#like every! single! one!#deathloop#fia helped convince charlie to cut out part of his brain for 2 but called him less of a person for that#alexis one of the scummiest characters convinced frank to join aeon possibly by lying to him#the entire aeon project arguably wouldnt exist without egor but hes treated like just this massive fucking loser#frank had some sort of romantic/intimate relationship with colt that colt doesnt remember#harriet is arguably the one fucking visionary that listens to Julianna#wenjie seems to loathe egor but hes (arguably) the closest thing she has to a peer which is probably part of why shes so pissed about it#2 bit loves charlie but charlie just sees him a just the AI he built#and lets not even BEGIN to unpack colt and Julianna

ive still never played deus ex and i feel like i should but i dont want to :P
#DOOM DOOM Eternal HL2 Halo Deathloop Dishonored Borderlands 1&2 and Black Mesa#if you can count dishonored. i try not to have to shoot in it :3 anything that gives me a stealth option i try to take it#you know what sucks is that they never added the level teleporting to DOOM 2016#so you can still end up having to repeat a whole level to get one secret you missed if youre a perfectionist like me#bioshock used to be on this list but its charm has worn off for me a little bit.

i just beat deathloop. really enjoyed it but now i feel empty
#spoilerish stuff in the tags so watch out#just my 2 cents on the way it ended#at this point i kinda wish games didn't leave endings quite as open as they tend to do#i want to see the payoff of my efforts and the consequences of my actions#like yeah an open ending means i can iMaGiNe it as anything i want#but i would like video game writers to actually finish the stories they write#arkane also tends to end their games very abruptly so i guess i shouldn't have expected a long ending cutscene or anything#but man it was over quick and left so many questions unanswered#loved the game didn't love the way it ended#if they fleshed it out a bit more it would've been fine#i guess i'm just tired of having to come up with my own theories about what happens next and how the characters react to what has happened#SURE WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT THOUGH#are writers so afraid of writing disappointing endings that they just don't write them at all 🤔#this turned into a rant oops#anyway loved the game ✌️#can't wait to never be able to play arkane games in the future bc they'll all be exclusives yay#deathloop

Video Games I Enjoy Playing / Have Enjoyed Playing, in no particular order:
This post ended up being a lot longer than I thought it was going to be initially. Games towards the top are in more recent memory while most games descending towards the bottom I haven't played in a bit, but with many exceptions that I don't care to point out.
People keep asking me what games I like, so I decided to make a relatively cohesive list of everything I have played at one point and also developed positive memories with it, be they from gameplay or the people I got to talk to while playing.
I have highlighted games that I would consider my "Favorites" in orange, because orange is one of my favorite colors. any games you're interested in thisyear?
Actually quite a lot, which is different than most years. In no particular order:
2023 Confirmed
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2. I liked the original. It was simple but fun. I'm hoping they have evolved the formula a bit from that point.
Darkest Dungeon 2. I have a lot of issues with the game changing directions into an FTL-ish game. But it could be good, regardless of my feelings on the genre shift.
Starfield. Bethesda is still on my radar but they're no longer a "Must buy" company after Fallout 4 and Fallout76. The fact that they're STILL using the CreationEngine gives me worry, but I'm still waiting to see how it turns out.
Hogwarts Legacy. It's a immersive RPG with character customization. That's going to always catch my attention.
Redfall. Arcane disappointed me with Deathloop but they still have good will from Prey. If they can break the core "Xshock" gameplay they've reused for nearly all their games, I'll be interested.
Book of Hours. I really enjoyed the mythology set up in Cultist Simulator and I'm interested in any game that further explores it.
Suicide Squad. Rocksteady is a solid studio and I liked the Arkham Games, even Knight. So I'm willing to give them a shot in this.
Atomic Heart. New studio attempting the Xshock formula, so I'll be watching to see how it turns out. But I've heard this was a troubled production, so I dunno how it'll be as a final product.
Like a Dragon: Ishin. I'm a sucker for the Yakuza franchise.
System Shock. After so long, I'm just interested in how it'll be when it finally comes out.
Baldur's Gate 3. Someone gifted it to me back when it started Early Access, but I haven't tried it because I don't want to be spoiled. I've just toyed around with the character creation. Larian Studios is a studio I still have a lot of trust in.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. I have not seen either Avatar film. But from the start it seems like Cameron want to build a world and only crafted a story as an excuse. He should've just made a game like this instead to begin with.
Announced but TBD (so may not be in 2023)
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. Looks like This War of Mine but with zombies and a 1980's aesthetic.
Warhammer 40k: Roguetrader. Made by Owlcat and I liked their two Pathfinder games. A Warhammer CRPG? Sounds fun!
Hellboy: Web of the Wyrd. I love Hellboy. I just hope the game itself is good.
Frostpunk 2. I liked the original, will see what they do with the sequel.
Silksong. I only recently played Hollow Knight, but I enjoyed the experience enough to look forward to this.
Avowed. I really, really liked Deadfire and this game is set in the PoE world. The 'eh' feeling I got from Outer Worlds puts a damper on things, but I hope that maybe by returning to the PoE universe, there might be a return to form. Also, immersive RPG with character customization, so...
Hades 2. I LOVED Hades. More of it is going to appeal to me.
Judas. The creator of Bioshock comes back to make a brand new Xshock game? I wanna see if he innovates the formula he helped popularize or not.
Nightengale. I'm not huge into the 'survivor crafting' game but the aesthetics interest me.
Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty. Okay, not a game, but DLC. Cyberpunk hurt me, but I'm really, really hoping that this DLC is being made by CDPR with the idea that they need to step up their game.

