Stolen Artwork
Feb 20 at 10:50pmIn 2009, I created this series of collage paintings called 'Patchwork Paper'. This painting shown above is Patchwork Paper viii.
Each painting in this series of seven was created using 23" x 30"  300 pound coldpress Arches watercolor paper and made by cutting and tearing up pieces of stained papers (tissue paper, rice papers, other decorative papers) which I had decorated using home-made stamps, and stained using inks and watered down acrylics.
They took hours to create and were my therapy during a difficult time of transition in my life. I had the series of seven paintings photographed, and then all but two of them disappeared.
In my entire career I have created a lot of artwork and meticulously had the work documented, as I did for this series (So Grateful!), however, I never saw these paintings again in 2009 and wonder what happened to them.
Were they stolen? I hope wherever they are they are safe and being enjoyed. If you have the paintings and you are reading this, keep in mind they need to be framed behind glass to preserve the paper! Or, better yet, please do the right thing return them.
If you LOVE this beautiful paintings as I do, you are in luck as they are ALL available on Saatchi Online Gallery for prints: https://www.saatchiart.com/art-collection/Collage/Patchwork-Paper/499285/70333/view .

Today's Studio Visitor
It was a delight to have Lucca Hallex in the studio today to look at paintings, connect, and share some tea and treats.
Lucca is the owner of http://powersourcerer.com/ and a gifted and heart felt intuitive psychic, business mentor, and coach. I have now had two readings with her and highly recommend her if you are looking for guidance. She comes from her heart and has a special gift to see the good in others and lets us know it! Something we can all use more of!

Just Sold. Fragments of Life # 9 Mixed Media Painting on Paper.
Just Sold. Fragments of Life #9 is 23" x 30” Acrylics, Ink, Mixed Media, Collage, Spray Paint on 300 pound Arches cold press paper. I don't have prints available at the time of this post, however, I have a wonderful assistant working for me each week and will ask her to upload this high resolution image to my Saatchi Online Gallery so that if you love this painting as much as we do, you can purchase your own!
That said, if you are an interior designer, set designer or stager and reading this and you are thinking 'OMG this is the perfect image for an installation I'm doing, I would LOVE a print now" (COOL, I love hearing this, Thank You!) You can connect with Melissa Manser at Hamelton Fine Art Services in Vancouver [email protected] and she can help you!
Now here's something new I've never done before... So Keep on eye on this one!  The new art collector  that just purchased this painting has asked that I gently and lovingly collage in some images of her dear beautiful mother and some memorabilia of her mother's years teaching  as well as some gorgeous passport stamps of trips they took together. What a beautiful way to remember a loved one! I have never been asked to do this before and am honored! Stay tuned for the paintings' final transformation!

Top 5 Don't When Applying for Arts Grants/Funding
Just attended an informative and lively discussion online via the
Arts Alliance
(based in Vancouver) about how to apply for grants and receive funding for artists. Thank you so much to the organizes & presenters, this was a great seminar and I had a few aha! moments that will make a big difference for my next grant writing adventure.
Best part? The handout given at the end of the seminar:
Top 5 Ways to Annoy the Grant Officer
5. Don’t include your postal code so they have to look it up.
4 (Ask a whole bunch of questions in email and don’t include your phone number...)
3 (Ask the questions one at a time in back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth emails…) (and back and forth…)
2. Always discredit the jury members’ abilities as well as the successful artists.
1. Call them the night before the deadline to ask complicated questions about your application – or facebook-messenger them at 1:00 am!
LOL,
Deb

What's holding me steady as I get back from a week long retreat...
Just a little quick hello that I am back home from retreat and missing it already!
Its been a bit overwhelming coming back to 'regular' life; business tasks, emails (God bless autoresponders!), parenting, not to mention looking for a new room mate, and all the other responsibilities of  modern life!
I miss the forest, the quiet, and having a lot of time for introspection. I miss the simplicity of being on retreat. I could easily take a week off every month.
That said, when I feel like I am spinning out of control, its been a bit of shock coming home, I have two solid practices that are helping me to hold steady and get grounded.
My first and number one go to tool is my meditation practice. Lately I have been chanting 'Nam Myoho Renge Kyo' which is the basis of SGI Buddhism. I just repeat those words over and over and honestly I feel wonderful afterwards. I also have a silent inner guided meditation I learned from classes at the Training In Power Academy. I find this inner quiet practice very nourishing and grounding.
My second sanctuary in the midst of modern day living is, of course, my studio! My daughter was gently asking me  yesterday if I was going to go paint. "Oh, no, I'm fine, I'm going to read a book... I'm just going to take a few things down to the studio..." A few hours later I have been happily  distracted by some new Fragments of Life paintings I have been playing with.  This happens a lot and I am so grateful for the magic and healing of creativity in my life!
[ Part of the distraction was because I've got some new collage materials of horses and maps of the Gulf Islands and this combined with gels and sand textures makes it very hard to leave the studio! Time disappears and I am back in my place of bliss!]
As a very sensitive person in this world, I classify  as an HSP (highly sensitive person), I find these two pillars in my life - meditation and painting - help me to cope with all the outside world frantickness (sp?), all the challenges and commitments, all that noise. They make life sweeter and help to hold me steady.
Namaste friends,
Love Deb

Changes for 2018
Dear Artists,
I want to thank each and every one of you for your connection last year in 2017, both in and out of the studio.
After much reflection and pondering, I have decided to close the Painting & Creativity Support Group.
A few of you have been in touch directly with me and would like to to  pursue private lessons that work for your own schedule, if that  resonates for you, please download the .pdf from the link below with  various package offerings that may work for you.
https://gallery.mailchimp.com/b78a4b953f58f04d0c14944fd/files/4e79cf0e-fc91-4771-ad5c-47bb79eefd22/PrivateLesson_Packages.pdf
This year, I will be offering 2 workshops; specifically in how to use  polymer mediums and acrylics to create encaustic (wax) effects. The  first workshop will run the third weekend in May (Friday, Saturday  Sunday 9-5) in my Coquitlam studio for 3 days. The second workshop is  being offered at the Pacific Northwest Art Institute 3 days, 9-5 day  each, on Whidbey Island, WA, USA. If either of these are of interest,  please let me know and I'll send you full registration information and  exact dates. [email protected]
If you are subscribed to the Painting & Creativity Support group here on  Patreon, please go ahead and change your subscription accordingly. If  you choose to continue to be a patron and support me as an artist, at  any amount, I thank you.
I wish you all much creativity, inspiration and forward movement in  supporting yourselves to do the things that bring you happiness this  year and beyond.
With love,   Deb

Dare to Dream!
Today's activity: making my wish list for the Opus Art Supplies 'Dare to Dream' draw for a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree! Fingers crossed!
Our local art store Opus Art Supplies has a  draw going on right now before Christmas for a $1,000 shopping spree. My daughter and I took some time this morning and made our own wish lists, here's mine, above. We are headed down now to the store to enter the draw. The competition is going on until Dec 24th so if you live in the Lower Mainland you can still enter too!
P. S. My inner child just LOVED doing this!
