// initial summary: although your new neighborhood was a bit shady and the apartment elevator made an eerie sound whenever it'd start up, it was all you could afford. move in day proved to be better than expected when you caught sight of your new neighbor. her auburn hair and green eyes seemed to be all the proof that you needed, to know that this new chapter of your life would be worth paying attention to and not just skimming over. //
━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━
an unguarded mind, leads to untainted thoughts.
it's been a week since you moved in across the hall and ellie hasn't been able to get you off her mind. your hair, your skin, your eyes, the way you spoke. it all swarmed her mind like bees to an open jar of honey.
cocky doesn't look good on pretty girls. a small smirk played on her lips as she recalled the snarky comment. ellie enjoyed making you nervous, but she enjoyed the way you bit back, even more.
the girl rose from her couch and went to the kitchen. she made some peanut butter toast and poured herself a glass of chocolate milk. whenever she'd get these kinds of thoughts about a girl, she'd try using food as a way to distract herself. usually, it worked, but in other cases, it failed, it failed miserably, kind of like how it was failing right now.
ellie grabbed her phone and thought about calling the girl she was currently ‘seeing’. she looked at the caller id as she bounced the idea around. right as she was about to click the 'call' button, she heard a clash of keys drop on the floor, followed with a long groan. ellie, wanting to know if that was your or not, walked over to her front door and opened it.
there, the chick from 512 was met with the sight of you in your dirty scrubs and your hair in a sloppy bun. your keys sat right in front of your smudged tennis shoes as you began to bang your forehead on your door in frustration. worried, ellie walked up to you. right as you were about to go for your 4th head bang, ellie placed her hand against the spot that you were abusing yourself with.
you slightly jumped back at the sudden skin to skin contact. "shit."
this was a new sight for ellie. she's only ever seen you three times since you moved in. the first time was when you made your snarky comment, the second time was when you were coming home from grocery shopping and the third was when you were getting in jesse's car. all those times you looked dolled up and clean, which never helped the consuming thoughts she had about you.
"are you okay?" the auburn-haired girl asked. you wanted to lie and say you were fine but the events that occurred at work today completely drained you. without even trying to look like you weren't on the brick of death, you simply shook your head. "what happened?"
your shaky hands went to brush some hair out of your face as you tried finding the words. ellie realized just how bad she had it for you when she still found you tempting in your filthy state.
"just another hellish day at work is all." you sighed.
"guessing from your attire, i'd say you were a nurse?" ellie questioned.
"bingo." you confirmed. "i love my job, i love it more than i love most things in life but sometimes it can get so overwhelming."
"i could only imagine." ellie sympathized. "where do you work?”
"saint martin memorial hospital." you answered.
"ouch." ellie winced. "i've been there a couple of times and it's always pure chaos in the e.r."
"ugh, i know." you groaned. "and that's where i got assigned today. my coworkers and i call it satan's lair of torment."
ellie chuckled. "well, i'm sorry you had to go through that." she then bent down to pick up your keys. "if it makes you feel better, i work at a warehouse," she came back up. "so the closes i've ever been to saving someone's life was smacking the new guys hand out of the balers opening."
you laughed, imagining the scenerio. "why would he put his hand in it?"
"when we were throwing away the discarded cardboard boxes, he accidentally flung his phone inside too." ellie said.
your hand flew over your mouth. "oh no, what happened to his phone."
"it go smashed into a thousand little pieces." ellie chuckled.
you started laughing again as everything was 10 times funnier to you when you were tired. ellie couldn't help the way her smile grew at the sound of your laughter. "that fucking sucks."
"yeah, but it was fine. my um- my dad, he owns the warehouse, so i was able to get him to compensate the dude for the phone." ellie shared.
"oh, how nice of you." you said with a hint of exaggeration.
"i try." ellie said, matching your tone of voice.
you chuckled as you took your hair out from its messy bun. "but that's so cool that you work in a warehouse. it explains why you're so toned." you quickly messaged your scalp as a way to loosen up your hair.
"you're not too bad yourself." ellie smirked.
you scoffed as you dropped your arms to your side. "don't ruin the moment by doing that."
"doing what?" ellie asked.
"acting all cocky and flirty." you pointed out.
"what're you talking about?" ellie continued to act clueless. "this is just me, it's who i am." ellie crossed her arms. her flexed upper arms caused you to swallow the lump in your throat.
"no, the ellie i was just joking with was you." you then gestured to her. "this is you trying to do- do, i don't even know what."
ellie looked at your name tag and then back at your stern face. "(y/n) (y/l/n). i like that. it rolls off the tongue nicely." she then took out a cigar from her pocket and lit it.
you tried to not let the fact that she disregarded everything you said, get to you. "well, i'm going to bed." you said as you tried unlocking your door.
"aw, come on, i was just teasing, (y/n)." ellie chuckled as she slightly turned her head to the side to blow the smoke out of her lungs. "here, take a drag. it'll help you with your stress." she held out the cigarette.
you pushed her hand away, causing a tingle of excitement to rush in between the two of you. "i don't smoke. it's bad for your lungs."
"like at all?" ellie questioned. "not even marijuana?"
you shook your head but then stopped. "well hold on, mj is different." ellie lightly laughed at how your demeanor changed when it came to the hallucinating herb. "mj is actually helpful when it comes to the whole anxiety thing."
"i can't argue with you there." ellie shrugged. she then noticed the bandage on your left hand. "what happened there?" she pointed to it.
your eyes trailed over the palm of your hand and you rolled your eyes, remembering the incident. "a 40 something year old man came into the e.r. with a knife, announcing to the entire room that he was the antichrist and that the end was near." you said. "he then flung the knife at one of my patients and i instinctively put up my hand up to block it."
ellie sat the cigarette between her lips as she began to clap. "and she gets even hotter." you scratched the back of your head, trying not to blush. she thinks i'm hot?
"what happened to the guy after?" ellie asked.
she honestly couldn’t give a fuck less about the guy's wellness. the auburn-haired girl could just tell how much tired you were growing by the second out here and knew you'd be wanting to go to bed soon.
"security tackled him and held him down until the cops arrived." you held back a yawn, causing your eyes to get watery.
ah shit, ellie began to feel bad for keeping you out here just so that she could spend more time listening to you talk. "are you free tomorrow night?"
"yeah?" you answered in a questioning tone. "why?"
"well, i'm sure you have more crazy nursing stories to share and i want nothing more than to spend monday night listening to all of them." ellie answered in the most non-chalant attitude.
"hmm..." you thought about it. "as friends?"
"definitely, yeah." ellie assured.
"okay, fine." you smiled. "my house at 6?"
"make it 5." her eyes sparkled as she took another drag from her cigar.
"alright then, tomorrow at 5." you said as you opened your door. "don't be late, goodnight.”
"goodnight.” ellie replied as she began to back away, and with one more exchange of smiles, you two went back inside your respective apartments.

// initial summary: the day after you officially moved into your new college dorm, you decide to take a look around the school, getting familiar to the clubs that they have to offer as well as the libraries, classes and cafeteria. you come back to your dorm in hopes of taking a shower and sitting in quiet solitude, but your plans are disrupted by your new roommate moving in… ellie williams. //
━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━
“10/10.” you practically devoured the deep-friend oreos that were in front of you. “they put their whole heart and soul into these greasy ass cookies.”
ellie chuckled at your ‘greasy ass cookies’ comment. “couldn’t agree more.”
after you were done, you took a couple of sips of your slurpee and stared at the girl across from you. it was dark out now, the only thing lighting up the scenery were the rides, stands and tall post lights. ellie has made today feel like a dream. you guys did in fact go on every ride, even when ellie wanted to coward out, she still went for the sake of watching you glow with excitement.
“thanks for today, el.” you said as she was midway through her oreos. “i needed it.”
she looked at you with a cheeky smile. “no problem. i hated seeing you so down earlier. people like you don’t deserve to feel like that.”
“so don’t people like you.” you reminded her. “if you don’t mind me asking, whatever happened to kat? haven’t heard from her in awhile.”
ellie’s smile dropped. “um, i got a restraining order against her like the week after she showed up at our dorm. my dad suggested it’d be for the best. kat had always been sort of a loose cannon, better to be safe than sorry.”
your tongue cleaned the food stuck in your teeth as you thought about what ellie said. “i’m proud of you. that must’ve been really hard, especially considering the amount of time you and kat were together.”
