I bought a hat this weekend. Now, I don’t usually buy hats unless I’m absolutely enamored by the place, the team, the person - and the way they made me feel - bc a) they’re usually overpriced & b) I quite literally become a walking billboard for their brand. So let’s back up … anyone who knows me knows I work hard & love to “work.” Sometimes I’m in the studio editing vocals past midnight bc I really wanna meet that unreasonable deadline I made for myself. And I love it. So vacations are rare for me and I forced myself to not “work” while up in the Eastern Sierras last week. Started off in Bridgeport / the Twin Lakes area and got to drive a little aluminum boat for the first time (after this, my dad sent me a picture of him in the same kind of boat back when he was little and that was really quite cool to see). Spent the day on the lake, watched the clouds roll in, feel the California rain on my skin and bathe in nature’s splendor. That night I saw more stars than I ever have & found myself dizzy attempting to count them all. One of my best friends and her family drove up to spend the night there on their way to Tahoe and we got to watch the Flower Girl and the Ring Bearer from my wedding decorate giant Christmas trees with lanterns and light up boomerangs. Next up was Mammoth. Trees rose in volume and size as we climbed up the mountain. Regal like the crests of a crown, surrounded, I held my breath and felt I was home. We stayed at the cutest little airbnb within the Westin, with the cutest little window nook overlooking the heated cerulean blue pool. The Village could have been plucked right out of a European adventure film and everyone in town welcomed Louie as the coolest dog they’d ever seen. Louie completed quite the marathon by hiking the entirety of Convict Lake & before we’d left, I knew I needed to return. Sometimes Los Angeles feels like a bubble. Help us to protect the area’s iconic plant: Sagebrush. 2 Ways you can help: Keep crash pads within delineated areas at the Happys, Sads, Buttermilks, and any other local climbing area. Refrain from tethering your dogs to plants at the crag, which causes damage🐶. The Sage here is fragile and often looks dead but will spring to life with new growth after precipitation🌧. Alternative place to tether your dog: The Rocks! Pics 2-6 show a few simple gear anchors: Cams, Nuts, and Tricams (which can act as a Cam or a Nut). Place the gear in a crack in solid rock and use anywhere from 1 to 3 bomber pieces to tether your dog. On a budget? Tricams are relatively inexpensive, versatile, and fit into tight spots that cams will not. Ask a friend for hand-me-downs: Your trad-stoker friend probably has an extra set of cobweb-covered Tricams looking for a new home 🕷. While backpacking up to the Big Pine Lakes & Palisades Glacier early October, I paused to pay tribute to the Altar of the Aspens, & all the amazing aspens along the trail. . Very warm this late up here, so aspens were just shifting into yellow on the way up, & with a red tinge on the way down. Last year late September many aspens already well red with snow in the air—this year still hot hot hot. .
