this may sound a bit like a convoluted theory, but i don't think darling was originally apple's princess charming. and i don't mean i don't think the writers originally planned it — i mean, i think that in-universe darling was not supposed to be the one who saved apple.
i do think that daring was actually apple's original prince. however, when raven decided to give everyone their page rather than having them sign it, they gained the ability to change their stories without even trying or knowing they were doing so.
apple is a lesbian, and so with her newfound freedom, her story automatically rewired itself into having a woman be her true love rather than a man. same with daring — instead of saving apple, his destiny was then changed to be with rosabella, someone who he could genuinely fall in love with.
essentially, i'm saying there's two types of love in ever after: the romances that come with your destiny (apple & daring) and a soulmate relationship that only comes into existence when you take your destiny into your own hands (apple & darling, ashlynn & hunter, daring & rosabella).

Ever After High Switched Destiny AU
Okay so I’ve been reading the books and watching the series (haven’t completely finished them yet so bare with me) and I have a theory/AU.
So we know you can’t choose your destiny, that’s the whole thing right? But we see Poppy and Holly O’Hair (the twins) and they thought Holly was the eldest so she was suppose to be the next Rapunzel (and she liked that) and Poppy just wanted to find her own legacy. However, as it turns out, Poppy is the eldest but neither of them wants to switch their positions so they keep it a secret and we are made to assume the Book of Legends will give Holly the Rapunzel destiny anyways.
Also even though people can take a good guess which Charming will be the next prince to each story (e.g Daring supposedly being Apple’s prince), it’s not certain (e.g. we’re all pretty sure Darling is Apple’s ‘prince’ and Daring is the prince/beast from Beauty and the Beast which is fitting for their personalities).
If the Rapunzel sisters can “switch fates” but the Charming siblings supposedly can’t, it must mean that it’s chosen by personality/whoever fits best.
Not to mention the Red Riding Hood/Bad Wolf sisters.
All this is to say that my theory is that not everyone’s destinies will be what people expect, it’s more who’s more suited for the role.
I know there’s already a theory that Apple and Raven were switched at birth but my AU is that their respective parents are in fact their parents BUT their destinies are switched!
So Apple White is the next Evil Queen and Raven Queen is the next Snow White. (Although I also really love the Darling Charming and Apple White duo for their destinies).
This fits with their respective personalities I think - Apple always wanting to force things to go her way even releasing the Evil Queen to get what she wants, and Raven who just wants peace and choice.
Hope I managed to put all this in a way you can understand. Thanks!