“yeah, it was…” ellie nodded, the sounds of others excited chatter and rollarcoasters swooshing around filled the empty space of silence between the two of you.
“i- um- earlier, when i was upset,-“ you tried finding the words to be open with her in the way she’s been open with you. “my mom called me a few days ago telling me that my dad was back in town and he wanted to see me. understand that my dad wasn’t really there for me growing up, he left when i was fairly young for some ‘woman’ who was barely legal. and even when he was there, he wasn’t the greatest father.”
ellie’s eyes didn’t leave yours. she wanted to take in all that you had to share as this was the first time you’ve ever really talked about your family. “sure, he would spoil me rotten and shower me with love, but only when he felt like it. when he would get angry, all he would see was red. there’d be times when i’d pretend to be asleep when my parents would fight. they were so loud, so angry and so terrifying to hear as a 5-year-old little girl.” ellie thought about how you reacted when she told you about kat. you were so understanding and so gentle with her. you didn’t push her for answers or lash out on her when she froze up.
“i mean, they still are, 13 years later, at the ripe age of 18.” you corrected yourself as your eyes watered. “that shit still haunts me, and for some reason my mom just wants me to get over it and visit ‘home’ before winter break, or more like visit before my father has to go back to his other family and spend christmas with them.”
ellie got up from her seat and moved to sit beside you. she was never really good with words and decided to bite back her tongue, not wanting to risk saying something stupid. instead, she wrapped her arms around you and pulled you close. you faintly smiled into her shirt as you hugged her waist.
once she was able to find what she hoped would be the rights words, she spoke. “i’m sorry about your dad.” ellie then placed a kiss on top of your head. “he doesn’t deserve to see who you’ve become.”
your smile grew as you wiped away your tears. you pulled away to look into ellie’s comforting dark green eyes. your eyes trailed over to the mini painting of a tiger on ellie’s cheek. you drew a thumb over it as you cupped her face. “how do you do that?”
“do what?” ellie asked, slightly leaning into your hand.
“how do you make me feel so safe and loved?” you asked. “how do you do that?”
ellie shrugged with a crooked smile. “i’ve been told i'm a lot like my dad, and he's always been really good at making me feel that way. i guess that’s where i get it from.”
you chuckled and pulled your hand away. “yeah, maybe that’s what it is. though, i would have to meet your dad to actually confirm this.”
“oh, my dad would love you.” she said.
“really?” you asked.
“yeah, trust me.” ellie brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear, 'forgetting' to mention the fact that she’s already told joel all about her roommate and that he already loved her. you smiled, feeling very flattered. “but come on, the carnivals about to close and i want to try to win that big ass stuffed rocket ship.”
you grabbed yours and ellie’s trash and threw it in one of the garbage cans on your way to the stand. the game seemed simple enough, you had 10 rings with 5 bottles in front of you. in order to win the big stuffed rocket ship, you’d have to throw a ring around each bottle with the 10 that you received. unfortunately, for ellie, things were not panning out as she hoped. “what the fuck, man? i played volleyball in high school so i know my aim isn’t shit.”
“let me try.” you grabbed the ten rings from her hand and tried remembering a technique an old friend taught you. you took a deep breath in and out as you closed one eye. the key was to throw the rings slowly and slightly off the center of the bottle. you faintly flicked your wrist a few times before carefully and slowly throwing the ring. “yay!” you cheered as it landed.
“one down, four to go.” the host at the stand said. “don’t get too excited.”
ellie gave the man a dirty look for trying to rain down on your parade. “yeah, okay sunshine.” she snarked.
you smiled at her comment before successfully doing it again. the host just rolled his eyes and wished to be eating a corn dog instead of listening to the preppy cheers that escaped your lips.
you got more anxious as you successfully landed it again, ellie usually failed after the two-bottle mark so now the pressure was really on. the fourth try, you missed, making the host smirk. he only had that one life sized rocket ship, which was the main attraction to his stand. no way did he want you winning it. you tried again and to no avail, failed.
ellie, just as excited and nervous as you were, placed her hands on your shoulders. she pushed her lips against the side of your ear and whispered words of encouragement to you. “you got this, (y/n). you’re so close, like it’s literally right there. the rocket is yours, just focus.”
your heartbeat was racing at how close she was and how warm her breath felt against your ear. needing to see those piercing green eyes that filled you with an immense amount of love, you turned your neck to face her. your faces were barely an inch away from each other. your eyes flickered from her eyes to her lips before placing a kiss on her cheek.
were friends allowed to kiss each other on the cheek? if not, i don’t really care. you thought to yourself.
a wave of electricity shot from ellie’s cheek, and a slight smirk overtook her lips when you turned back to the bottles. with the thought of wanting to win the stuffed toy for ellie, you were able to successfully land a ring around the fourth bottle. the game host gulped the lump in his throat, praying to whatever god he believed in that you would, eventually, fail miserably.
ellie happily wrapped her arms around your waist and dug her face in the crock of your neck. “one more, (y/n).” you chuckled at how giddy ellie was. “one more and that rocket ship is yours.”
your next two tries went horrible as you failed. ellie’s arms wrapped around you tighter as she decided to return the kiss you gave her on the cheek by placing one at the bottom of your neck. “just breathe.” she whispered. the kiss she left you and the heat of her breath against your skin was enough to help you relax. you took a long and deep breath in and then out as you focused your aim. with a single slow and careful flick, the ring successfully landed on the last bottle.
you excitedly turned to ellie and wrapped your arms around her neck and just like a cheesy 2000s movie, she lifted you off the ground and spun you in circles. the game host face palmed at the realization of someone beating his game and winning the rocket ship.
“that’s my girl.” ellie smiled as she placed you back down.
my girl the phrase bounced around your head like a racket on the tennis court. when you turned around to look at the game host, you smiled proudly. “one human sized rocket ship please!”
with much to his dismay, the game host detached the stuffed toy from it’s hook and handed it to you. you gave the toy a slight squeeze before turning around to face an equally, but probably even more, excited ellie. “here.” you held out the rocket ship.
“what? for me?” ellie asked.
“duh, for you.” a chuckle left your mouth. “i couldn’t have done this without my cheerleader.”
ellie took the toy and laughed. “isn’t she just the best?” ellie snarkingly asked the game host.
he just rolled his eyes and turned around to set back up his game. ellie wrapped an arm around your neck and pulled you closer as the two of you began walking away. “no, but seriously, you’re like my favorite person in the world right now.”
your arms snaked around her waist as you looked up at her with a toothy smile. “i feel so honored.”
✩───────────✩──────────✩
you and ellie were now back in your dorm. you had both already showered and changed into your most comfortable set of pajamas while the big rocket ship sat tall in between you and ellie.
"i love the rocket ship but i need to find a new place for it." you heard ellie say as she got up. "i hate how i can't see your face."
"awh," you teased her. "you love me."
"probably." ellie half-heartedly joked. the auburn-haired girl was able to make space in between her desk and dresser for the stuffed toy.
once she got back in bed and faced you, it still did not feel like enough. she sighed annoyingly, wanting to so desperately feel your arms around her again. "is something wrong?" you asked.
"no." she said in an unconvincing tone.
you furrowed your eyebrows. "ellie..." your dragged out the last 'e' in her name.
