De Algemene Verwarring #110 - 15 April 2024
Episode one hundred and ten of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, April 15, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is Claire Mahoney, the woman behind the project Thistle Group, who has just recently collaborated with P. Wits to release a 7" on the I Dischi Del Barone label from Sweden. The 49th release on the label that only releases singles. Both artists are from New-Zealand. Thistle Group until now only released a cassette on 20 copies and a 7" on the Soft Abuse label. P. Wits might be a bit more known thanks to the 7" release on Belgian label Knotwilg Records. And it's an excellent single, maybe one of the highlights in the IDDB catalog. But contrary to what I said in the radio show, the most recent releases on the label were not less interesting to me when I look at the list now. I was under the impression that the last few releases were less appealing to me, but there's releases from Troth, from Eyes Of The Amaryllis, ç•Şé•· Taste, and the very last one was the harsh noise banger from Zwangsbeglucktertum, so what the hell was I thinking, seriously. Excellent label, excellent series of singles, buy them all if you can find them. Also, IDDB50 might be the last one, not sure about that, and I would be extremely sad if the label stops, but knowing that in the beginning they were 8 euro and now they are already 12 euro I can understand why it's not exactly rewarding to release singles... You really have to be a total freak like me for buying them and an even more total freak to put your money in such releases. Anyway, it's been quite a ride, so thanks to Matthias for all these wonderful releases.
Other music in this episode comes from surf rockers Krontjong Devils, ukulele expert Fabian, Les Yss Boys, Plexi Stad, The Drin, Honey Radar, Magazine, Desenterradas, Myriam Gendron, Brainman, AUS, Théorème, Juho Toivonen, and more! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #109 - 18 March 2024
Episode one hundred and nine of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, March 18, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is The Ex, yes, in probably one of their earliest line-ups. Now, 45 years later, the guy on the right is the only remaining member in the band. Recently, the band started writing new music and they are touring with a complete new set nowadays, after 5 years of "silence". And were they good? Well yes sure of course that's a stupid question, they are always good, I've never ever seen a bad show from The Ex in my life, and I've seen them quite a few times since those early nineties when they played shows with Tom Cora in Leuven and Diksmuide. I've played The Ex already in earlier episodes of course, but I thought it was time for a small "special" so I'm playing 4 tracks from different eras in the bands existance. Hope you enjoy that. Other music in this show is coming from the Back From The Grave compilations volumes 5 and 6, just recently purchased, and like always there's old and new stuff from the likes of Bart And The Brats, Pisse, Gravel, Wire, Nina Harker, Ekin Fil, Cupol, Wiseblood, Aus, and more. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #108 - 4 March 2024
Episode one hundred and eight of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, March 4, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is Bärchen Und Die Milchbubis! They are a band from Hannover, Germany, they released one album and two singles between 1980 and 1982, and now, in 2024, they are touring again! But that's not why I played them in the show, I played them because they are one of the bands that are featured in the fantastic Inner World 033 podcast, by the World Of Echo label, and compiled by the Famous Mammals. It's a three hour long feast of great great music, and I wanted to direct my listeners to this podcast, go listen and enjoy. Also, this episode of De Algemene Verwarring is a digital one, so as always I'm playing some tracks that I don't own on a physical lp or cd. Some of them are just ripped off the youtubes because unavailable on other places, and some others are from the Bandcamp vaults. Links below in the playlist when available. I particularly enjoyed making this episode, I think there are some real bangers in there. Oh and by the way sorry for the delay with the update here. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #107 - 19 February 2024
Episode one hundred and seven of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, February 19, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is, well, you know who is pictured below don't you? Yes, it's The Birthday Party. Last week I saw Mutiny In Heaven, the documentary about the band made by Ian White, and it was fantastic, for several reasons. First of all, it was a pleasant re-acquaintance with the angry, dangerous, aggressive Nick Cave, who I like a lot more than the quiet and sad Nick Cave we have seen the last few years, and I'm saying this with all the respect I have for the man's tragic losses, I mean, I admire the way he copes with all of that, but musically he has lost me a bit. Of course I was too young to have consciously known The Birthday Party, and I don't really remember 100 % when Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds came on my radar, I think I picked up the Kicking Against The Pricks and Your Funeral My Trial lp's up from the Kortrijk library (again, endless thanks to the Kortrijk library with their fantastic collection), but I don't know if that was before or after I bought the 1988 Tender Prey album, but anyway. The Birthday Party, the aggression, the feedback, the unique guitar sound of Rowland S. Howard, bass god and naughty boy Tracy Pew, the always quiet and sober (except that one time) Mick Harvey and the primitive drum sound of Phil Calvert, they were truly a force. The drinks, the drugs, the pills, and the hunger. The loathing of London, but not exactly a rebirth in Berlin. The making of the Nick The Stripper video. Just go see it. Also fantastic was the entry into the cinema of an elderly couple, they were too late so they had to sit on the front row but then looked around and noticed some more empty seats in the fourth row, so they went there, asked some people to move, and then sat there for ten minutes, after which they left the cinema again. Wrong movie? Wrong Nick Cave? Too loud? Who will tell? Anyway, I'm playing Deep In The Woods in the show, a song that I have always liked a lot because it showed the way Cave would slowly move towards what would become The Bad Seeds but still has that distinctive Rowland S. Howard feedbacking guitar.
