Some solangelo HC bc The Sun and The Star ruined me in all the best ways
Ok but since it's now established that Nico is the most romantic of the two and wants to do things properly (the confession picnic in tsats) :
Whenever they're out of CHB on a date and they have Jules-Albert, Nico opens the door for Will
When they settle in New Rome and Will starts pre-med, he leaves coffee in thermos all over their flat. He also waits for Will when the blond has an exam. It becomes expected to see Nico waiting patiently next to the exam room with a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll
Btw they both know the other's exact coffee/tea/drink order
He does bring Will to Paris and they illegally put a lock on Pont des Arts (the lovers' bridge) - but they also travel to other places. It's always a short trip bc monsters but napping together in a lavender's field is worth the risk. (To troll Will a little, he brings him in the Catacombs, both the touristic path and the illegal ones lol. Jokes on him, Will begs him to sneak them into the forbidden anatomical collection of Dupuytren's museum. They're both weirdos, what can I say)
Not that sweet but one time Will was listening to a cold case true-crime podcast and Nico absent-mindedly said he could always ask the victim if Will really wanted to know. Will wasn't on board with the idea, tho Nico simply shrugged and said the souls of Asphodel want to be heard. In the end Will convinced him to not bother the victim and make them relive a traumatic memory
He agonizes for days over what gift to give Will for his birthday even if Will repeats time and time again that he will be happy without a gift as long as he can spend the day with him (Gift giving vs Quality Time, choose your fighter). And for Christmas? He's a man on mission all year long: as soon as Will expresses interest in something, he carefully tucks the info in his head
The day he decides he's going to marry Will, he's shadow-traveling to wherever Naomi is to ask for her blessing
Then he prays to Apollo and before he can finish his prayer, a solar flare makes all of the electricity network explodes. Apollo is so overjoyed that a mini-heatwave takes root over CHB - and it's like, the middle of winter. At night, auroras can be seen in the sky. Apollo kids are Confusion™️
(Also he tells his father & stepmother of his plans beforehand. Hades keeps a straight face out of sheer willpower but the smile he gives Nico is wobbly. Persephone simply approves. She knows they would be a perfect match)
(Unbeknownst to Nico, Will has done the same thing because he knows his boyfriend likes being proper with stuff likes that. He hasn't gone down the Underworld bc he would need Orpheus' Doors but he prayed to both the King & Queen. Flowers bloomed on his windowsill. They were made of precious stones)

Consequently, intensified research and development efforts are anticipated in the near future, leading to advancements in treatment options and potential breakthroughs in managing Dupuytren's disease. In a recent study, adalimumab emerged as a potentially cost-effective treatment choice during the early stages of Dupuytren’s disease. The research findings suggest that this medication holds promise in effectively managing the condition while providing value for the investment. These results underscore the potential advantages of adalimumab as a practical and economically viable treatment option specifically for individuals in the early stages of Dupuytren’s disease. The growing awareness and understanding of the disease among healthcare professionals and patients, along with advancements in medical research and diagnostics, are driving the market expansion.
Improved detection rates and timely intervention have increased the demand for effective treatments. Endo Pharmaceuticals’ “Watching Education Unfold” campaign, featuring real patients, aims to raise awareness about Dupuytren’s contracture and educate the public and healthcare community about the condition and available treatment options. This initiative is expected to contribute to heightened awareness, early diagnosis, and improved management of contractures. In addition, significant advancements in medical technology and therapeutic approaches, such as injectable collagenase and minimally invasive surgical techniques, have played a crucial role in driving the market forward. Injectable collagenase treatment like Xiaflex has gained approval for Dupuytren's contracture in multiple countries, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional surgical procedures and leading to improved patient outcomes and shorter recovery times. These advancements in medical technology and therapeutics are significant contributors to the overall growth of the market.

New Post has been published on https://dupuytrens.org/three-exciting-dupuytren-updates-and-a-public-seminar/
Three Exciting Dupuytren Updates and a Public Seminar
Tumblr media
I want to share three exciting Dupuytren updates with you this Halloween.
The first update is the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical research. The term “Artificial Intelligence” is a little misleading. Today, AI is about computerized pattern-matching rather than thinking and consciousness, but it’s still amazing. The pumpkin pictures above are all AI-generated. I typed “Happy pumpkin with hands”, and Dall-e’s AI made them. I had to try a few times, but still, it’s impressively realistic. The program created these pictures by pattern-matching my text with its image database. Each hand and each pumpkin in each image is unique, and the program could generate a nearly infinite number of new variations.