"forget about it, (y/n), it's not that big of a deal." ellie shrugged off. "just go to sleep."
it's not that big of a deal, my ass. you thought to yourself. she clearly felt bothered by something and you being you, could not let it go. "ellie." you whispered. her eyes were closed and you wondered weather the girl had already fallen asleep. "ellie." you whispered again
ellie sighed annoyingly as she turned around so her back was facing you. you were making this a lot harder than it had to be for her. "rude." you muttered. you tried going to sleep, but couldn't as your brain nagged you with thoughts of how ellie might be feeling.
without giving it much thought, you got out of bed and laid beside ellie. a smile crept up on the girl's lips when she felt the bed dip and you get under the covers. instinctively, you turned to your side to spoon your roommate. "can't ignore me like this." your cool and minty breath against her neck, sent shivers down her spine. you noticed and bit back a smirk.
she turned around to face you and wrapped her own arm around your waist, pulling you closer to her. she smirked as she did so. realizing this is what she wanted, you chuckled. "this is what you were making a big deal out of?" your faces were just centimeters away; the closeness made your stomach feel as if you were still on a roller-coaster. "you could've just asked me."
ellie's heartbeat quickened as she tried everything in her power to resist closing the small gap that lingered so delicately between the two of you. her hand slid under your shirt. she started drawing small circles on your back with her thumb. "would you have said yes?"
your hand fisted a handful of her shirt as you shimmed a knee in between her legs. this was you’re way of compensating over the fact that you couldn't kiss her as she gently brushed her thumb over your chilled and exposed skin. "good point." your chest felt heavy as you leaned in to kiss the tip of her nose. you then nuzzled your face below her chin. "goodnight, ellie."
"goodnight, (y/n)." she said before grabbing your hip and pulling you closer.

// authors note: how are we feeling about this? be honest. i personally love it, writing the tension was so much fun, especially the cuddling scene. ugh, so cute. i went back and fourth with writing the parental issues since i understand not everyone will be able to relate but i really wanted to give (y/n) more depth so i decided to add that in. if you really don’t like it, i don’t mind you pretending like (y/n) shared something entirely different instead of the parental issues. it’s your imagination, go crazy!! anyway, i hope you guys are having a great day and if not i am sending my best wishes! //

━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━
it's been four weeks. four whole weeks since you last felt ellie's lips on yours. the tension between you two felt like a heat wave. you could barely think, your skin burned, and the air became all too difficult to breathe. you weren't sure how exactly you made it this far without giving in.
your eyes followed along with your book as you sat under the big oak tree on campus. despite it almost being october, it was warm out today. you decided to take advantage of the nice weather and read outside. not being able to really process the words that you were reading, you set the book aside and sighed. you looked up at the clouds, trying to figure out what different shapes the masses created.
strawberry… pencil… heart… and a man holding a little girls hand. you shut your eyes and cursed at your brain to stop playing tricks with you. you opened your eyes and analyzed the clouds again.
lollipop… cat… trumpet and two faces screaming at each other. with a frustrated sigh, you looked back down at your book and left your post at the tree.
back in your dorm, ellie sat on her bed, sketching. whenever ellie had free time, that's what you'd see her doing, either that or playing the guitar. although, she never let you see more than the occasional quick sketch, she always let you hear her playing the guitar and even let you put in requests. finishing up on her drawing, she held it up to blow away the led residue.
just then, her phone began to ring.
after checking the caller id, the corners of her lips slightly raised. ellie immediately answered it. "dad, hey."
"hey, dino." joel spoke. "i was calling to to thank you for the birthday gift."
"when are you going to stop calling me that." ellie groaned.
"does never sound good to you?" joel sarcastically responded.
"ugh, whatever. just know, you’re one more birthday away from being put in diapers." ellie sassed.
joel laughed. "is that a threat, dino?"
"think of it as a promise, old man." ellie joked. the daughter and father duo laughed before returning to their conversation.
"but seriously, i love the power drill set." joel said. "i've been getting the jobs done ten times as faster with this thing."
ellie smiled but bit her lip when she was reminded of the fact that her dad was still working, day and night in order to send her to school. ever since joel took 8-year-old ellie in, she couldn't help but feel like a burden to the man. he was just too good to her. "well, i'm glad to hear that."
"if you don't mind me asking, where'd you get the money for it? this isn't one of those cheap 20 dollar sets you get from walmart, these are high quality, meaning it would've had to cost you at least a hundred or so bucks." joel questioned.
"don't worry about it." ellie replied.
"dino, don't tell me you got a part time job." joel sighed into the phone. "what did i tell you? i wanted you to focus on your schoolwork and if you needed money that i'd send you some."
"dad, please, i don't want a lecture right now." ellie said. "i like working, okay? it's a nice break from school, i swear to you, it's not getting in the way of school."
"but-"
ellie cut him off. "dad, please."
"alright..." the man sighed. "at least promise me that you'll leave as soon as it starts getting in the way of your education?"
"i promise, dad." ellie assured him. some muffled hollering paired with the sound of an excavator, interrupted their conversation.
"i'll be right there!" joel shouted away from his phone before turning back to his blackberry. "i gotta go. have a good day and don't stress yourself out too much."
"okay, dad."
"love you, dino."
"love you too, dad, bye."
"bye."
once the phone call ended, ellie got up from her bed and walked over to her desk. she took one more look at her latest sketch and smiled. once she heard the door open, she shut her sketchbook and placed it inside the bottom drawer of the desk. "hey, el." you almost muttered before dropping your bag on top of your dresser.
"hey, (y/n)." ellie responded, when she noticed how sad you looked, she crossed her arms. "is everything alright?"
you turned around, leaning your back into the dresser. you tried lying and saying you were fine but you just couldn't find the energy to do so. "no, i’m not."
"do you wanna tell me what's wrong?" ellie took a step closer to you. she rarely ever saw you like this. you were so good at masking your anger and sadness. last week, ellie literally saw you smile through the pain of receiving a horrible grade for a test that you studied your ass off for.
"no." you shook your head. if there was one thing that you and ellie had in common, was that of feeling like a burden.
"right..." ellie said. "is there anything i can do to make you feel better?"
you thought about it for a second. your eyes trailed around the room and a small smile formed on your lips when you saw her guitar. you walked over to her side of the room, grabbed the instrument and then held it out to her. "born to die by lana del rey." ellie took the guitar from you with a matching smile. "did you actually learn it?"
"maybe." ellie shrugged. "you'll have to be the judge of that." ellie didn't want to admit it but every time you requested a song that she didn't know, she'd spend hours trying to learn it. she just loved the way your face lit up at the sound of her fingers strumming the guitar to your favorite songs.
ellie took a seat on her desk chair as you did the same on your own. she propped up the instrument and readied her hands and fingers. after a quiet and barely audible countdown left ellie's lips, she began playing.
once she started, you felt the knot of anxiety that had formed at the pit of your stomach earlier, slowly come undone. you noticed she played the first few cords a couple of times, almost like she was preparing herself for something. without warning, ellie began singing. "feet don't fail me now, take me to the finish line. oh, my heart, it breaks every step that i take, but i'm hoping at the gates, they'll tell me that you're mine." by now, the knot had completely come undone. her voice sounded so pretty and blissful. you've never heard a voice as gentle and beautiful as hers.
"walking through the city streets, is it by mistake or design? i feel so alone on a friday night. can you make it feel like home, if i tell you you're mine? it's like I told you, honey,"
ellie stared down at her fingers strumming the guitar, she was too nervous to see your reaction. she continued to sing, feeling every strum, every melody and every lyric. "don't make me sad, don't make me cry, sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough, i don't know why. keep making me laugh, let's go get high. the road is long, we carry on, try to have fun in the meantime."
you were too captivated by her voice to filter yourself as your eyes watered up. "come and take a walk on the wild side. let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain. you like your girls insane. so, choose your last words, this is the last time, 'cause you and i, we were born to die."
ellie played a few more chords before coming to a stop. her cheeks were flushed as she placed her guitar down. she grabbed her thighs and looked up at you, ready to take whatever negative criticism you had to throw at her. "holy shit, ellie." a few tears escaped from your (y/c/e) eyes.
"please tell me you liked it." ellie almost begged.
"liked it?" you questioned. "ellie, i'm fucking crying. i loved it!" you then got out of your seat to pull her in for a hug. you wrapped your arms around her neck and pulled her head close, up against your stomach. with a smile of content and relief, ellie tightly wrapped her arms around your lower waist.
ellie slowly got out of her seat to hug you properly. she took in the milliseconds that passed as she held you in her arms. she missed this, she ached for this. she wants so desperately to never let you go. here, in this position, it was perfect. it was enough for her. it was more than enough and though she was the one who ended things, she wished that this was enough for you too. even if it was just for now.
she needed you to wait for her.
✩───────────✩──────────✩
"i don't get it, why am i blindfolded." you asked as ellie's car came to a stop.
