Discover essential tips for managing your child's chronic illness effectively. Find expert advice from Dr. Prashant Gandhi, a renowned pediatrician in Borivali West.
Caring for a child with a chronic illness can be emotionally and physically challenging for any parent or caregiver. From navigating treatment options to ensuring a good quality of life, the journey can feel overwhelming at times. However, with the right strategies and support, it's possible to effectively manage your child's condition while maintaining their well-being. Here are some valuable tips to help you navigate this challenging terrain:
Educate Yourself: Knowledge is power when it comes to managing a chronic illness. Take the time to educate yourself about your child's condition, including symptoms, treatment options, and potential complications. Understanding the illness will empower you to make informed decisions and advocate for your child's needs.
Build a Strong Support System: Don't hesitate to lean on family, friends, and healthcare professionals for support. Joining a support group or online community can also provide valuable emotional support and practical advice from others who are going through similar experiences.
Communicate Openly: Foster open and honest communication with your child about their illness. Encourage them to ask questions and express their feelings. Be prepared to provide age-appropriate explanations and reassurance, and remind them that they are not alone in their journey.
Prioritize Self-Care: As a caregiver, it's essential to prioritize your own well-being. Remember to take breaks, practice self-care activities, and seek support when needed. By taking care of yourself, you'll be better equipped to provide the best possible care for your child.
Stay Organized: Managing a chronic illness often requires keeping track of medications, appointments, and medical records. Invest in a good organizational system, such as a calendar or mobile app, to help you stay on top of appointments and treatment plans.
Follow Medical Recommendations: Work closely with your child's healthcare team to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to their needs. Be diligent about following medical recommendations, including medication schedules, therapy sessions, and preventive care such as vaccinations.
Monitor Symptoms: Keep a close eye on your child's symptoms and alert their healthcare provider to any changes or concerns. Early intervention can help prevent complications and ensure that your child receives the appropriate care and support.
Promote Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Encourage your child to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods, getting regular exercise, and getting plenty of rest. These habits can help strengthen their immune system and improve their overall well-being.
Stay Positive: While managing a chronic illness can be challenging, it's important to maintain a positive outlook and focus on the things you can control. Celebrate small victories, seek out moments of joy, and remind yourself that you're doing the best you can for your child.
Seek Professional Help: If you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope, don't hesitate to seek professional help. A therapist or counselor can provide additional support and guidance to help you navigate the emotional challenges of caring for a child with a chronic illness.
In conclusion, managing a child's chronic illness requires patience, resilience, and support. By educating yourself, building a strong support system, and prioritizing self-care, you can effectively navigate the challenges and provide the best possible care for your child. Remember that you're not alone in this journey, and there are resources and professionals available to help you every step of the way.

Indian Non-Fiction
A list of books on India, almost all of which are by Indian writers; most of them are about history in one way or other but they also involve politics, culture, and religion. (Doesn’t include writing in Indian languages because most of my non-English reading has been limited to fiction). I’ve also added links to online editions for ones I found.
History
Pre-, Postcolonial India (+ other assorted history)
Land of Seven Rivers by Sanjeev Sanyal - looks at Indian history through its geography; great if you want an introduction. it’s a small book but has very interesting insights; definitely would recommend. Also check his Ocean of Churn, which looks at Indian history in terms of the Indian Ocean
The Lost River: On the Trail of the Sarasvati by Michel Danino - looks into the research and evidence on the existence of the Sarasvati river and makes a case for its existence
Hooghly: The Global History of a River by Robert Ivermee - about Hooghly as a centre of a trans-Asiatic and trans-oceanic commercial network
Indians: A Brief History of a Civilization by Namit Arora - what it says, it’s new and was well-received; it paints a holistic picture to start you off
Modern South India by Rajmohan Gandhi - this one’s new, and I’ve only barely read it. It’s the history of south India from the coming of the Portuguese to modern times and it’s really important because we don’t study about this or even talk about this in mainstream conversations
India Moving by Chinmay Tumbe - on migration within India and how migrants and migrations has shaped history, politics, and policy
The Courtesan, the Mahatma, and the Italian Brahmin by Manu Pillai - a selection of stories (real ones) from Indian history; very engagingly written and very, very interesting stories. Also check other works by Pillai - The Ivory Throne and Rebel Sultans. He also writes a regular column for the Mint
Panipat by Vishwas Patil - (a translation from Marathi) a history of the Battle at Panipat in 1761, which basically created a vacuum for the East India Company to step in and grab power; really expansive and highly detailed
Rama and Ayodhya by Meenakshi Jain - on the Ramayana and its cultural spread across Indian since the ancient times; also about the Ayodhya movement
Decolonizing the Hindu Mind by Koenraad Elst - lays down the ideological and intellectual development of the broad umbrella Hindu revivalist movement; really good starting point to understand the rise and development of a significant chunk of Indian politics in post-independence years; really straightforward work, very clear in its objectives
1962: the War that Wasn’t by Shiv Kunal Verma - on the Sino-Indian conflict in 1962; haven’t read it yet, but it’s supposed to be one of the best ones on the conflict
1971: A Global History of the Creation of Bangladesh by Srinath Raghavan - on the creation of Bangladesh; places the history in a Cold War context and includes all stakeholders like the US, China and Russia; has multiple layers to its narrative. The Most Dangerous Place by Srinath Raghavan - on American foreign policy in South Asia right from the earliest times.