🎮- EA enjoys taking care of their leeches, studying and observing their creatures, cyberbullying people. But you already knew this so it's time for the guy I never talk about to finally get talked about. NREs favorite hobbies are watching movies and tv shows made by the ancients, talking to the scavengers and ignoring descent whenever he messages
📚- all iterator have a PhD on everything. I don't think they have any form of formal education for Iterators, considering you can just put that information directly into their memories
🎻- I don't think any of them play an instrument
ADHESIVE BANDAGE (I couldn't find the emoji)- EA has mild chronic pain from detaching his puppet from the arm so violently. And definitely some neurodiveregencies but I'm no expert in that so I'm not gonna give them a specific one
💯- hmmm.. 1.)EAs eyes are naturally white and are only yellow because the activated deathloop is on them 2.) The reason they can modify themselves is because the later added taboo of not making new blueprints caused a conflict in the code and disabled it (I don't know how coding works at all but if mods can do this then so can the limiters) 3.) They also absorb oxygen with the fabricator arms in addition to eating and making things
💤-EA is a pretty light sleeper most of the time, unless they have someone they trust there. They mostly only sleep to wait out cycles, which is a bit of a problem because they don't actually go below the clouds that often and often cant sleep anyway so they stare into space listening to music instead
🔱- Xbox like water(yes)
🔶- EA doesn't know cpr but could still stop you from choking (by sticking their mycelia down your throat). They can fix wounds that would just require some extra tissue or metal easily enough but if it's a damaged organ or something complex to fix they would either need "blueprints" (need better word..) of you or to eat you first (and make the mycelia make blueprints of you that way) (obviously the second option is not desirable)
🚫- EA doesn't drink or smoke but they did inject themselves with karma flower juice once and would do it again if left with nothing else to do for a long time
🌲- they dont really do holidays, as they were all invented by the ancients
🐶- EA has the leeches. Some iterators would consider NREs scav friends pets but they very much arent
🐉- EAs favorite mythical creature is the fog demon. NRE likes unicorns
🌴- EA forgets plants are alive, so no. They would end up killing them even if they tried
❤️- let's see.. EA is very determined when she has a goal, would do almost anything for those they care about and
🤍- has a lot of curiosity especially about creatures, rather willing to take risks(to their puppet) (this can be good or bad I think so neutral), a bit hesitant sometimes I guess
💔- way too eager to resort to murder, likes to cyberbully, even if they don't want to kill you they will still stand back and let you die, even if they could have stopped it (if they don't care about you)
💘- their ecosystem and dew
💚- outside, they spend most of their time outside in their city taking care of the leeches
🖤- EA killed glories (as most of you know) they haven't broken anyone's heart or trust.. yet. NREs fight with descent over what to do to help skywriter is part of what caused descent to work constantly
😊 - honestly neither EA or me really know this one. They want to spend time with dew, get multicolored leeches, continue to observe evolution..
🤔- EA taps on their carapace a lot, uses ellipsis often.. rather rude a lot of the time.. what exactly is this one asking? (Needs clarification)