There is also a lot of other music in the show, from Dead Nittels, Dat En Wat, The Velvet Underground, Boduf Songs, People Skills, Collate, The Vanishing, Violent Change, The Triffids, Drifting, Z'EV, Organ Of Corti and more! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for th show. Enjoy!

Yeah yeah I'm late to the party once again, so I'll be short. Pictured below is Zyklome A, Belgian punk legends. Read all about them on the Ultra Eczema bandcamp page or homepage, Ultra Eczema, run by Dennis Tyfus, was so good to76 page book filled with tons of archive material reissue all the recorded material by the band on a double album, and as a fabulous extra you also get a 76 page book filled with tons of archive material. I mean, why would you even doubt to buy this?
Other music in this episode comes from the mighty Goodbye Boozy label with three singles by The Traditional Fools, Mainframe and Ghoulies, girlie punk from Chin-Chin and Ribbon Stage, postpunk by Blue Orchids, Die Atlantikschwimmer, Trummerfrauen, and Section 25, and I'm also playing a great early Simple Minds track. There's also a small Wio special (two songs!) and we end things with a track from the beautiful new Roy Montgomery album. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #105 - 22 January 2024
Episode one hundred and five of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, January 22, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is Belgian cold wave band De Brassers. The band played their very last show last week in Brussels, saying goodbye to their audience. They released a cassette, a single and a 12" in the early eighties before drug abuse stopped the band for a while. They had a restart in a different lineup somewhere in the late nineties and have been playing shows since then, compilations and live albums were released, the legend was growing. Yes, "En Toen Was Er Niets Meer" is a Belgian classic, but you know how it goes with classics: you get bored of them, so I played another song in this episode to pay tribute to a notorious Belgian band. Oh yeah apparently it is also "week of Belgian music" this week, but as you probably know we don't care much about that, I mean, I play Belgian music if I like it and I don't play it if I don't like it, that's the whole idea about playing music that we like, isn't it? Anyway, praise to De Brassers because they have had an important influence on Belgian music history. Other music in this episode comes from Brainbombs, Death, Tyvek, The Fall, Television Personalities, Cosey Mueller, HTRK, Ekin Fil, Myriam Gendron and more. Also, there's a track from The Soft Moon. Rest in peace, Luis Vasquez. I'll never forget the Soft Moon debut record that left quite an impression on me, and of course the show in Kortrijk at the Sinksen fest, which was amazing. And as always, beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this episode. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #104 - 8 January 2024
Episode one hundred and four of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, January 8, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is the Swiss all girl punk-pop band Chin-Chin, I just recently got to know them and I think I heard them first in one of Erika Elizabeth's curated Maximum Rock'n Roll radio shows (who arz, by the way, highly recommended if you're into that kind of edgy post-punk and girly pop and all). Erika used to host the Futures And Pasts podcast, and is also a member of the band Collate. Chin-Chin was formed in 1982 in Biel, Switzerland and released two singles and a full length (reissued by Slumberland Records and Mississippi Records), and now there's also a compilation released by Sealed Records, which includes the unreleased four track Janice Long Session recorded for the BBC from 1988, never released before. I'm playing the song Cheat Boy Cheat in this episode (it has a Ramones bass riff yes!). Other tracks in this episode come from a few of the records that I listed in my best of 2023 posts last week (Sheaves, Famous Mammals, Blod, Drifting, and the anarcho punk compilation on Optimo Music) and older and newer tracks from DAF, Suburban Lawns, Violent Change, Maan, Current Affairs, The Shapiros, and a brand new single from Swedish legends Brainbombs! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

Best of 2023 - part 2
So, last year I posted my best-of-2022 list on this Tumblr page after some non Facebook minded listeners asked me about it, and this time I'm being proactive so here it is, my best records and gigs of 2023, starting with the records that were released in 2023 - 6 to 1 + best gigs 2023. With YouTube clips or Bandcamp links if available.
