"The Modern Go-Go World" is an Ed Edd n Eddy fancomic that takes place during the characters' High School years. It features an original character, Freya, as she deals with grief, growing up, blood curses, and the constant looming threat of being eaten by bears.

Puppy Eyes and Doll Eyes: The Complete, Short "Assassin AU" Comic (EEnE)

First, disclaimers: we all know Ed Edd n' Eddy doesn't belong to me, and the "Assassin AU" of the series is by "C2ndy2c1d". Hopefully, this sample of my comic-related works sparks interest in a potential audience for more, both of original and fan-based content.

Finally, got it finished! Boy, talk about having a "funny way of showing it," when it comes to any feelings of endearment, huh? Let's just say, "It's complicated..." isn't just for romantic relations. Also, I hope you got your fill of Claire retaining her usual wolfishness there, as she's going to be a normal human in the actual fan comic series. As I've said before, the concept of "werebeasts" can be an interesting idea for an assassin-based series, just not for the world of EEnE-- "alternate universe" or not.

I admit that it'll be jarring, but I can still replicate Claire's wolf nature via her assassin theme: "Herr Wolf," which involves her dressing similarly to the common werewolf portrayal. If you're wondering why she's using "Herr" in that title, and not the more appropriate German addressment of "Frau," it's both for similar sound to the mythical monster and for the masculine nature of her outfit's appearance. Plus, wolves are generally associated with masculinity. As for when she's OUT of costume, she'll be wearing a little wolf-hoodie that has both ears and a tail. It'd be perfect, as constantly having the hood over her head would also portray her timid/shy demeanor. Besides, Sarah and Jimmy would probably find their apprentice cuter with her hood on and ears hanging about, so there's that.

Oh yeah, hope you grew to like the idea of Claire being with Sarah and Jimmy up there, as she'll be with them instead. Don't worry, they'll take good care of her; but that doesn't mean they can't have some fun with her, every now and again~. What's all this about apprentices and stuff? This post is your answer, in regards to the upcoming fan comic series. Of course, keep in mind that I also do more ORIGINAL series, so it's not like I'll dedicate every moment of "creative time" to that.

Back to the page itself, I really wish I could've figured out a way to make the colorless outlines match how I envisioned: a tad on the fancier side, but I definitely like the surrounding "oil paint" texture that CS-Art offered. At the very least, I find the "End" text very pretty and satisfyingly done: simple, yet nicely calligraphic. Then again, that IS the form of "pen" I selected, when writing it. Can you believe I also had trouble drawing in a more "chibi" style? Yeah, that's some irony right there: I can easily draw the more "professional" forms of characters, but it's drawing them in smaller/simpler forms that "hard mode" is activated... Eh, practice makes perfect, ja?

I also notice I forgot to add the little chick feet, on the back of Ed's magazine; but let's be honest, it's not really THAT big of a deal. It also looks a little better without the busy back cover, I'd say? As for Sarah's face, in regards to visible angels of things, she's grinning under her mask. Unfortunately, it covers the left side of her face; and she and Jimmy are heading to the RIGHT, therefore their LEFT sides will be toward the audience, in that perspective.

Anyway, I think I've finally figured how to go about comics, thanks to this little and fun fan one-- both to the actual EEnE series, and C2ndy2C1d's awesome AU concept. Seriously, Sarah and Jimmy may scare me to heck and back, as this version of their characters, but I'd be lying if I claimed they (and the other characters) weren't cool. Yep, from now on, it's gonna be: traditional panels (with less being more), handwritten lettering, a colored background for space outside the panels, and somewhat text-fitting bubbles that overlay the panels. Welp, hope you all look forward to future comic works by me, as I've finally found my niche!

I sometimes try to recreating style from the show by using boiling lines effect redrawing in 2-3 times in lineart. But I definitely still need to work on mastering the EENE style

At the moment I have a two serious projects that I’m working on The first is It's Not Me ED a fanmade-comic and Spike & His Buddies a Sci-fi comic about my alter-ego character Spike.