Its been a while since I’ve actually sat down to discuss EAH lore or anything EAH related in general. I got a good amount of promps but right now I wanted to focus on one that was submitted to me by @birdbombs714 regarding my thoughts on Alistair and Lizzie’s relationship
Thank you so much for this idea! And happy birthday! (Edit: Where I live it’s already almost 1am so in my time zone, it’s technically the day after as I’m posting this so I’m a bit late. I’m so Sorry. I meant to post this sooner 😭) Thought I’d dedicate this one to you as a little gift if you will! Hope you enjoy :)
Something I find really interesting regarding Alistair and Lizzie in general is the fact that they’re one of very few “future villain and hero” duos that dont seem to have any sort of tense relationship. On the contrary, all the wonderlandians seem to have been good friends from a very young age. But as the characters destined to be the next Alice and the next Queen of Hearts, its very refreshing seeing these two just being friends with no real hard feelings towards each other. Like it honestly makes me wonder what kind of relationship their moms had.
You know I love going into the parents lore when it can provide an expansion on the children’s lore so lets talk about Alice and the Queen of Hearts real quick, both in the context of EAH and in the Alice in wonderland story. In the context of EAH, I don’t think they were ever super close friends like Alistair and Lizzie, but I do think they had a good deal of respect for each other even before committing to their stories. There never seems to be any implication that Lizzie’s mom hated Alistairs mom, which I actually find quite fitting given their characterization in the original story. What’s interesting about their dynamic in the original Alice in wonderland story is the fact that their dynamic isn’t really influenced by something personal like a good amount of fairytale hero and villain duos (for example: Snow White and the Evil Queen). Instead, it’s influenced by the fact that Alice finds herself in a place where all rules and logic work differently, hence why she runs into so many weird and frustrating misunderstandings with the characters. The Queen of Hearts is a temperamental tyrant whose bad side is very easy to get on given the amount of people she executes for petty reasons. Alice just so happens to especially gets on her bad side for the simple reason that Alice doesn’t know how to navigate the logic of the world shes in, and as a result she accidentally does and says things that go against the logic and customs of wonderland and as a result, especially piss off the Queen.
With that said, lets talk about how this translates over to Lizzie and Alistair. I’ve talked about this in the past, but I wholeheartedly subscribe to the theory that the reason Alistair’s last name is “Wonderland” instead of “Liddel” like Alice in the original story, is because during the Evil Queen’s takeover, Alice probably either disappeared or died (this is also potentially supported by the fact that we see all of the wonderlandians’ parents at some point with the exception of Alice), and so, Alistair was sort of co-parented and raised by all the other wonderlandians parents in Wonderland. And so, they renamed him from “Alistair Liddel” to “Alistair Wonderland” as a sort of tribute to both his mother and the world. We know Alistair canonically grew up in Wonderland unlike his mother, so he’s used to the logic and customs of the place despite the narrative of his story’s legacy saying otherwise. He quite literally grew up around Lizzie and the others and I actually attribute this to Lizzies relationship to her destiny. We know from her bio information that while she wants to follow her destiny, Lizzie wants to be a less villainous, kinder Queen of Hearts than her mom, and even then it’s implied her mom wasn’t actually that bad and became a lot more temperamental as a result of the wonderland curse (hence why I also think in the context of EAH, Alice and the Queen of Hearts didn’t dislike each other that much. ). Because Alistair and her were raised right alongside the other wonderlandians, Lizzie has no reason to dislike Alistair the way the Queen of Hearts does to Alice in the original story. On the contrary, she considers him one of her closest friends. Obviously, she probably has other reasons, but her friendship with Alistair is probably one reason she wants to be more lenient in her future reign.
That analysis aside, I definitely think they’re just friends, nothing romantic. I know some people ship them but I personally prefer Lizzie with Maddie and Kitty over anything. Also this is a 100% on the writers but when compared to Lizzie, Kitty, and Maddie, Alistair and especially Bunny’s characterization suffers pretty greatly, I feel. Mainly because most of their individual screentime is dedicated to their romantic feelings for each other, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but the way their relationship is portrayed frustrates me so much so I don’t really pay much attention to it. As a result though, it makes shipping Alistair with anyone else in his friend group also really hard, because when compared to someone like Lizzie who has a lot of development, he doesn’t feel as fleshed out, yknow. This isn’t Alistair slander, its just my personal view. When thinking of the 5 wonderlandians as a group, I think of them as a sort of found family more than anything. And as far as romantic shipping goes, I mainly focus on Lizzie, Kitty, and Maddie as a sort of poly relationship. But anything is valid as long as its not illegal, obviously.
I apologize if this feels really unorganized and convoluted but I had a lot of thoughts and I was trying my best to fit them in this post in a way that felt correlated 😭. But anyway, I don’t talk about Lizzie that often even though shes my favorite wonderland and overall right up there in my top 5 favorite characters in Ever After High so this enabled me to talk about her a pretty good bunch ❤️

A post on Duchess’s family!!
Canonically Duchess was raised by either her grandmother or the servants of the castle I believe BUT I said no to that because I just did. So in my retelling of Swan Lake, Odette has a younger sister by the name of Oliviet (Oh-liv-e-et). The story continues as it always does except eventually as the eldest daughter is cursed to remain a swan and the would be king died tragically (drowned in the same lake her mother is cursed to forever roam, a constant reminder of her loss), Oliviet becomes the Queen and takes over the kingdom.
Sometime later Duchess is born magically on the night of a full moon, gifting her the power to transform from a swan to a girl. Her father is unknown. Around the same time, a baby Raven Queen is left on the steps of the palace. In the bassinet that holds her a note explains of her mother’s banishment and the disappearance of the Good King. It is unknown who left Raven there and why.
A few years later, Duchess and Raven live as sisters in the palace with their mother(though technically she is neither of their mothers by blood she is a mother all the same), and Duchess’ biological sister, Princess, is born. It is unknown who her father is as well.
TLDR: Raven was adopted by Duchess’ aunt and she has a little sister named Princess.
Also peep some old designs of Odile, Odette, and Marcassia. As it is stated Marcassia is the daughter of Odile and destined to ruin Duchess’ life.