Cricket Country by Prashant Kidambi - about how cricket took hold in colonial India and the making of the first all-India cricket team; super excited about this book, I added it to my list too
A Corner of a Foreign Field by Ramchandra Guha - on the growth of cricket in India; takes into account race, caste, and religion in pre- and postcolonial times; looks at how the sport was adapted in local cultures and how it became an expression of resistance
Himalaya: A Human History by Ed Douglas - basically what it says; very thorough and very fresh; about more than India because it takes Himalaya as a unit and so it’s really transnational in its approach
Colonial India
Plassey by Sudeep Chakravarti - a very detailed study of the Battle of Plassey which kicked off the colonial project in India
India’s War: World War II and the Making of Modern South Asia by Srinath Raghavan - on India’s involvement and contribution in World War II
An Era of Darkness by Shashi Tharoor - about the economic impact of the British Empire in India; highly elaborate and detailed work on the economic drain in India during colonisation
Goa Inquisition by A. K. Priolkar - about the Portuguese colonisation of Goa and the subsequent evangelical campaign by the Portuguese crown and the Roman church; very, very, thorough and great if you (like me) know nothing about the whole thing
Hicky’s Bengal Gazette by James Otis - on the development and running of India’s first English newspaper; a fun read because honestly the story of the paper is very dramatic and full of political/colonial gossip; also tells you a lot about the early ideas of free press in colonial India
Sati: Evangelicals, Baptist Missionaries, and the Changing Colonial Discourse by Meenakshi Jain - about the discourse on sati and the need for reform; reviews the idea of the abolition of sati being a progressive act
Castes of Mind by Nicholas Dirks - about the intersection of caste, race, and colonial knowledge and policy
Politics, Sociology, Commentaries
The Indian Trilogy by V. S. Naipaul - a semi-autobiographical work on the kind of civilisation Naipaul sees India to be; very, very honest; paints a picture of postcolonial India over the years. the trilogy includes An Area of Darkness, India: A Wounded Civilization, and India: A Million Mutinies Now. I’ve only read the first one; but I’ve heard and read great things about them all
Republic of Caste by Anand Teltumbde - about caste in post-Independence India; looks at political and policy-related developments and their impact on caste dynamics; sort of subaltern history; it is a little difficult to understand if you don’t already have some amount of knowledge on Indian politics; also a very academic work so not exactly easy to read - I’ve only read parts of it myself
Annihilation of Caste by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar - technically a speech that was never delivered because it was thought to be too explosive; argues that caste is rooted in oppression and for the complete destruction of the caste system; an excellent work, although you do need to know about caste in its religious and political terms. Really just read all of his writing (it’s an entire 14 volume set), they’re excellent and far ahead of their time
The Idea of India by Sunil Khilnani - an analysis of sorts of what pre-colonial and colonial society and the freedom struggle mean for the republic and the kind of nation-building that has happened.
A New India of India: Individual Rights in a Civilisational State by Harsh Madhusudan, Rajeev Mantri - rethinks the “idea of India”; traces cultural and historical legacy in making of modern politics, and explores how individual rights are reconciled with the state’s goals; great thing is that it takes a fresh look at things; perfect to be read after The Idea of India
10 Judgements that Changed India by Zia Mody - recounts ten most important legal cases and court rulings in India; good starting point at understanding how the law works and its development
Republic of Religion by Abhinav Chandrachud - about secularism and religion in India in light of colonial rule, and its implications in postcolonial India
India Unbound by Gurcharan Das - it’s a history from the Independence to 2000 that focuses largely on the political economy and unpacks the kind of growth we’ve seen; it mixes the personal with the political/economic progress and it’s really easy to get into; best when read with his India Grows at Night
People
Kanshiram by Badri Narayan - a biography of Kanshi Ram, who pretty much laid the foundation of modern Dalit political movement in post-independence India; looks into how the movement developed under Kanshi Ram; a useful insight into both the man as well as early Dalit politics in India
Savarkar by Vikram Sampath - first part of a two-part biography (second part isn’t out yet) on V. D. Savarkar, one of India’s first revolutionary freedom fighter; looks at an insane variety of sources and highly detailed; a must read.