"because it's a surprise." ellie answered. "you can take off your seatbelt now."
once you took it off, ellie got out of the car and jogged around to your side. she opened the door, helped you out and then led you to wherever it was she wanted to take you. you held on tightly to her hands, not wanting to trip or fall. as you inched closer, you could hear the sounds of laughter, games and loud swooshing noises. "okay, stop." ellie stood behind you and carefully removed the blindfold.
your face lit up when you realized where ellie had taken you and why she asked you to wear shorts or pants instead of your usual dress. "the carnival."
"surprise." ellie smiled.
"you didn't have to do this ellie." you looked over at her. this was probably the nicest thing anyone's ever done for you.
"but i wanted to." ellie shrugged. she'd do anything to see you get your smile back.
"but my bag, you told me to leave my bag at home." your eyebrows furrowed.
"yeah, 'cause today is on me." ellie said.
"oh, c'mon." you protested. "i can't let you do that."
"too bad, we're already here." ellie shrugged as she grabbed one of your hands and began pulling you towards the entrance. "and i'm not leaving until we go on every single ride and try every deep-fried food this place has to offer."
"fine, but if i puke on you, don't blame me." the two of you laughed as you walked inside.

part four, here
content warning: explicit language, use of marijuana, sexual thoughts & acts, toxic ex-girlfriend i think that’s all…
// initial summary: the day after you officially moved into your new college dorm, you decide to take a look around the school, getting familiar to the clubs that they have to offer as well as the libraries, classes and cafeteria. you come back to your dorm in hopes of taking a shower and sitting in quiet solitude, but your plans are disrupted by your new roommate moving in… ellie williams. //
━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━
"ellie... ellie..." you murmured. "the door."
"just ignore it." ellie whispered against your chest. the banging on the door only continued and seemed to have gotten louder.
ellie felt amazing all over you but you just couldn't ignore the angry knocks coming from the door. you grabbed ellie's shoulder and used all your power to pull her slightly off of you. "we need to get the door. our housemates are going to hate us if we ignore it." ellie got off the floor first and then pulled you up.
the auburn-haired girl sighed with pure annoyance as she re-tied her hair and threw back on her grey hoodie. "i swear, this better be fucking good."
ellie followed behind you as you opened the door. on the other side was revealed to be a slightly shorter girl with jet black hair. she had short bangs while her hair stopped right below her earlobe. she was also dressed in all black and wore a very angry expression. although, you didn't recognize her, the girl beside you did. "kat?"
with a confused expression, you looked at ellie then at the supposed kat. "ellie."
"what the hell are you doing here? how did you even find me?" ellie looked almost scared. your confused expression morphed into a worried one as you noticed how tense ellie got.
kat didn't answer any of her questions, instead she looked over at you, picking you apart with her eyes and sloppily putting you back together. the enraged girl scoffed with a slight smirk when she noticed the multiple hickies on your neck. before you knew it, kat had stormed inside of the dorm. ellie followed quickly behind her and grabbed her arm. "i'm going to ask you again, what the fuck are you doing here?"
after you shut the door, you flickered on the lights. "oh, that's better." kat ignored ellie. "i like having the lights on when my girlfriends alone in a room with another bitch."
your heart sunk. "girlfriend?" you turned to ellie, completely ignoring the insult kat threw at you.
"no, no." ellie shouted then turned back to kat. "not girlfriend. we broke up. we broke up a week and half ago!"
you internally sighed in relief at ellie's clarification but were still anxious over the situation. the kat girl continued to shoot daggers into you as she spoke to ellie. "you call leaving someone a shitty breakup letter before moving all the way across the fucking country a real break up. mhh, no we have unresolved business."
to calm yourself, you walked past the two girls and picked up the blunt ellie forgot to put out. you took a long drag of it as ellie rolled her eyes at kat. "i left you a letter because every time i would try to break up with you in person, you'd shoot me down and manipulate me into staying with you."
you leaned back onto ellie's nightstand, feeling an overwhelming amount of stress. "yeah ellie, because i loved you, i still do." kat admitted. "when you love someone, you fight for them."
you frowned. love. ellie had some serious unfinished business with her ex-girlfriend and still choose to make a move on you. was i just going to be a rebound? a hit it and quit it kind of deal? were her feelings for me not as real as my feelings for her? the thoughts that ran ramped in your head made you feel like absolute shit. ellie looked at you, her eyes filled with tears.
ellie forced her eyes back at kat and she spoke in a low and shaky tone. "please kat, leave. i don't want you here."
"i am not fucking leaving." kat cursed. "not without you at least." you noticed the look of fear and distress in ellie's eyes as she stood there. she was frozen, unable to speak or move.
"this is my fucking dorm too." you spoke up and took one more drag of the blunt before putting it out on the nightstand. "get the fuck out." the smoke escaped your lips as you spoke.
"excuse me?" kat turned to face you. "who the fuck do you think you are?"
"the bitch that's throwing you out of her dorm." you cursed at kat as you backed her up to the door. "now, if you don't mind, i have to wake up early tomorrow to do laundry and i'd like to get my whole 8 hours of sleep so please get the fuck out." you opened the door and with a slight nudge, kicked her out of the room. you slammed the door in her face, not caring anymore if your housemates found you and ellie unbearable.
you leaned your forehead against the door and cursed under your breath. when you turned around, you saw ellie laying on her bed. she looked like she was in shock. you walked over to her and sat on the edge of her bed. "are you okay?" you asked.
"i don't get how she found me." ellie said, fear being more than evident in her voice.
you knew people didn't like their ex's but the way ellie was reacting is something that you hadn’t seen in most people. she's genuinely afraid and shaken-up. your hand rubbed her shoulder, causing her to close her eyes and let out a shaky breath. "do you wanna talk about it?"
she opened her eyes again and looked at your worried expression. "i don't want to burden you."
sadden by her response, you laid on your side, in front of her and caressed her cheek. "hey, you could never be a burden to me. tell me what's going on?"
ellie grabbed your wrist, taking a moment to appreciate how kind you were, even after her crazy ex just ruined your night. "kat and i started dating in freshmen year of high school. at first, she was perfect. she felt like my dream girl, but i don't know, things changed a few months into our relationship. she started showing her true colors." ellie explained.
"what's she actually like?" you asked, in a low whisper.
"abusive, manipulative, a compulsive cheater." ellie struggled to get out.
"abusive? like physical or just mental stuff?" you can't imagine anyone ever getting the leg up on ellie. she was a tough girl, her glare alone was intimidating.
"no, not really. a lot of it was just mental and emotional shit," ellie answered. "she liked playing mind tricks, purposely starting screaming matches and making me feel like absolute shit whenever i did or said something she didn't like, i-"
ellie couldn't find it in herself to continue. you assured her it was alright by brushing her hair behind her ear. "it's okay, you don't have to keep going. i understand, i'm so sorry you had to put up with her bullshit." you held back the tears that wanted to spill for her.
"it's not your fault." ellie’s voice cracked.
"i know," you said. "i'm still sorry."
after a few minutes of ellie finding immense comfort and security in your touch, she spoke again. "i'm sorry too... for hurting you."
"what’re you talking about?" you questioned.
"i saw the way your face fell when kat said she was my girlfriend and how your face fell again when kat said she still loved me." ellie said. "i don't want you to think i was just using you."
"we don't have to talk about this right now." you assured her.
"but i want to." ellie said. "when i kissed you, i was just doing what felt right to me and trust me, you feel right to me a lot of the time."
the comment made you smile. "but, you're not ready for a serious relationship right now?"
"not even a little." she hesitantly admitted.
you stared into her comely green eyes and sighed in disappointment. "although that was the last thing i wanted you to say, i respect it. i'm okay with just being friends if it means i can still be something to you."
ellie felt relieved by your reaction. she was so used to getting shit on for not being able to control her feelings or thoughts, that she feared you might've stormed off. ellie wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you closer to her. you knew you should've gotten off the bed. this was not helping you get over the auburn-haired girl but it's just for tonight. ellie needs you, just for tonight.
