all the glamour and the trauma and the FUCKING melodrama

the last shot of ed in episode 2 is driving me crazy. i love it, and taika's acting is stunning, but i can barely stomach it. to see ed say "finally" and burst laughing because he's finally going to die, by the hands of his crew, when we know what he is like when he is content and happy. we've seen him laughing with stede looking at the ocean, we've seen him being given a cup of tea with 7 sugars. hell, we've seen him having fun with jack. we've seen him utterly excited and in love. and to have all of that stripped away to the point where he is happy and longs to die (also, parallel to stede smiling despite dying) is nothing short of devastating

i'm thinking about david's "when they are together, they think they're invulnerable" because both ed and stede get stabbed and they survive due to being together (and comedy). stede is about to be executed but he survives because ed is there with him. stede gets away with being stabbed by the spanish because he meets ed a minute later. they are a force that can't be broken when they are together. and it all comes crushing down when stede is forced away from ed, physically and under gunpoint. this is how strong their love is. you really can't break the chain