IT'S NOT ME ED

A heist slapstick comedy fan-comic about The Eds trying to planning on robbery in middle at night.

It centers around The Eds in disguised as thieves, there plan is to break in the Candy Store at night in order to shoplifting as many as jawbreakers as they can. But of course they will meet a bigger threat how will try to stop them.

The timeline for this fan-comic in-universe is taking place during in the time span between Season 2 & 3 when there is still summer vacation in The Cul-de-Sac.

Now you may ask you're self why is it called ''It's Not Me ED?''. It's a reference to the Arthur Benson's Album The Science Labs and song ''It's Not Me.'' I also took some inspiration form other films like ''Escape from Alcatraz (1979)'' and ''Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie (1997)''

Wolverine: de Greg Rucka periode

Af en toe vind ik het al eens tof om gewoon eens door een oudere reeks comics te scrollen. Afgelopen week was dat het geval met de Wolverine serie van Juniorpress. De pakweg eerste 30 deeltjes kon ik me allemaal nog goed herinneren. Maar van de latere delen was ik eerlijk gezegd best veel vergeten. Zo botste ik bij nummer 75 op de start van de Greg Rucka run. 👉

In de VS betekende dit de herstart van Wolverine, met een nieuwe nummer 1. Bij Juniorpress ging de originele nummering gewoon door. Toch was het toen best een frisse wind die door de reeks ging. Marvel probeerde in die periode (2003) vanalles uit om nieuwe fans naar de comics te lokken. Daarvoor trokken ze schrijvers van Vertigo en de indie comics aan. Zo ook Greg Rucka dus.

Realistische aanpak

Die ging voor een meer realistische aanpak. Geen Wolverine in kostuum. Geen (of nauwelijks) superhelden. Gewoon rauwe, realistische misdaadverhalen. Onze held wordt zelfs niet als 'Wolverine' aangesproken, enkel als 'Logan'. Ik ben zelf wel fan van deze versie. Het voelt een beetje als een HBO dramareeks, eerder dan een superhelden comic. En dat is prima.

Rauw tekenwerk

Het tekenwerk is van Darick Robertson, bekend van Transmetropolitan. Hoewel zijn rauwe stijl goed bij het verhaal past, vind ik het in deze comics net wat té ruw. Ok, Logan is geen standaard mens, maar hier ziet hij er vaak meer uit als een soort trol. Het contrast met de covers is ook groot. Dat zijn prachtig geschilderde tekeningen van Esad Ribic waar Wolvie meer lijkt op een verfijnde versie van Hugh Jackman.

In de tweede verhaallijn werd het tekenwerk van zowel de covers als de comic zelf overgenomen door Leandro Fernandez.

Drieluik

De eerste verhaallijn van Rucka lees je in Wolverine 75 tot 77, met daarin de Amerikaanse delen 1 tot 5. Ook het tweede verhaal, 'Coyote Crossing', volgde in Wolverine 78 tot 80.

Jammer genoeg besloot Juniorpress toen om het derde deel over te slaan en meteen in te pikken bij de nieuwe verhalen van schrijver Mark Millar. Ook een fijne periode, maar iets hééélemaal anders. Daarover schrijf ik binnenkort nog wel eens een aparte post. 😉

Maar voor de Nederlandstalige lezers was het destijds dus niet zo fijn om het slot van Greg Rucka's run niet te kunnen lezen. Zeker omdat er hier een confrontatie met aartsvijand Sabretooth op het programma staat.

Gelukkig werd 'Return of the Native' járen later alsnog vertaald en opgenomen in de 'Duistere Kant' collectie van Panini voor Carrefour. Daarin lees je dus de Nederlandstalige versie van de Amerikaanse Wolverine 13 tot 19 en het slot van de Greg Rucka periode.

I thought I would like to share with you my professional opinion. My and Morgan's Fandom is like The Chronicles of Prydain and Disney's adaptation called "The Black Cauldron" in other words, like a book and its adaptation.

