Roger: It's the parents who are to blame... Dan: Yeah, you're right, we should put them in the stocks whilst we thrash their kids… Roger: You can take the mick! There was no need to put coppers in schools when I was there... Dan: Those were the days, eh? Paper round in your bare feet before sun up, breakfast? Just a bowl of gravel. June: Have you just had a shave? Smithy: What? How did you know that? June: I miss nothing, me. Smithy: Am I under surveillance or something? June: No, you've got shaving cream in your ear... Zain: Late night? Smithy: What? Zain: Shaving when you get to work, it's kind of a giveaway... Dan: Come on then, lets get the jokes over with... Tony: Awww, look at Rogers face. He looks like someone's just stolen his conkers.
Louise: I thought we'd finished with the questions? Smithy: Well, you know us Old Bill, we're always after more. Louise: Is that right? So supposing an opportunity arose? Smithy: *phone rings* Hang on... Louise: Don't worry, I can find my way back to Islington... I wonder if you can. *leaves* Dan: We're supposed to earn their respect! Roger: Respect? So far today they've had me in the bogs trying to find a non-existent goldfish. I've had to settle a dispute over a Spongebob Squarepants lunch box, and they've had me up a tree trying to retrieve a games kit. They start to show me some respect, then...*gets interrupted by a groups of lads* Dan: Up until now, they thought he was one of the few that would get to university. Sensitive, artistic...not the type to be carrying a knife… Roger: Maybe he was scared of being done over. I mean they're the ones they usually pick on, aren't they? The bright kids, the ones that are a bit different. The artistic ones... Dan: I used to be artistic... Roger: I rest my case.
Smithy: Louise, it's Smithy...Sergeant Smith. Louise: What are you doing? Smithy: I thought you wanted to see me? Louise: What made you think that? Smithy: When you were at the station, you were wondering if I could find my way to Islington... Louise: And that means come over, does it? Smithy: I just thought that... Louise: Look, you have to go...just don't call me again, alright? Smithy: So that's it? Louise: You're a bloke. I thought a one night stand was a perfect deal. Smithy: Well yeah, but... Jonathan: *bangs on the door whilst Smithy looks through the windows* Gina! Gina! Smithy: Maybe she had a hospital appointment and forgot to mention it... Jonathan: I doubt it, look just mind out the way... Smithy: Er, what are you doing? Jonathan: Going to knock the door in... Smithy: Yeah, don't cos she'll kill ya. *pulls a key out* There's no need. Jonathan: Well I'm not going to ask why you've got that...*follows Smithy in and looks through the house for her* Smithy: *runs upstairs and sees Gina out cold on the floor* Jonathan! She's up here! Gina...*goes to help her* Smithy: *checks Gina's pulse* Jonathan: Have you got a pulse? Smithy: Yeah... Jonathan: Shall I call an ambulance? Smithy: No, not yet...Let's get her up *rolls Gina over and pulls her up to him* Gina: *coughs and flails her arms out* Jonathan: Up you come... Gina: *holds Jonathan and Smithy's hands* What's happening... Smithy: You tell us Gina...you're alright now. *both men comfort her* *Smithy and Jonathan settle Gina on the settee* Smithy: How you feeling? Gina: Bit wobbly, but I'm alright now... Jonathan: Do you want us to take you to the hospital? Just in case...? Gina: No, no...they warned me this might happen after the radiotherapy... *sighs* I feel wiped out...I've been up half the night vomiting, I really don't want any fuss... Smithy: Well if you're sure you're alright... Gina: Honestly, get back to work...I need you to cover for me... Jonathan: *nods at Smithy* I'll stay here... Smithy: Well look, I'll see you later... Gabriel: *Holds up a newspaper* Is this all you've got to read? Smithy: Well I didn’t exactly get to pack a case when I came in here did I?
Gina: *to Smithy about Gabriel* Have you thanked him yet? Smithy: No. Gina: Smithy he saved your life. Smithy: I know but whenever I go to say it the words get stuck in my throat!
Dan: Yeah, I run a few times a week, did the marathon once... Roger: Dan *waves at him from behind the groupies* Hello? Dan: Sorry...can I have me hat back please girls? Roger: Go on, this is a study period...We're meant to be on patrol, not fraternizing with the enemy... Dan: Just gathering intelligence... Roger: Don't think they've got much to share, anyway, the marathon, who you kidding? Dan: I was at one once... Roger: Yeah, for crowd control. Dan: "I was terrified we'd have to split up. I didn't realise how much you meant to me."
Steve: Are you up for a bit of advice Roger? Roger: Well it's not the best time but go on quickly. Steve: What would you do if there was this woman who, well let's say something happened with her, but you don’t want to take it any further, yeah? Roger: Yeah OK I'm with you so far. Steve: But she keeps phoning you. Roger: What does she say? Steve: I haven't answered. Roger: But you want it to stop? Steve: Yeah I want it to all stop. Dan: *Slaps Steve on the back* be a man about it mate. Roger: Or better still, give her Dan's number *points at Dan* he'll sort her out. *Dan and Roger exit. Steve: Yeah.
Smithy: Well, if my dentist looked as good as you, I'd never miss a checkup...
Smithy: I'm here with a friend... Dan: A woman? Smithy: Well of course it's a woman! Dan: By the way, nice legs. Her that is, not you...
Smithy: You said you didn't want bail, so now you got your wish and I nearly got me nose broke! Smithy: Now I'm running out of patience with you, and my nose is really starting to hurt!
Louise: If you want to end it, fine...I can't make you love me... Smithy: But I do love you...that's what's making it harder to do.