Im kinda losing my mind over the Switched At Birth theory with Apple and Raven-
It's fr so interesting to me- tho whether it's true or not is for debate- it's a theory after all- but thinking about Apple's mirror and how like- what if one day the mirror tells her that Raven's the fairest of them all and not her and she just like- 'im sorry? I'll ask again-'
It's driving me a little crazy- so I'm just going drown in it- *drowns*

Due to popular demand: the "Everyone is forever tied to their story" theory!
My theory goes like this:
In Ever After there's this magic, let's call it Destiny Magic, that is responsible for the retelling of the fairytale stories, and it's devided between the character that plays a role in the story and the Storybook of Legends.
The book is in some way capable of storing the magic and releasing it to each student once they sign.
I think joining the magic from the book with the magic from the person makes the stories happen - we know the book gave Raven access to her full powers and made her evil, just like a higher yeah witch that is mentioned in the book The Storybook of Legends. Still, in some way it could be controlled (some examples are Raven becoming good again, Red and Wolf's whole romance, the slight tweaking of the story so the Candy Witch wouldn't die, and of course the Evil Queen's rebellion after poisoning Snow White)
But when Raven destroyed the book that magic became harder to control and instead of following the direct path it had been doing for years it became unpredictable.
Now here are the clues I used for my theory:
Darling and Apple
Apple's whole journey during Dragon Games is more or less what Snow White goes through on her story:
She gets into a confrontation with the Evil Queen, which results on her getting banished from her castle/school and seeks refuge in the forest with the help of the forest creatures. After learning she survives, the Evil Queen tries to poison her with an Apple (don't take my word as fact but I think in some versions she sends a bird instead of going herself, so we have more parallels there). Here is where Snow White begins her eternal sleep until the Prince Charming awakens her.
Sidenote: in the Brothers Grimm version Snow White chokes on an actual piece of the apple, just like Apple does in Dragon Games.
So yeah, even if their stories start differently it's pretty clear that this was meant to be a recreation of the original Snow White.
Daring and Rosabella
Another obvious parallel; Daring's whole arc is learning that external beauty isn't everything with the help of Rosabella.
I won't make a direct comparison since with these two is mostly about the morals of the The Beauty and the Beast story, but I'll mention that both started with the Beast getting turned into a beast by a magical being wanting to teach them a lesson; the rest is pretty self-explanatory.
Justine
Since she was first introduced during Dragon Games there isn't much information about her, but I noticed that in the webisode Moonlight Mystery her sleepdancing is treated as if it was a recent thing, which I want to believe might be because of the Destiny Magic making her dance all night like in her story.
There's also other points in eah where the Destiny Magic appears, these don't happen after Way Too Wonderland so I only count them as evidence that, at least at some point, the characters were tied to their stories.
Holly and Poppy
The book Truth or Hair was released after WTW but it doesn't give any indication of actually following the movie storyline so I'll be counting as part of the pre-WTW evidence.
In this book, Holly's hair starts to get shorter and shorter and Poppy's doesn't stop growing and has returned to her natural color. They (and I) believe this is because of the Destiny Magic.
Cerise, Cedar and Daring
In the book A Wonderlandiful World all the characters except the wonderlandians get turned into objects or animals that resemble their name or have some significance in their story.
I want to focus particularly on these three because I think there's more than just pure coincidence in their transformations.
Cedar turns into a real girl, it's kinda obvious considering her story but I'd like to believe this also proves that the magic inside of her turned Cedar into a real girl because that's her happily ever after. They could have chosen to turn Cedar into an inanimate object, a literal puppet, like they did with other students like Apple or Ashlynn, but instead she became a real girl like in her story.
In Daring's case, he turned into a monkey-like beast. This can be a cleae foreshadowing of his actual destiny as the next Beast.
In this book Cerise gets turned into a small wolf, I think the writers wanted to hint to the idea of Cerise actually being the next Big Bad Wolf and I wish we could've seen more of it.
Duchess
When she was a kid, her swan transformation started appearing; instead of being cursed by a wizard, the transformation appeared randomly - maybe this also has to do with the Destiny Magic.
I still think they can controll this magic, like the twins did in Truth or Hair or even Briar and Faybelle during the dream secuence of Epic Winter; it'd just take more willpower.

