Luchesis and Nemesis as allegories of akuno’s concept of “karma” and the inevitability of fate in the series.
In the unfolding of the “punishment” novel, we discover that Nyoze Loop Octopus has a wife named Luchesis.
Nyoze and the country of Asmodean—That connection originated from his cherished wife, Luchesis. (“punishment”, chapter 8, scene 1).
The name of the character seems to be a reference to the greek goddess Lachesis.
Lachesis (in the context of greek mythology) was deemed as the third of the “sisters of fate”. Her other sisters were named Clotho and Atropos. Together, the three of them would determine the fate and life length of men, determining the moment of birth, their life, and the moment of death.
According to mythology, the roles of the three sisters in doing so were thus:
Clotho, the youngest of the three, would spin the thread of life; to her was assigned the beginning, the creation of life, and her thread was spun when a person was born.
There comes, Lachesis, the second sister, who decided on people’s fate throughout their lives. One’s fate was considered to be chosen from among a certain number of options. Lachesis was claimed to have used her rod to measure the thread of life, determining its length and nature.
Eventually, Atropos (known as the “goddess of death) was the one who cut the thread at the end. The individual to whom the thread was attached died as a result of such an action.
In greek mythology, because of the affirmation of the concept of the three sisters wholly deciding for living beings’ destiny, a strong idea of the inevitability of fate also began to form.
In fact, it was believed there couldn’t be any way for men to shape or change their destiny, since it had been decided by those entities beforehand, particularly by Lachesis herself: she would determine how much yarn each man was entitled to and decided the fate of the life she was spinning using white stamen mixed with gold threads to indicate happy days and black stamen mixed with gold threads to indicate days of misfortune.
Interestingly, the “evillious chronicles” also describe a world and multiple scenarios in which destiny cannot be changed for the most part.
We can see that in the “punishment” novel, with Gammon Loop Octopus’ attempt to kill Kiril in order to prevent the Levianta catastrophe from happening.
In the end, he is punished by “madam merry-go-round” for attempting such a feat…and the catastrophe happens anyway.
“Gammon. You just tried to disrupt time…we consider that insubordination. As the manager of time, we…will grant you ‘punishment’.” (“punishment”, chapter 6, scene 3).
Moreover, Nyoze’s quest in killing Hansel and Gretel before the release of the series’ “demons” also fails, as he arrives too late.
“I can guess what your aim here is. But you’re too late. The twins have already unleashed them—the ‘seven deadly sins’.”  (“punishment”, chapter 8, scene 2).
Luchesis's connection to the greek goddess is also relevant because of its connection to Nemesis, another greek goddess…and the other lover of Nyoze Octo.
Interestingly, Lachesis and Nemesis are both central figures in the philosophy and the “religion of nature” Carl Linnaeus cultivated in his lifetime.
A study about this subject has been written here with the title “Lachesis and Nemesis”.
In his philosophy, the man would put into contrast the “Lachesis naturalis” and the “Nemesis divina”.
Linnaeus calls the first the principle of causality (the principle according to which in nature a consequence derives from a cause), while the latter is equivalent to the principle according to which a crime must be followed by a punishment given accordingly to the first (according to ius talionis, the “eye for eye, tooth for tooth” principle).
According to Linnaeus, the principle of causality of nature (Lachesis naturalis) works as retributive justice, giving men a right punishment (Nemesis divina) according to their crimes in their life (without mention of an afterlife: the punishment takes place in the life on Earth, just as akuno’s concept of karma moves the succession of the events of the third period in his series).
Akuno’s concept of the “karma of evil” seems to remind one of the “Lachesis naturalis” walking hand in hand with the “Nemesis divina”: destiny working according to the purpose of giving what is due to the characters, according to their crimes.
The imagery of the gears could be an allegory of the principle of causality (Lachesis naturalis): a gear's turning is the cause of another gear's turning and so on...
In fact, the evillious chronicles seem to function according to this inescapable rule.
There were seven total in the world, and they each had a different demon dwelling inside them. Those who made contracts with these demons obtained various benefits to their bodies and spirits, but without exception all of them eventually came to receive an unhappy end.
Great “sins” always held a commensurate “punishment”—so it goes. (“judgement of corruption”, episode 7–your daughter is there; scene 4).
