Why I Love Descendants
It’s such an amazing franchise. The world is so interesting and expansive. Conflicts are deep and intense. It isn’t all black and white. The characters are so three-dimensional and have personalities, dreams, and destinies all their own. The friendship between them all is so palpable, I can feel the love. The themes explored are rich and give powerful messages. At its heart, this story is about four kids who come from a broken place, are broken themselves, and learn to be better and rise up to the point they’re able to help other kids like them. That is such a beautiful and important message and I hope it’s analogous to my own life.
The ships are incredible and full of love. Jarlos is so sweet, they adore one another, and I love that the two shy, mousy characters found comfort in each other. Devie is amazing, Doug loves Evie so much and will follow her wherever she goes. Evie loves him in return and will stay by his side, no matter what. And Bal is so, so extraordinary. Such a different pair, but they are perfect for each other. They’ve had ups and downs but they made it through, and now they’ll live happily together, forever.
I love the Core Four for their chosen family (what I call found family, seems like a more accurate term), their friendships, and their development. They’re all so amazing in their own ways, and even better togethier.
(Including Ben cause I want to) Ben growing into such a wonderful king, even if he struggles sometimes. He’s so kind to everyone and wants everyone to be the best they can be. He found is own way to balance being king and being himself. I think we should all strive to be more like him.
Jay was a thief who only cared about himself and what he could get. He learned how a team worked and became someone who is very thoughtful of his friends.
Carlos was constantly bullied and was his mother’s slave. He grew more confident, and learned to stand up for himself. He knows who his friends are and will stand by them through anything.
Evie was taught to only care about her appearance, that that was the only part of her that had value. But she learned the things she did mattered more and she doesn’t need a prince to make her happy. She has her friends, her work, her boyfriend, her wonderful home, and helping the Isle kids. She’s so compassionate, and is on her way to big things and I hope she gets there.
And Mal. The one who was supposed to be the evilest of them all, but ended up finding love and not wanting to let go. Having wrapped her whole identity around being bad, she definitely struggled to figure out how to be good. But with Ben and her friends’s help, she was able to learn and allow herself what she wanted. I love that she became queen through good instead of evil, and did it for love, not power. I know she’s going to do great things, and I love her.
Descendants is my favorite franchise. It’s the first one I’ve really fallen in love with. I kinda just wanted to write a little thing attempting to express my feelings and how I see (some of) the characters (and let me add that I don’t hate/dislike any of the characters). Descendants is super important to me and I hope I love it like this for a long time 💜

Omg I love Lilo, he's so cute! Do you have anything else about him atm?

he just graduated from college- he's a marine biologist! though he's having a hard time getting his footing in town, lila's been helping him try to find a job, as well as lending him the couch to sleep on.
Lilo is oblivious. He knows nothing about what goes on in the town, and is way too trusting!
Speaking of that, on his first night in town, he got mugged by someone named Devie. That'll come into play later! :3
Though, he escaped with near to no injuries and now he spends most of the day searching for a job or helping his big sister with his nephew- Skid LOVES when he and lilo go out to fish or to get icecream.

Thinking about descendants and Doug and evie’s relationship and the bevie fandom I wanted to put my take on it. The reason why I personally don’t ship bevie but I do like the ship is because I like the idea of Doug but different if that makes sense.
Doug is the nerdy boy with glasses, evie would considerably be the popular girl. Descendants did a good job not using the “nerd to hot even though he was always hot he just got a different haircut and took off his glasses trope”. They made evie a beautiful considerably popular girl love Doug without him ever changing his looks. Which shows looks don’t matter to her and she loves him for him. She also defies all her mom’s expectations and rules by dating her enemies son whose also not a prince. Now Doug has his issues and that’s why I don’t ship them really either, but just a reason I don’t ship bevie all too much as well despite it being adorable.
My personal headcanon is that she is with an intellectual that is not a royal. More like a poet type, he’s into dark academia really intelligent in lots of stuff. I just like that for her. I’ll be making a headcanon and oc for him soon.

Descendants Weddings:
Bal: Huge wedding
I doubt Mal would WANT a really big wedding but with Ben being the king of Auradon there probably wasn't much of a choice in the matter.
Devie: Medium/Regular sized wedding
Originally Evie would probably have wanted a HUMONGOUS wedding but after getting with Doug, who I doubt would want a really big wedding, she started to change her mind slightly so they decided to have a bit of a smaller wedding, but not too small - it's still Evie after all.
Jarlos: Small wedding
I just think they would be really uncomfortable with a big wedding.
Jonnie: They would get eloped (or have a REALLY small wedding)
All they need is each other, a few close friends and family. And I doubt either of them have the patience for wedding planning.

Devie (Doug/Evie) is a canon ship. Doug is in love with Evie the moment he meets her, and throughout the first movie Evie learns that she doesn’t need a prince, and Doug is enough. She also learns that it is true love in D3 by saving Doug from sleep with “One Kiss”. Overall, a cute, healthy relationship.
Jarlos (Jane/Carlos) is also a canon ship. These two perfectly embody the awkward, highschool sweethearts trope. I mean, Carlos made up the ship name for us! While their relationship is full of awkward moments, they’re learning together how to love, and what a relationship is really like.