Faybelle isn’t the actual “Daughter of The Dark Fairy.”
When Evil Queen took the Role from Faye’s mother, Evil took that title both figuratively and literally and now the Thorns doesn’t hold the title, meaning that Raven is also technically the next Dark Fairy.
This is why Faybelle is desperate to become the Next Dark Fairy so she can return to her family what’s important. This is why Faybelle was desperate to get on Evil’s good side in Dragon Games in hopes that Evil would choose her to be the next Dark fairy.

You know... this is unlikely... but they could use Draculaura's witch craft as a bridge of sorts to bring back EAH. Like. She could accidently open a portal to EAH, or accidentally transport herself there, or she could transport someone over to MH... Cupid for either of the last situations, maybe... hm. Maybe someone could write a fic for this when we get a better grasp at the characters' potentially new personalities.- NHA
Yeah! That's a good way to connect them! Plus, witchcraft is a "human art" and also banned at MH for whatever reason, this could mean that
1. Humans could have gone to Ever After. This could be supported(?) by the fact that there are a LOT of humans there
2. There's more to witchcraft than meets the eye... maybe the "more" is that it's really powerful and was used to send monsters to another realm as banishment? (Reminds me of this old theory of mine)
And it's still better than Astranova being the link because like how??? She's space and sci-fi and she nor her genre ever made an appearance in EAH.

I know some people hate the raven and apple switched-at-birth theory, but think about the angst
my ideas feel like they would take place before any of the specials yk
Apple finding out and not being able to take solace in the safety of her destiny because it wasn't "meant for her"
Apple possibly being shunned by the royals if they found out
Raven realizing how different her childhood could have been, and how she wouldn't have been bullied in nursery-rhyme school or have dealt with her mother

I've just rewatched the dragon games and realized that in fact everyone in the Snow White fairy tale has already received their destiny
raven: signed the book in "way to wonderland", but at the moment (when the book no longer exists) she can choose her own destiny — like poppy o'hair
apple was poisoned by the evil queen, woke up from the kiss of a handsome prince — and now, after fulfilling the key moments of her fairy tale, she can live happily ever after
darling performed a heroic act — as she wanted — and woke up the princess with a kiss
daring became the Beast and would be rosabella's prince.
everyone on whom the main storyline was based got their destiny to the end of dragon games. next special — the epic winter — based on story of another kingdom, we also learned more about the lives of other characters who do not belong to the tale of Snow White

if we're sharing secrets here, i've never fully understood where the good king falls into place with the snow white story and why the evil queen married him.
it's implied that the evil queen actually did marry snow's father — meaning there was snow's late mother who passed away when snow was a young girl, and then her father whom married the evil queen not long after.
it can be up to interpretation on whether or not the king died or if he ended up getting to have a happily ever after after the snow white story played out and he was reunited with her daughter and her then prince. either way, the evil queen married snow's father and then snow married the prince who kissed her in the forest.
so why does the good king exist? sure, the evil queen needed another person in order to have raven, buy we never hear about lizzie's or faybelle's fathers, or maddie's mom. raven is the main character, so i suppose it makes sense the books would want to expand on her parents, but it still feels jumbled to me.
the evil queen had no reason to re-marry. unless the good king needed to get married in his destiny (which is unknown) then it would seem like it's an out of destiny marriage; which would make sense for the evil queen to want, except she doesn't seem to actually love the good king nor share values with him so it seems unlikely to be a marriage of love and choice.
the only alternative i can think of besides the good king needing to marry an evil woman for his story, is if he's actually the good king in their snow white story. this would mean the evil queen didn't actually marry snow's father, but instead was just a queen who discovered there was a girl more fair than her and sought out to kill the stranger.
i feel like this could actually make sense, not just for this story but for a few. perhaps as the stories continue, the destinies begin to stop relying on exact family relations due to the concerns of complications like incest and whatnot. another example of this could be that instead of ashlynn then having an evil step-mother, perhaps she gets stuck with an evil aunt after her parents die.
you'd have to sort out the details with snow's parents and everything — maybe the both died when snow was young and the evil queen and the good king took over rule of the kingdom until snow was of age or properly prepared? and then the evil queen found out about snow being more beautiful than her and tried to kill her behind the king's back, which means he didn't have to die and could have continued to survive and later raise raven.
but then again, it was still implied that the evil queen did actually marry snow's father, which cast this whole new theory aside. overall, this problem wouldn't exist if they would just pinpoint which good king raven's father is supposed to be and expand on his destiny or literally just tell us why he married the evil queen.

