It’s Flynn’s turn to decide date night. It should never be Flynn’s turn to decide date night.

He chooses things like this.

Alan peers over his glasses at Flynn with a familiar mix of incredulity and resignment. Lora, meanwhile, is a knot of limbs in the recliner to his right—and absolutely beaming.

“You can’t think this is a good idea,” Alan says to her. He adds a plaintive hon as if it’ll change her mind.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it’s a fun idea.” There’s a spark of mischief about her that only catches around Flynn and his recklessness. Alan’s seen an awful lot of it the past few months, since he agreed to this… arrangement.

Flynn stuffs something sweet in his mouth and says, “It’s abandoned, man, not a big deal.”

“Abandoned because you put them out of business,” Lora mutters.

“I did not. They’re an hour away!” Flynn begins a tally on his fingers. “Their concession stand was a joke. Their soda was always flat. Their floors were always dirty. And I pay my employees better.”

Lora rolls her eyes. “You’d pay them in candy if you could.”

“Who doesn’t like candy—”

“If it’s abandoned, then why do you even want to go?” Alan asks. They turn to him in unison, dumbfounded. “What?”

Flynn flops onto the couch next to him. “Gonna pretend you didn’t ask that.”

“Because exploring the abandoned is fascinating.” The stars in Lora’s eyes make Alan’s heart race. “Something that was loved or useful left vacant, open to the elements and forgotten. A reminder that nothing lasts, not really.”

“And there’s some stuff I wanna get.” Flynn rearranges himself and drapes an arm behind Alan like it’ll win him over, and if he thinks that’s gonna work again—

“Wait, what?” Alan looks to Lora to see if she knew.

She smiles sheepishly. “It’s all heavy stuff.”

Thinking about how Flynn’s loft is absolutely covered in signs. Street signs, window signs etc. this is his #1 drunk activity. He has a wrench on him he just- he just steals signs.

Many a time he wakes up on Alan and Lora’s couch cradling whatever treasure he found the night before. No matter how Alan tries he’s never going to put it back. Finders keepers.
