Countdown Day 1: Digimental switch up!

So for my first piece for @digimon02countdown I wanted to do something about some of the untapped potential for the digimentals/eggs. I love the fact that mixing and matching the eggs can produce completely different digimon and I think it's a shame that it wasn't explored more in the series. I was originally going to do the lineup from the Valentine's audio drama; but I thought highlighting some of my favourite unseen combinations would be more fun! So here's another scenario where everyone had to switch up their digimentals!Since it might not be apparent who is who (from viewer's left-to-right) :

Veemon + Light = Gargoylemon

Armadillomon + Hope = Sheepmon

Hawkmon + Knowledge = Flybeemon

Patamon + Sincerity = Ponchomon

Gatomon + Kindness = Oppossummon

Wormmon + Courage = Shadramon

question about digimon crests

i believe everyone knows about the original Adventures kids crests, all pointing to a virtue the kids had for some reason or another. very good for tattoos, too.

the original ones, the cutest symbols, etc.

thing is, I don't know from where they came. the easiest option would be that the digimon team created them and well I don't believe so? theres a 1999 anime series called Cyber Team In Akihabara where its hakase used this tie

clearly the Knowledge symbol

both series were transmitted by different studies so directives shouldnt match.

(man i like the art of cyber team in akihabara so much yes)

so i want to know here if someone knows from where they came? do they have other meanings?

Welcome to Tumblr!

If you're on desktop there is a search bar in the top left, if you're on mobile the search is somewhere in the bar at the bottom of the screen (as I'm writing this that's where it is, at least. Sometimes it moves around with updates)

If you're searching the #digimon tag, for example, you can toggle between top posts (those that have had lots of interaction recently) and latest posts (a more chronological feed)

For this blog I follow our URL (#digimentals) as well as a bunch of creator tags, #digigifs (used by those who make gifs / gifsets) #digisafe (for SFW artwork, graphics, and writing) #digigraphic (for icons, resources, edits etc) people might also use #digimonedit for similar posts, too.

I also keep an eye on the #digimon adventure, #digimon tamers, #digimon frontier, #デジモン tags as these are fairly easy to track.

There's no real consistent way people tag character names so if you're looking for Taichi fanart it's worth checking the #taichi yagami, #yagami taichi & the #tai kamiya tags!

I decided to design and draw armour digivolutions for the original Adventure digimon! Most of these took inspiration from the main Adventure 02 armours (mainly in that they're the original rookie's body stretched to fit the armour, as well as the general inspirations from each), but they do have their own inspirations! I've listed my thought processes below

Nykusmon (agumon armour) is inspired by various carnivorous dinosaurs, particularly velociraptors, making a faster alternative to the more bulky Greymon. The name comes from Nykus, meaning claw, a word that's used commonly in dinosaur names (thanks @frippp for name help!)

Guisemon (gabumon armour) is mostly based on replacing gabumon's pelt with armour, with a more Raidramon-like stance. I attempted to fold in some Garurumon bits, but idk if that's clear. The name comes from disguise, unsurprisingly.

Irismon (biyomon armour) is inspired by Biyomon's want to fly and become Birdramon, so I turned the armour into a glider and extended its leg ring into a pair of leg guards. I also decided to make the crest on the headpiece red like the original Crest of Love instead of the purple on the egg. The name comes from Iris, the greek goddess of rainbows and a messenger goddess, and keeping up the 'deity' theme the love armours seem to have.

Kusanagimon (palmon armour) doesn't really have a deep inspiration, I took mostly armour parts from Shurimon and also gave it a blade because swords are cool, and I used the shurikens as replacements for palmon's flower, as well as giving its tail some decoration that I felt it needed. The name comes from Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the legendary sword.

Polkamon (tentomon armour) takes a lot of inspiration from Digmon, but I did turn its eyes into night vision goggles which would be very useful underground. The name comes from polkadots, which I find very funny that this big bulky 'mon with drills for spots is named for something cute.

Nyormon (gomamon armour) is my favourite, based on a viking longship. I turned the arrow markings on the egg and submarimon into the shields normally depicted on longships, and attempted to turn the front legs into oars. It's named for Njörðr, the norse god associated with the sea and seafaring.