These images are cute, but the more significant impact of AI will be in developing medicines for Dupuytren. Earlier this year, DeepMind’s AlphaFold AI analyzed the shapes of proteins and predicted about 200 million new protein shapes. This database could not have been made by hand or by trial and error. It’s a giant breakthrough in modeling how proteins work, how they snap together with other molecules like Lego pieces, and how drugs might modify their effects. If we can identify proteins that govern Dupuytren biology, AI like this could match their shapes to the shapes of known drugs and therapeutic molecules. This method is already in use with other diseases – finding new uses for existing medications without trial and error or having to create a new drug.
The second update is the Dupuytren Research Group’s blood biomarker discovery research. Our study has 14 Terabytes of gene-related data on a small group of people with and without Dupuytren. We plan to recruit researchers from around the world to study this data in the cloud through a PrecisionFDA competition https://precision.fda.gov/. This competition will make secure de-identified gene data available to vetted researchers. The competition prize will go to the research team that best identifies which (anonymous) participants have Dupuytren and which don’t – based only on de-identified gene data. This competition will engage researchers from different backgrounds to work on this data, including researchers studying other fibrotic diseases. The more researchers, the more insights, and the faster we make progress. This competition should launch in early 2023.
At the same time, we’re also analyzing blood protein data from the same research participants. We have data from mass spectrometry and SomaLogic analysis of over 7000 blood proteins. We’ll soon also have data from Nordic Biosciences on how actively different collagen types are accumulating and being removed. It’s challenging. Protein profiles can reflect Dupuytren, but so can age, gender, and other factors. The plan is to complete this protein analysis and publish the results next year, followed by a publication of the PrecisionFDA gene findings. There will be more analysis of connections between gene and protein findings for more insights into new Dupuytren drug treatments. This work will pave the way to establish NIH funding for future Dupuytren research. Without government support, we’re still funded entirely by charitable donations.
The third update involves a trip to Boston this November. I’ll attend the Sixth Antifibrotic Drug Development Summit in Woburn, just outside Boston. This conference is for researchers developing new treatments for fibrotic diseases affecting the lungs, liver, kidneys, and other areas. There’s an overlap between these diseases and Dupuytren, so it’s an excellent opportunity to see the forefront of fibrotic research and to network with potential collaborators in other fields. I want to present Dupuytren Research Group’s findings at the next summit.
And… I’m staying an extra day in Woburn to give a free public presentation on Dupuytren disease and research for a cure. This presentation and the following discussion will be from 9:00 – 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 12, at the hotel hosting the AFDD Summit: Crowne Plaza Boston – Woburn, 15 Middlesex Canal Park Road, Woburn, MA 01801, 781-933-0491. Attendance is free, but you must register to attend at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dupuytren-disease-and-research-for-a-cure-tickets-455259572637. Please come if you can!
We’re making real progress, and I’m personally grateful for the generosity of each person who has made this work possible so far. Of course, we have more to go, but it’s a great start.
Happy Halloween, and thanks again for your support!

Dupuytrens vs trigger finger:
The answer to that question is no. Upon first glance, these two things might seem very similar, but they are actually very different medical conditions. In fact, the only similarity is that they both affect finger flexion. Trigger finger involves the tendons, and Dupuytren contractor involves the tissue.
Trigger finger is also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, and it causes one or more of your fingers to get stuck in a bent position, but doesn’t make them completely stuck. People with trigger finger can usually still straighten their fingers, though it may take more work than normal and will make a snapping or clicking sound, similar to the trigger of a gun being pulled.
Trigger finger occurs when inflammation narrows the sheath around the tendons and a nodule forms, usually from injury. Flexing your fingers forces the nodule to slide through the narrow sheath with a snap. This is most common in the index and middle finger and the thumb.
Dupuytren also causes one or more of your fingers to be stuck in a bent position, but that’s where the similarities stop.
Dupuytren can take years to develop completely, and it’s a hand deformity that affects the tissue (fascia) in the palm of your hand.
This condition starts when that tissue starts to form knots under the skin of your palm. As these knots continue to form, they will create a cord that pulls one or two fingers into a bent position.
Unlike trigger finger, these bent fingers can’t be fully straightened again when this happens. Because of this, everyday activities, even ones as simple as shaking someone’s hand, become difficult. This condition is most common in the pinky and ring finger.
