When we talk about memories, we also talk about how we can store them. Photos and personal objects are a great example of this and we even see Louis doing it over the course of the season, but what about Daniel?
I was noticing how the picture frames are hidden or seem "empty" when we look at the picture of the street on the television, for example:
Daniel's house is full of books, a lot of information and knowledge occupies this old man's mind and yet there seems to be no room left for the memories that really matter, because they are empty or hidden.
Memories like puzzles that you can't finish…
Memories like locked files that you need to unlock…
Memories hidden in boxes that someone forces you to open…
Memories stored in other boxes, put there by yourself, that you need to look for…
Memories marked on your skin that still hurt…
Memories with a taste of what is missing...
Memories that are fever dreams...
And memories that you still dream about…
“Your memory is a monster; you forget—it doesn't. It simply files things away. It keeps things for you, or hides things from you—and summons them to your recall with will of its own. You think you have a memory; but it has you!” ― John Irving, A Prayer for Owen Meany

And it is now finished! The fourth, and final, part of my fanfic, Now or Neverland, is now posted on AO3!
Part of The Forgotten Years series I’m writing with @faerywhimsy
After the posting of this final part, we are both going to take a little hiatus before we begin posting new, upcoming fanfics that we already have planned for the series. You can see a list of the planned fanfics here:

We should begin posting to the series again sometime in September.
Enjoy!

Title: Now or Neverland
Pairings: Armand/Daniel, Daniel/Louis, Armand/Daniel/Louis, Armand/Louis (background)
Devil’s Minion Era — Show Canon with Book Canon Elements
Part IV: Neverland — 16,232 words — Mature
Warning: Some very strong homophobic language is contained in this part, along with some very strong M-rated sexual content as well.
San Francisco, California, late February 1979
Four months.
It has been over four months since all three of them had been in the same room together. For Daniel, the time between had felt like an eternity when it was happening.
And now. Armand was here. Finally here, before him again. With him and Louis again.
And it almost felt like no time had passed at all.
Almost.
Because the tension in the room spoke well as to how things had changed just within that over the four-month span of time that they had all been apart.
“When — when did you get here?” Daniel asked Armand, searching for something to say to break the tension in the room. Then, he immediately felt the stupidity of the question. Because given that it was only an hour, at most, after sunset, the most Armand could have done was come into The City the day before — and stayed somewhere else — before arriving at the house that evening.
Traveling to so many different locations all over the world with two immortals who couldn’t move during daylight hours had given Daniel extensive knowledge as to how vampires needed to travel to avoid sunlight. All Daniel had done was ask something he already most likely knew the answer to. Not really much of a tension breaker in that regard.
However, if Armand thought the question was a dull or stupid one he didn’t say so. Maybe he understood it had only been a question asked as a way for Daniel to try and navigate through the tension that hung in the room between them all like a thick cloud.
“Less than an hour ago,” Armand answered evenly. “Louis didn’t know where you had gone off to. I was going to go and look for you, but —”
“But I said you would likely be back very soon. And here you are, as I said,” Louis finished, giving them both a glance, his voice low . . . but with an edge to it that Daniel had rarely heard before. And just seemed to add to the tension already in the room.
The only place where there didn’t appear to be any tension was between Daniel and Louis. But that had probably only come from the time they had finally been able to spend together before now. Because it had hurt Daniel that Louis had left without saying goodbye to him, without telling Daniel where he was going. And if he would ever come back.
Louis’ promise to never do so again, to never leave again without giving Daniel some idea as to where to find him, had done much to mend that hurt for Daniel.
Plus, Daniel had known before he’d gone searching for Louis that Louis had not left because of anything Daniel had done. Armand had made that very clear to him when Daniel had inquired as to why Louis had been gone for so long.
Something had happened between Louis and Armand that day back in October when Louis had left. And Daniel only suspected now that it must have had something to do with Lestat de Lioncourt, given what Louis had said to Armand when he’d finally emerged from his coffin that evening.
“You kept him away from me all this time, is that it?” Louis demanded of Armand, first thing as soon as he finally emerged from his coffin.
What other ‘he’ could Louis have been talking about, really? Had Armand somehow kept Lestat from Louis in some way? And Louis somehow did not know about it?
Daniel still didn’t have all the details of what had happened, even now. And that night in October he’d been asked to leave the apartment immediately, to give Louis and Armand privacy to talk.
Given the clear fury on Louis’ face and the deadly calm of Armand’s, Daniel had felt it wise not to argue and had slowly backed out of the room and left the apartment for a few hours.
By the time Daniel had finally returned about an hour before dawn, Louis had long since left. With no word to Daniel, or any indication where he’d gone to. All Armand had done was say that Louis leaving was not him leaving him, Daniel, with his going.
Whatever had occurred between Armand and Louis that had had Louis leaving them for the time he did, (and it must have had something to do with Lestat, given Louis’ time spent in New Orleans looking for him), Daniel could see there was still some sort of simmering tension between the two vampires about it all.
“I was just over in Berkeley, at the Barb office. That’s the newspaper I’ve been working at while I’ve been here,” Daniel explained, mostly to Armand as Louis already knew about Daniel’s job. “My old friend Frank offered me a ride back here.”
Armand only gave a short nod in acknowledgment of what Daniel had said. His amber eyes never left their focus on Daniel. And it took everything in Daniel’s power not to keep his focus completely on Armand when the older vampire looked at him in that way.
As if looking into Daniel’s very soul.

I don’t know how the show is going to do , but what’s with this end game nonsense in reguards to the vampire chonicles books?
Argument that Louie is lying about Armand being the love of his life.
Lestat takes on at least three more lovers in the last couple of books and basically does the vampire version of dating other people even after he gets Louie to move back in with him. There together but their not exclusive.
Louie also takes a lot of very vacations with Armand and Daniel and their children to the point he practiculally lives there.
Armand and Lestat are both the loves of Louis’s life.
He’s part of Armand family and Lestat’s equally.
Armand himself loves Daniel, Louie and even Lestat in a romantic sense. (its complicated)
So there’s no end game in the books everyone keeps loving each other after after. No one ever leaves the love rectangle in these books, everyone wins!