Why? I can explain. I did discover Morgan's Fandom last year, and did want to experiment on adapting Katie from her fandom to An, Edd n Eddy. However, I couldn't get permission from her because I was blocked for some reason. Now looking back, I feel like my OCs, Rockinoutlive's OC and Ed, Edd n Eddy's canon character, Nazz had something similarly in common with these girls, which was why I want to make this.

My An vs. Morgan's An

I did adapt An from VampireMeerkat before ever meeting Morgan's An. This was when I decided to start making An, Edd n Eddy back in 2019. An in my Fandom is funny and goofy, thinks everything is food, and love cute things. She also has a dog named Deb, and has a little brother named Sammy, a terrible brother that is.

She has something in common with Ed.

Morgan's An is the middle child, and is very goofy.

Both Ans share their love interest which is Ed.

Nat vs. Abby

Nat is the Rockinoutlive OC recommended to me by CharickCS. She had excellent charisma and is known to protect her friends. She loves butterflies, and her favorite snack is strawberry. She has a sweater collar on her neck due to a cooking accident reason.

Abby is younger than Morgan's An, and she is shy and intelligent.

Both Nat and Abby share their love interest with Edd.

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing one fanart of Abby and Edd, and I want to add Abby in An, Edd n Eddy as a result, but I can't really do anything about due to of course being blocked.

Nazz got something from Amy

Okay, first let's talk about Amy. She's Morgan's OC, and I don't know anything much about her besides the fact she's Eddy's love interest.

Now for Nazz. She is one of Danny Antonucci's characters making her Canon. Nazz is shown to hot and flirty around the boys (except for Jimmy and Rolf), and is very sweet. While being the sweet one, she is shown to sometimes be a bully when Kevin is around, or she gangs up with Kevin and the kids. That could the reason why some Ed, Edd n Eddy fans have distrust for Nazz.

And for a surprise, Nazz has a connection with Gurgi for my Fandom.

What's in common between them is that in both of my raralabelle1 fandoms of both of their show and movie, they were both named after each other. As you can see from the chart, the Nazz and Gurgi are much different, and only one of them have a close match to what they're named after.

EENE Nazz vs. Black Cauldron Nazz

Nazz in my Black Cauldron Fandom is a creature I made up called a Ramtheg, which is a hybrid between a sheep and a cow. Nazz is a black and white Ramtheg with yellow-blonde hair on the top. She is one of Taran's livestock.

Black Cauldron Gurgi vs. EENE Gurgi

The Gurgi in my An, Edd n Eddy comic is an orange spotted rabbit, and is one of Rolf's livestock. Gurgi is a curious companion, and sometimes would cause trouble. Gurgi can disguise himself as an outfit like a boa. Gurgi got Rolf and Chelsea together.

The Black Cauldron's Gurgi is a hungry misunderstood creature. Being very cowardly, and wants to find a friend. Taran might have not gotten along with Gurgi at first, but Gurgi was able to gain his trust. Gurgi got Taran and Eilonwy together.

Now there's also some similarities between them.

In An, Edd n Eddy, or any of our Fandoms and shippings, Nazz got something from Amy, even though she was a jerk, which was being Eddy's girlfriend.

In The Black Cauldron, Gurgi got something from Elidyr from book 2 of The Chronicles of Prydain, which was sacrificing himself to The Black Cauldron.

I shipped Nazz and Eddy because of an internet confession by @book-o-scams. I thought that confession was cool to be honest.

Chelsea vs. Katie

Now first off, they both might have a connection to Princess Eilonwy in the book and movie in my opinion. Let's about the two while what makes them connect with one of the Eilonwys.

Katie is Kevin's sister, and because Kevin's a jerk, she would be like Sarah towards Kevin, and shown to be great friends to the Eds. I bet she’s their Ed girl. I think Katie has a connection to Princess Eilonwy in the book because both of them had ginger/orange hair.