✩──────────✩─────────✩──────────✩─────────✩
when morning came, you were the first to get up. you took a very long shower, hoping it’d wash away ellie's touch. it’s been an hour and yet you could still so clearly remember her fingertips on your bare skin, her warm breath against your neck and the way her green eyes lingered in such a needy and helpless way over your body. you groaned before turning off the shower and getting out.
by the time you were done drying yourself and getting dressed, the fog on the mirrors cleared up. a small gasp left your lips as you caught the numerous of hickies ellie left on your neck and chest. you knew she left some but not this many. you walked out the bathroom to try to find something to cover it with. "oh, are you done in the shower?" ellie asked as she set her phone down.
"yeah..." you said. you were hoping she’d still be asleep.
“why are you going through your stuff so franatically.” ellie questioned
"i just need to- uh-" when you turned around to face ellie, she tried her best cover up a grin.
"holy shit, i did that?"
you couldn’t help but laugh at her shock. “you’re such an asshole. obviously.” you turned back around to your dresser to look for a hoodie.
"hold on," ellie got off the bed. "you left some questionable marks on me too." ellie walked right in front of you, took off her hoodie and lifted up her tank top. your hand went to cover the smile on your face as you stared at the scratches around her waist.
"in my defense, their somewhere you can't see." feeling confident in your argument, you uncovered your mouth. "so, it's not the same thing.”
ellie rolled her eyes. “yeah, whatever. i’m gonna take a shower.”
“good, you smell.” you stated.
“like what?”
“misery.” you half-jokingly said.
“wow, okay.” ellie said as she grabbed her towel. “oh, and please wait for me before going to the laundry room. i have like almost no clean clothes.”
you looked over at the dirty pile of clothes on her desk chair. “got it."
once ellie was in the shower, you let out a long and deep sigh. you loved, but at the same time, hated how normal ellie was acting. on one hand, it’s feels good to still be on speaking terms with ellie and not have it be so awkward and stiff between the two of you, but on the other hand, it almost feels like brushing off what the two of you have… no, had was entirely too easy for her. or at least that’s how it seemed to you but are things ever really what they appear to be?
in reality, ellie was just as hurt as you, probably even more. not only is she hurting but she doesn’t even know if she has the right to hurt, she’s the one that ended it; so what was the problem? ellie slightly smirked to herself in the shower as she remembered the marks she left on you. ellie felt bad for what she did, she was sure you didn’t appreciate having your sex life on display for the entire world to see but she did. when people stare at you, they won’t wonder what happened. it’s clear to see, what happened, someone gave you hickies, someone was lucky enough to have you under their touch. what they will be asking is who it happened with. even though ellie didn’t wish to pursue a relationship with you at this very moment, is it wrong for her to still not want others to even send you a second glance?
ellie's fingers trailed over the scars you left as her head tilted up at the shower head. her eyes were shut as she envisioned last night again but not just the part where you two made out. ellie thought about the way you held her hand for the first time at the party, the way your lips wrapped around your first blunt, the way you kicked kat out when she didn’t have the energy or strength to do it herself and the way you comforted her afterwards. you were so heavenly. ellie couldn’t think of a single flaw you possessed.
she cursed over the fact that her ex-girlfriend destroyed her capability to let others in, to love and to commitment. with a bitter expression, ellie went back to her cold and depressing shower, only being able to think about you.

━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━
your wrists flicker bewitchingly as you play your violin. out of all your classes this school year, violin would have to be your favorite. the sweet and heady melodies the instrument makes as you maneuver its bow against the strings is all it takes to put your mind to ease. in a world in which society has collapsed and uninfected humans are difficult to come by, this is what you needed. well, this and– “can you shut up with that? like honestly, you’re starting to give me a headache.”
the violin lets out a small shriek as you come to an abrupt stop. you place the instrument on your lap as you turn your head to look at ellie, who has gone back to writing in her cedar colored journal. you tried to hold back the anger that begged to come out as you burned a glare into the side of her temple. “how about you go and fuck yourself? the only reason as to why i’m trapped in here with you instead of at my violin lessons is because of your pettiness and lack of showmanship.”
ellie’s grip on her pencil tightened as her eyebrows furrowed. you weren’t wrong, not entirely. it’s your last year of high school and you only have 2 more months to go until you officially graduate and are assigned real adult jobs by maria. your science teacher thought it’d be fun to have two of her top students in that class participate in a ‘friendly’ competition over the subject. let’s just say things were not friendly and when you seemed to have been in the lead with only a few minutes left of class, ellie blurted out the fact that you didn’t learn how to read until you were 9 years old and that you were probably cheating.
of course, you didn’t let that slide and in return spilled one of her big secrets which was the fact that she plagiarized her 10th grade english paper from some random textbook she found on a run with joel. it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal if it wasn’t the same paper that got her on honor roll and at the top of her class. she stole that spot from another girl who was a brilliant writer and worked her ass off to show it be reflected in her work. so, then that girl stepped in and started verbally attacking ellie and before anyone knew it, people were turning against each other, some siding with the writer, others siding with ellie and her desperate attempt at passing 10th grade english, ‘cause in her defense, the assignment was pretty difficult.
ellie turned her head to you as she shut her journal. “ugh, finally.” you scoffed. “we have another 45 more minutes left of detention to go and i do not want to hear your imperceptible scribbling for the time being.”
‘imperceptible’ the word replayed over and over in ellie’s head as she tried to search for the meaning. when she couldn’t, it caused her to grow even more frustrated. it might’ve taken you a little longer to learn how to read and write than the other kids in jackson but once you did, you made sure to read every book and dictionary you could get your hands on. the thought of ever being humiliated for your lack of knowledge, drove your motivation.
when you first met ellie, she thought it was cute. she’d smile at those ‘big and weird’ words you’d use to describe the simplest of actions and emotions and would even ask you what they meant. you’d always be happy to answer and even throw in a few fun facts about the word, but now? oh now, she just found it insufferable. she found you insufferable. “you know, i meant what i said, about you cheating. no way could you recall all of the constellations off the top of your head. you’re too slow for that.”
you ran your tongue over your front teeth as an annoyed smirk took a hold of your lips. “you are such a sore loser. it’s entertaining actually. the way your eyes flicker with anger the second i do anything that ticks you off.” you leaned in her direction, refusing to break eye contact. “my favorite part about it all is that i don’t even have to try and your anger runs rampant with thoughts of me. glad to know i have that kind of power.”
ellie felt a familiar, yet unwelcomed knot in her stomach as you stared at her. the teasing words that left your lips didn’t help her situation either. “what?” you questioned. “cat got your tongue?” the fire you lit in her chest grew brighter at your snarky comment but the knot in her stomach also tightened. she looked over you, her eyes darting from your eyes to your lips, to the small facial details all around your face until they landed back on your (y/c/e).
“i hate you.” ellie cursed.
you blinked a few times as a powerful sting erupted from your chest. you caught your smirk before it could fully fall and recollected yourself. “i hate you too.”
✩───────────✩──────────✩
your eyes linger on the ceiling of your room as your thoughts jump from subject to subject, ellie being one that keeps coming back. your friendship used to mean the world to the both of you, then one fight over something so stupid and boom, it’s over and you find yourselves fighting over what was supposed to be  a ‘friendly’ competition. the love you have for ellie is still there, it never left. it could never leave. a knock on the door pulls you out of your thoughts.
you quickly get off your bed, making sure to suck back in the tears that were seconds away from spilling and open your bedroom door. “(y/n), ven.” your mother, who’s still as youthful as the day the infection went wildfire, said as she grabbed your hand and led you to the kitchen.
“¿para qué?” you questioned.
“i want you to try the arroz con leche i made for ellie.” your mom smiled as she poured you a cup of the piping hot drink.
you groaned, rolling your eyes. “why’d you make her some? do you still talk to her, venus?”
your mother sent you a death glare for using her first name. “you know, back in my day you would’ve gotten a smack on your behind for that.”
