13. how did you change as a writer? did you learn anything new? started to plan instead of pants? share your wisdom!

i think i’ve found a better system for actually getting myself to write prose. cuz the problem for me is i’ll have ideas for DECADES (looking at tcol :/) and plan and plan and plan but never actually start to tell the story and this year i think i finally cracked the code of what works best for me to actually start writing something. which, for me is the EGREGIOUSLY DETAILED outline method. some people say you shouldn’t make outlines that detailed and i’m like yeah jk i need to know every single thing that’s going to happen in every single chapter because (1) reading it as it is makes me excited to actually write the work i’m actually thrilled to get to certain parts bc i can see how they’re mapped out and how we get from point a to point b. (2) i get stuck WAAAAY less. like i still get stuck but it’s mostly because of burnout now and not just bc i deadass don’t know where the story is supposed to go from a certain point. i think making that breakthrough was huge for me—even though i haven’t finished anything fully YET, i’ve made soooo much headway in two major wips which i think is super cool!

i also really allowed myself to get into poetry this year. i don’t talk about or post my poems all too much but as we speak i technically have a poetry book that i want to figure out how to publish sometime in the next year. it’s got like 60 poems or more in it i forget how many lol. i used to hate poetry when i was younger bc it felt pretentious but i think it was also cuz i wanted to appeal to all the annoying people i was friends with at the time who thought reading and writing was dumb.

and speaking of that— i learned that i’m really inspired by old flowery prose and i should do it more because it makes me happy. finally read on my own for the first time in YEARS cuz i wanted more inspo. so i think a lot of this year the changes have been me becoming a more confident writer instead of trying to adhere to the aesthetic and ideas of other writers or other people around me :3

I am so so sorry I dropped off the face of the earth for a whiiiile, idk how long it’s been. between working 2 jobs 6 days a week at the end of 2019 and then panini, I just haven’t been on tumblr... deadass, since maybe early 2020? I didn’t have a good ‘puter at the time and my old ass iphone was maxed out on storage so I had to delete my tumblr app.

it’s def been over a year since I’ve logged in here. I apologize to all of you babes profusely for not getting to your requests, but I have them saved. tbh I didn’t have the inspiration to write for almost a year... but my loins, they burn and my fingers, they fing... I now have a new laptop soooo I think enough is enough and it is time. if y’all are still horny4yakuza, then I got y’all. Also Loki is coming out kinda soon soooooo....

I got my Majima tattoo finished a couple months ago, caught covid (at work)  a week later, was very sick, grateful to not require hospitalization but every day of those 2 weeks I fell asleep wondering if I’d wake up worse. It was terrifying and I only wish it on the worst ppl in the world.

I will try to cross-post between tumblr and ao3, but I am delving heavily into editing rn.

so where I’m at is: I have mayyybe 2 or 3 finished fics and DOZENS of WIPs... as y’all prob know, I have a slow burn fetish but once I start going, if I can’t finish, I get stuck soooo... I may need y’all to help ya girl out.

Your response to school deadlines approaching is SO relatable; I'm a HORRIBLE procrastinator that says and believes dumb things like "I /need/ the pressure of a quickly approaching deadline (ie. the next day) to create a diamond of an essay" when it's really just me not wanting to do anything. The sticky notes is ALSO me (though just academic writing, since I'm not a fanfic writer at all), I'll be showering or wake up suddenly to write down A THOUGHT that I feel /must/ be written in

I deadass once had a paper due for my 1:25 inorganic chemistry class my senior year where we had to read a recent research paper and summarize it and connect it to what we learned in class and I started reading the paper at 12:15 and wrote the whole thing in about twenty minutes and somehow got an A it’s when I pull bullshit like that where I’m like “uh duh I can do this” 

I literally write everything down on post-its, my students would just walk up to my desk and count how many post-its where stuck to the surface and their gift for me at the end of the year was three packages of them asdijfaoisj

hop in my DMs or my ask box and look at the stuff in Italics on my WIP list so I can really work on these after finals

donut wip was supposed to be a stand-alone but it fits so perfectly with everything else. i actually have the most written for it. about 41k. however i have no written it in over a year bc i got burnt out and stuck then took on a new-old job that’s been kicking my ass this year lol 🤪

donut wip is called that also bc of what ogs will remember is i wrote all the characters meeting over an impromptu donut eating session and it just stuck

i do have a comic sans intro for donut wip that im too lazy to upload rn

i’ve had jenna and noi as characters respectively since hs but it’s only been recently that they ended up in the same universe (by recently i mean like end of 2020)

noi alone technically starts at the end and is told through a prolonged flashback. this is to introduce how and why noi ends up in braebrooke and to have a fun lil surprise about who they’re sharing this story with

donut wip and noi alone will break ur heart i hope 💛 jenna the reaper also will in a way but not as bad as those two

jenna the witch king is deadass the most lighthearted book of the whole series. y’all deserve a break after all the bullshit truly 😭💛

it’s been at least a year since i’ve been excited to talk about this series again so i’m happy to have the brain come back for it. hopefully this will eventually translate into me finishing donut wip but we’ll see….