Chelsea is Welsh, and loves trains. She is also friends with The Eds. The reasons why I made Chelsea was number 1, I hadn't gotten permission from Morgan to use Katie because CharickCS and Rockinoutlive want me to ask permission before using OCs, and of course I was blocked, so I'm still stuck with Kylie's (Beatlesfangirl15's) Katie. Number 2, CharickCS might have gotten an uncomfortable hatred towards blondes not only thanks to what he had gone through in his life, but also it has something to do with Nazz. Chelsea shares the connection with the movie's Princess Eilonwy thanks to the color and style of the hair.

Both Katie and Chelsea have a love interest with Rolf. So now here's my jokingly good opinion about Taran and Rolf.

Rolf and Taran do both have their canonical terms. Both had live in a house with farm life.

Rolf is the son of the shepherd who's from the old country. The raralabelle1 appearance shows him to be wearing a sailor hat and a yellow shirt with white sleeves, orange sailor cape, and a red bow tie.

Taran had always wanted to become a warrior, and with courage he was able to defeat evil.

Both Taran and Rolf have a pig. Rolf has Wilfred, and Taran has a magical pig named Hen Wen.

Taran's appearance may vary by versions of Chronicles of Prydain's books, but Taran's appearance in Disney's adaptation is brown/red hair, green tunic, darker-brown/green pants, and brown boots.

Taran and Eilonwy both serve as inspiration for the relationship of Rolf and Chelsea.

And that's all I have to say about my professional opinion about the connection of my Fandom and Morgan's Fandom being like the book and its movie adaptation.