Deathloop is what happens when Dishonored meets Myst.
A while back, I bought Deathloop only to find that it wouldn’t play on my machine. More recently, I bought a new machine. Being able to play Deathloop wasn’t the reason I bought it, but having something that could play modern games (including for the next 2-3 years) certainly affected my selection criteria. This past weekend, I finally got tired of the other games I had been playing and put that long-ago purchase to use.
Mostly, the game play feels like Dishonored, which is my favorite franchise BTW. It’s pretty classic stealth-game stuff.
Hide in shadows and plan routes carefully.
Sneak up behind enemies and stab them.
Snipe enemies from long range.
Collect trinkets that give you extra powers.
Enjoy some of the same furniture as in the predecessors (plus one “easter egg” reference that I won’t spoil except to say it appears very early on).
There are some differences, of course.
Long-range sniping isn’t silent with a rifle like it is with a crossbow. It usually (but not always) attracts attention.
On the other hand, bodies always disappear conveniently, which required a special ability (or two) before. Yay, no more stuffing bodies in dumpsters and closets to avoid detection.
No sleep darts or other ways to render enemies unconscious. Just killing.
No rats, no weepers, no bloodflies, etc.
No money to find and pick up.
No drop assassination. This mechanic was always slightly ridiculous to the point of self-parody, but oh so fun. It’s the difference I regret the most.
Some of these changes are clearly simplifications to make up for the extra complexity on the Myst side.
You’re on an island, with multiple distinct areas.
You have to solve puzzles, some of which are quite visual and complex. It was discovery of one such that led me to recognizing the Myst connection.
Some of those puzzles require going back and forth between different areas to get information or pieces.
Time travel is involved, so sometimes you have to do things at a specific time.
Like every other game since, having little bits of lore scribbled on papers etc. is part of the fun.
It’s a bit of a surprising connection, especially since Myst quite explicitly eschewed violence while Dishonored fits firmly into the “murder hobo” category, but it really works. This might well become my favorite Arkane title. Unfortunately, it’s likely to be the last that’s recognizable as such, since they just got acquired by Microsoft. That’s not just generic MS-bashing, which I’m more than willing to do on other occasions, but their strategy regarding games in particular doesn’t seem very consistent with Arkane’s boutique feel and there have already been some significant departures. Let’s see if Redfall can prove me wrong.