6. CIA DĂ©butante: Down, Willow (Siltbreeze) - best record yet of the duo CIA DĂ©butante, and they also released the collab lp with Al Karpenter, also a beast of a record.
youtube
5. Leda: Neuter (Discreet) - guitar loops looping guitar loops looping. It's Leda, you know what to expect, and still this is probably, together with the Music For A Film tape, the best effort of Sofie Herner so far. And very close to what she did with Neutral too.
youtube
4. The Sheaves: Excess Death Cult Time (Minimum Table Stacks) - bizarre nasal post-punk. The record is too short, but so great. First released on tape, thanks to MTS now also on vinyl. The Fall is dead, long live The Sheaves.
3. Drifting: Dream Autopsy (Förlag För Fri Musik) - Angelic voices on a background of tape loops and sheer noise. New trio with Sewer Election, Form Hunter and Julia from Amateur Hour. Probably sounds like Amateur Hour without the songs/guitars.
youtube
2. Ordeal: Vätterns Pärla (Aguirre) - there was already a very limited tape released in 2020 that was screaming for more, and suddenly out of nothing comes Vätterns Pärla, released on Belgian label Aguirre Records, and when they made this announcement I kinda jumped out of my chair with excitement. Ordeal is another alter ego of Dan Johansson of Sewer Election/Neutral/Amateur Hour and more, and this drone music inspired by master Maurizio Bianchi. Great great record.
1. Famous Mammals: Instant Pop Expressionism Now! (Siltbreeze) - Same story: there was a tape first and a digital release and then suddenly this record on Siltbreeze and it's sooooo good. And it's a supergroup made up of Andy Jordan (Andy Human, Non Plus Temps, The World, Lenz, Naked Roommate), Stanley Martinez (Rays, Children Maybe Later, Violent Change) and Amber Sermeño (The World, Naked Roommate). Again: The Fall is dead, long live Famous Mammals.
youtube
To end: it wasn't a big hot gigs year, but there's been more than enough to enjoy. Here's a small list of the best shows I saw in 2023:
Oi Boys @ De Kreun/Pit’s

Best of 2023 - Part 1
So, last year I posted my best-of-2022 list on this Tumblr page after some non Facebook minded listeners asked me about it, and this time I'm being proactive so here it is, my best records and gigs of 2023, starting with the records that were released in 2023 - 13 to 7 + best compilations/reissues. With YouTube clips or Bandcamp links if available.
13. Loopsel: Ă–ga For Ă–ga : Eye For An Eye (DFA - Mammas Mysteriska Jukebox) - Loopsel is Elin from Monokultur and from Skiftande Enheter and this is her second full lenght, more song oriented than ever. If you like old 4AD stuff or, more recent, Treasury Of Puppies. Very beautiful.
youtube
12. Nusidm: The Last Temptation Of Thrill (Bruit Direct Disques) - This is a record that I'm still trying to understand. Wait, do you have to understand a record? No, of course not. It's the weirdest loud record of the year to me, somehow similar to early Liars records but yet so different, from a member of Cured Pink and Kitchen's Floor.
youtube
11. Exek: The Map And The Territory (Foreign Records) - return to form from one of the bands that is played A LOT on De Algemene Verwarring, last year they were in the "best of the rest" list but I have to admit that they kind of bored me a bit with their last records, but the new one is really really good.
youtube
10. Soccer Committee: ❤/ lamb (Morctapes) - This is the most beautiful silent and quiet record of the year. Soccer Committee is Mariska Baars from the Netherlands and it's her second release on Ghent based label Morctapes.
