So cold
a little piece about the frozen tundra of Empress Du Lion. Enjoy!
She braced her arms across her chest the cold seeping into every pore as she tried to focus on the missive before her. Cullen had written to inform her of his status as she’d requested before she’d left. He’d need to update her as much as possible. “Nothing new to report. Same aches and pains, same chills as before. Improvement on mood since your last letter. Hope to see you soon. Cullen.”
It was enough. She’d practically begged him to tend to himself. Like a proper human being. Not some second thought after the evening was done. No he needed to eat, shave, wash, and relax as best as he could. She knew he played chess with Leliana while she was away and she encouraged their playful banter.
Shivering again she re-inked the quill for the third time hoping this time it wouldn’t freeze mid sentence. “Cleared out the nest of red lyrium. Grotesque things were being done here no thanks to the mayor. Have her brought in to face the Inquisition. We shall be returning within the week. I’ll want a hot bath and some quality time once I return. Sincerely, Diana Trevelyan.” Sealing her letter she shivered again against the constant cold. Even with her warmest attire the cold of the place seemed to slice straight through her. Handing the letter to the raven carrier she uttered a single word and off it went.
She was certain it was pleased to be leaving the frozen wasteland. As was she. “Let’s get moving. The sooner we leave here the best.”
“Ay.” Varric snorted before he was half way off in the distance, clearly no fan of the icy winter himself.

bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old and left on bad terms with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before luca has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil so he won't be a threat to anybody, and won't have to further deal with his pain. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

I had such a hard time finishing it and when I did, I wasn't happy with the result so I tricked myself into forgetting I ever did finish it. Then I saw that WIP fest here and wondered if I had some unfinished OL fics I could post. Found this fic and realized it was actually finished lol
So now I'm resurrecting this half-dead fic in the spirit of Halloween by my undying love for Tom Byrd. <3
