With John often spending his days at the clinic, Abigail took to strolling the town square. It was there that she met Kathryn Strauss and Celia-Mae Hayward, two young socialites, who, like her, had moved in only months prior to their meeting.
Needless to say, both women left a delightful impression on Abigail and soon secured themselves and their husbands dinner invitations.

Summer passed slowly in Brindleton Bay, days lulling by in a lazy blur of summer sunsets and daily promenades. Thankfully, the weather had never been terribly hot this close to the bay - which was why Abigail found it terribly strange that she had been such. For a couple of weeks now, she had wakened to sore muscles and her stomach in irrepressible knots. And, though she had her suspicions, she thought it best to write to her sister-in-law about her symptoms.
Her prompt response?
You, my dear sister, are surely with child.
The thought sat heavy in Abigail's mind for a number of days, before she finally realized she was late, and Francesca must have been right. So, on an evening not long after her correspondence, Abigail called John into the sitting room and broke the news. Thankfully, he was overjoyed.

Days at the Manor + an excerpt from a letter to Abigail's sister-in-law:
My dear Francesca,
Oh, what bliss married life provides!
John has been a most loving husband, and I cannot find it in myself to be more grateful for him. How is it that, in all your years of marriage, you did not mention what liberation one could feel upon being wed? Surely, you, of anyone, would have thought it important for me to know?
Of course, I only jest. I thank you for your council - and for your neverending love. I miss you, Fran. Won't you visit soon? I'm sure John misses the company of his brother just as much.
All my love,
Abigail