9. Children Maybe Later: What A Flash Kick! (Sloth Mate Productions) - Heard this for the first time on the Dynamite Hemorrhage podcast and immediately put it on my want list. No surprise I finally picked it up in the excellent Paris record shop Pop Culture. It's quiet songs about cats and about Jane Birkin and it's great.
youtube
8. Lewsberg: Out And About (Self-released) - Best Dutch band definitely. Ok, Tramhaus is nice too, but they haven't got the output yet that Lewsberg has, and every release is high quality. Bit bummed that I missed them live this year.
youtube
7. Blod: Ondskans Frö (Self-released) - Well it can't get much more DIY than this can it? Self-released, solo recordings, self made covers and maybe even one of the best Blod releases so far. Also, it's about the last day on earth, but let's hope that does not prevent Blod from making more albums.
6 to 1 + the best gigs of 2023 are coming up in the next post, but here's also 5 excellent compilations and/or reissues, with a special mention for the London based World Of Echo label who not only offered us the Movietone and Hydroplane records, but also The Shapiros collection and the new Lauten Der Seele record:
Hydroplane: Selected Songs 1997-2003 (World Of Echo)
Myriam Gendron: Not So Deep As A Well (Feeding Tube)
Movietone: Movietone (World Of Echo)
Peter Jefferies: Closed Circuit (Grapefruit)
V/A: Cease & Resist - Sonic Subversion & Anarcho Punk In The UK 1979-1986 (Optimo)

De Algemene Verwarring #103 - 25 December 2023
Episode one hundred and three of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, December 25, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is the Dutch cold wave duo Desinteresse, they are from Nijmegen and fairly new, I think their first release is from 2021, they've got a few cassettes and digital releases on Bandcamp (desinteresse.bandcamp.com) , and they are really great. They have all the ingredients for your typical cold wave band: cold synths, reverbed vocals, spider web haircuts, drum machines, and lyrics about alienation and self-pity, yes yes. Anyway, Desinteresse is the featured band because I'm doing an all-digital episode of the show, for different reasons but mainly because i have bought some digital releases that I want you to hear, and I combined them with a few tracks that are on my want list. There's tracks from new K-Town based all star band Vaag, Cuticles, Violin Sect, The Dream Syndicate, Mekanik Kommando, Cosey Mueller, Venediktos Tempelboom, Ignatz, Organ Of Corti and more! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist, with Bandcamp links, for this show. Oh and apparently I can only add 10 music links, so sorry for those not featured here. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #102 - 11 December 2023
Episode one hundred and two of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, December 11, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is US punk band The Spits. I've been playing some tracks of them in earlier episodes of the show, and this time I'm just playing them to direct your attention to the 35th birthday of local punk venue The Pit's, this weekend 15-16-17 December. Yes, it's been 34 years ago that I first entered this legendary Kortrijk venue, at the occasion of the 1st birthday weekend and I've been sticking around there for like ever. Ok there's been some periods that I wasn't going as often as I was going there in the beginning or even as I am now, you know, music tastes come and go, but still I can't imagine a life without The Pit's. So here's the deal, there's four bands on Friday, there's four bands on Saturday, there's DJ Bowy, there's DJ Juju, Miss A and Mister A, two bands on Sunday, record fair, hangover brunch and probably looooots of beers, so go, celebrate the DIY underground punk culture and party hard!
