Hello everyone! I recently started watching Horrid Henry again and felt pretty nostalgic. This is a high school au fan-fiction I had been thinking for a while. The story will be uploaded on Wattpad as well every weekend, the same as here. Enjoy the first chapter!
        ✨  BROKEN HEARTS BOULEVARD✨
Chapter 1: It all started when
The sun rises above the busy city of Ashton, once more the children are getting ready for school. Summertime is almost here. The weather is only getting warmer and everyone anticipates to hear the last bell of the year.
Henry rubs sleepily his tired eyes before taking his lighter out of his back pocket. He searches for his cigarettes inside his school bag not paying attention around him.
-You shouldn't be ditching. A familiar voice says making him look up for a moment.
-I could say the same to you. He replies unamused as the young woman sits next to him. She smiles warmly at him taking the lighter from his hands.
-I came because I knew I would find you here. She admits furrowing her eyebrows lightly. Henry looks at her with the corner of his eye. She has been doing this since she first moved into the neighborhood, always trying to help no matter how bad the situation was. He finds this habit of hers kinda irritating but she is one of his closest friends and he respects her beliefs.
-Does that mean if I skip class, you're gonna do the same? He asks already knowing the answer. She nods resting her back on the wall receiving a slight groan from Henry. He knows she is doing this on purpose. She is actually an excellent student and her grades are high, unlike his, which are below average. A few moments of silence pass with them just sitting next to each other.
-You know what Dee? You're pretty damn annoying. He finally murmurs quietly making her laugh. After a while they decide to head back to school. That old woman will be furious if they don't attend another one of her classes.
-And I thought I wouldn't see your ugly face today. Guess I was wrong.
-Don't you have anything else to do Margaret? He asks her annoyed. She crosses her arms, blocking his locker.
-Battle-Axe is on her limits. I hope you get suspended.
-Not today. The boy says in a monotone.
-One shall keep dreaming. She replies sarcastically. She gives Dee a glare before allowing Henry to open his locker. The young woman watches her as she leaves. She never liked Margaret's bossy behavior and egoistic personality. She always wanted to be in charge and even treated her own friends in a selfish, impolite way. Henry opens the door seeing it's half empty, the lesson hasn't started yet. He takes his seat next to Linda while Dee sits next to Ralph, as usual.
-What's wrong? He asks her not liking how serious she appears to be today. She points at Margaret who sits on the front desk. Ralph furrows his eyebrows. Sometimes he wonders why everyone's childhood friendships got corrupted at some point. Henry and Margaret stopped hanging out when high school started due to their competitiveness. There is no more the Purple Hand gang, he doesn't even want to come out of his room lately. It's a wonder he continues coming to school.
Dee rests her head on the palm of her hand wishing is was summer already. Students are pretty stressed because of the upcoming exam period. They wait for time to go by so they can go home and study even more. Getting into university seems to be a major thing adding more pressure. A few minutes later the door opens once more and Battle-Axe enters.
-Mister Henry, what made you change your mind and attend my class? She asks in a sarcastic tone. He looks at her silently, he is used to getting humiliated. The rest of the students lower their heads trying not to laugh, apart from Dee. The old woman notices her stare but decides not to say anything, at least not for now.
-Take out your literature books and turn to page 52. Now! She exclaims strictly. Ralph lets out a groan. He doesn't like literature, not even a little. What irritates him even more is that Battle-Axe prefers to read and explain poems. No one likes poetry, except for some of the girls, including the one sitting next to him.
-Gurinder read! The young woman stands up quickly with the book in her hands.
-It doesn't scare me where this pencil does not leave ink but traces of melted sky nor does it frighten me how instead of paper I write on your body, warm amoeba from fragrant chamomile, all around, everywhere. It only scares me where someday, I'll write on paper again, poems in ink. Most of the boys have a disgusted expression on their faces. Margaret sticks her tongue out pretending not to like the poem.
-Wonderful Gurinder, you may sit down. Battle-Axe says getting up from her seat.
-Gross. Henry whispers under his breath.