History Men by T. C. A. Raghavan - about the friendship of three of colonial India’s first native historians (Sir Jadunath Sarkar, G. S. Sardesai, Raghubir Sinh) and how they collaborated and supported each other in writing Indian history using scientific methods; also looks at their contributions to Indian history in general
Rammohun Roy by Amiya P. Sen - a biography of colonial India’s first social and religious reformers who reinterpreted Hinduism for modern times; very well-written, great for understanding how early reform worked out
Daughters of the Sun by Ira Mukhoty - about women in the Mughal dynasty. note that it only looks at women connected to and part of the royal household, but an interesting read nonetheless. Her other work, Heroines: Powerful Indian Women in Myth and History is a wonderful book on women in history right from the ancient times; also analyses and explains the changing perceptions of women
R. N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster by Nitin Gokhale - really, really, really interesting book on R. N. Kao and the development of India’s espionage machinery
Art
Indian Art by Partha Mitter - a history, he’s one of the best on Indian art, very useful
The Dance of Shiva by Ananda Coomaraswamy - a collection of essays on Indian artistic tradition in aesthetic and philosophical terms
The Spirit of Indian Painting by B. N. Goswamy - specifically about painting; explores different themes in different regionals tyles; also check other books by Goswamy, he’s kind of a big deal in art history
Indian Painting: the Lesser Known Traditions by Anna Dallapiccola - pretty much what it says; takes into account a ton of styles and traditions that are lumped together ‘folk art’
Cities, Travel etc
The Great Indian Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux - four-month journey from London to India by trains only; explores themes like colonialism, American imperialism, poverty. One of my favourites
The Epic City by Kushanava Chaudhary - memoir on Kolkata as the author explores and re-discovers the city when he comes back to it after staying in the US for most of his life; a lovely book, delves in the history of Kolkata a little in relation to how the city still feels it, how its people are still negotiating with it, and the kind of future the author sees for Kolkata
Bombay, Meri Jaan by Jerry Pinto & Naresh Fernandes - a collection of essays on Mumbai by a wide collection of people from Naipaul to Khushwant Singh to Manto and Salman Rushdie, compiled by Jerry Pinto; one of my favourites on the city
No Full Stops in India by Mark Tully - writings from when Tully was a journalist in India; commentaries on things he witnesses, also includes a fair amount of personal involvement; explores poverty, postcolonial development, religion and culture in post-independence India
Mumbai Fables by Gyan Prakash - a history of Mumbai city; looks at colonisation, industrial development, the regional politics, architecture and art, as well as the underworld/mafia
Banaras by Diana L. Eck - on Varanasi (Banaras), probably India’s holiest city; tells its history from its conception to now; blends religion, mythology, politics, and history. Also check Eck’s India: A Sacred Geography
The City of Djinns by William Dalrymple - semi-autobiography about living in Delhi; looks at the legacies of independence and partition while thinking about its past
The Book of Indian Journeys by Dom Moraes - it’s an anthology of essays and excerpts from works of a bunch of writers on travelling in India, it’s a favourite when I’m travelling
This is not exhaustive and I will keep updating when I find the time. I’ve tried to keep it diverse (and organised) in its content; hope you find something you like :)

A massive fire swept through a factory in Anaj Mandiarea of north Delhi on Sunday morning, leaving 43 labourers dead and many others injured, police said. The death toll is likely to climb as many of the injured have suffered grievous injuries, according to fire and police officials. A total of 59 people were inside the factory operating from a residential area when the blaze broke out, they said. The fire was reported at 5:22 AM following which 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Chaotic scenes were witnesed at the site of the fire incident with relatives and locals rushing to the area. According to a man whose three nephews were working at the factory, "At least 12-15 machines were installed in the unit. I have no idea about the factory owner. "My nephews Mohammed Imran and Ikramuddin were inside the factory. I don't know their whereabouts," the distraught man said. According to him, many units were operating from the premises which was located in a congested area. Many people trapped inside were rescued and rushed to RML Hospital, LNJP and Hindu Rao Hospital, fire officials said. 34 people were brought dead to LNJP hospital and smoke inhalation was the primary cause of the death. Some of the bodies were charred, Dr Kishore Singh, Medical Superintendent, LNJP, said. Out of the 15 injured brought to LNJP, nine people are under observation and others have partial injuries, he said. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the fire incident as tragic and said firemen were doing their best. "V v tragic news. Rescue operations going on. Firemen doing their best. Establishing good sleep habits in children is essential for their overall health and well-being. As a pediatrician in Borivali West, Dr. Prashant Gandhi understands the importance of quality sleep for children's growth and development. In this article, we'll explore expert tips from Dr. Gandhi for promoting healthy sleep habits in children.
Set a Consistent Bedtime: Establishing a consistent bedtime routine helps regulate children's internal body clocks, making it easier for them to fall asleep and wake up at the same time each day. Aim for a bedtime that allows for adequate rest based on your child's age and individual needs.
Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Encourage calming activities before bedtime, such as reading a book, taking a warm bath, or practicing gentle yoga or deep breathing exercises. Avoid stimulating activities like screen time or rough play, as these can interfere with the body's natural sleep-wake cycle.
Ensure a Comfortable Sleep Environment: Create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping the bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. Invest in a comfortable mattress and bedding to promote restful sleep. Consider using white noise machines or blackout curtains to block out external disturbances.
Limit Screen Time Before Bed: Exposure to screens, such as smartphones, tablets, or televisions, before bedtime can disrupt sleep patterns and delay the onset of sleep. Establish a screen-free zone in the bedroom and limit screen time at least an hour before bedtime to allow the brain to wind down.
Encourage Physical Activity During the Day: Regular physical activity during the day helps children expend energy and promotes better sleep at night. Encourage outdoor play, sports, or active games to keep children active and engaged during the day.