Het verhaal van Bart en ik - deel 1

Nu de grootste fase van ons gezamenlijk groeiproces is afgerond, voelde het de moeite waard om het verhaal te vertellen van Bart, mijn tweelingziel/twin flame, en ikzelf. Bart verscheen voor ‘t eerst in mijn leven in februari 2019. Als ik het me goed herinner, had hij mij ontdekt op Instagram, en ben ik ‘m beginnen volgen. Er stond quasi geen zelfportret van hem op zijn Instagram-account, dus ik had geen idee hoe hij er uit zag, maar het zag er wel uit als een account van een oudere man. Er was voornamelijk één post die mijn aandacht trok: graffiti van een tekst over het veranderen van de wereld. Dat wou ik ook, dus ik voelde redelijk snel dat wij op dezelfde golflengte zouden zitten. Mijn voornaamste intentie om hem te volgen was omdat hij elke dag een tekening postte van de ‘Daily Unfunnies’-scheurkalender van Bart Schoofs. Ik was (ben) grote fan van Schoofs, maar ik was helaas te laat om die kalender te kopen, dus kon ik via Bart W. zijn tekeningen alsnog zien. (Bart en Bart waren de eerste synchroniciteit van velen, alsook hun zonen die dezelfde voornaam hebben. En Schoofs’ geboortejaar had een link met een andere synchroniciteit tussen Bart en ik - daarover later meer) Na wekenlang dagelijks een kalenderblaadje te posten, verdween Bart ineens van de radar. Na een paar maanden stilte ging ik me wat zorgen maken - inmiddels was ik gaan rekenen op mijn dagelijkse dosis Daily Unfunnies. En dan uit het niets verscheen ‘ie weer in februari 2020. Terwijl we elkaar nog nooit hadden gesproken - ik likete enkel wat van zijn posts en hij enkele van m’n comics, inclusief een reactie af en toe met hartjes - was ik opgelucht een teken van leven te zien. Toen begon de lockdown, en rond begin april voegde Bart me onverwachts toe op Facebook. Het viel me op dat hij veel Facebookvrienden had, dus ik nam aan dat hij iedereen die hij interessant vond, toevoegde aan zijn lijst. Op Instagram had ik net een foto van de maan gepost, waarop hij foto’s van de maan voor z’n huis op mijn Facebook postte. Dat was ons eerste echte uitwisseling. Daarna was er een vage conversatie op een Facebookpost - ik weet de aanleiding niet meer - over dat ik wel ‘ns bij hem mocht komen overnachten in de tuin. Waarop ik dacht “uhh..”. Op dat punt zag ik Bart als zo’n vijftiger die wat praatjes wou maken met jonge vrouwen. Ik zat toen met die conditionering van “oudere mannen die jonge meisjes aanspreken zijn vetzakken”. Dat was de bril waar door ik hem zag. Iedereen verveelde zich wat tijdens de lockdown, en ergens vroeg hij mij ‘ns een tekening te maken met “‘k hebt gehad” met mijn Beaters-figuurtje. Wat hij vrijwel meteen als profielfoto instelde, waar ik door vereerd was. Inmiddels was hij grote fan geworden van mijn comics, en zat heel wat reclame te maken voor mij op zijn Facebook-pagina. Zonder dat ik daar naar vroeg, dus dat was heel lief. Halverwege mei 2020 is onze eerste lange conversatie ontstaan op Instagram. Ik hield wat een muur op uit zelfbescherming, omdat ik niet zeker was van zijn intenties. Die conditionering van dat leeftijdsverschil speelde constant in mijn achterhoofd. De volgende avond hebben we tot een stuk in de nacht gechat. Het voelde echt juist. Tegen de ochtend had hij een zwart-wit foto gestuurd van zichzelf, en een spraakbericht om zijn stem ‘ns te laten horen, waarbij ik dacht “oh god - die is echt een pak ouder”. Hij zag er redelijk streng uit op die foto (wat hij in werkelijkheid echt niet is). Daags nadien ontving ik een liefdesbrief van hem in de brievenbus. Mijn eerste liefdesbrief ooit. Waarin hij (knullig, maar schattig) vertelt over zijn schrijven, en over zijn leven, en dat hij een toekomst met mij zag etc. Later kreeg ik ook nog postkaartjes en boeken toegestuurd. Het leek er op dat hij echt verliefd op mij aan ‘t worden was. Er gingen enkele alarmbellen af als mogelijke red flags: hij ging heel snel in het tonen van zijn liefde, maar dat is wat Kreeften doen, die overweldigen anderen met liefde. Ik herkende me daar in, dus ik accepteerde het, al voelde het soms wat te veel. Uiteindelijk was zijn gedrag een goede spiegel van hoe ik me jegens Flor had gedragen in mijn relatie voorheen als angstig gehechte, op die manier kon ik mezelf bekijken vanuit derde persoon. Toen ging ik inzien dat Bart wat fungeerde als spiegel voor mezelf, vanwege gedragspatronen waar hij mij mee confronteerde, die we beide stelden. Kort na die brief hebben we voor ‘t eerst gebeld, van 21u tot 3u ‘s nachts. Net zoals elk moment met hem, kan ik me dat herinneren alsof het gisteren was. Eind mei was onze eerste ontmoeting. Hij is me met zijn Harley (’The Blue Rambler’) komen bezoeken in Leuven. Ik gaf ‘m gelijk een knuffel - want dat ben ik als ik een sterke connectie met iemand voel, en ik voelde me meteen op m’n gemak in zijn buurt. Maar nog steeds met enige afstand, omdat ik niet voor hem voelde wat hij voor mij voelde. Hij was fysiek