-You have thirty minutes to write down what this poem is about and your opinion whether you agree with the poet or not. Your time starts now. She hands a piece of paper to every student. This is one of her ways to maintain piece and quiet in class knowing how much they dislike poetry.
-I hate that woman. Ralph murmurs rolling his eyes.
-This one should be quite easy since you're a teenager. Dee says making him look at her kinda confused. How can she like all that bittersweet crap? It's nothing more but words talking about idiotic things like love. That's the moment Ralph realizes what Dee meant. That's the hidden meaning of the poem.
-How did you find out so quickly? Have you read it before or something?
-What is the thing we might get ourselves into without realizing but as time goes on we don't want it to end? He raises an eyebrow hearing her question. Is this a kind of trick? Is she trying to tell him something?
-I can't think of an answer now, will you tell me? She lets out a slight chuckle before focusing on her task.
-You will find your answer sooner or later.
-But we only have half an hour! Please, Dee!
-Silence Ralph! One more word an you're going to analyze three poems for homework. The boy immediately lowers his head. When is this terrible woman finally going to retire? He glances at Dee one last time before trying to figure what she meant with that mysterious question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you liked it! If you have any kind of questions let me know.
The poem Gurinder reads does not belong to me, it belongs to Greek poet and author Chloe Koutsoubeli.
See you next weekend for chapter 2!

Note: This novel was translated a long time ago, right when I was only just starting to learn Japanese. Originally it started as a project where I was testing to see how successfully I could Google Translate the novels, combined with a bit of manual research for terms the machine couldn't understand. Please note that much of this novel (most notably the entire first half) were almost entirely machine translated, explaining it's questionable quality.
While it was machine translated, I looked over it some years later and, even though its a pretty lousy translation, it's not necessarily inaccurate. It still functions fine as a basic reading of the text, just has some nuance in lines and minor details lost compared to the original (some of which I fixed, but obviously this doesn't change the fact that it's an inherently flawed translation). I'm planning on retranslating it eventually, but it's not at the top of my priority list for these reasons.
Translator's notes: I believe Mr. Fugo's name is supposed to be Hugo, considering the European setting and that fu/hu are effectively one sound in Japanese. There's a bit of a double meaning to his name, however. Fugō means "millionaire" in Japanese. His full title, which I translated as "Millionaire Fugo", is Daifugō Fūgō--"Grand Millionaire Millionaire", basically, though Mr. Fugo's name is pronounced very slightly differently than fugō (millionaire) is pronounced.

Hello everyone! Here is the second chapter of my Horrid Henry fic! Sorry for not posting it earlier, please enjoy 💕
✨BROKEN HEARTS BOULEVARD✨
chapter 2: Poems in ink
School time is finally over. The students are gathering their stuff and put everything they won't need in their lockers.
-Phew! The weather got warm pretty early this year. Henry says sweeping the sweat from his forehead. He turns to look at Ralph who seems not to be paying much attention. He is oddly quiet today, especially for someone who loves pulling pranks and telling jokes. Are you alright, man? You keep zoning out. He asks a bit hesitantly.
-Ah yeah. I was just thinking about something. Ralph replies without looking at his childhood friend. He pretends to be organizing his locker but he is really absent-minded. After a while he finally closes the locker and grabs his bag. Are you still having the house for your own this weekend? He decides to ask as they are making their way outside.
-Yes. My parents and that annoying little brat will be staying at my aunt's place. Henry answers feeling relieved he is going to have some time for himself.
-Is Dee going to join us as well? Ralph's question makes Henry to stop short. The three of them usually spend a lot of time together, although she mostly hangs out with the latter since her house is just across the street. They first met five years ago when her family moved in England for working matters. He didn't seem to like her at the beginning. She was very quiet and rarely talked. When she would sit on the porch and Henry was outside playing, she would wave at him but never really say much more than a "hello" or a "good morning". Her behavior annoyed him, mostly because he wanted to get to know her better. One day while she was reading outside, like every Saturday morning, he grabbed some of his favorite comics and crossed the street. He approached her a bit hesitantly and placed them next to her.
