It's been about a bajillion years since I drew Sonic art with real enthusiasm and not just passing nostalgia. The upcoming movie looks absolutely awful and I'm just going to pretend that doesn't exist unless it surprises me, but the comics by IDW are so freakin' cute! I'll stick with that. Admittedly, the comic books were always my jam. I only ever played Sonic 2 on the Game Gear (still have it, and the Game Gear still turns on, even), so I wasn't big into the games themselves, but I absolutely loved the SatAM TV show when I was in elementary school, and then the Archie comics run for my teenage years. Now that IDW's picked it up and rebooted it, I'm getting back into it. Whisper the Wolf and Tangle the Lemur are probably my favorites at this early point. And Tim's made noises about making me a Whisper cosplay someday...? That'll be interesting all right. I told him only if he dresses up as Dr. Starline. You can catch the step-by-step process of making this piece if you're part of my Patreon

Not even a category 5 hurricane can stop fans from getting their geek on.
Fans, sponsors, exhibitors and retailers from across the region eagerly await the next-level entertainment the event has been delivering for the past 15 years
You’ve probably read the headlines: Back in September of last year, the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico was hit by two major hurricanes, Irma and Maria. The latter wreaked unprecedented havoc, causing major damage to infrastructure and a countrywide power outage. However, the storms brought to light Puerto Rico’s resiliency, and as the Island continues to rebuild and recover, one thing is clear: Entertainment and all things geek are alive and well in paradise.
Proof of this is Puerto Rico Comic Con. Producers of the event, now in its 16th year, made clear that the show must go on and confirmed that this year’s con will proceed as planned. Even with the challenges facing the island, it is clear that quality entertainment is badly needed in Puerto Rico. In conversation with Ricardo Carrion, executive producer of the event, he noted that, “All of us have been impacted by the storm, no doubt; but we all have the responsibility to get back up and move forward. Now, more than ever, entertainment is needed to help accelerate the normalization process in our lives.”
And people seem agree. Fans have been quickly snapping up tickets since they went on sale last November. That, along with the number of big-name sponsors supporting the event, is a clear sign that the public is eager to enjoy this type of event once again as a means to leave behind, even for a little while, what has become the new rhythm of life. Judging from preliminary sales numbers, Puerto Rico Comic Con could very well be the first multitudinous event to be held on the Island since the wrath of the storms.
In addition to the production team’s commitment to keeping the entertainment alive, Puerto Rico Comic Con also has a commitment to local independent artists, as the event is an important forum through which the market supports local content creators, including illustrators, writers, storytellers and others.
With everything set for May 18-20, 2018 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, this year’s Puerto Rico Comic Con will once again feature the best in all things pop culture, including local artists, comics, television, videogames, movies, anime, cosplay, collectibles, memorabilia and more.
Confirmed entertainment industry professionals that will be onsite to engage with fans: actor John Barrowman (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Torchwood, Dr. Who), actor Juliana Harkavy (Arrow, The Walking Dead, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash), actor Casey Cott (Riverdale), comic book creators Jim Starlin and Gail Simone, and more to be announced soon. As always, the event program includes myriad workshops, Q&A sessions, and special presentations.

Past special guests of Puerto Rico Comic Con have included: actor Lana Parrilla (Once Upon a Time); actor David Ramsey (Arrow, Dexter); actor Jason Momoa (Justice League, Game of Thrones); comic book legends Greg Capullo (Spawn, Batman) and John Romita Jr. (Kick-Ass, Uncanny X-Men, The Amazing Spider-Man); voice actor Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Origins); voice actor Tara Strong (Batman: The Killing Joke, Final Fantasy X) and many more.
Since 2002, Puerto Rico Comic Con has stood out as the main and most important entertainment event in the region. Each year tens of thousands of fans of all ages show up in their favorite cosplay to enjoy the best of the entertainment world, and they come from far and wide, with many descending on the island from the U.S. and Latin America.
For more information, follow @PRComicCon on all social media platforms and/or visit the website at www.prcomiccon.com.
Puerto Rico Comic Con defies all challenges and confirms its 2018 show is a go! Not even a category 5 hurricane can stop fans from getting their geek on. Fans, sponsors, exhibitors and retailers from across the region eagerly await the next-level entertainment the event has been delivering for the past 15 years…