One thing about the Ever After High swapped at birth theory that I don’t understand/ haven’t seen an explanation for is why and who.
Why and who swapped Raven and Apple? It could have been the Grimm brother(s) but on why is what I’m stuck on.
This is just one reason why I made my swapped destiny AU. I just can’t seem to get an answer for this.
Can anyone give an explanation?

As of lately I’ve seen a lot of people theorizing that in EAH, when someone completes their destiny, it either completely strips them of their original birth names or they loose the memories attached to said name. And I would like to possibly debunk this theory cause there is evidence against it.
I’ve brought up in the past that I’m of the belief that the famous storybook names the parents are known for (example: Snow White, Red Riding Hood, The Cheshire Cat, ect.) are actually just titles that acknowledge them as the people that lived the stories and emphasizes their fame as iconic storybook characters. I believe that just like their kids they have regular (albeit punny) first names that they were given by their parents, and even when they carry this title of the character they are, they still go by their given names in casual situations.
What do I mean by “casual”? Well, take a look at just about every interaction the parents have both in the books and the show. The parents for pretty much all of the franchise, the interactions we see them have are familial or profesional. By familial, I obviously mean the interactions they have with their children, who as we can expect, adress them as “mom/dad”. By professional, I’m talking about the moments when they are addressed by characters like the narrators or the school staff. These are the characters who address them by their storybook characters titles. And it makes sense for characters like these to address the parents in such a profesional way. Since the narrators tell the stories, it makes sense they address them by the names they are well known and respected by. As for the school staff, aside from respect, they literally run a school dedicated to making sure everyone plays the roles they are assigned, and also its not as if any of them developed a close relationship with any teacher outaide of professionalism.
What I’m trying to say is the parents don’t really ever get an opportunity to interact casually or in a friendly way with anyone. In fact, we barely get to see the parents interact with each other at all. The few times they do interact, the interactions aren’t what you’d call a friendship. Like, I’d like to assume that many parents have friendships with each other that date back to their school years, where they occasionally catch up as adults, and THATS the kind of interaction where they’d refer to each other by their first names, but we never get any interactions to show that. The few we get show relationships of professionalism or rivalry. I mean, Snow White and The Evil Queen despise each other obviously, and in Fairy’s Got Talent, we see a few interactions between the Dark Fairy and the Candy Witch but it feels more like a respectful acquaintanceship rather than a friendship. And even then, when referring to each other they call each other “comrades”, not “friends”. See, while I’m sure they do exist in the EAH universe, we never get to see a duo of parents who have that sort of “we became friends in high school, and now we have separate lives but we catch up over wine occasionally” type of friendship. All and all, this means that the main reason most of the parents dont get a confirmed first name in canon is because we get almost no chance to have an interaction where the character is addressed as such.
Notice how I said “most”. Cause here is where I drop the piece of evidence that debunks the “destiny strips one of their original identity” theory. We actually do get a parent character with a canon first name that isnt their fairytale character title, and that would be Meeshell’s mom, the Little Mermaid, whos first name is Pearl. So there you have it, as funny as it is to joke about the possibility of say, Hunter’s Dad’s name being “The”, or Briar’s Mom’s name being “Sleeping”, I HIGHLY doubt thats the case.