tot mij aangetrokken, ik niet tot hem. Hier thuis hebben we wat gebabbeld en geknuffeld, naast elkaar liggend. Het was al laat wanneer hij vroeg of hij kon blijven slapen op de zetel omdat hij niet meer met zijn motor terug wou naar huis wou - wat wat onverwacht was, maar ik wou geen nee zeggen. De volgende ochtend keerde hij huiswaarts. We Skypeten veel, iedere avond uren aan een stuk, omdat we elkaar zoveel te vertellen hadden (achteraf gezien hij vooral). De verhalen over zijn leven waren ook wel ontzettend interessant, en voelden zelfs nostalgisch - alsof ik er zelf bij was geweest. Wat later ben ik hem dan ‘ns gaan opzoeken in Dikkelvenne. Het viel me op dat die streek enorm vertrouwd voelde, precies alsof ik er ooit al was geweest, terwijl ik er voor ‘t eerst kwam. Er was iets met die omgeving, alsook het huis waar hij woonde. Op een avond toen we samen in bed lagen hebben we voor ‘t eerst gekust (in het donker, omdat ik niet durfde, haha). Soms bleef ik dan voor meerdere dagen bij hem, gezien hij niet vlakbij woonde.. en ik echt graag in zijn buurt was. Ik voelde me thuis bij hem. Hij vertelde regelmatig hoe hij mij zag als zijn toekomstige vrouw, kinderen van mij wou, voorstellen deed om samen te wonen (hij wou een deel van zijn huis inrichten als atelier).. wat me wel wat overweldigde en ik ‘m duidelijk maakte dat ik (nog) geen relatie wou. We maakten heel wat mooie herinneringen die periode. Zoals die keer dat we in de tuin zaten - ik aan ‘t tekenen, hij aan ‘t schrijven, beide in onze flow en persoonlijke bubbel - toen voelden we beide: dit is hoe ons ideaal leven er uit ziet - in alle vrijheid, maar toch in elkaars buurt. Af en toe gingen we wandelen in de buurt, we aten frietjes, hij filmde me regelmatig met de bedoeling ooit een kortfilm over mij te maken, ik leerde hem comics tekenen, .. we voelden ons zo comfortabel bij elkaar dat we niks gêne hadden. Het was alsof we al heel ons leven bij elkaar waren - niet persé fysiek, maar spiritueel. Hij was er toen al van overtuigd dat ik zijn laatste lief zou worden. Voor zijn verjaardag wou hij een uitstapje doen naar Oostende, gezien we beide liefhebbers zijn van de zee (Kreeften..). Daar zag ik ‘m voor ‘t eerst in interactie met andere mensen, en viel me zijn altruïstische kant op, hoe hij echt begaan was met anderen, sympathiek, lief, .. Ik besefte dat hij écht een goed hart had. Daarna gingen we uit eten aan de dijk, knus binnen onder verwarming terwijl het buiten miezerde. Al die herinneringen zijn me zo dierbaar, vooral met mijn huidig perspectief op de wereld - maar toen was dat wat vertroebeld door de conditionering en het worstelen met ons leeftijdsverschil, en dat ik in het begin me niet fysiek tot ‘m aangetrokken voelde. Ik durfde niet hand in hand lopen, omdat ik me dan zo bewust zou worden van iedereen die ons zou aankijken - hij had het daar zelf ook moeilijk mee. Laat staan dat ik vrijuit durfde vertellen aan mijn omgeving dat ik iets had met een vijftiger. In die periode deelde ik amper comics over onze relatie, en in mijn jaaroverzicht had ik er niets over verteld uit angst voor veroordeling terwijl het een hele belangrijke fase is geweest in mijn leven. Puur uit schaamte. Begin juli werd het me allemaal wat te veel en te intens; ik was pas moeten stoppen bij Essensium en druk op zoek naar een nieuwe job, sociale contacten onderhouden, ik miste de momenten waarbij ik in stilte met mijn comics bezig kon zijn omdat ik elk vrij moment met Bart aan het Skypen was.. En tevens met zijn aanhankelijkheid, wou ik wat afstand nemen, en de focus weer volop richten op mezelf. Ik miste mij. Een week of twee later hebben we nog ‘ns geSkypet, maar ik voelde dat ik daar geen tijd meer voor wou maken. Dat beviel hem niet zo, maar met respect zijn we dan toch elk onze eigen weg uitgegaan. Die lente van 2020 beschreven we achteraf als onze “pré-relatie”. Toen waren al heel wat triggers naar boven gekomen, vooral met betrekking tot het wennen aan dat leeftijdsverschil - hij was 58 geworden, ik was 29 jaar. Achteraf gezien was dat de meest spontane fase van ons proces, met niet al te veel conflicten en het elkaar leren kennen was spannend. Het voelde allemaal heel natuurlijk. Ondanks de verschillen, voelden we allebei een diepe zielconnectie die we nooit eerder bij een ander hadden gevoeld (hij had al een resem lieven gehad), en een energetische aantrekkingskracht die ons alsmaar samenbracht. Please read this first before reading my comic! This post is going to be pinned on my blog, and I’m going to update it with links to the new pages as they are released. As of right now, there is no clear release schedule as I am working in between a full-time job, anxiety, and my own creative process, but I assure you, I’ve never wanted to keep at something more than this comic. That being said, please bear in mind that there will probably be huge chunks of time in between drops. I’m trying my best! <3 