Trigger finger is usually caused by overuse and injury. There is no clear cause for Dupuytren. This condition doesn’t seem to be connected with any injuries.
So Dupuytren's contracture is due to the fascia thickening and pulling on fingers whereas trigger finger is due to tendons getting stuck in the tendon sheath. The etiology of the former is unclear while thr latter is due to injury/overuse.
Diabetes are a risk factor for both.

The Musie Dupuytren
This Conciergerie, with the hall of the Cordelier Club, the Musie Dupuytren, is the only extant building in Paris, which is closely associated with great scenes of the Revo-lution. The Bastille is gone, the Tuileries, the Hotel de Ville, the Hall of the Convention in the R. de Rivoli, the Jacobin Club, the prisons, the Temple, Abbaye, La Force, Chatelet, and the rest. So, too, the tombs of Mirabeau, Voltaire, Rousseau, Marat, Louis xvi., and Marie Antoinette no longer hold their bones, and cenotaphs record the spot where they were laid. Etiam periere sepulchra. New Haussmannic streets cover the soil, wherein the ashes of Danton and Vergniaud, Charlotte Corday and Madame Roland, moulder unknown. Of the Revolution no buildings remain but only sites; and the only edifices, which survive to speak to us of the September massacres and the Terror, are the dining-hall of the followers of St. Francis and the palace of St. Louis, the knight and crusader.
In spite of destruction and reconstruction, the history pf the great edifices of old Paris is wonderfully instructive, even that of the buildings which have wholly disappeared. But they must be studied in the learned and elaborate works, such as those of Dulaure, Piganiol, Viollet-le-Duc, Lacroix, Lenoir, Guilhermy, Fournier, Hoffbauer, Fergus- son, Hamerton, in the Histoire Generale, and in Paris a travers les Ages, in the splendid series of etchings and engravings of old Paris, which may be found in the library of the Carnavalet Museum, and in our British Museum. Bastille, Louvre, Hdtel de Ville, Tuileries, Luxembourg, the Citd, St. Germain, St. Genevilve, would each require an essay, or a volume with maps and plans and restorations, to make them intelligible private tours istanbul. But those who seek to know what Paris has been in the long succession of ages may still revive it in their minds, with the aid of the mass of literature that is open to them, and if they will study not only the extant churches, but such works of domestic art as the Hotel Cluny, and Hotel de Sens, Hotel la Valette, the house in the Corn’s la Reine, and the Hotel Carnavalet.
Ducerceau and M6ryon
A careful study of Silvestre, Ducerceau, and M6ryon will give some idea of old Paris, with its vast walls, gates, towers, castles, its crowded churches, its immense abbeys, its narrow winding streets, its fetid cemeteries, gloomy courts and impasses, its filthy lanes, and its bridges loaded with houses. We may linger about the old remnants of churches, the flotsam and jetsam of the Mediaeval Catholicism, such bits as the tower of St. Jacques, and the portals of the two St. Germains and of St. Nicolas des Champs, the old churches of St. Jnlien le Pauvre, and St. Martin des Champs, the church of St. Sdverin, and the chapel of the Chdteau de Vincennes.
Then let us study the tombs in St. Germain des Pris, of St. Denis, St. Etienne du Mont: and then we may go on to the tomb that all Englishmen visit — the tomb which I always feel to be the grandest of all sepulchral conceptions (to be set beside the tomb of Theod- oric at Ravenna, and the tomb of Cecilia Metella on the Appian way), almost the one work of modern art, which is at once colossal, noble, and pathetic — I mean the mighty vault beneath the dome of the Invalidcs, where the greatest soldier and the worst ruler of our age sleeps at last in peace, guarded by the veterans of France.
We need not deny to modern Paris the gift of charm; we may admit that her museums and libraries, her collections, and her treasures are inexhaustible to the fit student; but far more impressive is the history of this memorable city, with its vast range of time, of variety, of association — with its record of the dawn of Western civilisation, of Catholicism and Feudalism, of the Renascence, and the modern world, of the Revolution of the last century, and the Imperialism of this century — with its dust enriched with the bones of those who in things of the soul and in things of war, in the love of beauty, and in the passion for new life, have dared and done memorable deeds, from the days of Genevieve and Clotilda, the Louis and the Henrys, down to the two Napoleons, and the three Republics.