Monitor Caffeine Intake: Limit your child's consumption of caffeine-containing beverages, such as soda or energy drinks, especially in the afternoon and evening. Caffeine can interfere with sleep and contribute to restlessness and insomnia.
Be Mindful of Bedtime Fears: Address any fears or anxieties your child may have about bedtime by providing reassurance and support. Offer comfort objects, such as a favorite stuffed animal or blanket, and engage in calming bedtime rituals to help alleviate anxiety.
Seek Professional Guidance if Needed: If your child continues to struggle with sleep despite implementing these tips, consider consulting with a pediatrician or child specialist. Dr. Prashant Gandhi, a trusted pediatrician in Borivali West, can provide personalized guidance and support to address your child's sleep concerns.
Establishing good sleep habits is crucial for children's physical, emotional, and cognitive development. By following these expert tips from Dr. Prashant Gandhi, you can help your child enjoy restful nights and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. For personalized guidance and support, consult with Dr. Gandhi, the best pediatrician in Borivali West, to ensure your child's optimal sleep health.

WHO IS THE NEXT CM OF AP IN 2019
Tumblr media
Well, according to many surveys and general public opinion, it is the current Chief-Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Hon'ble Nara Chandra Babu Naidu rising to power once again, and he will flick his enemies like a bug on forearm on his way to the prestigious chair.
His enemies,
YS Jagan: the so-called Jagananna, the son of a factionist, the grandson of another great factionist, circled around courts and jails to cover up his, his father’s and his grandfather’s illegally procured property. There is an excellent story behind then chief minister, Dr. Y S Rajashekhar Reddy's death. The "factionist's" arrogance couldn't be contained inside when he won the second term chief minister of undivided Andhra. A power dispute with Sonia Gandhi and Ambani resulted in his getting into a chopper with a retired pilot, who was about to die from an advanced stage cancer. The chopper was carefully crashed in a strategic place where it was difficult to summon immediate help: the mighty Nallamalla forest. It took two days and military and media and volunteers to find the missing Chief Minister body hanging on a branch inside the dense forest.
The black box audio was never released. While a typical passenger flight takes hours of safety check-up before it runs on the runway, what could've possibly gone wrong in a VVVIP's chopper? Why did a retired pilot who was about to die to receive the job? Was there nobody else? How did pilot's incompetent sons end up big in reliance industries just after their father's death? Why didn't the helicopter crash near highways or populous places? Why did the chopper lose contact with Air traffic control?
People believe it was a murder. The then CM was murdered just like his father: The fearsome Rajireddy. A legend goes, when YSR was studying MBBS in Karnataka, a local student gang beat him bad. When the father got to know, he sent his loyal goons to kill them. It's not uncommon in their home to kill people on a whim. They must kill to survive, they must kill for pride. And like every factionist, the mighty Rajireddy also lost his life to someone else's revenge. The point is to point out the factionist genes and upbringing that now govern Jagan's behaviour. He openly stated in a public addressing that it is okay to burn Chandra Babu Naidu in the middle of a street. Another time, a local goon made his way through the security and pushed his sword into Jagan's body. You see, Birds of a "factionist" feather, flock together.
It is very easy for him to pair up with Modi, trace the perpetrators behind his father’s death and let his "factionistic" juices flow out once he gets to power. People who grew up like him, amidst violence, revenge and stupidity, love his words and ideals. They are the people who vote for him and fortunately, they don't make the majority. The majority of the state is soft-hearted and educated.
It's no wonder mighty people get connected with more mighty people. Master strategist Mr Prashant kishor is the campaign runner for Jagan, and PK loves to follow the textbook. Jagan’s "Navarathnalu" concept was copied from Nitish's "7 Resolves" campaign in Bihar elections. Door to door campaigning similar to Punjab, Bihar and Tanzania. Jagan's sessions with ground level voters similar to Amarinder's Coffee with Captain, Modi's Chai pe charcha and Rahul Gandhi's Khaat pe charcha. They couldn't find a nice Telugu translation of those slogans so it's just happening without a name. You want to know what Jagan's next campaigning move? Just look at IPac's previous work on their official website. IPac should've been contesting for the CM of Andhra Pradesh. Some of YSR’s policies, Arogyasree, Rs.2 per kilo rice and Indiramma homes deserve a honorary mention. 108 service was the best of its time and is now adopted by 15 different states across the country.
The second enemy, the most charming contestant for Chief minister, the youth icon Mr Pawan Kalyan. His brotherly bonding with Chiranjeevi is no less than Ram-Lakshman's. Chiranjeevi stepped in films and so did his brother. Chiranjeevi conceived a party to change the fate of the state and so did his brother. Chiranjeevi earned a lot of cash and the little brother is right where the big brother was. Chiranjeevi got tired after a while and so will be the brother. These movie stars have grown too comfortable in their lavishness and it's not unusual when little brother to looks up to big brother for guidance in life. If Pawan Kalyan was so concerned with changing the state's fate, why did this concern or ambition never reflect in his movies? Why do all his movies revolve around young, pretty and fertile delicacies? Cash making right?