Why is it called “In the Ed?” It’s a parody on Linkin Park’s song, “In the End,” in which I drew heavy inspiration from. The story is also loosely based off the JRPG horror game called “Ao Oni.” and also the Hetalia version, “Heta Oni.” You may even remember my old fanfiction, “Ed Oni” in which this comic is going to be a rewrite of, if you’ve been in the fandom long enough anyhow. (Sorry it’s no longer available.) So Buckle the fuckle up y’all we in for a wild ride! 

(I seen @torra-and-the-toons do this before with their blog so I decided to something similar since some links for different things can get lost in my posts. If I ever add any more accounts, social medias, etc. I will update this. Let’s get this started..)

First, disclaimers: we all know Ed Edd n' Eddy doesn't belong to me, and the "Assassin AU" of the series is by "C2ndy2c1d". Secondly, it's recommended you zoom into the image for better quality, however possible. For more about this piece and my thoughts, click the "read more" below.

I decided to try my hand at writing the letters, instead of simply typing them out. I also went a little more free-handed with the speech bubbles. True, it doesn't look as "professional" now, but I'm able to fit more words in and it has more "personality," I guess is the right word? I think I'll keep doing so.

Luckily for Claire, it seems Sarah and Jimmy had their fill of fun... this time around. Hopefully, they're not as rough with the pup next time, but I'm not holding my breath. At least we can give them that they seem to know when to give it a rest and do seem to avoid actually harming the kid. … Well, physically, anyhow. Let's just say, Claire's capable of avoiding provoking Sarah into the usual violent rage-- and preventing any physical wrath on Jimmy's end also, given that he's supposed to be stronger and a fighter in this universe.

Interestingly enough, Sarah's treatment of Claire is inspired by how I'd imagine she'd be as an older sister than younger one. Personally, I think it'd be worse than YOU being the older one in the sibling relationship... At least Ed had the advantage of being able to intimidate Sarah when angry enough, since she likely knew someone bigger (and therefore stronger) than her would do a worse number on her than she could on them, if they really wanted to.

There'd likely be NO matter of fighting back if you're the younger sibling: she can still threaten to tell on you ("I'll tell Mom you were trouble while I watched you!"), she'd be even smarter against you because she'd have more years/experience under her belt, and she could beat you into an even worse state of bruises and broken bones! I mean, bigger and thus stronger, right? I'm sure a younger Ed, despite him still being physically strong, would've easily gotten curb-stomped the moment he screamed at Sarah in "Little Ed Blue," if SHE were the bigger and older one... At the very least, maybe Sarah could end up being a little more protective and nice at times, since there's that older sibling responsibility then? Still probably not worth being stuck in that position, though...

Of course, Jimmy tends to follow Sarah's lead, so Claire shouldn't exactly plan for him to be any nicer. Sorry, kiddo, you'd need extremities like bleeding out on the ground, or being a bothersome and complete sobbing mess to get treated a bit more pleasantly. Well, what else can ya expect, when you're essentially a literal living toy to the duo: a dolly and plushie combined? At least Claire can have the relief of knowing they wouldn't kill/maim her, and that it's not personal because you just know this duo will happily turn ANYONE into a living toy. How many times, now, have I mentioned the duo's main weaponization of acupuncture-- which is about manipulating muscles and the like-- and fan art like this?

I mean, I guess they COULD actually care about the kid, but only they'd know for sure.

