45 (Fairest of All) by Shane and Shane
Songs I’ve performed before and still adore:
Die Armut So Gott from Bach’s cantata 91 (I sang the lower part)
Vedro con mio diletto from Vivaldi’s Giustino (just sang this in front of people for the first time last night!)
Never Die Young by The Arcadian Wild (sang this at the wedding of two of my dearest friends with a full band backup!)
also basically any choral piece I’ve sung before but especially - Falling Into Mercy, Bring Us, O Lord, Hallelujah, A Silence Haunts Me, Unclouded Day, How Can I Keep From Singing, For Unto Us, O Magnum Mysterium
Songs I would kill for a chance to perform:
O Salutaris Hostia by Eriks Esenvalds (I got into the final round of solo tryouts in choir with the lower part, but didn’t get it)
Erbarme dich from Matthew’s Passion by Bach (I only know the first part so I’d have a lot of work to do ;)
Really any folk song I enjoy? esp if I get to sing harmony! I have never gotten to try that out in public with someone else and instruments, but it’s the majority of what I enjoy singing along to.
Also anything from Messiah! I don’t think I have the vocal caliber to be a soloist, but to learn the whole thing and perform it would be a dream come true!

I’ve been listening to Only in Sleep by Eriks Esenvalds (and crying) so this is what you get:
Triton was in their apartment when Percy finally broke free from his bedsheets and reintroduced himself to the living room.
“You’re late.” Triton stewed angrily. “If a person can be late to something they refuse to attend.”
On a good day, Percy might have snapped out a sarcastic response, or cursed and apologized for forgetting that he was supposed to be at his father’s palace today with his brother. Instead he just stared.
“Jason’s dead.” he croaked.
Triton turned to Percy and looked at him with his ever-calculating eyes. Percy might have commented on his brother’s startling similarity to Athena if the comment weren’t as good as a one-way ticket to disintegration town. Percy’s relationship with his brother was improved from what it had been a year or so ago, but Triton still had a way of re-examining all of Percy’s statements, looking for an insult. It always took the god a moment to sludge through his old bitterness and warm up to Percy before they could have a decent conversation.
Apparently Percy’s rumpled appearance, unwashed hair, two-day cultivation of B.O., and swollen eyes weren’t enough to offend Triton, and he traded out his prickled look for one of tired resignation.
They were silent for a moment.
“There is a tradition among our people.” Triton spoke like he were dragging himself to the point against his will. He eyed Percy, grit his teeth, sighed, and let go. “A song that we sing to honor our dead.”
‘Our dead’ he had said. Percy waited. His vision fuzzed over a little. He was too tired and uncomfortable to wipe the source away.
“I’m going to teach it to you sooner or later anyway, I suppose.” Triton spoke. He peered behind Percy. “But the two of you had better pay attention. I know your little demigod brains have trouble with that.”
“Both of us?”
Annabeth had padded out of the bedroom somewhere during their limited conversation.
“It’s a choral piece.” Triton spoke. “It’s supposed to be and it would be an embarrassment to our tradition to do it otherwise, so yes.”
He stood. “But we will need more voices.”
“We.” Percy’s voice sounded like it was coming from somewhere else. Annabeth crept up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waste, the sweater she was wearing (his, he thought distantly), rubbing softly against his arms and grounding him a little.
“Yes, ‘We’.” Triton forged on. “Tyson will be there, but I doubt either of you will be able to carry a proper tune. You’re so emotional. You’ll muddle the Greek.”
Triton stared like he was waiting for Percy to interject. After a moment, Annabeth shifted behind him and spoke quietly, “That’s very thoughtful, Triton. I’m sure the Romans will do their best.”
“The Romans can do as they like.” Triton stated. “When the House of Poseidon mourns, as does the sea. We will have enough voices.”
Percy came a bit out of his haze. “What?”
“You really know nothing about our tradition.” Triton scoffed. “The least you could do is try to pretend to know what it means to be the son of the immortal king of the sea.”
Percy blinked. For a second he could see the beginnings of a smile on his brother’s face. “I do my best.”
“Well, do someone else’s best next time.”
Triton made his way for the door.
“Prepare yourself. Join me for lessons when you’re ready.”
“What?” Percy asked. “You mean—”
“I already told you you were late.” Triton turned back to him. “And I refuse to use these stupid legs any longer. Take a shower, get out of this tiny mortal prison cell you consider a house.”
The god peered around Percy again to look at Annabeth. “Try to get him there with a sense of presentability.”
And then he was gone.
Annabeth stepped out from behind him. “Did your brother just—”
“Invite a daughter of Athena to Poseidon’s palace? Yeah. I heard that, too.”
Annabeth brushed the tears off her face and reached up to brush away his. She pulled some tissues out of her pockets and offered him one. Then she tucked herself into his side, leaning her weight on him to guide him to the bathroom.
“Come on. Time to make you ‘presentable’.”
They shuffled their way across the room.
Annabeth tucked herself further against him.
“I’m really glad he likes you.”
Percy almost found it in himself to smile.

Today my song selection for my musical journey is Ēriks Ešenvalds - Only in Sleep.
"Only in sleep I see their faces,  Children I played with when I was a child, Louise comes back with her brown hair braided, Annie with ringlets warm and wild. Only in sleep Time is forgotten — What may have come to them, who can know? Yet we played last night as long ago, And the doll-house stood at the turn of the stair. The years had not sharpened their smooth round faces, I met their eyes and found them mild — Do they, too, dream of me, I wonder, And for them am I too a child?"
Makes me think. Everyone’s narrative and life story is as complex as my own. And every single person that I have met has shaped mine, and mine theirs. I don’t know where most people I have graced with my presence have gone, but I wish them well. I strive to be kind to those I know and love, as well as those I do not know and love. I care about them and hope the best for them, as well as you that are reading this, whoever you are.
