Listen, as someone who's favorite movie of all time is the Wizard of Oz, seeing the OG OZ gang with Dorothy's book canon silver shoes makes me fucking cry with joy.
Never in my life would I ever thought that I would see Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion and Toto again on the big screen.
I am officially the happiest person in the world

Using Fairy Tales to explain RWBY Plots: Leo’s Weapon
Leonardo Lionheart is known for his allusion as the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. His weapon is a wrist-holstered plate that can extend into a dust-loaded disc. It has a cross design, which leads me to believe that it is based on the Cowardly Lion’s Medal of Courage given to him by the Wizard of Oz.
This is especially evident in the concept art, which better shows the details of his weapon. The designs appear fairly similar to medallions or badges.
His weapon’s name is Stalwart, meaning loyal, trustworthy, dedicated. Obviously Leo is very much not that, which is why the lion’s medal of courage is stripped from him in his final moments.
“Coward”, Salem.

The absolute funniest thing in the Wizard of Oz books, is the revelation that in Oz Toto can, in fact, talk. He just chooses not to most of the time.