Now we talk about our current chief minister Mr Chandra Babu Naidu, I'll only finish with only one quality of his. He was backstabbed by a very powerful person, Mr Narendra Modi, as the prime minister's political motives changed in the course of 4 years. It takes guts and experience to stand against giants while also holding a little, under-developed baby called 'the bifurcated AndhraPradesh.' And he did his job fine. He restored the infant's self-esteem, lift up its morale and set it on a path to healthy development and happiness. It is better to entrust a new-born state to a person with "political" Curriculum Vitae instead of a factionist who might be carrying a factionist family legacy of untimely death or a Pop-actor who's most of the adult life was concerned with sleeping around pretty women.

Railways restarts passenger trains Meanwhile, the Railways cautiously resumed its passenger service after over 50 days, as three trains chugged out of New Delhi and five others left for the National Capital, each carrying around 1,100 passengers who first underwent screening and followed other norms necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, under the strict vigilance of authorities. In an unprecedented measure, the railways, which is called the lifeline of the country, had suspended passenger service from March 22 midnight due to the pandemic, leaving lakhs of people stranded as road and air services were also stopped during the the coronavirus lockdown. Passengers at the boarding stations expressed mixed feelings of relief and apprehension, with many arriving hours before the scheduled train departures. The Railways has issued new guidelines for travel on these special trains , asking passengers to carry their own food and linen and arrive at stations at least 90 minutes before departure for health screening in the wake of the pandemic. The railways also made it mandatory for passengers to download the Aarogya Setu App. Shramik special trains for migrants also continued to operate, with the first Shramik special train from Mysuru division of South Western Railway with leaving for Bihar on Tuesday with 1,428 migrant workers on board. Around 2,400 migrants from Surat and Pune have been brought in two special trains to Uttarakhand, officials told PTI. My dear countrymen, Namaskar. Today is the holy day of Ram Navami. My heartiest greetings to countrymen on this pious, festive occasion. We have seen how closely the power of ‘Ram Naam’, the chant of Lord Ram’s name, permeated every moment of revered Bapu’s life. A while ago, when distinguished dignitaries of all ASEAN Countries were here on the 26th of January, they were accompanied by cultural troupes from their respective countries. And it’s a matter of immense pride that a majority of these countries presented the Ramayan in front of us. This signifies that Ram & Ramayan continues to inspire and have a positive impact, not just in India, but in that part of the world too. Once again, my best wishes to all of you on the occasion of Ramnavami.
My dear countrymen, just like every time earlier, I have received a rather large number of letters, e mails, phone calls and comments from you. I read a post written on MyGov by Komal Thakkar ji, where she has referred to starting on-line courses for Sanskrit. Along with being IT professional, your love for Sanskrit has gladdened me. I have instructed the concerned department to convey to you efforts being made in this direction. I shall also request listeners of Mann Ki Baat who are engaged in the field of Sanskrit, to ponder over ways & means to take Komalji’s suggestion forward.
Shriman Ghanshyam Kumar Ji of Village Baraakar, District Nalanda, Bihar – I read your comments written on the Narendra Modi App. The concerns you have raised on the depleting groundwater levels is indeed of great importance.
Shriman Sakal Shastriji, you mentioned ‘Karnataka’… you beautifully maintained a delicate balance between words when you wrote ‘Ayushman Bharat’; ‘Long live India’ will be possible only when we express ‘Ayushman Bhoomi; ‘Long live the land’; and that will be conceivable only when we begin feeling concerned about every living being on this land. You have urged one and all to retain and keep aside some water for birds & animals, during summer time. Sakal Ji, I have conveyed your sentiments to our listeners.
Shriman Yogesh Bhadresha Ji has asked me to speak to the youth concerning their health. He feels that our youth are physically weak, compared to those of other Asian countries. Yogesh ji, I feel I should speak in detail to all of you on ‘Fit India’. In fact, all you young people can come together to launch a movement of Fit India.
Recently, the President of France paid a visit to Kashi, Varanasi based Shriman Prashant Kumar has written that glimpses of that visit were extremely touching, appealing & left a deep impact. And it is his heart felt desire to see all those photos & videos being shared on social media. Prashant ji, the Government of India has already done that on social media and the Narendra Modi App, beginning that very day. You may now like them, re-tweet them, post them to your friends.
Anagha, Jayesh and many other children from Chennai have written & posted to me their heartfelt thoughts on the gratitude cards, the post script to the book ‘Exam Warriors’. Let me tell Anagha, Jayesh & other children that these letters enliven me up after a hard day’s work. Now, if I start including all those phone calls, comments, whatever I could read or hear, many of which touched my heart; if I exclusively speak about them, perhaps I’ll require a few months to respond to them in some way or the other.