Once the gears start turning, there is no way to stop them: once the crime has been committed in the series, “destiny” will work towards the achievement of the commeasured punishment.

I think Meta should be able to have a happy life with her wife, children, her children's other mother figure, that other mother figure's boyfriend, two former forest spirits who are also in love, one of her children's mother figure from her third life that she also killed, and her other child's mother figure from his third life.

How the “tale of abandonment on a moonlit night” mirrors “moonlit bear” in the oss:” punishment” novel
Upon reading the newest portrayal of the “tale of abandonment on a moonlit night” in the “punishment” novel, I couldn’t help to think about how well that and the “moonlit bear” story mirrored each other.
I'll explain how under a cut.
Let’s talk about “moonlit bear” first.
We learn from the “crime” novel about how the “moonlit bear” episode happens while Eve Moonlit experiences a prolonged psychosis after her children die in the womb.
–Eve was currently pouring all her energy into child-rearing.
Twin children that existed only in her imagination.
No matter what Adam said to her, or how he tried to explain…
She never returned from her delusion. (“crime”, chapter 3, scene 17).
That’s an element: she is not completely in herself while kidnapping the babies.
Yet…even amidst her delusion, the woman seems aware of what she is trying to achieve: she is partially aware and conscious of her actions, even before she’s suddenly brought back to reality by Adam Moonlit. We have hints of that in every installment in which the “moonlit bear” event is told.
I’ll pick up the song, for simplicity’s sake, besides the short story and the novel contain a very similar account of what I want to show.
Notice how the lady speaks in a particular way about the “fruits”.
At long last I’ve found them
Finally I’ve found them
I certain don’t want
To do something like hand them over to anyone, to anyone (“moonlit bear”, song).
She rejoices at the fact that “finally”, “at long last” she has found them, meaning she has been searching for those fruits for a long time.
What is Eve Moonlit been searching for a long time? Some red fruits?
Of course not. It’s the children she had lost in her womb.
This is a clever hint of the fact she is aware of her intention of replacing her dead children, beneath her delusion.
There are more, even clearer hints of the woman’s awareness, though.
Notice how she begs the bear to forgive and overlook her.
This is yet another clue of Eve Moonlit’s awareness: she secretly knows she’s stealing the “fruits” from the bear and wishes for it to just forgive her and overlook her.
Later on however, a bear that
Made a scary face chases me
Please, forgive me
Please overlook me (“moonlit bear”, song).
This secret awareness of her crime is shown in the next lines, after those: she knows the fruits are that bear’s treasures, they belong to the bear and she’s stealing them.
I knew that in truth, these fruits
Are that bear’s treasures (“moonlit bear”, song).
Even after Adam Moonlit manages to bring Eve back to reality, the latter utters something interesting:
Even if reality tore me apart someday
With its fangs and claws
Those warm, kind fruits
I wanted them at any cost (“moonlit bear”, song).
Here she states how she has wanted those “warm, kind fruits” (again, those are not qualities you would associate with simple fruits, but rather, with children) at any cost, even if reality tore her apart someday.
Those lines can also be translated as: “even if I forcefully came back to reality and wholeheartedly realize my crime, I wouldn’t care, I had wanted those babies so much.”
That clearly implies her awareness of reality: she has known all along that the fruits were actually the bear’s treasures and she has stolen them away from her. The delusion Eve Moonlit is experiencing has been shielding her from the incapacity to cope with the loss of her children and from her own conscience, in her attempt to replace those babies with another pair.
Interestingly, the same theme of delusion and clouded mind covering for a secret understanding of a crime that is being committed is also seen in Hansel and Gretel, in the “tale of abandonment on a moonlit night” in the “punishment” novel.
From the third scene of the 8th chapter of the novel, we learn that Hansel and Gretel are aware enough of a lot of truth surrounding their parents and the circumstances of their abandonment.
In particular, they have known that there was a food shortage in their house, that Levianta has been annihilated, and that the other countries were too far to reach.
Their parents have told them they are going to another country to gather up some food, yet, the twins knowing the aforementioned things don’t believe them and come to the realization that they probably wouldn’t have come back from their trip to the forest.