“yeah, well back in your day you also didn’t have clickers running wild, trying to satisfy it’s insatiable hunger with you either, now did you?” you snarked. the next glare your mom sent you felt much scarier and more threatening. you shuffled between your two feet quickly before dropping your piss poor attitude. “i’m sorry.” you hung your head low as you sat on the wooden barstool.
you rested your elbows on the kitchen island and placed your cheeks in the palm of your hands. your mom reeled herself back, understanding that ellie was a sensitive topic for you. she didn’t know the whole story of your fallout. all she knew was what you told her after you came home, snot running down your nose, teary clouds blurring your vision and sorrowful sobs leaving your throat. 'she stopped talking to me a few weeks ago, she blew up on me over something stupid i said and then i tried talking to her again today and ugh, mami she was such an asshole, i don’t get it. i just miss her.'
your mother gave you a look of sympathy, before carefully placing the cup in front of you. “listen, i know your relationship with ellie right now is… complicated–”
“right now?” you repeated. “ma, it’s been almost a year already.”
“so? tu papa y yo, fuimos 2 years without talking,” your mothers accent made itself more apparent as she passionately spoke and switched between english and spanish. “and yet, we still found ourselves back to each other. love is greater than any other emotion we feel (y/n), whether that’d be fear or anger. if what you had with ellie was as strong as you believed it once was, then she will come back to you. maybe she was going through something, blew up, felt embarrassed and let her pride win.”
you took careful sips of your drink, taking in all that she said. your mother possessed many amazing qualities but her ability to make others feel seen and understood was one of her greatest ones, as well as giving fruitful advice. “i mean, did you try talking to her again after things cooled down?”
“no.” you quickly let out. “the first time she blew up on me, that’s what i did, i waited until things cooled down but the second time? nu-uh, message-fucking-recevied.”
your mother scoffed amusingly as she began pouring the liquid into a tall thermal. the fact that you finished your drink in the small amount of time in which this conversation was taking place was all the answer she needed to know that what she made was more than delicious. “you’re gonna give her all of it?” your face scrunched up, wanting another serving or two.
“it’s her early birthday present. 19 is a pretty big number.” venus smiled as she took off her mits and placed the empty pot in the sink. “now, please wash that while i go over and take this to them.”
“what, no.” you whined, hating having to wash dishes, especially big pots with gunky stuff stuck to the bottom.
“okay, fine.” your mother placed the thermal back down. “you take it over to them. and don’t just hand it to joel, make sure you let ellie know that it was from me and that we both wish her an early happy birthday.” your eyes widened as you took in a deep and sharp breath. “yeah, that’s what i thought.”
before your mom could leave, you stopped her. you really hated washing big pots, this is your only reason for wanting to take the thermal to ellie. it had nothing to do with what your mom just said or the unspoken fervent thoughts and feelings you still possessed for ellie. “fine, i’ll go. just, let me get dressed first.”

Summary: just you, ellie, drinks and a whole lotta of pain and pent of feelings for each other.
Inspired by: Selena Gomez - Crowded Room
━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═
The bitter taste of alcohol settles on your tastebuds as your eyes roam around the room. The smile plastered on your face possesses no trace of authenticity. Anyone who cared to look into your eyes for more than a couple of seconds could see that, yet everyone was too enthralled in the event Maria threw to notice.
Rodeo night.
The people of Jackson came down to drink, dance and forget about the monsters that tormented the earth beyond these tall and sturdy walls. It was also a way for Maria to try and help the community recover from the loss of Joel and Jesse. Though in all honesty, it's been six months since Seattle and it seems like most of Jackson had recovered… most. Maria really threw this event for the few that were still bewailed over the deaths. Though a simple rodeo night could not heal their scars, it would at least encourage them to get out of the house.
The sound of a tequila glass shattering, pierced your ears. Your eyes shut in an instant as the memory of Abby shooting her firearm mobbed your mind. You were with Dina alone in a room, soothing her to sleep after she puked her guts out for what seemed like the 100th time that day. You sang her a lullaby, one that your dad used to hush you to sleep with. You pulled yourself away from the sickly girl to check out the sound. To your dismay, you found Jesse dead on the floor and your father bleeding out only a few feet away from him.
It was a horrid scene. Grim, cruel, savage. Your faith in whatever sinister god that's supposed job was to protect you and your loved ones had diminished into nothingness.
“(Y/N).” A hand on your shoulder pulled you back from the horrid memory. “Are you okay?”
It was Robin. Her back curved, knees wobbly and her eyes as warm and welcoming as ever. Your eyes immediately softened at the sight of her. Telling Robin and her husband, Woojin, that Jesse had passed was one of the most difficult things you’ve ever had to do. Every time you saw her you were reminded of that disheartening memory. “Yes, Ms.Bai, I just— I um—” You’re brain ran marathons trying to figure out what to tell her. Instead of saying anything about your sudden flashback, or making up a lie, you shifted the topic of conversation. “Where’s Mr.Bai? Maria said he’d be showing up tonight. I miss him.” Robin detected the raw sincerity in your voice and smiled sadly.
“He wasn't feeling well. I think he’s catching a cold.” Ms.Bai lied. A once optimistic and gleeful man now broken into something unrecognizable. The loss of your firstborn… of your only child can do that to you.
“Oh, I’m sorry about that. I send him my best wishes.” You mustered up a small smile.
Robin held back tears thinking about her husband, all alone and waddling in his own self hatred and grief back at home. “Well, the sun's gone down and I don’t think I can keep my eyes open for much longer. I should start saying my goodbyes and go home.”
You went in for a hug, immediately easing into her arms. Her warmth and comfort reminded you of how your mother used to hold you. “Take care, dear.” Robin hushed into your ear.
“You too and tell Mr.Bai I really hope to see him around soon.” You replied. Robin gave you one last smile before approaching Maria and your dad. You watched as she thanked Maria for the event. Your step-mom smiled, shook her hand, and replied with sweet words of her own as your dad sat on his wheelchair, a cold look of aggravation and displeasement written all over his scarred face.
It looks like Mr.Bai wasn't the only person who seemed to completely lose themselves after the events of Seattle. Saddened with what your dad had become, you dropped your smile, turned back around to the bar, ordered yourself another shot glass and chugged it down. Your throat burned as tears brimmed your eyes. You slid the empty glass back to the bartender and took a seat on one of the creaky barstools. You palmed your face, waiting for the alcohol to take effect as you pushed down the dispiriting emotions that fought so desperately within you to escape.
From across the room stood an auburn haired girl, her green eyes pierced your back. They haven't left you since the moment you arrived. You and Ellie were never really close. When Ellie and Joel first arrived to Jackson, after the events with the fireflies, you two kind of got off on the wrong foot. It was the anniversary of your mothers death, which usually caused you to be in a state of numbness. When it was time to introduce yourself to Ellie you sounded monotone, uninterested and honestly just over the whole interaction. Ellie didn't care all that much at first, she thought maybe that was just your personality. Yet a few days later, when she saw you all enthusiastic and excited to be around others; she felt sour about the way you treated her. She wondered if there was something about her that you didn't like in particular that caused you to act so indifferent towards her during your first interaction.
And though you had grown to like Ellie and vice versa, something stood in between the two of you that hindered the ability to make amends and become friends. Something Ellie had suspected could be sexual, maybe even romantic feelings. A scoff left her lips. ‘Maybe’ As if the romantic feelings didn't come before the sexual ones. At least for Ellie they did. She’d observe you in class— admired the way you scribbled on your journals, sang in choir, spoke in debate club, ranted about your dislikes, passionately spoke about your interests and etc. She could hardly keep her attention elsewhere whenever you were in the room.
A few feet away stood Dina, it was her turn to say her goodbyes to Robin for the night. Ellie could tell Ms.Bai was coming for her next. She shuffled between her feet uncomfortably, not wanting to look into her eyes and see the man she used to call her best friend. And though she missed Mr.Bai and sympathized with his grief, she was almost relieved to have not seen him tonight. They were carbon copies of each other, the only difference in their appearance used to be their age.
Ellie swirled the liquid in her glass, before looking back at you. You were still in the same position, still trying to barricade your emotions and waiting for the alcohol to do its job and make you numb to it all. Ellie felt much guilt, of course she did. The things she had said and done since Joel’s death weighed heavily on her. Not only did she turn Seattle into a ghost town but she felt responsible for what had happened to Jesse and Tommy. Jesse’s dead and Tommy isn't Tommy anymore. He’s a changed man, an unrecognizable one.