This time, maximum number of letters are from children who have written about exams. They have shared their vacation plans. They’ve expressed their concern on the availability of water for birds & animals. Our farmer brothers & sisters have written on Kisan Melas, Farmer Carnivals and activities revolving around farming, being held across the country. Quite a few active citizens have sent in suggestions on the subject of water conservation. Ever since we have begun conversing with each other in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ through the medium of radio, I have noticed a pattern that in the sweltering heat of this season, most letters focus around topic pertaining to summer time. Just before examinations, letter pour in, touching on the anxieties of our young student friends who are about to appear. During the festival season, our festivals, our culture, our traditions are focused upon. This means, Mann Ki Batein, matters close to our hearts, alter with the change in season. And it’s equally true that our heartfelt thoughts do bring about a change of season in someone’s life, figuratively speaking. And why should not things change? In utterances of yours, in your experiences, in the examples that you quote, there exists immense inspiration, unfathomable energy, unparalleled warmth; a resolve to bring about something new for the country. In a way, this is endowed with the might to transform the entire season-cycle of the country. When I get to read in your letters how a rickshaw puller from Karimgunj in Assam, Ahmed Ali, has built nine schools for underprivileged children, I witness firsthand the indomitable will-power this country possesses. When I heard the story of Kanpur based Dr. Ajit Mohan Choudhary, of how he visits the underprivileged on footpaths and offers free medicines to them, it gives one an opportunity to feel the sense of brotherhood that prevails in the country. Thirteen years ago, on account of a delay in medical treatment, a Cab driver from Kolkata, Saidul Laskar lost his sister. He vowed to construct a hospital in order to ensure that none of the underprivileged face a similar situation due to lack of medical aid. In this mission of his, Saidul sold off family jewellery and raised funds through charity. His cab passengers too contributed large-heartedly. A young engineer girl donated her first salary for this noble cause. This way, after mobilizing funds for twelve long years, Saidul’s mammoth efforts paid rich dividends. Today, through sheer hard work and a firm resolve, a thirty bedded hospital has finally come up at Punri Village near Kolkata. This is the power of New India. In Uttar Pradesh, when a woman builds 125 toilets after overcoming steep challenges, inspiring women to exercise their due rights, it gives us a glimpse of ‘Matri- Shakti’, the power of maternal love & caring. Innumerable shining examples like these are the hallmark of our country. Today the whole world has changed the way it looks at India. The name ‘India’ now evokes a sense of awe & respect; the reason behind it is the ‘Purusharth’, the resolute yet selfless inner strength of such illustrious sons & daughters of Mother India. Today, the entire country, the youth, women, the marginalized, the underprivileged, the middle class, in fact every section has awakened to a new confidence … YES, we can go forward, the country can take great strides. An atmosphere of positivity built on a self confidence filled with hope has pervaded all over. This self confidence, this very positivity will by a catalyst in realising our resolve of New India, of making our dream come true.
My dear countrymen, the coming months are very crucial for our farming brothers and sisters. That is why a large number of letters on agriculture have been received. This time, I requisitioned and viewed videos of discussions with our farmers on DD Kisan Channel of Doordarshan and I feel that each farmer should get connected to this DD Kisan Channel of Doordarshan, view it and adopt those practices in his/ her own farm. From Mahatma Gandhi to Shastri ji, Lohia ji, Chaudhari Charan Singh ji, Chaudhari Devi Lal ji – they all recognized agriculture and the farmer as vital aspects of the nation’s economy and also for the common man’s life. How attached was Mahatma Gandhi attached to the soil, they farms and the farmer is reflected from this sentence in which he said- “To forget how to dig earth and to tend the soil, is to forget ourselves. Similarly, Lal Bahadur Shastriji generally insisted on conservation of trees, plants and vegetation and also highlighted the importance of an improvised agricultural infrastructure. Dr. Ram Manohar Lal ji had talked of creating a mass awakening on an extensive scale about the necessary measures to ensure a better income for our farmers and provide better irrigation facilities and to increase food and milk production. Chaudhari Charan Singh in his speech in 1979 had urged our farmers to use new technology and to adopt new innovations and underlined their vital significance. I recently visited the Krishi Unnati Mela organized in New Delhi.
It was a pleasant experience for me to talk to our farmer brothers and sisters and scientists and to listen and understand their experiences in farming and getting to know about innovations in the agricultural sector. But one thing that impressed me most was Meghalaya and the hard work of the farmers of the state. This state has a small area but it has attained a grand success. Our farmers in Meghalaya, in the year 2015-16, achieved record production as compared to the last five years. They have showed that if once the targets are set, spirits are high and with a strong resolve, the set targets can most certainly be attained. Today, the farmers have technology to help them while they work hard in their fields. This has provided a big boost to our agro- producers. I have received a number of letters in which a large number of farmers have written about MSP and they wanted that I should talk to them at length over this.
Brothers and sisters, in this year’s budget a big decision has been taken to ensure that farmers get a fair price for their produce. It has been decided that the MSP of notified crops will be fixed at least one and a half times of their cost. If I may elaborate on this, MSP will include labour cost of other workers employed, expenses incurred on own animals and cost of animals and machinery taken on rent, cost of seeds, cost of each type of fertilizer used, irrigation cost, land revenue paid to the State Government, interest paid on working capital, ground rent in case of leased land and not only this but also the cost of labour of the farmer himself or any other person of his family who contributes his or her labour in agricultural work will also be added to the cost of production. Moreover, an extensive exercise on agricultural reforms is being undertaken across the country in order to ensure that our farmers get a fair price for their crop. Efforts are on to connect local village mandis to wholesale market and then on with the global market. Twenty- two thousand rural haats in the country will be upgraded by creating the necessary infrastructure and these will be integrated with APMC and e-NAM platform- so that the farmers would not have to go to distant places for selling their produce. In other words, such a system is being set up where in farms in any part of the country will have a market-connect.