As their trip continues, they connect the dots, understanding the reason for their abandonment: their parents want to get rid of them, so they don’t have to feed them anymore.
But that is not the only reason: we read that as time went by, Eve Moonlit’s mental state improved, yet, she started to behave less kindly to the twins:
Mother’s illness had seemed to be getting better, little by little.
The number of times she did strange things seemed to go down, but at the same time, she was becoming less kind.
The times she would make a scary face at Hänsel would go up. It was as though she saw some sort of monster or ghost standing there, when she looked at Hänsel and Gretel. (“punishment”, chapter 8, scene 3).
From the novel, we don’t get Eve Moonlit’s thoughts and reasons for the abandonment of her children, only a bunch of clues; one of them is this one: apparently, as she goes back to a clear perception of reality, she starts to see her children in a less positive light than before, making scary faces when looking at her children.
Under her delusion, the woman has desired Hansel and Gretel, hoping that they would replace her dead ones, or thinking that she has found her dead children back, even.
I wonder why this is so.
I personally come up with two motivations behind this:
As her delusion, wears off, though, she realizes how these are actually not her beloved children, and that nothing can ever replace them; the mental anguish over losing her own kids remains, despite having the other pair. She has just pretended and deluded herself into the possibility of replacing them and healing her heart that way, but that has been all a lie.
Having realized that reality, Eve Moonlit doesn’t hold her children dear, as she used to.
The other motivation is hinted at in the novel, in the same scene: the Moonlit twins have been afraid of “karma”: for “punishment” of their kidnapping to come at them someday. For that reason, they both plan to drive them away from their presence, so that they could avoid the consequences of their actions.
Ironically, the consequences of their actions have come at them, once the abandonment has taken place.
From all of this, you can see that Hansel and Gretel are aware enough of the circumstances of their abandonment.
Despite that, a slightly distracted reader may say: “no, there is no way Hansel and Gretel could have been aware of their actions while killing their parents; they’re under the effect of hallucinogenic mushrooms.”
Well, it’s true they’re under that kind of influence, but…again…like in “moonlit bear”, they secretly know what they’re doing, despite all of that.
A clue of the situation be so is the accurate description that the twins make of the “witch” they want to defeat.
“I once heard something. That a witch lives in this forest. The witch of the forest uses a spoon instead of a staff, and she can reduce all to ashes with lightning.” (“punishment”, chapter 8, scene 4).
What a peculiar description…it looks like they are describing their adoptive mother, doesn’t it?
This can be a hint at the fact the twins know they are going after their mother, not a generic witch in their imagination, while under the influence of drugs.
Also, notice the reference to the “crime” novel.
–They say that the witch of the forest uses a blue spoon instead of a staff.  (“crime”, chapter 2, scene 1).
That’s not the only hint we get of the twins’ awareness, though.
Under the drug’s influence, the twins imagine the house of the “witch” as made up of candy (like the original tale of Hansel and Gretel, I love those continuous references throughout the scenes).
At some point, Hansel and Gretel get to the “witch’s house”; the first, thinking it’s made up of candy thinks about eating some, but the latter stops him, thinking it might be a trap of the witch.
That’s interesting: it may be a clue that at least Gretel knows that the house is the real deal, not just a candy house.
The biggest clue, though, is found at the moment Gretel pushes her mother inside the oven.
The witch’s scream resounded through the room like lightning.
There was the sound of her pounding on the oven door.
Gretel covered her ears, and cowered there on the spot.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” she murmured over and over again, not knowing why.
She’d defeated the evil witch.
That was all she’d done, and yet for some reason she couldn’t stop crying. (“punishment”, chapter 8, scene 5).
At the very moment Gretel kills the evil witch, she can’t stop apologizing and crying, covering her ears and cowering on the spot.
Why is that?
I really doubt she would have had such a reaction over killing a generic witch under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms: she must have known she has killed her mother, and she was getting pangs of conscience over it.
Do you see how the tale of the twins and of their mother is so similar? Both commit their evil acts while their conscience is blurred by something (either by a drug or a mental condition), yet…they still have a secret awareness of what they’re actually doing.
