I am in a relationship with my local library. That is, I take out books regularly and give her the utmost respect and appreciation, and in turn, she sometimes extends me overdue books …
(which happened today, am so grateful to have another 3-week loan of my current book… which I will reveal to you soon… stay with me here… which was technically due back today)
She also sometimes goes extra lengths to obtain books for me that she doesn’t have on hand, via inter-library loan. I love that about her too. It makes me feel so special.
Anyways, It all started at the end of 2016… I realized that  I needed to make some changes. I had been doing the same things over and over again and not getting the results that I desired with those same old actions. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. You know? I was ready to do things differently for 2017… which I spoke a little bit about another different aspect of this in my opening monolog video of my
I was ready to do things differently for 2017… which I spoke a little bit about another different aspect of this in my opening monolog video of my Patreon Page.
To that end, one big thing I decided to do, besides the thing I mention in the Patreon video, was to start reading regularly.
Specifically books that would help me change my perspective, expand my reality, grow my consciousness, help me be happier, teach me to market myself and my artwork more intelligently, and help me get even better at being an entrepreneur in business. I set the intention to read books that would support me to live my dream confidently and with joy.
I am now well into this year, book-wise, and am really excited to share the past 5   – or is it 6 now? – books with you what I’ve been reading, all of which have revealed to me unique gems, inspirations, learnings, and ideas that are beyond what I knew before I read them.
First up, the book I am currently reading (and just gratefully got renewed from the library) is The Power Is Within You by Louis Hay.
What I love about this book is that it’s loaded with powerful affirmations that I can write on my mirror and remind myself of every day to help re-program my mind to focus on the positive. Being positive is such a  powerful state and way to be, I’m sure you are well aware of this. It’s just that sometimes it’s easier said than done, so we need all the help we can get to
stay
in
the
positive
zone.
Reading positive inspirational books is one great way to do this. Another is writing quotes from that book on your mirror with a white board eraser pen. (Just use Windex with a paper towel to erase  and update the quotes).
On my mirror currently are affirmations from Louis’ book :
“I now release, with ease, all old negative beliefs”
” I am wealth, I am love, I am abundance.”
” Its comfortable for me to change, learn, and grow.”
“My pathway is now smooth”
“I am free of the past”
“Everything I need to know is revealed to me.”
” Everything I need comes to comes to me in perfect timing” (I’m really looing forward to that white, hybrid, 4 WD, Volvo, SUV showing up in my driveway :-). Actually, I printed out a picture of that vehicle and stuck it on my fridge, just so the universe is now super clear with this need of mine for that car!)
“I am willing to change and to grow”
I also got really inspired by the piece Louis wrote about fear. I wrote this excerpt out in my journal;
“Fear is rampant on the planet. You can see and hear about it in the news every day. Fear is the lack of trust in ourselves.  Because we don’t trust life. We don’t trust we are being taken care of on a higher level, so we feel we must control everything in the physical level. Obviously, we are going to feel fear because we can’t control everything in our lives. Trust is what we learn when we want to overcome our fears.”
The third piece of huge value I got from The Power Is Within You was the chapter Louis wrote about loving yourself as well as the chapter about connecting with and tending to your inner child.
I went to the gym this morning and afterward, I walked up to the mirror, looked myself in the eyes, and said out loud to myself; “Well done Deb, you did it! Great job! I love and appreciate you.”
There are also some really powerful questions from those two chapters that I want to share with you here that I found very profound:
If I absolutely adored myself, what would I do for and with myself today?
How can I totally, utterly, and completely love myself today?
and finally,
How can I really be here now and show up for myself?
Thank you so much, dear Louise Hay, for this fabulous book that has helped teach me new ways of thinking and further me along my journey to live in joy, personal power, and confidence in myself.
Can’t wait to share with you some of the other books I’ve been reading and what I’ve been learning…