Ellie remembers how good he used to be with you, how he’d greet you after school with a hug and a kiss to the temple of your head, how he would speak proudly about you to those in Jackson after every one of your small and huge accomplishments and how he would spend days outside of the walls, trying to scavenge you a piece of new jewelry for your birthdays.
Now he’s just a man with a daughter. A daughter in which he cares little to keep up with most days.
You finally took your face out of your hands and scoffed in frustration. The alcohol wasn’t working in the way that you hoped and your emotions were only getting worse. Ellie saw you emerge from your seat and without thinking, Ellie gulped the last bit of her beer down before making her way over to you. She moved slowly within the crowd, small and barely audible excuse me’s left her lips.
Your back was slightly leaned against the bar, your elbows propping you up as you looked up at the ceiling. You took a couple of deep breaths in and out before looking straight forward again. You were more than pleasantly surprised to see Ellie standing shyly in front of you. A small and effortless smile made its way onto your lips. “Ellie.” Your voice came out small. The green eyed girl rarely ever approached you and vice versa. You both really only counted on your mutual friendships with Jesse and Dina to have a reason to interact with one another.
Ellie took a closer look at the iris’s of your eyes and smiled once she detected a small twinkle within them. The girl’s been staring at you all night, every smile beside hers and the one you gave Ms.Bai were complete B.S. and she knew it. She did spend most of her high school career just admiring you so of course she would notice. “(Y/N).”
The two of you stood in front of one another, hearts palpitating and palms growing sweaty. Ellie stared at you with swirls of adoration and grief in her eyes. You knew she was still hurting. The pain you two shared felt all too familiar for you not to catch on to it. Ellie decided to break the silence between you too first. “So, Rodeo Night? Having any fun?”
You chuckled. “No.” The word came out quicker than intended. “You?”
“Definitely not.” Ellie said as she took a few steps closer to you. “This was all very nice of Maria but I don’t think it’s helping me in the way she hoped it would.”
“Yeah…” You quietly agreed. Ellie took a seat on the barstool nearest to you. “Well, at least it looks like D’s having a good time.” You looked at the laughing girl who’s small hand caressed her baby bump. “How’s the baby by the way? Is everything okay?”
“Uh yeah, the doc said they're both perfectly healthy.” Ellie delayed her answer, almost like she got distracted by something and wasn't really listening to what you were asking.
You took a seat back down, wanting to ask what was wrong but just as you were about to ask, you closed your mouth. You didn't have to ask what was wrong, you already knew what it was. Grief, regret, anger, a never ending feeling of loneliness. You could go on for hours about it. The anguish that you both felt was one you were almost certain would never go away, kind of like the night terrors you frequently experienced. “I get it.” Your voice slightly cracked.
Ellie looked at you, the iris’s of your eyes holding an immense amount of self-hatred and tournament. “I know you get it. I wish you didn’t but I know you do.”
You placed your hand over Ellie’s and gave it a small squeeze. “I wish you didn't either. Neither of us deserve this, we’ve both lost so much. It’s not fair.”
The whole room didn't exist when it was you and Ellie. With her it always felt like it was just the two of you. And yet neither of you ever tried to take it a step further. It’s a shame really, pining after each other for so many years and it never being the right time for either of you to fess up. Without thinking, you grabbed Ellie’s handand stood up. “Come on, this alcohol shit isn't doing us much good.”
“Where are we going?” Ellie asked as she trailed behind you.
“To the kitchen. I know where Seth likes to stash his chocolate powder.”
Ellie smirked at your mischievousness. A glimpse of what life used to be like before Joel’s death flashed through her mind. Countless, endless nights with you, Dina and Jesse. Oh how she missed that way of living, it held a sort of an innocence to it.
Once you two arrived to the back, you immediately went over to one of the bottom cabinets. Ellie looked around the cold and empty space. “Got it!” You cheered. Ellie smiled at the accomplished look you gave her. You then made a pot of water before putting it on the stove. Ellie grabbed two mugs as the water warmed up. “So, I heard you and Dina are looking to move out of Jackson.”
“Huh?” Ellie’s face scrunched up. “Who said that?”
“I heard my dad and Maria talking about it.” You answered. “Maria said you asked her of any good farmhouses in the area. I know one of Dina’s dreams is to live on a farmhouse one day oh and not to mention the fact that you guys are dating—”
Ellie stopped you. “Dating? No, Dina and I are not dating.”
“Oh?”
“I get why you would think that. Dina and I were dating but after Seattle, I don’t know we both just sorta drifted apart. We broke up a few weeks ago.” Ellie nervously explained.
In your defense, you barely left the house, let alone keep up with your friends. “I’m… sorry to hear that.”
“Don’t be, it was a mutual decision. It was for the best.” Ellie assured. “And about the farmhouse, I did get the idea from Dina. The more I thought about being on my own, the more I gravitated to the idea of living on a farm and raising my own cattle and growing my own food.”
You smiled sadly. “Oh, so you are planning on leaving Jackson.”
Ellie scratched the back of her neck. “Um, yeah, sooner than later hopefully.” You felt a piece of your heart break. You let a tiresome sigh leave your lips as you turned around to turn off the stove. “Well, don’t get too excited for me. You might break a hip.”
You chuckled at Ellie’s cheesy remark before making the hot chocolates. “I’m sorry, El. It’s just—” You looked into her eyes. I’m really gonna miss you.”
“Me too.” Ellie replied. You sighed again, before handing her her drink.
“Hmm, you’ll manage.” You took a small sip from your mug. When you looked back up at Ellie, you noticed the confused look on her face. “What?”
“I’ll manage? Do you not believe me when I say I’m going to miss you too?” Ellie stepped out of her comfort zone to ask as she wasn't really the confrontational type.
“Sure, I do, but I don’t think you mean it in the way I mean it.” You spoke your truth.
Ellie sat her mug down. “And in what way do you mean it?”
You thought about whether it was finally the right time to tell Ellie about how you truly felt. Was there ever going to even be a right time? And even if there is one, it seems like it won’t really matter in the long run. She is soon to be gone, out of Jackson and on her own little farm, far away from you and your years of brewing and pent-up feelings. You grinned behind your mug as you took another sip of the sweet beverage. “It’s just, I’m really going to miss you and think about how differently I would’ve done things if I had known you weren’t going to stick around in Jackson forever.”
“Oh, yeah? Like what? What would you have done differently?” Ellie asked.
“You remember that time in 10th grade when we made plans to skip 3rd period and go to Dina’s to smoke but then Dina and Jesse bailed on us and went to the park instead?” You asked.
It took her a second to recall the memory. “Yeah and then you said you would rather just go back to class then hangout with just me?”
“Hey, I didn’t say it like that!” You defended yourself.
“Yeah? Well that's how it sounded.” Ellie replied.
“Oh yeah, cause you've never done anything similar to me?” You watched Ellie think about it and could see her recalling a few of her own moments of avoiding alone time with you. “Yeah exactly.” You said, confidently. “But that’s besides the point, Ellie. What I wanted to say was that I would have just asked you if you wanted to hangout with just me instead. It is what I wanted to ask you, I was just scared.”
“Scared? Scared of what?” Ellie asked, her heart sped up at the possibility of you feeling the same way she did.
“---Of what I’d do if I was left alone with you. El, I had a really big crush on you.” You mustered out.
“Had?” She questioned. “As in past tense?”
Something in Ellie’s eyes told you she felt the same, maybe she still even did? “Had, have. Does it really matter now? You’re leaving soon.”
Ellie tried fighting back a giddy smile and instead shook her head. “Uh, yeah, it kind of does. I— um,”
“Feel the same?” You finished her sentence knowing it would have taken ages for her to get there.
“Yeah, how’d you know?” Ellie asked.
“Always had a hunch.” You answered. “Which I think made it even scarier to be left alone with you.”
Ellie took a deep breath in, thinking about how the girl she's been pinning over for years just confessed her feelings for her. “But we’re alone now and you’re not scared?”
“Who said I wasn't?” You took a step closer to the auburn haired girl.
“Prove it.” She told you.
Without given it another thought, you grabbed her hand and placed it against your chest. She blushed at the gesture, smiling as she felt your heart thud rapidly. Ellie held a hand up to your face, caressing your cheek as she stared lovingly into your eyes. “You’re so beautiful.” Ellie commented in a low tone.