Brothers Grimm and the Story Book of Legends
God I spent so much time formulating this theory please hear me out, I know it’s long but I think it’s worth it
Here I’ll try to give an answer to the existence of the book of legends, the whole legacy thing and how these things relate to the Brothers Grimm
Ok, the first gen brothers Grimm come from a different world than Ever after High, not necessarily our world, actually I think it would be interesting if they came from the Monster High universe, which we know has portals to Ever After High. They were, however, the first ones to travel to Ever After and the portal that they went through was in the cavern that Giles got lost in as a kid. I’ll explain more of that in a while.
Ok, the original brothers discovered a world without any magic, but with something peculiar about it’s people. When they narrated their lives, it sounded like… a book. With a linear plot, defined villains and a simple, satisfying end that taught some type of lesson, some of those lives even remembering myths and stories they’ve heard of in their world. They decided to register those peculiar stories and noticed some recurring roles and lessons, but those didn’t have to be hereditary, they could be anyone. The Evil Stepmother, The Knight in a Shiny Armor, the Forbidden Lover, The Damsel in Distress, etc.
And another role. The rebel. A Girl, born in each generation that seemed destined to go against tradition and rules. We’ll also come back to that.
The cavern that brought the brothers to that world was also a portal to other worlds, including one that they called Wonderland, a place with way too much magic and not nearly as much logic. Really, the Brothers Grimm didn’t mean to bring magic to the fairy tale world, they just wanted to open a portal to that land of Wonders, but that accident changed the Fairy Tale world forever, as magic became a part of it.
The magic had two main effects. Gave powers to the people related to their fairy tales, whether they acted like an evil witch or a kind princess and two, made the complete ordinary book where the Brothers registered their stories into the Storybook of Legends, a powerful item that registered the lives of the more extraordinary inhabitants of that world. However, there was a problem, the powers were hereditary, but if someone didn’t sign their page, their family would lose their powers. Not their story, not be erased from existence, but simply lose their powers. Some of them were more powerful than others. And those would go to great lengths to keep their happy ever after.
There was, however, a strange presence. A girl, registered in the book, but with no story, as ironic as that may sound, destined to do whatever her heart so desired. The Rebel.
She was, however, incredibly powerful, and since they couldn’t know if she was going to use that power for good or evil, she was dangerous.
THeir opinions on her was one of the reasons the brothers had a fall out, one of them believing that she had t be controlled, just like everyone else, as they had to do anything to keep that magic, even if it meant taking away the free will of the next generations, the other arguing that no amount of magic was worth that and that they should allow the people to make their choices. The latter lost the fight, disappearing forever and the former stayed, teaching his appreciation for tradition and rules to his sons: Giles and Milton.
Here I’m changing canon a bit because the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid ass decision I’ve decided to ignore it: yes, Giles got lost in a cavern as a kid and it was the same cavern that brought the Grimms to that world, however, he didn’t just stay there for a few hours, he stayed decades lost there. You see, the cavern is a bunch of portals to different worlds and it’s very easy to get lost in them, in different worlds or dimensions. That was when Giles went to Monster High and did the whole thing with Whisp. Then, after decades, he managed to get back to Ever After High.
He was, first of all, way older and way less willing to abide by the rules and tradition, so just like the first Brothers, Giles and Milton had a disagreement and a fall out, that’s canon.
MIlton then, following the instructions and beliefs of his dad, decided to create Ever After High, to be able to watch everyone and led them to make the right choice and follow their assigned legacy. Including the girl that didn’t fit it. At some point it was found out that if she signed a story she was stuck with it and couldn’t choose her destiny anymore. So they made her a story. A story about an evil queen poisoning an innocent girl so she could rule, but inevitably ending up imprisoned. They turned the girl with a choice into the villain. The most powerful villain. The Evil Queen.
I mean, Raven’s mother was rebellious against her story too, just in a different way than Raven, she probably knew that by signing the Storybook of Legends she would be determining her fate, but otherwise she could be anything, even the ruler of all the worlds. Maybe the reason she cursed Wonderland was to end the whole thing about the magic in Ever After being directly related to their story. So basically all the Evil Queens are like the biggest threat to the traditions and made-up rules of this world, and not all of them were evil, but they were all deemed as villains in an attempt of everyone being too scared of her to want to be like her.
That’s it, my stupid little theory that is like 60% me just bullshitting my way into making something cohesive