Other music in this episode comes from i.a. Killing Joke (RIP Geordie), Static Static, Powerplant, Collate, Exek, Terry, PIL, Warm Currency, Leda, Nusidm, Lewsber, Franciska and more. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #101 - 13 November 2023
Episode one hundred and one of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, November 13, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below are De Portables, the Belgian band from Bruges that played its very last show last Friday. They existed for about 27 years and have always been a part of my musical life. Unfortunately that last show was on the same day as the first day of the Sonic City festival here in Kortrijk, so I missed it, but I've seen them numerous times in the past and I've always thought that they would be around for ever. There are only a few bands like that, the ones that have been around all your life and that you assume will be there forever. Sonic Youth was one of those bands, The Ex is still one of those bands, The Cure is one of those bands, and De Portables was one of those bands. I'm quite sure that there will be more musical output from the different band members (I mean, for instance, listen to Wio's excellent Disintegration cover album), but still, this is the end of a musical era. And there are not a lot of Belgian bands with the same legacy as De Portables. I already played on of their excellent cover songs in the previous episode, and this time I'm playing the opening and title track of their album "Rosegarden". Thank you for the music!
This whole episode has a post festival vibe, there's only one very loud track, there's a lot of slow long tracks, a few drones, and a bit of krautrock. Bands in this episode include The Shifters, Sex Church, Stereolab, Lungfish, PJ Harvey, Hydroplane, Ordeal, K-Group, and a new Blod track to open the show. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

Sex Church: Hidden Hand (12” “Somnambulist” on Psychic Handshake Recordings & Instant Pleasure Records, 2013)
The Shifters: The American Attitude To Law (LP “The Shifters” on Future Folklore Records, reissue from 2018, originally released on cassette in 2015 on Comfort 35 in 35 copies)
Stereolab: Harmonium (2LP “Refried Ectoplasm (Switched On Volume 2)” on Duophonic Ultra High Frequency Disks, reissue 2018, originally released in 1995)
Cloudland Canyon: Krautwerk (LP “Lie In Light” on Kranky, 2008)
Lewsberg: A Different View (LP “Out And About”, self-released, 2023)

De Algemene Verwarring #100 - 30 October 2023
The hundredth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, October 30, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is The Fall and I can't think of a better band to be featured in the hundredth (pronounce thĂ t) episode of De Algemene Verwarring (well, there is one other band). Anyway, here they are in their 1988 line-up, the line-up that recorded the albums The Frenz Experiment and I Am Kurious Oranj, with Brix, Marcia Schofield, Craig Scanlon, Steve Hanley and Simon Wolstencroft. The Frenz Experiment is, I think, a rather under-estimated album by the band, at least it's not mentioned that much when people talk about the best Fall albums. However it features one of their biggest hits, the cover of The Kinks' "Victoria", but that is not even the best song on the album, it has also "Hit The North", "Carry Bag Man", "Oswald Defence Lawyer" and "Bremen Nacht" and those are all classics in my ears. I got first acquainted with The Fall thanks to the Kortrijk library, where in those mid-to-late eighties I picked up copies of Perverted By Language and This Nation's Saving Grace (PBL still being my all time favorite Fall record). In general, the Kortrijk library had an excellent selection of vinyls in those days, I owe a great deal of my musical memories to them. In the nineties I kind of lost connection with The Fall, it was the period that they incorporated more electronics into their music which didn't appeal that much to me and in all honesty, in the nineties I was more of a hipster indie boy listening to Sebadoh and Palace Brothers. I came back to the band in the noughties when they released excellent albums such as Fall Heads Roll and Imperial Wax Solvent, and finally got to see them live in Porto, of al places. Anyway, The Fall, probably the best band in the world, had a great influence on my musical taste, I still got lots of love for repetitive music (be it from Swans or from Lungfish or even Emeralds) and Mark E. Smith is a fookin' legend.