Deathloop slab only Day 4
so I'm not going to go over what I did over the last few sessions of this challenge because other than like 1 thing I had to do differently to actually finish the game (I'll talk about this at the end of this post) I basically just played the game normally. Flicker and Havoc took away all of the challenge, because when I was thinking of doing this I thought that Havoc and Flicker would be helpful but not that helpful. you could probably beat the entire gam with nothing but havoc and have very little issues with anything. but back to my point, I'm just going to talk about some various things I either didn't mention before or things I found interesting about the game, discovered during the playthrough, and other generally interesting stuff about the game that are vaguely related to the challenge.
Random thing #1
Loop stress must buff all drops instead of just dropping rare loot more often. so I got the Sepulchra very early on this time and I found that for whatever reason it hardly did any damage to anyone I shot it with, when in my first casual playthrough it was a guaranteed one-shot headshot on basically everything but the collector. then when I did my final loop I tried to snipe Wenjie from not very far away and she tanked 6 headshots, so either the Sepulchra got nerfed between June and now or loot quality does more than just drop rare stuff more often. I hardly used the Sepulchra because it just couldn't kill anything this time around and I'm wondering if I should have gotten another one to compare before I reset my progress to playthrough another challenge run (which is honestly not really a challenge run and I won't be doing posts about this current one but I plan on it for the next)
Random thing #2
Apparently the Rapier is considered the meta by the community, it's the weapon I've used the least just because it's loud, slow to fire, and I thought it was just too niche to ever justify giving it a loadout slot. But the community disagrees. The actual worst weapon is much harder to figure out, I looked at a bunch of tier lists and a few reddit threads, the only weapon that wasn't ever called the worst in the game was the Strelak Verso which doesn't mean it's the best it's just generic enough that no one actively dislikes it. I saw the Constancy Automatic at the bottom surprisingly often, it's really not a bad weapon it's just very underwhelming for the first unique weapon most people will find; it's really just a Limp-10 with a finicky reload. but the one people called the worst most often was the PT-6 Spiker so the next challenge run will be with just that, even though I like the Spiker more than silenced Tribunal or Limp-10
Random thingy #3
Julianna randomly invading even though I had invasions turned off was a persistent problem throughout the run. I have no clue why but just based on behavior they were all the bots that invade in single player mode. she never dropped anything all that useful so I never really mentioned it except for the first time she invaded after I switched to friends only. I think there are ways you can force the game to have Julianna invade, this theory is mostly from me playing as Julianna and finding that some really good players seemed to be grinding Julianna in Updaam at night. like I would unintentionally invade what appeared to be the same player multiple times and every time he had the safe in Colt's apartment open so maybe reading the note from Julianna always forces one and other locations also have triggers like this, again I haven't tested this at all and the wiki doesn't mention it anywhere

it took me a bit to figure out how I could actually kill Julianna because the dueling pistols are obviously not a slab and all slabs are nullified in the core. eventually I figured out I could open the door, activate Aether, then shoot her from outside the door.

which of the last category besides inscryption and bioshock would you say you'd recommend for me based off my game library lol. doesn't have to include just what you listed but anything that fits that descriptor that u know of. i want story-rich interesting games. but lovecraftian, horror, and cyberpunk would be my main preference.
Hmm, that's a good question because they're all pretty good and I always recommend experimenting with genres. Subsurface Circular and Pyre are more heavy on the reading with Pyre having more gameplay sections and being not all that horror/cyberpunk like, but like Hades (same devs, can also recommend Hades tbh) it has a really good style and story. Remember Me is a more action oriented game and can be a bit tricky since it's such a gimmicky and experimental game, but it's as cyberpunk as they get. Other story rich experiences that I've liked are mostly on the actiony side from double/triple A companies (I have too many 2D games I've yet to try, but I can probably list some I've heard some good about if you want). From that side I'd recommend the likes of Dishonored (19th century assassin), Deathloop (60s science fiction) or Prey (space horror), or even Watch Dogs 2 for a more down to earth experience on the cyberpunk genre. If those aren't your style, maybe try Boyfriend Dungeon, ABZÛ or Aragami. I'll have to dig through my library for some more 2D stuff, so if you want some more recs from that side, do let me know!

:((( i got deathloop and almost immediately had to refund it because it kept crashing :(( i got to play a little of it and I like what I saw of Colt but yeah :(( i want to upgrade my pc at some point so after i do that, I'll probably end up buying it again. I got the first Dishonored though so I'm excited for that!!
i haven't done much of recording (besides like. a few semi-attempts to try doing lets play that never got uploaded) but I think radeon might have a 30 second clip feature? i have it on my pc, I'll double check tomorrow.
I haven't played Celeste but its on my wishlist (along with so many others 🥲) and I've heard good things about it!