Explanation: Gravitational lensing by the galaxy cluster MACS0647 -- in which the massive foreground cluster distorts and lenses the light emitted by distant background galaxies along the line of sight — is on vivid display here in this recent multi-color infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). In particular, the background source MACS0647-JD is seen to be lensed three times by the cluster. When first discovered with the Hubble Space Telescope, MACS0647-JD was observed as an amorphous blob. With Webb though, this single source is revealed to be a pair or small group of galaxies. The colors of the MACS0647-JD objects are different as well -- indicating differences potentially in the age or dust content of these galaxies. These new images provide rare examples of galaxies in an era only a few 100 million years after the Big Bang.

I'm seeing all of these headlines from critics about how ridiculous FAST X as if they are just learning what the Fast and Furious films are. They are ridiculous. And? So? Your point being? Are you going to write that Looney Toons cartoons are silly?
22 years, 10 films, countless implausible moments.

You're going to say the franchise is stupid because you have people driving through skyscrapers or parachuting with cars or even surfing on a car but you say nothing about how we're supposed to believe Paul Walker as an LAPD cop when no LAPD cop in the history of the force has ever looked like that?!
This is the real stretch of imagination.

FAST X. The X stands for X-TREME SPOILERS
THE GOOD -I like a bit of fan service and the franchise keeps doling out heaping helpings of it. We got Letty back, Han back, Owen Shaw, Deckard Shaw, Elena back (briefly), whoever the hell Lucas Black and Bow Wow played in TOKYO DRIFT, Hobbs back and now the gal - Gisele.
Their babies are no longer babies.

At this pace I can't even feel bad that John Cena's Jakob died because we didn't see his body. For all we know he could have jumped out the car when it exploded! We see Han's body and he still returned from the dead so...I'm just saying don't count your dead characters before they hatch.
-I loved that they tied this story into Fast Five because that film was my entry into the Fast and Furious films so I remember that one distinctly enough that I could appreciate how they re-did scenes to add the idea that Dante was in their orbit then.
-Following THE SUICIDE SQUAD's lead and relegating Scott Eastwood to bit player. This feels like they were just trying to help him retain his SAG-AFTRA health insurance.
-The twist with Alan Ritchson's character. They intro him giving a wall of exposition about how the "cult with cars" win everyone over and then we see him won over and I think, "Exactly. As it should be." But no! Mans was luring Dom into a false sense of security. Dom was probably too blinded by that tan Ritchson was sporting for some reason.

-Jason Momoa was having so much fun and he certainly made for an entertaining villain. I'm all in for a villain who wears nail polish and space buns. And I liked how they actually used his photos from his BAYWATCH: HAWAII and STARGATE ATLANTIS years instead of photoshopping it.