So, episode 100 is filled with 22 cover songs, featuring "Victoria" by The Fall, amongst others. I've added the band who recorded the original version in the playlist. Hope you enjoy it. And thanks for listening 100 times to my "duiding". And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #99 - 16 October 2023
The ninety-ninth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, October 16, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is Brooklyn, NY, based band The Rogers Sisters. And you know what, they are actually sisters: Laura Rogers and Jennifer Rogers, and there is als vocalist and bass player Miyuki Furtado. The band didn't exist for that long and as far as I know the two sisters aren't actively involved in music making anymore. I saw the band when I was in New York, they played a gig under the Brooklyn Bridge together with Enon and Telepathe, and I thought they were a really great band. They also got a spot on the Rough Trade Shops "Post Punk" compilation on Rough Traden that's actually where I first heard them and I honestly thought they were an early eighties band somehow. Their debut album 'Purely Evil' that was released by Troubleman Unlimited is still a classic in my eyes. There's more post punk in this episode, new and older, from Family Fodder, Magazine, The Toads, and The Cure, yes. Also some quiet music from Roy Montgomery, Mist and the great new album by Maxine Funke. And a long awaited brand new release from Swedish underground loving and Gent based label B.A.A.D.M.. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #98 - 2 October 2023
The ninety-eighth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, October 2, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Again, I'm late, I know. You know, work, life, gym, etcetera. Anyway, pictured below is the UK anarcho punk band Poison Girls. They are one of the many bands on the excellent double lp compilation"Cease & Resist - Anarcho Punk In The Uk 1979-1986", released by Optimo Music. I played their track "Underbitch" in this episode. I can't say I'm really familiar with the anarcho punk subgenre, and that's why I welcome compilations like this one. There's some obvious bands on it such as Crass, Honey Bane, Chumbawamba, Flux Of Pink Indians and Zounds, but also quite a few names that I had never heard of. I've heard the name Poison Girls before, obviously, as they are one of the better known bands, but to be honest I have never really checked their music, but after hearing this track "Underbitch" I might very well do an effort to listen to some more Poison Girls. You might hear more from this compilation in the upcoming next episodes. Also there's new and less new music from Famous Mammals, Burnt Envelope, Buck Biloxi, Now, The Cool Greenhouse, Al Karpenter & CIA Debutante, Private Arms, Soccer Committee and last but not least: Coil! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #97 - 18 September 2023
The ninety-seventh episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, September 18, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
First of all, yes I know I am a bit late with this one as episode #97 was already broadcast a week ago. Apologies, shit happens. Let's get down to business. Pictured below is the New Zealand trio The Strange Girls, consisting of Clayton Noone, Kaaterama "Motty" Morehu and Jon Arcus. Fördämning Arkiv from the mighty Göteborg released a compilation of early work from the band last year, and lately I have been listening to this record a lot. The band was unknown to me before, and that's not that weird because they released mainly cassettes, cd-r's and very limited lathe cut vinyl, so obviously not very easy to find back in the non-digital era. Some, if not most, of those releases are now on the Bandcamp page of the band, but of you want some nice black vinyl, this is the record that you must buy. It's an absolute wonderful record that I forgot to mention in my "best of 2022" list. Atmospheric downer shoegaze folk or something. It's the third time I played a track from the record in the show and I wouldn't be surprised if that was not the last time yet.
There's some intriguing new records in the show by Nusidm, The Sheaves, The Toads, Loopsel and Current Affairs, and the regular older crackers, this time coming from i.a. Drunks With Guns (wow, that was long ago!), The Drags, The Pupils, and Anika! And unfortunately we have to close the show with a Stars From The Lid track, in memory of the gone-too-soon Brian McBride. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

De Algemene Verwarring #96 - 4 September 2023
The ninety-sixth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, September 4, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Yes, we're back at it after a long summer break, it's September 4 and it's bleeding hot in the Quindo studio, so nothing has changed. Pictured below is the UK postpunk band The Psychedelic Furs at around 1980, a lineup that wouldn't last long but that was responsible for the self-titled debut album that was released in 1980. The band was brought to my attention again by the Dynamite Hemorrhage radio show. Host Jay Hinman mentioned some reviews that he had read about the debut album being characterized as the ultimate mix of Roxy Music and The Velvet Underground. For me it was also the first time I heard these two bands mentioned when talking about The Psychedelic Furs, but it kinda makes sense. Anyway, the debut album is really really a great record, sexy and groovy and made to dance to. So I played the track "We Love You" from the Furs. There's more old music in this episode from The Prunes, The Vultures, The Peechees, Armitage Shanks, Blod. But moreover, the summer spawned some really great releases, I don't think I have ever bought so many records in the summer months as I did now in 2023, and most of them being new releases. The new Famous Mammals lp is a masterpiece, there's new bands such as Children Maybe Later, The Sheaves and Burnt Envelope, and new releases from bands such as the synth goths from Es and droners Pefkin. So, a great episode, if you ask me. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!