My dear countrymen, this year Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations will begin. How should the country celebrate it? Swachch Bharat is already our resolve; besides this, how can our 125 crore countrymen pay the best tribute to Gandhiji by working in close harmony? Which newer programmes can be initiated? What new practices or procedures can be adopted? I request you all to share your opinions and suggestions with everyone via MyGov. What should be the logo for ‘Gandhi 150’? What should be the slogan, mantra or a catch-phrase? Send your suggestions on all of these. We all have to pay a memorable tribute to Bapu and have to take the country to newer heights by drawing inspiration from Bapu.
Thanks, you have rightly said it and I believe that Swachch Bharat and Swasth Bharat are supplementary to each other. In the health sector the nation has now moved ahead from the conventional approach. Earlier, every aspect regarding health used to be a responsibility of the Health Ministry alone. But now, all departments and ministries- be it the Sanitation Ministry or Ayush Ministry or Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Consumer Affairs Ministry or the Women & Child Welfare Ministry or even the State Governments- they are all working together for Swasth Bharat and stress is being laid on affordable health alongside preventive health. Preventive health care is the least costly and the easiest one as well. And, the more we become aware about preventive health care, the more beneficial will it be for the individuals, the family and the society. The first necessity for a healthy life is cleanliness. All of us took up the responsibility and the result is that in the last four years or so, sanitation coverage has almost doubled and risen to around 80 percent. Also, extensive work is going on to set up Health Wellness Centres across the country. Yoga has attained worldwide recognition as a measure of preventive health care. Yoga is a guarantee of both fitness and wellness. It is the result of our concerted efforts and commitment that Yoga has now become a mass movement and reached every house. Less than a hundred days are now left for the International Yoga Day on 21st June. On the previous three International Yoga Days, people in our country and people all over the world participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. This time too, we need to ensure that we do yoga ourselves and motivate our family, friends and all others from now itself to do yoga. Yoga has to be made popular among the youth, the senior citizens, men and women from all age groups through interesting ways. Usually, the country’s Television and electronic media do a variety of programmes on Yoga the whole year. Can we, beginning now, till the Yoga Day, devise a campaign to spread awareness on Yoga?
My dear countrymen, I am not a Yoga teacher. But yes, I surely am a Yoga practitioner and yet some people, through their creativity, have made me a Yoga teacher as well and 3-D animated videos of my yoga practice sessions have been prepared. I will share these videos with you so that we may do aasans and pranayam together. Efforts are being extensively undertaken to make health care accessible and affordable, make it easily accessible and affordable for the common man. Presently, more than three thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened across the country and more than eight hundred medicines are being made available there at an affordable price. More such centres are being opened. I appeal to the listeners of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ to provide this information about Jan Anshadhi Kendras to the needy ones – it will cut their expense on medicines. This will be a big help to them. The cost of heart stent for heart patients has been reduced to 85%. Knee implants cost has also been regulated and reduced by 50% to 70%. Under ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana ‘, the Government of India and insurance companies will jointly provide 5 lakh repees for treatment to about 10 crore families or say 50 crore citizens per year. In the present 479 medical colleges, MBBS seats have been increased to about 68 thousand. New AIIMS are being opened in various states with a view to providing better treatment and health facilities to people across the country. One new medical college will be set up for every three districts. A target has been fixed to make the country TB-free by 2025. This is an enormous task. Your cooperation is needed to create public awareness. All of us will need to make united efforts to become TB-free.
My dear countrymen, April 14 is the birth anniversary of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Years ago, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar spoke of India’s industrialization. According to him the industry was an effective medium by which jobs could be made available to the poorest of the poor and the poorer. Today, the campaign of Make in India is progressing successfully in consonance with Dr. Ambedkarji’s dream of India as an industrial super power-that vision of his has become our inspiration today.
Today India has emerged as a bright spot in the global economy and today the highest foreign direct investment or FDI in the world, is flowing to India. The whole world is looking at India as a hub for investment innovation and development. That the development of industries could only be possible in the cities, was the kernel of the idea of Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar and that was the reason he banked upon urbanization of India. In continuance with his vision, smart city mission and urban mission were kick-started in the country so that all kinds of amenities whether good roads, water supply, health facilities, Education or digital connectivity are available in the big cities and small towns of the country.Baba Saheb had strong faith in self-reliance. He did not want anybody to languish in poverty forever. He also believed that poverty cannot be ameliorated by mere distribution of capital among the impoverished. Today our monetary policy, Start Up India, Stand Up India initiative have become seedbed for our young innovators and young entrepreneurs. In the 30s and 40s when only roads and railways were being talked about in India, Baba Saheb Ambedkar mentioned about ports and waterways. It was Dr. Baba Saheb who envisaged water power as ‘nation power’. He stressed the utilization of water for the development of the nation The genesis of different river valley authorities, different water related commissions – all these were possible due to the vision of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Today there are landmark efforts, being embarked upon for waterways and ports in our country. New seaports are being constructed on a number of seaways of India and infrastructure is being strengthened at old ports.