NOOOOO wtf thats so sad wtf :( my pc had a really hard time running it too, i couldn't play it properly until i got a cooler (instead of a regular fan) for my birthday.
you're gonna LOVE dishonored though it is SO much fun...it's a long series (dh1 comes with multiple endings and lots of dlc, and dh2 can be played with two different characters going good or bad and with or without powers giving you a total of eight possible routes, and then doto has 2 endings as well) so hopefully by the time you're finished chewing on it you'll be able to upgrade your pc. i LITERALLY feel your pain i like couldn't run deathloop for awhile after they launched a major update in the MIDDLE of my playthrough and i was steamed as hell. i wish i could mail u the pc parts u need to get it running :(
also imo the best way to record pc gameplay is via streaming - twitch will record it and keep a copy for you that you can then download/save. but that involves doing things Publicly, so if you're just playing in private or with a friend...it can't work. i'd love to know about radeon though!! 30 seconds is what we get on switch so that's better than nothing. maybe i'll put my r*ddit account to good use finally and ask on there
ok this bit came in while i was replying and LMAO i was gonna warn you about celeste being maybe one of the top ten games ever made genuinely but also so difficult i put it down for months at a time but if you're oneshotting bloodborne bosses you'll probably beat it faster than me lol. def pick it up next time it's on sale i had such a genuine touching experience with it <3

Urgh. Happy endings are for happy people. The best I can give you in bittersweet?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope. But then again, I don't get much comments either because of how small my fandoms are.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep! Recently I have been messing around with it as well, for kinktober, and now I'm a bit ashamed to look my beta in the eyes.
I will admit, I usually post my kinky smut on an alt for that excat reason. Too many people I know irl know my main AO3 handle ^^;
But yeah, I love writing smut! But sometimes I want to play around with themes or settings too, and it doesn't always belong in those stories.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Yep! My fave is this fic, which I consider to be one of my best works:

I am also working on a few side projects that are crossovers. Since they're both longfics, I'm waiting to have over half of them done before releasing them (I've learned my lesson about those XD).
One is a Bablyon 5 and Star Wars crossover, where droids invade the world of B5, and a clone battalion is sent through to stop them.
The other is about the bad batch waking up on Blackreef.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not stolen, but I have had elements of a story plagiarized. I never called the other author on it, because it was one of their first fics, and because of the fandom and tags we had in common I don't think it was malicious.
12. There was no question 12 so I'll make one up myself: How many WIPs do you have?
18, not counting all the unfished kinktober one-shots. Some of those are original stories that won't go on AO3 though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, but I would love to!
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
How bad would it wound if i name something from a fandom I never wrote for? Winterfrost is my favourite ship. I would die for some Bucky x Loki.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I just keep forgetting it exists tbh ^^; I've changed and grew a lot as a writer since I started it, and as I've said it would need a full rewrite. Maybe one day I will get to it (It is my second most popular fic as well), because the two fandoms it's from deserve that, but I have like 3 longfics to get through before that.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characters. Funnily enough it's also one of my greatest weaknesses because if I can't write a character, I never will, but for those that I do write well, well, they're great.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dyslexia and writing on mobile. Sometimes my autocorrect does things, and I don't notice them, and then my beta goes "???" on stuff that any 4 year old would have caught XD
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I did it once, I'll do it again! But readers did drop it after those chapters (and that fic is no longer on AO3). I think it adds a lot of realism to a scene.
On that note, one of my favourite Outer Worlds fics had Welsh text in it. The author went to great lengths to make it readable to peeps who didn't speak it, with hyperlinks and stuff. But I was reading on mobile, so it never worked for me XD I had google translate open in the background, and was missing half the dialogue, but i was sooo into it that I didn't care.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Soul Eater. But that fic will never see the light of day. I'm even more embarrassed by it than I am from showing my experimental kinky smut to my irl friends. (Yes it involved a shinigami self-insert smooching Death the Kid). I was 14...
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Tough pick. I'd say overall this one :