A small grin made its way onto your lips as you leaned in to kiss Ellie. She stood there for a second, frozen, not knowing what to do. The kiss sent shivers down your spine, your arms, your legs, your inner thighs. You felt it everywhere. When you tried pulling away, Ellie snapped back into the moment, grabbing your face with the palms of her hands and pulled you in deeper to the kiss. Her tongue swiped across your bottom lip and without a second to waste, you let her tongue in. Years of pent up hunger and desire spilled out all over you. A small moan left Ellies lips as you bit her bottom lip.
Ellie pulled away for a short minute, letting you catch your breath. “Fuck, I need you.”
“I’m all yours, baby.”
Ellie smirked, caressing your cheek with her thumbs. She looked around the cold and empty kitchen before looking back into your lustful and lovey dovey eyes. “Have you ever done it in the kitchen of a diner before?”
“No,” You tried holding back a laugh. “Have you?”
“No, but…”
“But what?” You questioned.
“Don't know if I can wait until we make it back to my place.”
“Well, I mean…” You thought about it, not being able to ignore the growing sensation in between your thighs for much longer. “There is a first time for everything.”
Ellie held her smirk, her eyes shifted from your lips to your eyes. “What’re we waiting for? I think we’ve done enough of that. Don’t you think?”
“Oh, I know.” You replied before reuniting your lips with hers.

roommates - ellie williams (4)

part three, here
content warning: explicit language, use of marijuana, sexual thoughts & acts?? i think that’s all…
// initial summary: the day after you officially moved into your new college dorm, you decide to take a look around the school, getting familiar to the clubs that they have to offer as well as the libraries, classes and cafeteria. you come back to your dorm in hopes of taking a shower and sitting in quiet solitude, but your plans are disrupted by your new roommate moving in… ellie williams. //
━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━
"well, that was a trip." you sighed, once you and ellie got back to your shared dorm.
ellie scoffed as she took off her grey hoodie, revealing the well-fitted, black tank top underneath. her toned arms made it almost impossible for you to look away. "yeah, fingers crossed we never have to return."
as soon as ellie turned to you, your eyes diverted from her arms to the bookbag that sat against your bed. you immediately went to it and grabbed your wallet. you pulled out a 20 dollar bill and held it up to her. "i'm not sure how much marijuana cost but this is what i have."
ellie laughed, staring into those big (y/c/e) eyes that she loved so much. "keep it, the treats on me. think of it as a housewarming gift."
"are you sure? i know good weed isn't cheap." you told her.
"i'm sure." ellie assured as she began rolling a blunt. you were never really the kind of person that just liked to take things. you always had to repay the favors others did for you, tenfold. without ellie noticing, you slipped the 20 dollar bill in the pocket of one of her pants that was sitting on her chair.
you then sat down on the floor and leaned against your bedframe. once ellie was done, she took a seat in front of you. "open." she ordered as she held the blunt up to your mouth. like a child, without question or hesitation, you did what she said. after ellie placed the blunt in between your lips, she lit it with her favorite lighter.
with a small smirk, ellie leaned back on her bed frame. "okay, now inhale, hold it in your lungs and then exhale." she explained in the simplest of terms. your heartbeat quickened at the fact that you were finally trying the drug everyone seemed to be so fascinated by. you tried not to make a face as you inhaled the earthy smoke. you were only able to hold it in your lungs for about a second before coughing it out. ellie chuckled as she moved to your side.
she gently rubbed circles on your back and took the blunt from your hand. "don't worry, it gets easier. "
you reached for the water bottle in your bookbag and took a few sips of it before turning to face the girl only a feet away from you. ellie took a drag from the blunt as she stared at you softly. "how stupid do i look right now? be honest."
"you don't look stupid." ellie's voice possessed a hint of rasp. "i find you to be very adorable."
you rolled your eyes as you took another drag of the heady herb, this time not coughing as much but still finding it difficult to hold it in your lungs for more than a second. you passed it back to ellie as you pulled your knees up to your chin and wrapped your arms around your legs. your vision began acting up as a sense of easiness washed over you. it's starting. you think to yourself.
as ellie took another drag, she watched you with her sorcerous-like green eyes. her worry and anxiety over the feelings she harbored for you washed away with every drag she took. "you wanna go at it again?" you pulled your chin away from your knees and leaned back.
thinking about it for a quick minute, you gave in. "atta girl." ellie spoke in a lower tone. your thighs slightly twitched at the sudden praise. third time proved to be a charm as you successfully avoided coughing. you passed the blunt back to ellie and watched her as she so effortlessly took a drag. she was such a natural at this. your eyes stared at her light pink lips as she exhaled the smoke. when ellie noticed you staring, she blushed. "don't look at me like that."
"like what?" you asked, refusing to break eye contact.
"like you wanna fuck me." ellie smirked as she passed you the blunt.
you started cracking up. "i can't help it. you're too pretty." this time you took a longer drag. this newfound confidence felt amazing on you and you wanted it so badly to last forever. as ellie took the blunt back, your eyes trailed over her tattoo. she was so perfect. everything about ellie made you want her. you've never felt this intensely about anyone else before and in all honesty, it freaked you out.
noticing you staring again, ellie grabbed your chin and forced you to look into her eyes. "stop staring at me like that." ellie's voice was now, a bit raspier.
you smiled at her sweetly. "i can't help it. i already told you."
"well, you were really good at it in the beginning." ellie said, referring to the first week of you two sharing a dorm. there'd be moments when ellie would try to start a conversation with you and you'd just brush her off. ellie can't really find it in herself to get completely over that just yet, especially not when you're right in front of her. "i'm sure you could do it again."
you grabbed her wrist, hoping she'd let go of your chin. she was staring so deeply into your (y/c/e) eyes that the knot in your stomach tightened with every second that past. "that's not fair. you made me nervous. you still do." you then whispered the next part. "let go of me."
your request only made ellie's grip on you tightened. you held back a moan of pleasure as your eyes moved from her eyes to her lips and back to her eyes. you wanted so desperately to lose the gap between the two of you and just feel all of her on you, at once. "please, ellie." the girl in front of you refused to let go. she wasn't ready. she loved the way you said her name, it sounded like a sweet melody rolling off your tongue. her chest felt heavy as she used all her power to not give into your lips.
ellie's hand slowly trailed down to your neck as she set the blunt down on the nightstand and then used her free hand to grab your bare thigh. her cold fingertips against your skin caused a small gasp to escape your mouth. "come here." ellie almost commanded as she tugged on your thigh.
wanting it as much as ellie, you moved closer to her. her hand trailed to the back of your thigh, and she gave it a tight squeeze. your forehead fell against ellie's as you shut your eyes, trying your best to stay quiet. "open your eyes, (y/n)." you kept your eyes shut, not knowing how much more of this you could take. ellie grabbed onto you rougher as her eyes burned for yours to meet hers. "open your fucking eyes, (y/n)."
the second that you did, ellie felt her chest explode as she succumbed to her sexual desires. her soft lips collided with yours in an instant and she happily took in the small moan that escaped your lips. ellie slowly made her way on top of you as you made out. her lips moved so perfectly with yours as you grabbed the back of her neck to pull her in deeper.
once you were fully on your back, she placed one knee in between your legs, making it impossible for you to ignore the sensual desire that ached from your heat. ellie kept her hand on your neck as the other one slid under your dress to play with the hem of your underwear. "ellie." you moaned. one of your hands moved under her shirt and cupped her breasts.
"fuck." the auburn-haired girl cursed against your lips. she then went back to kissing you but began moving down to your chin, then to your neck. she tugged at your skin with her teeth and sucked on it, making sure to leave evident bruises behind. as she did that, she rubbed circles against your heat, through the fabric of your underwear. you moaned loudly and dug your nails into her waist. ellie bit at your skin slightly harder from the pain that radiated from her waist and the pleasure that throbbed from her vulva.
you whimpered when ellie's hand left your heat. she smirked into your skin and used that hand to pull your cunt closer to her upper thigh. ellie then placed her hand on your hip and encouraged you to rub your heat against her. "fuck." you cried out as you did so.
ellie was about to take your short cardigan off when loud knocking erupted from the door.