In the era of 40s, while most of the discussions were centred around the Second World War, the looming Cold war and the partition –it was during those times Dr. Ambedkar had laid the foundation of Team India’s spirit in a way. He had talked about the importance of federalism, federal system and stressed on Center and states working together for the upliftment of the country. Today, we have adopted in all aspects of governance the mantra of co-operative federalism and going a step further, we have adopted competitive cooperative federalism but most importantly, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar is an inspiration for millions of people like me, who belong to backward classes.
He showed us that to succeed it is not necessary for the person to be born in an illustrious or rich family, but even those who are born to poor families in India can also dare to dream their dreams and realize those dreams by achieving success. And of course, this is exactly what happened as many people mocked Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, tried to pull him back and made every possible effort to ensure that the son of an impoverished and backward family would not progress in life, be something and succeed in life. But, the picture of New India is altogether different.
It is an India which is Ambedkar’s India, of the poor and the backward. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar from April 14 to May 5 ‘Gram-Swaraj Abhiyan,’ is being organized. Under the aegis of this campaign, separate programmes on village development, poverty amelioration and social justice will be held throughout India. I urge you all to be a part of this campaign.
My dear countrymen, a spectrum of many festivals would dawn upon us in the next few days- Bhagwan Mahavir Jayanti, Hanuman Jayanti, Easter and the Baisakhi. The day of Bhagwan Mahavir’s birth anniversary is a day to remember his sacrifice and penance.
The life and philosophy of Lord Mahavirji, the apostle of non-violence will inspire us all. I extend felicitations to all on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. The very mention of Easter reminds us of the inspirational preaching of Lord Jesus Christ which has always impressed on mankind the message of peace, harmony, justice, mercy and compassion. Vaisakhi will be celebrated in Punjab and in parts of western India in April; simultaneously, the twin festive connects of Jud -Sheetal and Satuwain in Bihar, and Poila Vaisakh in West Bengal will envelop everyone with joy and delight. All of these festivals are connected in one way or another to our fields and granaries, and through these festivals, we thank nature for the priceless gifts we receive as produce. Once again, my best wishes to you all on the occasion of the festivals coming our way. Many many thanks.

Effective Chronic Pain Management with Ayurvedic Therapies | Jeeva Clinic Kochi
Discover holistic treatments for chronic pain at Jeeva Clinic Kochi, featuring detoxification, rejuvenation therapies, and Ayurvedic medicines.
Chronic pain can significantly impact one's quality of life, often leading to frustration and decreased mobility. While conventional treatments focus on symptom management, Ayurveda offers holistic approaches that address the root cause of pain. At Jeeva Clinic in Kochi, we specialize in providing comprehensive chronic pain management solutions through a combination of detoxification, rejuvenation therapies, and specialized Ayurvedic medicines.
Understanding Chronic Pain Chronic pain is characterized by persistent discomfort that lasts for weeks, months, or even years. It can stem from various underlying conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, or injuries. Unlike acute pain, which serves as a warning signal for tissue damage, chronic pain persists beyond the normal healing period and often becomes a condition in itself.
Ayurvedic Approach to Chronic Pain Management Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a holistic approach to chronic pain management by restoring the balance of mind, body, and spirit. Our treatments at Jeeva Clinic focus on detoxification and rejuvenation therapies to eliminate toxins, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being. Here are some key therapies we utilize:
Abhyangam (Ayurvedic Massage): A therapeutic massage using warm herbal oils to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.
Elakizhi (Herbal Bundle Massage): Herbal poultices containing medicated leaves and oils are applied to the body to relieve pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Pizhichil (Oil Bath Treatment): Warm medicated oils are poured over the body in a rhythmic manner, providing deep relaxation and alleviating musculoskeletal pain.
Njavara Kizhi (Rice Bolus Massage): Boluses containing cooked Navara rice and medicinal herbs are used to massage the body, nourishing the tissues and reducing pain.
Panchakarma: A detoxification and purification therapy that involves five cleansing procedures to eliminate toxins and restore balance.
Specialized Ayurvedic Medicines In addition to therapy sessions, our Ayurvedic physicians prescribe specialized herbal formulations to manage chronic pain effectively. These medicines target the root cause of pain, reduce inflammation, and improve joint mobility. Some common Ayurvedic remedies for chronic pain include:
Uzhichil Therapy Lepam Procedures Herbal Formulations for Knee, Back, and Neck Pain Psoriasis and Eczema Care Weight Management Programs Asthma and Allergy Treatments Hair and Scalp Care Conclusion Chronic pain management requires a holistic approach that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of pain. At Jeeva Clinic Kochi, our team of experienced Ayurvedic practitioners specializes in providing personalized treatments for chronic pain using traditional therapies and herbal medicines. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and embark on your journey towards long-lasting relief and well-being.
