Last weekend I went to Rome with my parents and sister for my Mum's birthday - our first family holiday in 12 years! Talk about state the obvious, but I was completely overwhelmed by how grand, gigantic and ancient the city's buildings are. The Colosseum is quite clearly bloody old! But standing inside the amphitheatre whilst being told about its build between 72-80AD, I was completely blown away. Some of the brickwork, mainly on the highest parts of the outer wall, still looks new - and no they're not new bricks used for reconstruction purposes. They're genuinely early 2,000 years old. We did the City Wonders tour of the Colosseum and Forum, and our tour guide Jaber had been leading tours for 43 years.