Star Wars: de originele Marvel reeks

Star Wars fans hebben 4 mei natuurlijk al lang met een dikke stift op de kalender aangeduid. Want 'May the fourth' is natuurlijk Star Wars Day. Een ideale dag om eens terug te blikken op de originele Marvel Star Wars comics én uiteraard de Nederlandstalige versie daarvan bij Juniorpress 👉

Omgekeerde wereld

Bij comicversies van films is het eigenlijk bijna altijd zo dat de film eerst komt. Pas na eventueel succes op het witte doek volgt er dan een stripversie. Bij Star Wars verliep het echter anders. Eind jaren '70 besloot George Lucas nog tijdens de productie van zijn film al naar Marvel te stappen. Het leek hem een goed idee om zijn aankomende science fiction film te promoten met een eigen comic.

Stan Lee, toen nog de grote baas, was het idee aanvankelijk niet erg genegen. Maar nadat hij meer info kreeg over het script én te horen kreeg dat zijn favoriete acteur Alec Guinness zou meespelen gaf hij toch groen licht. Toch sleepte Lee er nog een goeie deal uit, want pas vanaf 100000 verkochte exemplaren zou Marvel een licentiekost moeten betalen aan Lucas.

Seven Samurai

Roy Thomas en Howard Chaykin namen de creatieve teugels in handen voor de eerste 6 (Amerikaanse) nummers. Die volgden het verhaal van de originele Star Wars-film. Bij ons zijn dat de eerste 3 nummers van de Juniorpress reeks.

Daarna begon het duo met het vertellen van originele verhalen, waaronder een op 'Seven Samurai' geïnspireerde plot met Han Solo en Chewbacca. Thomas introduceerde ook een nieuw karakter, Jaxxon. Maar deze groene, konijnachtige alien werd niet goed ontvangen werd door George Lucas.

Empire

Na het vertrek van Thomas nam Archie Goodwin het roer over. In 1979 werkte hij aan de stripversie van 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Die verscheen in de Amerikaanse nummers 39 tot 44. Deze werden niet mee opgenomen in de Juniorpress reeks, aangezien het verhaal eerder al als aparte special was verschenen bij Oberon.

Restricties

Doorheen de jaren wisselde het creatieve team van de Star Wars comics regelmatig. Walt Simonson en David Michelinie zijn waarschijnlijk enkele van de bekendste namen. Ondanks de strikte regeltjes en restricties die ze kregen van George Lucas over wat ze konden vertellen uit het Star Wars-universum, slaagden ze er toch in boeiende en vernieuwende verhalen te vertellen.

Specials

Bij Juniorpress liep de Star Wars serie 24 nummers lang tussen 1982 tot 1984. Dat waren maandelijkse uitgaven van 32 pagina's met telkens anderhalf Amerikaans nummer.

Daarna werd overstapt naar driemaandelijkse Specials van 64 pagina's. Die liepen nog 18 nummers tot 1988. Het laatste nummer was extra dik en is, net als de Amerikaanse tegenhanger, vaak moeilijker te vinden dan de eerdere nummers.

Inspiratie

Een opvallend figuur dat al redelijk vroeg in de Marvel reeks opdook (nummer 8 van de Juniorpress reeks) was de robot-hatende cyborg Beilert Valance. Hij maakte zijn opwachting al in 1978, lang voordat andere bountyhunters als Bobba Fett opdoken in de Star Wars saga. Later zou blijken dat de creatie van Bobba geïnspireerd was op Beilert én de Punisher, waar schrijver Archie Goodwin ook een aandeel in had. Ook de gelijkenis tussen Beilert en de Terminator, die pas in 1984 verscheen, is treffend.

Spinoffs

Naast de hoofdserie van Star Wars verscheen in de VS ook nog een aparte miniserie met de stripbewerking van de 3e film 'Return of the Jedi'. Die werd ook uitgegeven door Juniorpress als aparte filmspecial.

Daarnaast kwam er ook een vertaling van de Star Comics reeks over de Ewoks. Deze beertjes hadden het intussen tot een eigen tekenfilmserie geschopt, mét bijhorende comicreeks. De Juniorpress reeks hield het wel slechts 4 nummers vol.