Toronto Art Show & Sale - Nov & Dec 2017

To celebrate the end of the year, we  are using the fundamental idea of crowdsourcing to bring together a  large and inclusive group show. No medium or work was rejected from this  show.
As an alternative space, Black Cat  Artspace doesn't have to answer to any particular set of aesthetics or  rules, and as a result has seen a wide variety of shows, in a wide  variety of mediums grace the walls over the past three and a half years.
The Salon of Inclusiveness, is a play and positive take on the Salon des Refusés:
"In 1863 two thirds of paintings  presented at the Paris Salon were refused, including the works of  Courbet, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissaro and Johan Jongkind. The works  which didn't align with the Emperor's traditional tastes we're upon  protest shown in another part of the palace as the "Salon des Refusés."  The critical attention served to legitimize the emerging avant-garde in  painting."
Near the beginning of each opening there  will be time for a friendly and informal critique where anyone showing  can explain their work and others will have a chance to offer a critique  or ask questions.

Dare to Dream!
Today's activity: making my wish list for the Opus Art Supplies 'Dare to Dream' draw for a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree! Fingers crossed!
Our local art store Opus Art Supplies has a  draw going on right now before Christmas for a $1,000 shopping spree. My daughter and I took some time this morning and made our own wish lists, here's mine, above. We are headed down now to the store to enter the draw. The competition is going on until Dec 24th so if you live in the Lower Mainland you can still enter too!
P. S. My inner child just LOVED doing this!

Midnight Mucking About In The Studio
I had a collector in the studio last week who was looking at buying one of the  paintings from my Fragments of Life Series, this one specifically:
Tumblr media
(Which I am realizing as I write this is not shown on my web site, which sorely needs updating... another time)
Anyways, she did not purchase this one, she chose another one, so it stayed behind in the studio and I got super inspired and was thinking I might frame it and put it in my house because I started re-falling in love with the painting.
(But hey, if you are reading this and you are falling in love with it too, you can purchase it.. I will let it go. Original is $1200 and right NOW until the end of the month it's 50% off)
That said, my ultimate litmus test for a great painting - MY OPINION - is that is inspires me to paint. So, with one piece of Arches 23" x 30"  300 pound paper left in the studio, (am awaiting art store boxing day sales to purchase more), I started playing around inspired by this painting that I did back in 2013.
The  painting shown at the very top of this blog IS IN PROCESS, aka it's not complete! I used: Mixed Media  including  acrylics, ink, water soluble oil sticks, acrylics, pencil on Paper.
Stay tuned for completed piece, who knows when!

Current Inspiration at My Breakfast Table...
Currently lying open at my kitchen table is a copy of The Tae Te Ching. I have the copy translated by Jonathan Star, don't know if that is "the best copy" but out of the many to choose from years back at the book store, it was the one that came home with me.
Truth be told, I was reading the Million Little Pieces book and that is where I heard of the Tao and got inspired to read it myself. You know, that book whose author was trashed on Oprah for embellishing what was supposed to be a true story. James somebody. Can't remember his last name, but the book was amazing. Great read for sure.
Note: I haven't read the entire book cover to cover. I just un-spiritually peruse through it when I am eating!
That said, just before December I painted a whole bunch of these beautiful Little Gems that were inspired by ink and clear glossy turquoise liquid paint in polymer medium and I promised my newsletter subscribers that I'd share them with you before Christmas.
The trick was coming up with names for them. So there I was with a pile of paintings along with the good old Tao Te Ching open on my kitchen table and I started pulling out lines that really spoke to me. Yup, this is my idea of  good time. I kept looking at each painting and figuring out if the name would work.
Honestly, lately, I'm at this point where painting is creating, and naming paintings is creating, and sharing them on social media is creating, and running my business is creating... Its all fun. I feel just so blessed to be doing this.
So this latest one is called  ‘This Ancient Path’  and the Print installation shown above is 30" x 40"  (c) Deb Chaney 2017 but the original is 9" x 12" on paper and available for your collection at the date of this post [email protected] $150.

I'm hoping to post a few more before Christmas.
Meanwhile, Thank you for your love and support, Deb

Inspiration is Everywhere
Getting the studio ready for the painting and creativity support group this morning, and look, even the windows are inspiring! Love the patterning on the windows. Each window could be an abstract painting!