With the similarity of the “tale of abandonment on a moonlit night” to a “moonlit bear”, the author wants to signal how his conception of “karma” follows the logic of the “law of retaliation” (eye for eye, tooth for tooth), providing a commensurate and in nature similar “punishment” to the “crime” that has been committed (in the novel’s case the crime committed by Eve Moonlit).
I know that the eye for eye principle is typical of the Mosaic Law, but in akuno's and Linneaus' cases, they don't actually believe in God.
In their conception, retribution is given by nature, which directs its cause-effect laws according to the eye to eye principle (what they call lachesis naturalis and nemesis divina).
It's more like a rule of the world for them (like gravity is), rather than the Hand of God actively dispensing punishment.
It's a worship of an impersonal nature.
In fact, akuno, in his works considers the "karma" principle as part of the rules of the "third period", rather than active punishment from God.

I just finished reading Prefacio of Blue and I really love the connection of last chapter to epilogue - with both Mikina and Gallerian falling into greed while wishing just the best for their families. Also I don't know If that was accidental but I checked Mikina's birth year - 473 EC and then the epilogue is happening 473 years later which is a very cool detail. I mean the more I read the more I see how mothy is the master of small details or foreshadowings that tie everything together - for example Elluka's lil crush on Keel cause he resembles Kiril and also dislike for Mikina cause she looks like Milky, the whole Ney thing ( I regret that I spoiled myself her lore before so much), the fact that there's a place called hall of MIRRORS, and there's also a secret passage under the fireplace (hansel and gretel reference), germaine & running away which maybe is a stretch but reminds me of both Meta and also Carlos - and ofc her Banica's resemblance. Also the last line of Epilogue, mothy you madman!

6 1/2 year long special interest on evillious feels like I've been serving a prison sentence. My cellmate is Elluka and she is sitting there denying she's levia, and karchess dresssed up as me after I asked for his help after hansel and gretel destroyed the lunch room. Mothy is trying to get me to explain the plot of ec after retconning 6 songs. Seth is asking me who I think the frog is and he laughs when I answer. My life is hell

I'm imagining an au where there are ACTUAL trials in evils theatre.
But what is weird is that the dead... seem to come back to life for trials to defend themselves, defend others or even sue people?
At first the theatre crew and the dead are like "yo wtf" but they get used to it. Most of the dead are in trials once or twice but there are several of them who are there A LOT.
Also by triaI mean someone says:
(Insert Name) is guilty of this and this
And then everyone involved participates in the discussion like: were they actually guilty, their reasons, outside reasons and what the victim says etc.
So my ideas for this:
Michaela is a regular member, forming a body out of roots and shit to either participate or observe trials bc that's how she gets amusement out of life as a tree
Gammon managed to get Lilith a guily verdict over the green hunting, she didn't speak to him for a month(no one knows if it was bc she regretted it or bc she was angry at him or both)
The punishment for being found guilty is cleaning and doing the chores of the theatre for a week
Gammon constantly tries to get the theatre members convicted bc of this
Nemesis regains her memories bc i want her to once every two months and causes the BIGGEST trials bc she has dirt on everyone
She once got Irina(who isn't always the judge) to be convicted for the Lioness Burning Incident
Gumillia is sick of this bs because she gets summoned to trials all the damn time bc of her partnership w Seth
When they need to call a dead person as witness they just shout that person's name and they appear
Everyone thinks it Gumillia raising the dead but its actually Luna Hazuki bc this is the most fun she has had in a millenium
She just watches everything from her secret base
If a dead person is found guilty, the entire court has to individually insult said person
Ron Grapple once accused Hansel and Gretel of his murder and won the case bc he was ABC's son and Irina liked him
The graveyard crew were shocked
Nyoze the loop octopus version once cleared up a case about the 7th project MA and never came again
Gammon couldn't process it
Michelle Marlon got MA convicted for not paying child support on two different occasions
Rahab Barisol once emerged out of MA and shit talked Lich
Clarith was accused of not being on the side of justice bc she didn't kill Riliane, coincidentially, Michaela went apeshit in that trial
Clarith also testified that riliane repented which had some ppl surprised
Ma tried to convict gretel for the murder of Mariam, they called her spirit and she literally said "idc"
Behemo makes Ace Attorney references whenever he's there
"That autopsy report is...OUTDATED!"
