still thinking about first arc in dtb.
we know Hei is not emotionless. and he has known contractors well for a long time. whether they have emotions or not.
but afaik we don't know anything about his past with the Dolls.
I think the Doll that was Chiaki's double really shook him in the end. They were already turned off, back into Doll mode, yet they sacrificed themselves for him. From their own will. Even knowing they were deceived and used.
For this Doll, the hours spent with Hei were precious enough to jump in and shield with own life. Probably, even if it was fake, it was the only time they were treated as a person and cared for.
I think this might be origin of why he became so fiercely protective of Yin.

Slightly fucked up after learning that Wolf's Rain, one of the first anime I remember watching, was also boarded/directed by Okamura (who boarded/directed Darker than BLACK), and had music composed by Yoko Kanno (who also, you guessed it, composed for Darker than BLACK)

I’ve noticed there is still a good amount of Hei x Misaki fans here on tumblr, still surviving and cherishing the love for this ship for over a decade. I would tell you back then that I doubted any fictional ship would ever beat this one in my book and all these years later it’s still true.
Recently I’ve agreed on a special collab YCH commissions with my friend @sierra117-renner. She provided the YCH base and I’m doing the rest. And for the style sample I picked these two because heck, they need more art and I’ve improved a lot since my last fanart of them, I should provide you all with more.
