Concepts* for living (half)vampires that deserve to be in urban fantasy:
● They are destined to become full, undead vampires after their death.
● They are living vampires because one of their parents was vampiric, they were cursed, or they were born under specific fated/magical circumstances.
● Alternatively, could be turned into a living vampire by an undead vampire, using some kind of blood ritual, in which case it could make a good substitute for the more common ghoul/thrall character.
● They do not have to drink blood, but are capable of drawing power from it when they do.
● Alternatively, they might feed on people's energy rather than drink their blood.
● They may have fangs, sharp teeth, or neither, in which case they might use their nails to wound victims for feeding.
● They are capable of sensing the presence of undead vampires, and, if they are the kind that is not easily controlled by them, could make very effective vampire hunters.
● They are not yet harmed by sunlight or weakened during the day.
● They cannot stomach all human food, and are most likely to only eat meat, and/or drink milk, while some might only eat plain food like rice, or are only able to consume liquids but can drink sap or juice.
● Most likely are not affected by the things that ward off a vampire (garlic, hawthorn, wild roses), but might already be affected by things like holy water if you want to play up the cursed angle.
● Could be in possession of all kinds of magic powers, (but I personally prefer to keep them to a minimum, lest they get too powerful).
● Have great potential to be either enjoying their current powers and looking forward to their later vampirism, or to live in constant fear of what they might become. Might feel closer to humans and wish to protect them, to want to mediate between the undead and the living, or could be fully on the side of (malicious) vampires.
● Could be named moroii, dhampir, or, if you must, daywalkers.

Giving my daywalkers those eyes that reflect and shine and glimmer in the dark was the best idea I've ever had. There is nothing hotter than seeing those glinting, shining predator eyes coming out of the dark at you. Tapetum lucidum, what's sexier than that
POV you come across Valen in the night

I'm dying, I'm going to actually pass away. Valen, Vesper, Vega, they all have it

Commission for dismaltoast34 on deviantart.
They're characters from a D&D campaign.
The DL; DR version is that Delphi's a Divine soul Warlock Hexblade. Her patron, Anton, is a very powerful vampire lord. He has a curse on him placed by another powerful vampire lord that they're trying to break. She usually wears armor but they're currently in the courtyard. They're also lovers.
I have a longer description of the main plot on deviantart but with tumblr's layout it's taking a lot more space than the picture itself.

━━━━━♡⊰⊹ // ᴅᴀʏᴡᴀʟᴋᴇʀ ʟᴏʀᴇ 4/∞
In the process of putting my lore down into an actual template/structure, I came up with some specifics and it makes me lose all my marbles. In other words, very normal things happening here
So I have both wolves and daywalkers/vampires and they've existed for thousands of years, evolving alongside humans from a common ancestor. And Night City is sort of a neutral safe haven where preternaturals can exist somewhat freely. They blend in for the most part
But there's certain things that set them apart from regular humans
Daywalkers (I'll just use this term since their vampire blood outweighs their human blood and they end up being closer related to their sire than mother so they end up being more vampire than human) look perfectly human until an actual human realizes they're not. They quickly realize the person in front of them has sharper teeth than they should. They meet someone on a dark street at dusk and when this person smiles, they have two sets of canines where they shouldn't
Or, a person sees someone standing in the shadow of a small side road and realizes their eyes are reflecting the dim light. They're seized with fear because humans' eyes don't shine in the dark. Staring at this human shaped entity who's keenly watching them with glinting predator eyes and knowing that it's useless to run
Other assorted non-human markers are; the way they can move too fast sometimes, or can be too strong sometimes. You think you see someone down the street, then there's a faint blur, and suddenly they're right there in front of you. Or maybe you witness someone rip a car door almost completely off it's hinges like it's nothing
While my daywalkers tend to be on the less bloodthirsty side, due to self-preservation and some historical events that helped them evolve to go longer between feeds, they're still "unnatural" to humans and can cause that fight or flight response. Since daywalkers evolved beside humans, and historically were a threat (they still are for the most part) most humans tend to be wary of them or outright fear them if they know they're faced with one
The same goes for my wolves when shifted; their howls sometimes sound faintly human and their eyes look a little too intelligent. Wolves don't usually know what you're saying when you talk at them, but these ones seem to understand what you're saying
Or maybe you pissed someone off and you could've swore that you heard them make some kind of animal growl at you. Now you're wondering whether they're a daywalker or were and if you'd be able to get away from them
I just love the slight horror aspect to them so much. Daywalkers and weres, but especially those with vampire blood, are top of the food chain in my lore. Vampires/vampire blood pulls very far away from Dracula type lore - they're much closer related to other animals/predators and aren't magical. They don't use glamours or tricks to get their prey. They hunt. And so they're gonna be sorta scary and horrifying and threatening. So very normal about this, I'm just a regular boy making regular lore < gnawing on the drywall at the thought of vampires

When it comes to the MCU we have to thank Stan Lee and BLADE for kicking it into go.....The Blade Trilogy is one of the cornerstones of the great superhero era we've enjoyed over the last 20 years. LONG MAY IT CONTINUE.
