Lore 093: Balaban the Sheppard Balaban Karanci was a young boy when he lost his parents. Like all young boys who lose their parents at a young age, he idolized them. He still has the occasional nightmare about that long ago night... His brother, Efe, had a panicked conversation with their father. It was then that Efe came to Balaban's room and forcefully removed him. Little Balaban fought, but Efe was bigger and stronger. Outside he was forced toward a loaded cart, as a man in a dark cloak talked to Balaban and Efe's father, Korkmaz. Efe and Balaban were placed on the cart by another man as his mother watched weeping, telling them goodbye, and pleading Efe to take good care of Balaban. Korkmaz gave the cloaked man a large package. The last Balaban saw was the glint of steel from beneath the cloak as the man and Korkmaz shook hands. This would be the last time he saw them. The men didn't talk much, and Efe often told Balaban to sit down, hide, or be quiet throughout the journey. They were stopped a few times by bandits and encroaching creatures. Balaban enjoyed watching their captors fight with the bandits, though he wasn't sure whom he wanted to win. But the man in the cloak always won. He wished for strength. Strength like the cloaked man, whom called himself Tagon. It was the 5th night when Balaban asked Tagon why he was so good at killing bandits. "To save little boys like you. What you mean is how. How am I so good? And that's to save little boys like me." Tagon laughed. Balaban began to talk to Tagon each night, listening to his stories. Efe remained cold. Often Tagon would look at Efe, then grow silent with ominous brooding, and it was no longer fun for Balaban. Lore 091: Coal Coal is a seasoned, inquisitive and practical human ranger with shoulder length salt and pepper dreads, and ever alert piercing green eyes. He's often seen with a cigar hanging from his mouth. Coal, birthname Richard, had a relatively normal life growing up, often playing in the grasslands and in the forest near his home town of Drest. That all changed the day he witnessed his newly born cousin get taken by Vakorian soldiers. Richard was left disgruntled and ill-content with the sudden sharp reality of their life, one that was at the mercy of the Vakorian empire. His ignorance and bliss broken, he left without a word to anyone. He adopted the moniker of "Coal" and offered his skills to a like minded group, who worked tirelessly in the shadows to hide or save children. Ten years passed and the group had become a persistent thorn in the side of the empire of Vakor. One night, having taken a longer route to avoid a Vakorian patrol, Coal arrived at the group's rendezvous point... only to discover everyone massacred. Lore 090: Xanatos Xanatos is a silly young fighter with a high pitched voice. He is a wood elven monk recognized as one of the monastery's greatest fighters in the way of the drunken fist. Perhaps due to his talent at such a young age, Xanatos is extraordinarily confident in his own skill, and likes to tell tales of himself being the best monk. As great a fighter as he is, he is rash and very young patticularly in the scope of an elf's life; being just in his late 20's. In fact, not many have even heard of him, though he is determined to change that. When he isn't training in his drunken fist style, and telling tales of himself, Xanatos is a calm person, but also quite oblivious and gullible. Luckily, he has the guidance of intelligent people around him. A few years into his training by Coven, Xanatos had encountered a spirit whilst meditating. This haunted spirit, named Gavrill, was a soldier of a war that occurred between two powerful nations, and he had been on the losing side. Gavrill wished to have something accomplished so that he could move on peacefully, but he hadn't told Xanatos what that was. Because Xanatos communicated to Gavrill whilst meditating, and spoke out loud to Gavrill this was seen as a grave action to the monks, and it cost Xanatos his time at the monastery. Feeling bad for the monk, Gavrill implored him to seek out a man named Coal, explaining that Coal would be the key to getting him back into the monastery. Lore 086: Sazaxiss Sazaxiss is a Yuan-ti Pureblood Hexblade Warlock/Fighter of average build and appears to be a pale human at first glance. When his features are examined, particularly as he speaks, his snake-like eyes become apparent, and his sharp nose, tongue, and chin become pronounced. All his life, he trained to be a strong warrior. His people served Ungoth, and are summoned to battle when they are needed. One day during his training, a dark voice spoke to him, and when he asked who it was, it answered "Hexsssblade", and a black glaive appeared in his hands. It instructed him to leave his home of The Rotted Isle and seek Murgax for the coming war. Feeling the power of this patron, he obeyed as he wanted to be as strong as possible. He joined Murgax's army and fought all the way to the throne of Renathor. Once Murgax was resurrected, he betrayed his generals, and struck down Sazaxiss, who lost what he thought was his purpose in life. While unconscious, he was bathed in white light as Goddess Rena spoke to him, revealing herself to have been his patron all along. Upon resurrection and the defeat of Murgax, Saz sought isolation and answers for his purpose in life. Lore 084: Myathar the Knight Commander (read more)... The daughter of a knight, Mya grew up working hard on her father's horse farm. After his death, she had wanted to carry on his legacy and so left the farm to become a knight herself. More then a mere knight, she managed to claim ranks quickly and became a commanding officer. Mya is a natural born leader who is easy going but extremely fearsome when backed into a corner. She is stern and hard working, but also quick to smile and laugh. Mya is upfront, caring, truthful and above all honorable. She loves animals and has a small black cat that adventures with her. She seldom wears heavy armor unless she has to and prefers leather or light armor. Her favored weapons are a sword and long bow. She is also a summoner* and often pairs her magic with her sword fighting. Commissioned over the holidays by a follower, Emily, of her and her partner's characters. Lore 083: Aura, the Stardust Genasi (read more)... Aura is a character created and played by alternative model and D&D enthusiast @lua.stardust . She joined the Pink City DnD crew (pinkcitytwitch - Twitch) on a recent episode of their long running campaign. Aura is an earth genasi sorceress who has grey earthly toned skin, moldavite green hair, and colorful gemstone freckles that reflect colorful light beneath the sun. Her hometown and family were constantly terrorized by a hobgoblin overlord named Pistachio. Her sister had stood up to him and got killed for it which caused her brother Citrine to recklessly go after him. He went missing and so Aura went searching for him and discovered he was taken hostage near the First Fortress. The players ran into her and helped her cross the border, and they found that Pistachio had taken over the fortress as the new boss (it had been overrun by Ungumod people since the war). Aura got her revenge, freed her brother Citrine who was captured here, and went home all thanks to the help of our heroes! Lore 081: Chum-Chum (read more...) If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I do a ton of the artwork for @pinkcity.ca 's DnD charity campaigns. One of my latest (and greatest) works has been the exuberant Luxodon, Chum-Chum. He's the former bagpiper of Marsh's (the lizard bard played by @baegedcosplays) band, Marsh & the Mallows and when the band parted ways he started his solo act: Chum Chum's Pipes of Fun. Along with his own act, he's also opened for another talented musician, the tabaxi Farandole, who helped the party out a many episodes back in Season 2 (played by the talented real life bard, @brigitfiddle ). Lore 077: Blinky (read more...) Blinky is a female Arasi (homebrew Tabaxi) warlock, who is very protective of her brother Brava (lore 76). While he is hyper focused on his studies, she is focused on keeping him safe. Like her brother, she also has deep black fur, albeit less groomed than he. In fact she looks quite wild, though she is quite intelligent. She is reserved, watchful and ever protective of her brother. Blinky has a long white streak amidst her flowing long hair, which she keeps tied. Despite her watchfulness, she actually has a pretty bad sense of direction, and they often have to resort to magic to find their way around unfamiliar terrain. Despite this, she is extremely alert to her surroundings, and of everything that moves. She does have an innate fear of snakes, and likewise does not like Yuanti. Blinky is a character commissioned by @d_creation who happens to be a talented woodworker and dicemaker.