-This is what you should be reading instead. It's more fun. He said proudly. He was sure she was gonna throw them away or call them boring like Margaret did.
-Thank you so much. Are you going to read with me? Her question got him off guard. She smiled politely at him changing his opinion about girls. For the first time he was feeling anxious, not because he was grounded or sent in detention, but because a girl was talking to him.
-Sure! He sat next to her as she put her book on the side in order to read what Henry gave her. The boy took a quick glance at the book. "The fox and the red dance" was written on the cover. Dee noticed him staring.
-It's a book of poems. I really like poetry. She admitted handing Henry the book. Unlike her, he didn't like poetry, not even a little. He thought it was only about stupid stuff like love and nothing more. While the young girl was trying to figure out which comic to read first, Henry examined the book. While turning the pages a poem caught his attention.
"It doesn't scare me
where this pencil
does not leave ink
but traces of melted sky
nor does it frighten me
how instead of paper
I write on your body,
warm amoeba from fragrant chamomile,
all around, everywhere.
It only scares me
where someday,
I'll write on paper again, poems in ink. "
Henry read under his breath. He had no idea what it meant but since Dee liked it, it probably had to do with stuff girls like. Girls like her.
-Ah, this is one of my favorite poems. I haven't figured out its meaning yet but the words are so beautiful! She said softly. The very first poem Henry read was because of her. The very first poem Henry read was her favorite. The very first poem Henry read was for everyone to read but for a few to understand.
-Are you coming or not? Ralph's voice brings him back to reality. The brunette boy has his eyebrow raised at him waiting for an answer.
-Y-Yeah sorry, I thought someone called me. Henry replies stuttering a bit. Finally he makes it home, he waves at Ralph before closing the door behind him as quietly as possible.
-Welcome home Henry! A pitched voice says making him sigh.
-What do you want worm? He asks bitterly. All he hopes for is his brother to "magically" disappear one day and never hear his irritating, "angelic" voice ever again.
-Henry you should talk more politely to Peter. You are not twelve anymore! His mother slightly growls furrowing her eyebrows at the young man.
-Yeah, yeah I know. Sorry or whatever worm. Henry says with a shrug before taking off he shoes and heading upstairs. He just can't take this kind of behavior from his parents anymore. Peter with his excellent manners and the high grades. Always the top student in his class. Peter who always has a smile on his face, the one who never raises his voice even when he argues. Henry grits his teeth and throws a punch at the wall, loud enough to be almost heard downstairs.
He takes a deep breath and sits on his bed. His mother is right, he is not a child. He is growing up and every year that passes she just stops caring. All that's in her eyes when she looks at him is disappointment. He looks down at his hands, the one he punched the wall with is bleeding, pretty bad. He opens his bedroom window to check if his father is outside gardening as usual and then, as quiet as a mouse, climbs down. He tip toes to the other side of the street and knocks on the door while taking a quick glance behind him to make sure no one saw him.
-Oh, hello Henry. Dee says after opening the door. She then notices the blood stains on his shirt as well as his bleeding hand. Oh my God, what happened to you?! She exclaims worryingly stepping on the side for the boy to come inside. She quickly closes the door behind her and leads Henry upstairs where the bathroom is.
-Don't worry, really, it's not important. It doesn't even hurt. He says jokingly but Dee gives him a glare.
-What did you do? She asks as she tries to find the first aid kit.
-Rock n' roll. He replies sticking his tongue out at her annoying her even more. She makes Henry to sit at the edge of the bathtub. She sits next to him and starts cleaning the blood from his hand. She prays it does not need stitches.
-Damn it Henry, why do you have to be so reckless at times? She murmurs, mostly to herself.
-I don't know. Can I ask you something as well? The girl nods waiting for his question.
-Are you in love with my best friend?
-----------------------------
The poem apparently plays an important role in this story!
What do you think is the purpose of Henry's question?
See you next weekend for the next chapter! 💖
