We Truly Live Together

While any pet has an effect on our life, of very few pets can it be said that we truly live together. Most of the animals you could bring into your home, whether cats, birds, turtles, or fish, do pretty much the same thing much of the time whether you are there or not, and you do pretty much the same thing whether they are there or not. This is not the case with dogs. Our presence matters to them, and theirs to us.

ACTRESS KRISTIN DAVIS played Charlotte on the television show Sex and the City. One Charlotte story line involved her completely falling for an acquaintance’s dog. Charlotte ultimately wound up with the dog, whom she named Elizabeth Taylor.

After the series ended, Davis starred in the movie The Shaggy Dog, in which her character’s husband finds himself turning into a dog. People assume that in real life Davis is similar to the characters she plays—a sweet and good-natured person who loves dogs.

And conveniently, in real life, Davis does love dogs.

In fact, in addition to her own dog she is providing a home for four foster dogs from her local animal shelter. But even in caring for shelter dogs, Davis can’t get away from her work: the shelter told her the dogs were named Charlotte, Mr. Big, Samantha, and Stanford, all character names from her show.

Working and living with dogs affects her entire schedule and approach to her day. Davis appreciates many things about dogs, but one of the things she loves the most about them is their sincerity. “About the only genuine reaction you can count on in Hollywood is from your dog,” she says.
