Creation of the Mending Rune

I was not entirely happy with this one, so I held on posting it for a couple weeks. Now I’ve decided I don’t care and I’m putting it out to the ether anyways lol.

I thought these two freaks would be great for the hanged man.

I absolutely do not hate or even dislike Ranni but you can’t deny she comes across as the “author’s pet” of the game. She gets a unique ending, the player gets to marry her, she never has one pulled over on her(not by Selvius or by you), she gets to murder her own Two Fingers, has suffered no consequences for her plotting and scheming and is painted as ultimately “right” in a game where most things aren’t so black and white.

As a writer myself, nothing is more frustrating than “author’s pets” and I wish(along with everyone else I’m sure) the other endings had half as much care put to them as hers.

So I tried to reimagine some of them.

A huge perk with some fans of Ranni’s ending is you get to marry her. I get that. Who wants to be chained to Marika? But why ONLY her(no don’t click off hear me out). Not saying every other ending should come with a consort, but rather a unique..partnership, let’s say, rather than you just revive and marry Marika.

Fia’s Ending : Let’s say when you bring in the Age of the Duskborn, you are bound to Godwyn instead of Marika. Not as a consort, but as a patron god if you will, taking the place of The Greater Will that you vanquished yourself before hand.

I would actually like the same for Miquella and an ending for him where rather than act as your consort, he becomes a patron for you from whatever dream world he inhabits and through you realizes his goals for The Lands Between which, let’s face it, way better than what Marika was doing.

Gold Mask :  For some reason he’s not well regarded here and I have no idea why. To my understanding, al the genocide, slavery and war Marika perpetrated was at the behest of The Greater Will aka a god. Gold Mask seems to get that its the gods(The Greater Will) whose the problem and his rune would put a leash on them. I don’t see how this is a bad thing at all. For this ending, say you revive Marika. You don’t take her as your consort however, you assume a higher role than her. A divine judge-and from that point on all gods and demi gods have to answer to you. Like Milaketh, you’ll be a feared name among them. Perhaps you could have your own ring of assassins like the Black Knives mixed with godskins that will take out any gods or demi gods that abuse their power.

Dung Eater Ending : Dunno WHY you would pick this one but here goes. In his questline, TDE declares you are in fact, him. Insane, yes, but if your Tarnished agrees to execute his will then we can imagine they agree to some extent. You and TDE become two sides of the same coin. You rule as this terrible god of despair and he acts as your hands, moving across The Lands Between and cursing thousands as your “divine” general. Again, no idea why anyone wants this ending but at least we can do more with it than just ugly skies.

Default ending can remain default.

Frenzied Flame ending is fine as it is.

How would you guys improve the endings we got? Would you add anymore?

Finally tackled the Elden Ring platinum comic. Might've been better if I did Ranni's ending but I really wanted to see the Moon ruins. Like Panel 2 mentions, I'll hold back from Fia and Goldmask for the dlc. I would've done them if their endings weren't "Sitting on throne with different color pallet", Somehow dungeater felt different enough that it was worth checking it out before Shabiri's ending. Mimic is there cause he's worked with me from the very end. Though also the Shabiri eyes made him look terrified.
