De Algemene Verwarring #82 - 29 November 2022

Pictured below is Jim Thirlwell, a.k.a. Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel or The Foetus All Nude Revue or Foetus Interruptus or Foetus In Your Bed or Foetus Über Frisco or Foetus Art Terrorism, or also Wiseblood, or Clint Ruin, or Manorexia, or Steroid Maximus... the picture was apparently taken in 1985, one year after the release of one of many master pieces of his: “Hole”. I discovered the work of Thirwell in the local city library, where they had copies of “Hole” and also of “Nail” in the late eighties, early nineties, I can still singalong all the lyrics of both of those albums. I played a track of the Hole LP in this episode, because I don’t think I have already played Foetus tracks in De Algemene Verwarring and I have to say that although I don’t listen to those records as often as I listen to for instance early Coil records, the work of Jim Thirlwell has had an important influence on my musical education.
Also in this episode is the confronting and Coil related track “Rape” by Zos Kia, but don’t worry, it’s not a heavy episode and there’s enough other music that will put a smile on your face, from the likes of Wild Zeros, The Scaners, Tampax, Oblivians, Los Streaks, Mordecai, Boris Dzaneck, Treasury Of Puppies, Goldblum, and we dub into the night with The Idealist! Again, I'm late, I know. You know, work, life, gym, etcetera. Anyway, pictured below is the UK anarcho punk band Poison Girls. They are one of the many bands on the excellent double lp compilation"Cease & Resist - Anarcho Punk In The Uk 1979-1986", released by Optimo Music. I played their track "Underbitch" in this episode. I can't say I'm really familiar with the anarcho punk subgenre, and that's why I welcome compilations like this one. There's some obvious bands on it such as Crass, Honey Bane, Chumbawamba, Flux Of Pink Indians and Zounds, but also quite a few names that I had never heard of. I've heard the name Poison Girls before, obviously, as they are one of the better known bands, but to be honest I have never really checked their music, but after hearing this track "Underbitch" I might very well do an effort to listen to some more Poison Girls. You might hear more from this compilation in the upcoming next episodes. Also there's new and less new music from Famous Mammals, Burnt Envelope, Buck Biloxi, Now, The Cool Greenhouse, Al Karpenter & CIA Debutante, Private Arms, Soccer Committee and last but not least: Coil! Pictured below is German “goth” band X Mal Deutschland, a band that has stayed under my radar for quite a long time, and I don’t even know why. A few weeks ago I already played there song “Qual” and in this episode I’m spinning probably their best known song, the classic “Incubus Succubus”, a song that is featured on most, if not all eighties new wave compilations and somehow it only reached my wiling ears a few months ago. It’s strange how things go. Recently, in one of the past episodes, I admitted that I was also late to the party when it comes to the famous Bristol scene (bands such as Flying Saucer Attack, Movietone, Crescent...). And it’s not cool to admit that only a few years back I discovered the first two records of The Gun Club: I remember a face full of incomprehension when I admitted that to one of the regulars at The Pit's, but that didn’t stop me from singing along to Sex Beat when The Paint Fumes covered it when they played Kortrijk. Anyway, we’re at #42, still at home in the bedroom and to be honest I can’t wait to go back to the Quindo radio studio and spin some REAL vinyl for you. In this episode a short punk intro with a great song from The Maggots, and then we travel around the world with Swedish punk, Italian post punk, German goth and Spanish shoegaze, Also, a short chapter of “slowcore” (I think this is one of the most misleading “genre names” in music history), an industrial punch in the face from Qual, and a bunch of Swedish ànd Belgian noise. We end up with the newest long track by local beat sister Onrust! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!