THE BAD -Momoa IMO didn't find a good balance between unhinged lunacy and camp. I wish he was able to blend the menacing aspects of the character into his character when he was being more flamboyant. I think an actor who pulled that balance off perfectly was Chris Pine in SMOKIN' ACES.
-I can turn my brain off, I want to be entertained. If I wanted to logic police these films I'd just tweet Neil DeGrasse Tyson and ask his opinion. That said, bad writing is bad writing and this film had some awful writing. The script was written by Justin Lin, Dan Mazeau (Wrath of Titans) and Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War). I like to think Justin Lin knew some parts of the script was absolute dog piss and quit because he didn't want to have to massage a performance out of his actors using those words.

-The CGI was so bad! Regressively so. It was like they were using 2001 technology in some of the big scenes.
THE REST A cliffhanger? Editors exist for a reason. You're telling me I am going to have to sit through another 2 hours watching Letty, Cipher and Gisele on their sub adventure through Antarctica, Deckard saving his mum, Dante acting like he's on RuPaul's Drag Race, Roman with the weak jokes (Tyrese isn't as funny as he thinks he is), then a race to hurriedly find a way to give Brie Larson something substantive to do and because everyone comes back, we will see the return of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) and then shoehorn back in Rita Moreno to close out the film with another speech about family?

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 358
The Larsons have returned from their holiday and Louise calls Smithy to let him know she's home. He rushes to see her at a deserted park. Meanwhile Pete is spotted meeting a potential replacement for Vince Garrison who was murdered just before they left on holiday. Unfortunately for the replacement, Pete doesn't take him up on the offer and uniform are requested to do a 'casual stop' to arrest him. During the interview he breaks down and admits that Pete was involved in the murder of Garrison in exchange for Sam and Zain having a word with the judge. Sam agrees and passes it on to MIT and NCS to be involved.
Smithy is tasked as part of the search group to find the gun that shot Vince Garrison at the Larson's house. He's unsure if he should be involved and Zain tells him if he wants to miss out on the chance of finally nailing Pete Larson it's up to him.

"I'm sure Sgt Smith can look after you whilst I'm gone..." he says to Louise. Hmm. Does he have his suspicions already? Or could it just be from when Louise and Smithy pretended that Louise had heard noises inside the house and called the police when really he'd come home early whilst they were in bed together?
Louise tells Smithy she can't let herself think that this could be their chance. Not until something is found. She wishes he hadn't involved himself on the search as Pete already has seen him.
Whilst they're searching, Suzie rings Smithy to tell him that Louise is Pete's alibi for the time that Vince was shot. Louise insists she's backing him up - even though she was actually with Smithy at the time. Smithy tells her it's everything they've been hoping for but Louise insists if she speaks out against him she's just as dead as Garrison. She does tell him however that Pete did have a gun the day Garrison died but she doesn't know where he's put it and he didn't take it with them when they went away - it must be in the house.
At the station, Louise calmly backs up Pete's story as she has many times before. Zain watches angrily as she's shown out, only to find out that the witness has folded after a long chat with his brief... who just so happened to have had a long chat with Larson's brief just before that.
Zain rings Smithy to tell him that they have no case now given the alibi and the withdrawl of the statement so to call off the search. Smithy refuses, he wants to find that gun. He tells Zain about it. Zain arrives to help him look and to get the search team gone before Sun Hill officers arrive. They find nothing and Zain gets a call that they're releasing Pete. He's going to drive to the a road they'd have to pass to return to the house and says he'll let Smithy know so he has enough time to leave.

Unfortunately Smithy delays and the Larson's arrive before he can get out. He can't get out the backdoors either - he's trapped!
As an aside, Dan is accepted onto the Territorial Support Group course. Smithy told him in the morning that it had a waiting list and a long one at that. Rochelle tells him congratulations that afternoon because he's been accepted onto the course and knows before he does. When he asks her how she knows, she tells him that Ian (the Borough Commander and her husband/Dan's former Superintendent) told her... and yet he still doesn't put it together and realise the obvious. Poor lad.
2nd aside - amused this episode, 2 months before Christmas at that time, has a very pointed reminder about what can happen if you illegally download stuff from the internet. It's all very 2005 in its discussion too.
3rd - I hate so much that Gina is not here for this, ditto the Gabriel stuff. It's not right, she'd be right in there because her precious boy was in the thick of things. I wish they'd worked their schedules out better so she could be back.