Nemesis was convicted for the destruction of Levianta(the Magic Kingdom)
Germaine sues Irina for all sorts of shit
No one managed to call on Allen Avadonia
Luna and Sickle kinda argued on this but Luna respected Sickle's decision(basically torturing a 14 year old :/)
They summomed Gallerian multiple times and his response was always "lmao who cares? im evil and i embrace it"
Irina can never trash talk him when he loses trials
Adam managed to get Gammon convicted for identity fraud bc of his past life...somehow
It was total bull and everyone knew that he had bribed Irina
Adam also got Seth convicted for child abuse
Dozens of women sued Venomania and he never won
Not even once
He did win a case against his asshole father though
Muzuri Conchita sued Irina for the curse on his household and he won the case
Elluka Chirclatia sued Nemesis, Mayrana Blossom and Ma for understandable reasons
Pride arc people sued the shit out of Prim, she didn't manage to win ANYTHING
Interestingly, the most ferocious person during her stuff was Banica bc of what she had done to Ney
Lemy sued Gumillia for his murder but the court was so split that they decided to convict neither side and never brought up the case again
It just gave everyone migraines
Adam and Eve tried to sue H&G for their murders but then H&G sued them for neglect, so they called it even
Eve was nearly convicted for the Toragay incident but no one could prove it was her (Nemesis wasn't there and Irina was interested in her defense)
Loki Freezis and Gallerian Marlon had an epic stand off
Kayo Sudou apologised for murdering Mei, Rin and Miku Miroku so they gave her a less harsh sentence which involved only the 3 victims insulting her
No one cared about Kai's death
The Pere Noel members of the 1st iteration(bc most members of the second are all alive until 999) had a LOT of cases
Kaspar tried to make a case against Eve but ignoring that he couldn't prove it was her, no one in the court sympathized with him
Eve and Adam had a shouting match with Seth cheering on from the sidelines until they realized he was their common enemy and ripped him to shreds(figuratively)
Kiril Clockworker nearly got convicted for Pale Noel's stuff, but they couldn't prove anything y'know? He was blamed a little for the catastrophe tho
Catherine Derais once came and she and Rahab were brutal
Brutal for Rahab mostly
All the sinners and the demons sued each other several times
They all got different verdicts each time lol
Sickle is against Luna interfering but doesn't say anything
Eater actually got all heated up in a case against Held once
Arth defended Lich in said case
Lich was so moved
Ney defended herself by saying that Michaela looked like Eve in Michaela's murder trial
No one took it seriously except Hansel and Banica
Nemesis nearly got in trouble for Nyoze's murder but Nyoze(the octo ver) said that her innocence was non-negotiatable
Mira Marlon sued Gallerian for cheating on her and won the case
Nemesis sued Held for not doing shit as a god
Surprisingly Irina, who benefitted the most from his inaction, agreed and he was found guilty
Gumillia was attacked several times for her aiding Elluka Clockworker with crimes and once she claimed that Elluka Clockworker never existed bc she was actually levia behemo, she wasn't elluka chirclatia and ergo elluka clockworker never existed and that Gumillia couldn't have POSSIBLY helped her do crime
The court just took a minute to process this in silence
"I hold nothing BUT contempt for this court." -Germaine, absolutely sick of this bullshit
But that quote could be anyone tbh
This is really long but the ideas just kept coming to me. I find it funny when characters are confronted with their actions, even if it is comedy like this
Honestly Evils Theatre SHOULD have had more trials
it would have been so fun

I was just remembering how in "OSS: P", Hansel and Gretel ate some mushrooms to survive in the woods(and how they may or may not be hallucinogenic).
I was just sitting there like: Ok, maybe because I haven't visited EC's wiki page on "Bolganio Wildlife" in a while, but I totally called it, "it" being the fact that there were mushrooms during the Magic Kingdom era.
I say this because I was doing some EC roleplaying with @tomgonzo34 and I invented magic mushrooms for it, the mushrooms in question are native to Magic Kingdom Levianta for the purpose of potion brewing, it was thought to be extinct due to the Levianta Catastrophe, but his OC Tom(the Demon of Discord) was able to find some underground just nearby Lunaca Labora.
I totally called it by accident XD
